“Gladiator” changed Russell Crowe’s life. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Maximus in Ridley Scott’s Roman Empire epic and spent a few years as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. The film means a lot to him personally. So he’s having some mixed feelings about “Gladiator II,” Scott’s upcoming sequel starring Denzel Washington and Paul Mescal as Maximus’ son, Lucius.
Spoiler alert for a 24-year-old movie: Maximus dies at the end of “Gladiator.” So Crowe is not in “Gladiator II,” and he’s not involved with the production. In an interview with radio host Kyle Meredith, Crowe admitted to being “slightly uncomfortable” with the fact that they’re making another “Gladiator” film.
“Because of course, I’m dead, and I have no say in what gets done,” he explained, with a little bit of a wry smile. “A couple of things that I’ve heard,...

Despite the acclaim he received for his performances in The Last of Us, Pedro Pascal faced criticism upon landing the part for what can only be described as an utterly ridiculous reason. Based on Naughty Dog’s game of the same name, the live-action adaptation raised high expectations from fans. However, fans grew skeptical, when the studio announced the lead cast of the show.

Showrunner, Craig Mazin, later revealed that the initial reception to the lead cast was largely negative, with many criticizing Pascal’s ability to grow a beard to effectively portray Joel in the series adaptation.

Ridley Scott wanted to tell the story of “Gladiator 2” with as many cameras as possible, according to actor Joseph Quinn.
The “Stranger Things” star told GQ that Scott would film with eight cameras at once for even just a single scene. Scott would then piece together the desired shots.
“I was like, ‘Eight cameras?’ and he’s like ‘You gotta know where to fucking put ’em,'” Quinn said. “Clearly he does. Watching that puzzle, watching him harness all those pieces and put them together was fascinating, truly.”
“Gladiator 2” stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, the nephew of since-deceased Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) who was killed by Russell Crowe’s Maximus. Lucius is the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and grandson of Marcus Aurelius, and originally played by Spencer Treat Clark in the 2000 feature.

Joseph Quinn put himself on the map with a standout performance as Eddie Munson in Netflix's Stranger Things, but by far his biggest role will be as Johnny Storm, a.k.a the Human Torch, in Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four.
If all goes to plan, it's a character he'll portray for the next decade or more; however, in an interview with GQ, Quinn admits, "That was a surprising phone call." While he's still processing landing the role (previously brought to life on screen by Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan), he notes that "the wheels are getting moving" on the project.
"I’ve met Ebon very briefly, Vanessa I have lots of mutual friends with," Quinn says of his co-stars. He already knows Pedro Pascal because they've worked on Ridley Scott's Gladiator sequel together, but there's one cast member, in particular, he's thrilled to share the screen with: John Malkovich.

There are many examples of sequels that proceed without the original film’s star. Gladiator II will obviously not be able to feature Maximus Decimus Meridius after his arc ended in the first film. However, that will not stop attention being paid to Russell Crowe for the upcoming sequel despite the fact that he has no involvement. Last year, Crowe joked that he should be reimbursed for all the Gladiator II questions he’s fielded, “They should be f*cking paying me for the amount of questions I get asked about the f*cking film that I am not even in,” adding, “in that world, I’m dead, six feet under. And that’s that.” However, he also thinks the movie is bound to be extraordinary. “If Ridley has decided to do a second part … he will have really strong reasons…I couldn’t think of that movie being less than absolutely spectacular.

Russell Crowe is sharing his thoughts on Ridley Scott‘s Gladiator sequel, admitting that he’s “slightly uncomfortable” that it’s being made.
During a recent interview with Kyle Meredith, the Oscar-winning actor said, “I’m slightly uncomfortable with the fact they’re making another one — because, of course, [my character is] dead and I have no say in what gets done. But a couple of the things I’ve heard, I’m like, ‘No, no, no, that’s not in the moral journey of that particular character.’ But I can’t say anything, it’s not my place, I’m six foot under. So we’ll see what that is like.”
Crowe played Roman general Maximus in 2000’s Gladiator. The film, also directed by Scott, follows his character as he sets out to exact vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery.

If we wanted to be frank, Gladiator II, when originally confirmed, was among the more unexpected sequels we got. It’s not that we did not want it… but there was a feeling that we did not want it 20+ years later and in a phase when Hollywood was scraping off the success of previous movies and franchises. Sure, the history of Roman gladiators is a rich one, but when Scott’s original film first aired, especially with what happened to the main character, no one really wanted a sequel more than two decades later. But, here we are… we’re back in Ancient Rome, and the movie is, if everything goes according to plan, going to come out on November 22, 2024, and will star Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, a character from the first movie.

Marvel Studios first announced plans to reboot the Fantastic Four in 2019. The Covid-19 pandemic and Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts' decision to leave the project slowed things down, but The Fantastic Four is finally heading our way next year.
WandaVision's Matt Shakman will be at the helm, and a first-look promo image confirmed it takes place in the 1960s...and in another reality.
Fans had long wondered how Marvel Studios would go about introducing Marvel's First Family, with the prevailing theory being that they might have gained their powers during The Blip. Instead, they'll hail from another Earth altogether.
That doesn't mean they won't eventually make their way to a more familiar setting, of course.

We’ve all heard of the concept of “Save the Cat,” but before Lupita Nyong’o could do that, she first had to be able to face one. In her upcoming film, “A Quiet Place: Day One” — a prequel within the “Quiet Place” franchise — one of Nyong’o’s main companions throughout surviving the terrifying experience of alien invasion is a little furry friend. In a recent interview with Glamour, Nyong’o confessed her initial apprehension towards felines, but how undergoing “cat therapy” and making the film changed her attitude and her affection for the animal.
“I asked the director Michael Sarnoski if there was any way that we could change the animal. I suggested an armadillo; he was not having it,” Nyong’o said, later adding, “I had to learn a lot about myself, about the animal, before I was comfortable to do it.”

For his directorial debut, Michael Sarnoski gave us something unexpectedly emotional: a tale of Nicolas Cage desperately tracking down his lost prized pig. But for his Pig follow-up, Sarnoski is taking a real leap – stepping up in scale and scope, and wrangling a bigger budget, in A Quiet Place: Day One. Following up John Krasinski’s films about an attack from audibly-enhanced aliens, Sarnoski’s prequel will take us back to ‘Day One’ of the invasion – first depicted in small-town form in A Quiet Place: Part II, and now transposed to one of the biggest, loudest places on Earth: New York City.
While the stage is set for an all-out cacophonous monster attack movie, Krasinski hand-picked Sarnoski for the job because of Pig’s subtleties. “When [Krasinski] first brought me onto the project, his directive was, ‘Can you bring some of that Pig touch to the A Quiet Place universe?’,” Sarnoski tells Empire.

The sci-fi horror A Quiet Place franchise is heading to New York with its latest entry, A Quiet Place: Day One, which is set to reach theatres on June 28th – and with that release date just a few weeks away, Empire has published an interview with director Michael Sarnoski, who earned a lot of positive attention with his feature directorial debut Pig (watch it Here) a few years ago, in which he discusses what it was like to enter the world that was created by John Krasinski, the director of A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place: Part II.
Sarnoski said, “When [Krasinski] first brought me onto the project, his directive was, ‘Can you bring some of that Pig touch to the A Quiet Place universe?’ What he wanted was to see someone else play in the sandbox that he had created. Finding those differences was exciting. It wasn’t something that we leaned away from.

Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o has opened up on overcoming her fear of cats, recovering from a breakup so bad her mother flew to be by her side from Kenya, and what she believes to be the worst part of her job: interviews.

Lupita Nyong’o is embarking on a global press tour as the star of Paramount’s horror prequel “A Quiet Place: Day One,” but she could probably do without the press junkets. During an interview with Glamour magazine, the Oscar winner was asked about what irritates her most about being an actor.

Nyong’o clarified by saying that she does not necessarily mean all interviews are torture, but she does find press junkets to be a “torture technique” as “different people are being ferried in” to ask the same questions. She added: “You have to give each one of them attention, focus and an articulate answer that you just gave to the person before. That’s irritating.”

Those weren't great and were a product of their time; so, when a reboot from Chronicle director Josh Trank rolled around in 2015, there was a fair bit of excitement among fans.
The trailers promised a body-horror tale but studio-mandated reshoots turned it into a mess.
The team has sat on the shelf ever since, though that will finally change next year with Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four. Filmmaker Matt Shakman has assembled an impressive A-List cast, including Black Bird and Cruella star Paul Walter Hauser.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor admitted that those awful past efforts made him think twice about starring in this latest reboot.

It was not lost on Paul Walter Hauser that previous film representations of the Fantastic Four did not exactly set the world on fire.
During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the in-demand actor reveals that those poorly received movie adaptations of Marvel’s superhero team made him give some extra thought before joining director Matt Shakman’s Disney film that is set to hit theaters July 25, 2025. Hauser, who recently earned an Emmy for his role in Black Bird, will play a not-yet-disclosed role in the project that features Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing).
“Don’t think that didn’t weigh in as I was deciding whether or not to take the job,” Hauser says of the property’s checkered Hollywood past. “That movie has not fully been nailed just yet.”
He continues, “But I really do think the combination of the screenplay,...

May ended up being more than a bit of a letdown at the box office, yet the summer movie season continues on with three more major franchise sequels (or prequels) and a few other attempts at variety. Read on for Gold Derby’s June 2024 box office preview.
“Inside Out 2” (Disney/Pixar – June 14)
Disney and Pixar Animation are hoping to make a comeback with this sequel to Pete Docter‘s 2015 Oscar-winning animated blockbuster, which grossed $850.6 million worldwide after opening with $90.4 million domestically. Directed by Kelsey Mann, the sequel introduces a number of new emotions including Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, Envy voiced by Emmy winner Ayo Edebiri, Paul Walter Hauser voicing Embarassment, and Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui (because it’s a French emotion). Mindy Kaling‘s Disgust has also been recast with Liza Lapira from “The Equalizer.” In the “before times,” there was little reason for this not to open with more than $100 million,...

"The world is coming to an end, and how does one best manage the emotional rollercoaster?" Paramount has debuted a first look featurette for the sci-fi prequel A Quiet Place: Day One, arriving in theaters very soon at the end of June this summer. This making of promo features the cast explaining this story being set in New York City at the start of the alien invasion when the creatures first arrive. Lupita Nyong'o stars as a woman named Sam in NYC caught up in all of the apocalyptic mayhem. As every street goes quiet, she is thrown together with a man named Eric. With some reluctance, the pair agree to navigate and survive the city together. And she has a cat. The cast also includes Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, and Denis O'Hare. To top it off, this is directed by the same filmmaker who last made Nicolas Cage's Pig movie.

In A Quiet Place Part One, we witnessed the aftermath of the alien invasion, with some flashbacks interspersed with the “Death Angels” arrival on the meteorites, emergence and the subsequent non-stop attacks on anything that made even the slightest noise. We came to love the Abbott family and mourned when husband and father Lee Abbott was killed when saving his children from the claws of the monsters.
In A Quiet Place Part II, audiences saw The Abbott family and their little town decimated. As the Abbotts, Evelyn and her children, hunt for any viable refuge from the sounds that draw the omnipresent creatures, they stumble upon an old acquaintance turned into a determined loner whose past makes it difficult for them to trust his true intentions. This is Emmett portrayed by Cillian Murphy. As was briefly referenced in Part II in a conversation between Murphy (Emmett) and Djimon Hounsou (Man...

Brad Pitt and George Clooney are back together on film — outside of the “Ocean’s” cinematic universe.
The duo co-star in action-comedy movie “Wolfs,” which is written and directed by Jon Watts. In “Wolfs,” Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high-profile crime. But when a second fixer (Pitt) shows up and the two “lone wolves” are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected. Just another night in the fixer industry, we imagine.
Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan co-star in “Wolfs.”
Both Clooney and Pitt produce the film, as do Watts, Grant Heslov, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dianne McGunigle. Michael Beugg executive produces.
Watts is also making a Steven Spielberg-inspired “Star Wars” series for Disney+ that will star Jude Law. Watts was actually supposed to direct the “Fantastic Four” reboot,...

Bret Easton Ellis’ series at HBO is inching closer to reality. HBO has tapped Kristoffer Borgli to direct the series adaptation of the Ellis book “The Shards.”
Borgli, who directed last year’s “Dream Scenario” starring Nicolas Cage and 2022’s “Sick of Myself,” is attached to direct and serve as an executive producer on the series that’s currently in development at HBO.
Ellis published “The Shards” just last year, and the series per its official logline is “set in the early ’80s and tracks a group of privileged Los Angeles High School friends as a serial killer strikes across the city.”
But what makes “The Shards” ripe for an adaptation is that it’s a pulpy and sexy yet sprawling and unwieldy piece of fiction featuring much of Ellis’ own biography. While it follows the murders of a serial killer known as The Trawler with great detail, it also...

A few months back, Marvel Studios revealed the actors set to play the main roles in the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot. Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards, alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm. They’ll be joined by Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. Julia Garner will take on the role of Shalla-Bal, the MCU’s Silver Surfer.
The casting stirred up quite a bit of controversy, with much of the criticism aimed at Garner’s portrayal of Silver Surfer. Pedro Pascal also faced some negative comments, with many fans skeptical about his ability to portray Mr. Fantastic, still holding out hope for Krasinski in the role.

When the cast of next year’s The Fantastic Four was announced, a lot of people – including our readers – were left underwhelmed. One decision that failed to push much interest was Pedro Pascal, who was cast as Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic. We all love Pascal but one does have to wonder what somebody else could do with the role; and certainly there were a lot of other names that were either considered or wanted it. One in the latter camp is Rahul Kohli, better known for TV work for Mike Flanagan.
Rahul Kohli recently recalled being passed over for one of the lead roles in The Fantastic Four, saying it represents where he is in his career. “I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but I didn’t get it, is the important thing. But on good days, I see the Constantine. It will flare up once and again.

Breaking Bad and The Boys star Giancarlo Esposito recently revealed he's joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a mystery role. A few hours ago, a rumour cropped up claiming he'll star in a Disney+ TV series and the actor himself has now confirmed that is indeed the case.
"The MCU has knocked on my door and it's a role you won’t predict," Esposito told fans during a recent convention appearance. "It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards."
This appears to debunk theories he'll voice Norman Osborn in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man as there's nowhere for that villain to be teased before the animated series launches on the streamer either this year or next.
Interestingly, the fan who shared these updates adds that when someone mentioned to Esposito that he'd make an "excellent" Doctor Doom in The Fantastic Four, he mentioned "talking it into existence and making yourself believe in it.

To be honest, Gladiator II is one of the more unexpected sequels we got, but… we managed to get it nevertheless. Sure, the history of Roman gladiators is a rich one, but then Scott’s original film first aired, especially with what happened to the main character, no one really thought that the story would be exploited further. More gladiator films? Sure, but not a sequel to the original movie. But, we’re back, and the movie is, if everything goes according to plan, going to come out on November 22, 2024, and will star Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, a character from the first movie.
But, while this is more or less settled, we have to state that another Oscar nominee was initially attached to the project, but has left it in the meantime due to supposed scheduling conflicts. The actor in question is Barry Keoghan and in this report,...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been known for its impeccable casting choices. Whether it was casting the original Avengers or characters in the upcoming movies and shows, the MCU pretty much has been nailing it all. Yet, when it announced the casting of Marvel’s first family, not all fans seemed to be happy. Not only are the cast of the upcoming Fantastic Four older, but some fans believe they aren’t the right choice.

There is little doubt that Marvel has seen a gross loss in quality in recent years, perhaps after the incessant success of Avengers: Endgame. However, things are certainly looking on the up, at least potentially, with a range of exciting projects set to be released in the coming time.
This, quite notably, includes the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, which has been allotted a release date of July 25, 2025, for the time being. Featuring a glut of stars such as Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, it seems as if another superstar of Indian origin, previously seen in CBS’s SuperGirl, Rahul Kohli, was also in the running for a major role.

Rahul Kohli was close to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the actor tried out for a role in the upcoming The Fantastic Four.
The actor from iZombie and The Fall of the House of Usher recently revealed he was being considered for the role of Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards.

He continued, “On bad days, ‘It’s a reminder that you’re not the guy. You’re not there. These are the roles you’ll never get.

After seemingly endless rumours, Marvel Studios finally announced The Fantastic Four cast earlier this year. Each of them had been linked to the reboot at one time or another, so there were no major surprises for those who had been closely following the casting process.

Stranger Things’ rabid internet fandom leads to some fascinating places. People connect different parts of the series in novel ways, often leading to intense discourse about storylines and characters that some choose to forget. But one Stranger Things character from season 1 has had an uncommon staying power in the fandom. A quick look at the show’s Reddit board or trending hashtags on social media will lead to the more-than-periodic mention of Nancy Wheeler’s (Natalia Dyer) first-season best friend, Barbara “Barb” Holland (Shannon Purser).

Meals eaten off lettuce leaves, walking barefoot on paths made of sand, furious arguments taking place entirely in sign language. A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place: Part II introduced us to a world of oppressive silence through the eyes of the people who had lived long enough to learn those lessons.
