- After spending lots of money taking Shelly out to expensive dinners and a concert, J.T. begins to feel frustrated that she never pays for their dates. Shelly brags to Rita and Janie that J.T. treats her like a queen. But when Janie asks if Shelly ever treats J.T. like a king, Shelly informs her that she is an old-fashioned girl who believes the man should bear the financial obligation. On their next dinner date, Shelly insincerely offers to pay the tab and is shocked when J.T. agrees. But Shelly finds herself in a tough situation because she doesn't have enough money. Excusing herself from the table, she quickly telephones her girlfriends to bring her money. J.T. sees Shelly accepting cash from Rita and Janie. He confronts Shelly, and she tells him the truth.
- After a 10-month romantic drought, Shelly finds it increasingly difficult to resist new guy J.T., but her friend Janie cautions her to slow down and get to know him--especially after noticing a jumbo box of condoms in his shopping cart. While Janie, Rita and Shelly debate if J.T. is a playboy, Nick actually chides him for being such a gentleman thus far.
- Shelly and DivaStyle persuade a celebrity client, BROOKE BURKE (herself - "Wild On. . ."), to wear their creation to a televised red carpet awards show, but the advertising opportunity turns into a publicity nightmare when the fashion commentator, ROBERT VERDI (himself - "Surprise by Design"), makes negative remarks about the dress. Meanwhile, J.T.'s taskmaster mom, Frances (recurring guest star DAPHNE MAXWELL REID - "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"), visits. . . and Nick regrets his decision to take piano lessons from her.
- When Shelly, Janie and Rita end up with a huge windfall due to the success of their business, each of them deals with her newfound wealth differently. Shelly immediately splurges on expensive clothes and accessories, draining her account within days.
- Shelly and J.T. take salsa lessons, but J.T. quits, frustrated by his clumsiness, while Shelly continues lessons with handsome dance instructor Tony (dancer/actor CRIS JUDD). J.T. must decide what's more important--his ego or sharing something with Shelly that makes her happy. Meanwhile, Rita can no longer afford her chic lifestyle and moves into a studio apartment with help from her friends. Nick hopes he has caught Rita's attention in the process.
- After injuring her knee while exercising, Shelly puts her pride aside and grudgingly turns to J.T. for physical therapy. But when a cute doctor in J.T.'s office asks Shelly out, a jealous J.T. gives her some unnecessary medical advice to sabotage the date. Meanwhile, Donovan bets Nick that he couldn't last one night as manager of Z Lounge.
- After her car accidentally catches on fire, Shelly asks J.T. to lend her money for a down payment on a new one, but when he refuses, it causes her to question their relationship. Meanwhile, stuck with an extra ticket to a charity ball, Rita asks Donovan to escort her to the event, and the two friends share a surprising kiss at the end of the evening.

Meanwhile, after skipping his flight back to England and staying in the United States illegally, Donovan Brink (series star SEAN MAGUIRE), the manager of one of Miami's hottest clubs, shows up on the doorstep of J.T. and his best pal, Nick Delaney (series star BRIAN HOOKS) , looking for help as he decides what to do with his life next.
- After a fight with Rita's unpleasant and very young stepmother, Lucy (JODI LYN O'KEEFE - "She's All That"), at a designer shoe sale, Shelly must attempt to apologize in order to assist Rita in acquiring some much-needed financial help from home. Meanwhile, after finding out that J.T. slept with Nick's ex-girlfriend in college, Nick decides to make a pass at Shelly to get even.
- Janie calls a popular radio show to vent about her mother-in-law and ends up revealing more than she intended to. Meanwhile, Nick and Rita start dating. JAY MANUEL ("America's Next Top Model") guest stars as Jay and radio personalities J. ANTHONY BROWN, TOM JOYNER and MYRA J guest star as themselves.
- Nick becomes upset because Shelly is always at the apartment he shares with her boyfriend, J.T. Shelly eats the guys' food and generally interrupts their manly pursuits, but J.T. doesn't mind. After Nick and Shelly's feud reaches a climax at J.T.'s birthday party, J.T. begs his friends to reconcile. Meanwhile, suspecting that former model Rita is returning to her anorexic ways, Janie tries to tempt her with her secret weapon: Janie's homemade lasagna. And Donovan competes with a rival to create the perfect signature drink for his club.
- Shelly and Rita take a kung fu class together, but when Rita proves to be more adept than Shelly, a rivalry ensues. VIVICA A. FOX ("Missing," "Kill Bill Vol. 1") guest stars as herself and DAVID CARRADINE ("Kung Fu," "Kill Bill Vol. 1") guest stars as Master, the kung fu teacher.
- On New Year's Eve, Shelly breaks the girls' "no dates" pact by bringing a new romantic interest to the Z Lounge party. The rest of the gang share stories of past New Year's Eve date debacles, including J.T.'s evening with the delusional Diana (MISTY MAY), who thinks she's a superhero. While Donovan and Rita reminisce about Shannon (JILLIAN BARBERIE - "Good Day L.A.") and Jackson (PERRY KING - "The Day After Tomorrow"), Shelly's perfect evening takes its own surprising turn just before the final countdown to midnight. Recurring guest star PHIL LaMARR ("MADtv") appears as Eve's hairstylist, Coleman.
