Born and raised in Brooklyn, Perez has been an activist for a number of causes, with President Obama appointing her in 2010 to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (Pacha).

Nicola Coughlan is nowhere near done with “Bridgerton,” but the star of Season 3 can’t help looking down the road. After making the seamless jump from wallflower to leading lady with Penelope’s story, she recognizes that her character will move to the periphery after Parts 1 and 2 premiere this summer.
“I was talking to Luke Newton about this the other day,” Coughlan told IndieWire the day before “Bridgerton” Season 3 – Part 1 premiered. “There’s something nice about kind of going back to the drawing board thing as an actor. You’re not going back to point zero, but it’s nice to go ‘Now I’ve got to work my ass off again to get a job.'”
Coughlan was conscious of the fact that a lot of actors reach a point where they no longer accept auditions, just offers, but she feels it’s too important to test the waters...

Ryan Gosling’s latest project, The Fall Guy, has been met with a cruel twist of fate, following its release on 3 May, 2024. After barely running for a month, the movie is now preparing for its release on streaming platforms. Managing to gross $127M so far on a $140M budget, producers are now looking to capitalize on Gosling’s film by shortening its traditional theatrical run.

When Cate Blanchett starts shooting a new movie or show, it’s always the same story.
“It’s like Groundhog Day,” Blanchett said at the Kering Women in Motion Talks at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday. “I do the head count, and I’m back in the same place, working with men who I love working with and respect, [but] I’m walking on set and there’s 50 people on set and there’s three women. When is this going to deeply, profoundly shift?”
Blanchett is trying to change a system that remains male-dominated despite all the panels and protests and calls for action. In addition to debuting her latest film “Rumours” (which she also executive produced), the Oscar-winner is at the festival to promote Proof of Concept, an accelerator program she co-founded last year to elevate the perspectives of women, trans and nonbinary people by financially backing their short “proof of concept” films.

Charli Xcx started to think about what it would be like to have a baby. The 31-year-old has always been an artist of extremes, a main character thriving on an emotional and creative knife edge. But the timing wasn’t about craving novelty, on this occasion. She’s now in her thirties and in a happy relationship of equals with The 1975’s George Daniel.

Margot Robbie is one of the most prolific actresses working in Hollywood today. She created history when she starred in last year’s Barbie, which became the highest-grossing movie of the year and broke multiple records. She also co-produced the film under her Lucky Chap Entertainment production company.
Robbie has also been widely regarded as one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. But reportedly that did not save her from experiencing a bad date. During a press meet for Suicide Squad, Robbie revealed that she had once been on a date that was so bad that she asked out the waiter instead to escape from it.

Filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, and Christopher Nolan are known for pushing the boundaries in blockbuster filmmaking as they bring in original ideas and mount them on a large scale. While the directors have grown to be critical favorites, they also seem to have won the box office race with their original films.
Among these legends, Christopher Nolan seems to have gained the top spot in one category. With four of his original films grossing over $500 million at the box office, Nolan beat Spielberg and Roland Emmerich to gain the top spot. The Oscar-winner is the only filmmaker to have achieved this feat with movies that are not comic adaptations, reboots, or sequels.

Ryan Gosling is unarguably one of the best actors in the entire global entertainment industry, perfect with his charismatic personality, which has established him as one of the greatest heartthrobs of all time. But that isn’t all, because he is also quite literally the ultimate Prince of Hollywood — and, for the record, it’s not just for all those fan-girlies swooning about him out there.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is something Ryan Gosling would love to be a part of, even though he has not starred in any superhero flicks yet. Not only that, but he already knows the character he would most like to play.

In just a few short years, Billie Eilish has demonstrated a keen sense of range that’s far beyond her 22 years, and she’s managed to tap into—and help shape—the cultural zeitgeist more than once, writing anthems for bad guys, Bond, and Barbie. With her exquisite third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, she further cements her status as alt-pop’s happy warrior, keeping one foot in the mainstream and another firmly outside of it.
At just 10 tracks, Hit Me Hard and Soft is both Eilish’s most concise and most ambitious album to date. Throughout, she and her main collaborator, brother Finneas, experiment with song structure and style, examining her celebrity and persona, in ways that are both playful and profound. Packed with multipart songs and self-referential lyrics that reward repeat listens, the album is a world unto itself—and the most fully realized version of Eilish’s sound.

As the word “diversity” became one of the most spoken in Hollywood on the wave of #OscarsSoWhite and #MeToo, Dr. Stacy L. Smith’s USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative became one of the foremost barometers of the entertainment industry’s success or lack thereof in bringing new, underrepresented voices into the production pipeline.
Now, with Dei executives resigning en masse and a far-right backlash to such initiatives on the rise, the program’s founder fears that Hollywood is in the midst of backslide, through no fault of the writers, directors and other creatives who got those new opportunities. Her team’s most recent study shows that despite the success of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” 2023 saw a significant dip when it comes to representation in theatrical films.
“It’s not about their talent. It’s not about the audience. We know that for sure, in terms of our own economic analyses,” Smith told TheWrap.

My favorite scene in the hilarious new film “The Fall Guy” is the one where Emily Blunt (recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for “Oppenheimer”) belts out the Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” as Ryan Gosling (recent Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee for “Barbie”) finds himself in a particularly dramatic — and dangerous — sequence of events.
As Blunt sang with all her heart, I couldn’t help but think of how perfect the timing was.
Forty years ago this very month, the famous power ballad had just completed a three-week reign on top of the Billboard Hot 100. “Against All Odds” was the title song from the romantic thriller starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods. The Taylor Hackford-directed movie was met with solid reviews and healthy ticket sales. But its most notable success was Collins’s song, which quickly took the Billboard chart by storm.

Below Deck, Season 11 has given fans many feuds, including one between Captain Kerry Titheradge and Ben Willoughby.

“Jaws” in 1975 is remembered as the movie that birthed the summer global blockbuster; its many children include “Star Wars,” Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” “Top Gun,” “Ghostbusters,” “Ghost,” “Twister,” “The Lion King,” “Independence Day,” “Speed,” and “Men in Black.” Today, that bloodline is threatened with extinction.
On the surface, that seems ridiculous — summer box office is still defined by blockbusters — but today that means sequels. It’s become exceedingly rare for studios to invest over $100 million in a summer movie with an original screenplay that’s not already part of a franchise. That’s what makes Paramount Pictures’ $110 million “If” such an outlier.
Still, being that exception also hands writer-director John Krasinski a double-edged sword. Those original blockbusters — all released between 1975-1999 — ended up with domestic gross totals, in 2024 ticket price terms, of over $400 million. “I would start going to class, walk around campus, and people were like, ‘Yo, I’ve seen your video! I saw your video on Instagram!'” he says. “That was back when I had 3,000 followers.

Billie Eilish Once Opened Up About Being Bullied. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Billie Eilish is a renowned music artist and has achieved immense fame and acclaim at a young age. She bagged the Academy Award for the second time this year for her song in Barbie. Eilish is currently the hot topic because of her latest album. Billie released her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. The young songstress’ popularity did not come easy; she faced bullying and abuse online. The Oscar winner opened up about it once, which was heartbreaking.
She was born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell. She rose to fame with her debut single, Ocean Eyes, produced by her brother Finneas O’Connell, with whom she collaborates on music. With a mission wholly unique at the time, make money while inspiring social change through entertainment, Participant Media managed to rewrite the rules of Hollywood during its all too short 20-year run. The studio singlehandedly proved to the world that you can produce unbelievably great films that have an impact, and audiences will go see them. Most studios and filmmakers working today owe a debt of gratitude to Jeff Skoll and his team of visionaries. That’s why the announcement that the studio will be shutting its doors felt like a gut punch, especially at a time when Hollywood is feeling a bit limp and lifeless.
Amidst the backdrop of faltering democracies, news and information channels that appear polarized, a marathon pandemic, and the proliferation of streaming, entertainment media still stands king as a unifier, capable of bringing together broad swathes of audiences. So, while Participant’s award-winning documentary “He...

We first got confirmation that Marvel Studios was planning to introduce Nova to the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2022, and since then, there have been conflicting reports about which medium the project was being developed for.
Last we heard, the studio had settled on a movie, but a new rumor is claiming that Nova will be making his debut on the small screen after all.
According to Daniel Richtman, Nova will be a Disney+ series, and production is currently scheduled to get underway at some point next year. The reliable insider has also heard that the show will focus on a "young lead," which means there's a decent chance it won't be Richard Rider, but Marvel Comics' more recent incarnation of the space-faring hero, Sam Alexander.
A young lead would also indicate that Ryan Gosling won't be playing the character!

Like its titular superhero, The Flash arrived quickly last June and was just as quickly forgotten. Sure, it was talked about for some time after its release, but the lingering sentiment wasn't always enthusiastic, and Warner Bros. and audiences alike were looking forward to the upcoming release of Barbie, which would finally eclipse The Flash's critical and commercial failure. However, both hardcore fans and those who don't pay attention to critical reception have probably seen the movie more than once. And whether it's your first or tenth time seeing The Flash, you may not have noticed these 12 movie mistakes.
12 of the Flash's Biggest (And Least Obvious) Movie Mistakes
1. So was it a red car or a black car, Batman?

Exclusive: Michael Cera caught Tyler Taormina’s feature directing debut Ham on Rye after a friend suggested he check it out. He was so impressed that he signed himself up as a sort of producing “cheerleader” on the filmmaker’s latest picture Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point, which plays in Directors’ Fortnight on Friday,May 17, at the Cannes Film Festival.
Cera’s quick to point out that Krista Minto, co-writer Eric Berger and others did the heavy-lifting producer duties on the picture that’s almost like a fly-on-the-wall exploration of a sprawling Long Island family’s holiday get-together.
“They’re the ones who actually made the movies,” he stressed.
The film’s Cannes screening comes at a time when Cera, who has made short films, has two films in development, both of which he will direct. One of them is called Gummy, the other is untitled. The untitled one is likely to go first,...

How do the makers of Bridgerton keep a fandom as dedicated as theirs guessing? How does the Netflix show surprise a core of fans who are so intimately familiar with Julia Quinn’s source books that they’re anticipating every blush and ball before it even gets to the screen?
One solution, as has happened in season three, is to play with the established order of things. Though Benedict Bridgerton’s romance follows on from that of his brother Anthony’s in Quinn’s book series, the TV show has (rightly!) vaulted over that to first show the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Their other answer? Invention. In addition to TV-only characters Madame Delacroix, Will and Alice Mondrich and Queen Charlotte herself, a new raft of invented-for-the-show characters appear in season three. Here they all are, along with info on the actors playing them, plus a couple...

It has been seven years since the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. It is, undoubtedly, one of the biggest franchises that Disney has been trying to reboot the movie series for quite a while.
Johnny Depp’s Capt. Jack Sparrow
In this scenario, reboot means the absence of Depp, and for obvious reasons, it would be hard for anyone to imagine the franchise without Depp leading the film series. However, recent reports suggest that Dune: Part Two star Austin Butler is being eyed to lead the new reboot of the popular movie series.

YouTube’s message to Madison Avenue: The video giant isn’t like traditional TV — it’s bigger, with literally billions of viewers, and better at targeting relevant audiences.
At its annual Brandcast event, held Wednesday during the TV biz’s upfronts week, YouTube drilled home massive scale. On average, viewers watch more than 1 billion hours of content on TV screens daily. According to Nielsen’s total TV and streaming report for the U.S., YouTube has had the No. 1 share in streaming watch-time every month on American TVs since February 2023.
“We’re redefining what TV looks like, helping creators reach new heights and using AI to expand creativity,” said YouTube CEO Neal Mohan (pictured above), kicking off the evening’s event Wednesday.

Emboldened by the success of Barbie, the biggest theatrical film of 2023 and also a potent draw in streaming, Warner Bros. Discovery mobilized its film slate in its upfront presentation to advertisers.
Execs pointed to upcoming tentpoles like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (which was nearing its world premiere in Cannes as Wbd execs were pitching advertisers) and DC’s retooled Superman.
The company was the latest during upfront week to foreground its movie slate. NBCUniversal debuted a 4-minute trailer for Wicked on Monday and the following day Disney and Amazon used film as an opening salvo. A few years ago, the film and TV worlds would never intersect in an advertising setting, but the rise of streaming as well as the increasing presence of ads in streaming has brought them together.

Warner Bros. Discovery kept up with TV upfronts week’s biggest trend at their presentation out of The Theater at Madison Square Garden Tuesday: Promoting not just its TV slate as a prime ad-buying opportunity — but also its film franchises.
First up from CEO David Zaslav’s team, WB Discovery revenue and strategy chief Bruce Campbell addressed the Madison Avenue crowd following a sizzle featuring top Wbd IP and brands across film and TV series. Then Mindy Kaling took the stage to promote her Max comedy “The Sex Lives of College Girls” before introducing HBO and Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys.

Cannes Film Festival president Iris Knobloch kicked off her mandate last year with a banner edition that saw the premieres of Oscar-winners “The Zone of Interest” and “Anatomy of a Fall.”
Ever since, Knobloch — who is the former boss of WarnerMedia France and Germany — has been discreetly collaborating with festival director Thierry Frémaux to lure U.S. studios and talent on the Croisette. And while the film business’ state of mind is rather gloomy, Cannes opened on a vibrant note Tuesday night with a tribute to Meryl Streep, who hadn’t been at Cannes since “A Cry in the Dark,” for which she won best actress in 1989. The ceremony also celebrated “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, who is presiding over the competition jury.

The television industry’s annual “upfront” is usually a place where advertisers get to preview new series and specials, not blockbuster movies, so NBC raised eyebrows Monday when one of the first previews it showed to an audience at Radio City Music Hall was of the coming Universal film “Wicked.”
NBCUniversal, chief content officer Donna Langley told the crowd, was “excited to build up our story legacy across film, TV and streaming.”
Movies and premium cable series from HBO and Showtime used to be something traditional TV advertisers got their hands on only after they had made their way through theaters and pay-tv windows. Now, as a batch of this year’s upfront showcases reveal, they are increasingly being dangled before Madison Avenue as a major reason to support TV companies.

The stormy clouds outside the Palais might have dampened some spirits as the credits rolled on the opening night film of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Or maybe it was the movie itself.
“The Second Act,” Quentin Dupieux’s talky French comedy about the making of the first movie directed by AI, mustered a lukewarm 3.5-minute standing ovation on Tuesday night in Cannes.
Dupieux attedned the premiere along with his French cast of Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon and Raphaël Quenard. The four actors all politely stood as a camera quickly passed by through the tepid applause.

Updated with ovation for The Second Act: The Cannes Film Festival opened Tuesday evening with a joyously female vibe as Meryl Streep received the Honorary Palme d’Or from an emotional Juliette Binoche and Greta Gerwig became the first female U.S. director to serve as jury president across its 77 editions.
The ceremony at the Palais led into the festival’s opening-night film The Second Act from Quentin Dupieux. The French pic, starring Léa Seydoux and Louis Garrel, received a lukewarm 3-minute, 46-second standing ovation from the audience.
Earlier, resplendent in a long sequin gown, Gerwig said she was still coming to terms with the fact that she was presiding over the Cannes jury.
“I hardly know what to say… This is holy to me; art is sacred, film is sacred… I cannot believe that I’m getting the chance to spend 10 days in this house of worship.”

Who let the dog out?
The Cannes Film Festival red carpet is notoriously strict about its black-tie dress code (one man in a blue tuxedo who committed the fashion travesty of wearing white socks was almost turned away). But on Tuesday night, France welcomed a national hero to the opening night of the 77th edition — Messi, the four-legged scene-stealer from last year’s Palme d’Or winner “Anatomy of a Fall.”
The canine phenom helped brighten things up even as dark clouds gathered over the Palais des Festivals, site of Cannes’ biggest premieres. Despite the foreboding weather and light drizzle, Lily Gladstone, Greta Gerwig, Omar Sy, Jane Fonda, Juliette Binoche and other stars added some glamour and sparkle to the evening.

Exclusive: Thriving U.S. indie producer-distributor Neon is no stranger to the Cannes Film Festival with the Tom Quinn-founded banner having acquired a historic four consecutive Palme d’Or wins, thus earning them the nickname “the Palme d’Or whisperers”. This year, while the company has Sean Baker’s new rom-com Anora playing in Competition, it’s also descending upon the Croisette in a new capacity with its recently-launched international sales strand, led by seasoned sales exec and Sierra/Affinity veteran Kristen Figeroid.
International buyers will be hard pressed not to notice the new Neon banner right on the Croisette this year, as the company launches sales on Osgood Perkins’ next genre movie Keeper, starring Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland. Neon is already set to distribute the title in the U.S. (Elevation...

Omar Sy, Lily Gladstone, Greta Gerwig and Ebru Ceylan Photo: Richard Mowe There was no holding back Barbie director Greta Gerwig, flanked by Ebru Cylan, Lily Gladstone and Omar Sy, during the jury press conference earlier today at the Cannes Film Festival.
She was total pushover for the role of jury president: "One of my favourite things to do is to watch cinema and discuss it. It feels thrilling to be a part of it. I'm still shocked at being chosen in the wake of previous female presidents such as Jane Campion. I’m living the dream."
Greta Gerwig on the #MeToo movement: 'I can't speak to timelines, but the movement is evolving' Photo: Richard Mowe On the #MeToo issues rumbling around Cannes, she said: "I think people in the community of movies telling us stories and trying to change things for the better is only good. While this year’s Cannes film festival jury president declared her role ‘a dream come true’, storms over sexual abuse and workers’ rights are expected
The reviews were gushing on the first day of the 77th Cannes film festival, as Barbie director Greta Gerwig took up her duties as this year’s jury president. Festival bosses variously hailed the American film-maker as a “cultural phenomenon”, a “heroine for modern times” and a woman who embodies “the future of cinema”. The fanfare was such that it almost drowned out the discord as the world’s premier movie showcase opened against a backdrop of threatened labour disputes and a rumoured report of alleged sexual abuse within the industry.
“This is beyond a dream come true,” said Gerwig, who presides over a nine-member jury that includes Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda and actors Lily Gladstone and Eva Green. “One of the favourite things that...

The Cannes Film Festival opened Tuesday with expectations that the big theme of this 77th edition will be #MeToo, even if rumors of an imminent bombshell exposé involving 10 prominent cinema figures were quashed overnight.
France’s #MeToo wave, sparked by actress and filmmaker Judith Godrèche’s decision to speak up about sexual abuse she says she suffered as a teenager and her subsequent campaign to end what she calls a culture of silence in the French film world, will be omnipresent.
Godrèche’s actions have encouraged thousands of sexual abuse victims across all walks of life to speak up about their experiences.
The actress and filmmaker will be in Cannes for the world premiere on Wednesday evening of her resulting short film Moi Aussi, gathering 1,000 people who got in touch with her via social media channels to tell their stories.
However, frenzied media speculation that a #MeToo exposé naming 10 prominent...

Omar Sy, Eva Green, Lily Gladstone, Pierfrancesco Favino, Hirokazu Kore-eda, J.A. Bayona, Nadine Labaki, and Ebru Ceylan, along with Gerwig, convened at the Palais des Festivals for the annual opening day press conference. But the 77th edition of the global leading film festival is on edge right now as Cannes stares down two major scandals plaguing the Croisette and the French film industry at large. There’s a looming potential strike from a labor collective calling itself Sous les écrans la dèch,...

With rumors of a bombshell #MeToo report about the French cinema industry knocking on the door of the Cannes Film Festival, this year’s jury president Greta Gerwig on Tuesday acknowledged the wave that’s out there in a way that festival boss Thierry Frémaux didn’t want to address at his press conference the day before.
“I think people in the community of movies telling their stories and changing things for the better is only good,” said the Barbie filmmaker at a press conference introducing the jury just hours before the festival’s opening night begins. “I’ve seen substantial changes in the American film community; I think it’s important to expand the conversation.”
“It’s only moving things in the correct direction, keeping those lines of communication open,” said Gerwig about a press member’s query as to whether the current #MeToo climate is France is impacting the festival.
