Richard Fleischer’s Biblical epic is a class act all the way, and one of producer Dino De Laurentiis’s greatest accomplishments. Anthony Quinn’s guilty, perplexed bandit survives and subsists but never understands the importance of the man crucified in his place; the view of early Christianity is respectful and free of pious clichés. It’s an excellent image of the ancient world, with gladiator scenes that are possibly the best ever. Fleisher does exceedingly well with the enormous sets and a well-chosen international cast: Ernest Borgnine, Valentina Cortese, Vittorio Gassman, Katy Jurado, Arthur Kennedy, Silvana Mangano, Jack Palance.

Sometimes, the movies slated for the 2012 year are only as good as their hype. A few of these flicks only look good as a trailer, but when audiences hit the theatre, either all the best parts have been given away or expectations fall flat. Not every title bears merit, but if any blood money is to be spilt, here’s a list of curios that should really be investigated.
Beneath the Darkness (Release Date: Jan 6)
Dir.: Martin Guigui.
Cast: Dennis Quaid, Tony Oller and Aimee Teegarden.
When a group of teens witness their best friend murdered by a so-called hero, they have to figure out how to expose him and avoid being killed too. Dennis Quaid plays Ely Vaughn, the pillar of the community, but also the antagonist in this film. Interestingly enough, Vaughn is the town’s local mortician, and there’s a secret that no body knows about him.

Italian director Boris Acosta wants us to know that Dante's Inferno Documented is not a documentary. However, it is also not your standard feature film. It is a "four-quadrant" film presented as "a visual and narrative journey told by over 30 scholars and artists from Italy and the United States"... which I think means it's people talking over artwork.
It features actor Eric Roberts (Expendables, Best of the Best... that Killers video) as the famous Dante who journeys into hell, Jeff Conaway, Monsignor Marco Frisina from The Vatican and Italian Legend Arnoldo Foà, among many others.
According to Acosta, "the main purpose of this documentary is to present Dante's story in an easy and understandable way to encourage people to read The Divine Comedy. The production will give 10% of its revenue to charity to promote The Divine Comedy throughout the world.
