Bon Jovi have announced a new album, Forever, out June 7th via Island Records. As a preview, the band has unveiled the video for its lead single, “Legendary.”
The pop-country-tinged track is anthemic and positive, fueled by major chords, “whoa-oh” choruses, and Jon Bon Jovi’s charismatic presence. The singer has battled vocal issues in recent years, but his voice sounds clean on the verses as backing vocals by the rest of the band supplement the song’s chorus.
“This record is a return to joy,” said Jon Bon Jovi via a press release. “From the writing, through the recording process, this is turn up the volume, feel good Bon Jovi.”
Bon Jovi are celebrating their 40th anniversary as a band this year. In addition to the new album, a career-spanning Hulu docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, is set to premiere on April 26th.

Winning an Oscar can open many doors. In the case of Johnnie Burn, who won the Academy Award for best sound on Sunday night for his work on Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” alongside Tarn Willers, it was a studio’s door the very next day.
The morning after the ceremony, the British sound designer — who also worked on the sound for Yorgos Lanthimos’ multiple Oscar-winning “Poor Things” — turned up at the Fox Studio Lot in Los Angeles to start mixing his next project, an untitled new feature starring Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan and the Weeknd directed by Trey Edward Shults.
However, Burn had completely forgotten to bring his ID to get through security.
“The Vanity Fair party had left me a little fuzzy headed,” he tells Variety.
Thankfully, Burn did have his freshly minted Oscar statue in his bag, which he pulled out and offered the guard.

The Zone of Interest. When you start to really hear a movie, you’ll never be able to unhear it. The sound designer, like the cinematographer, is an artist disguised as a technician, a wielder of microphones and mixers whose deepest desire is to serve a cinematic vision. Sound design usually stays in the shadows, but sometimes a film comes along that really makes you listen: Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest (2023) is one of those films. Its soundscapes are intense, involving, and essential to our narrative comprehension of the film; this is sound design as storytelling, as counterpoint, as argument. The artist in disguise behind The Zone of Interest is Johnnie Burn, a British sound designer who, over the past decade, has carved a reputation as the ear of new auteur cinema. As Hollywood continues to scale up its content production apparatus, annual gaps on our film and TV calendars become fewer and further between. It often feels like the holiday movie season extends into January, with the first month of the year serving as the de facto launchpad for award contenders that received brief qualifying runs at the end of December. And early release dates for blockbusters like the upcoming “Dune: Part Two” mean that the summer movie season essentially kicks off in March.
Still, all the excitement around the corner does not change the fact that February remains a lackluster month for new releases. But that shouldn’t be too much of an issue for anyone with a Netflix subscription, as the streaming service is adding a robust lineup of films to its library. The streaming service picks up an influx of A24 titles this month, including reigning Best Picture...

Jenna Ortega is teasing a more terrifying Season 2 of “Wednesday.”
The Netflix series, which landed Ortega her first Emmy nomination, will begin filming in April. Ortega told E! News at the 2023 Emmys on Monday, January 15, that the new scripts lean more into the horror elements of the Tim Burton series. Ortega is also serving as an executive producer for the second season.
“I’ve received some scripts for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into more horror,” Ortega said. “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her.
Ortega continued, “There’s really, really good one-liners, and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

Through six years and 106 episodes, Sterling K. Brown enjoyed his regular gig as the beloved family patriarch Randall in popular NBC series “This Is Us.” But he could only do a few things during the show’s hiatus periods. Now, he’s free to check out all the options coming his way.
“As an actor, it’s nice to have a job,” he said during a recent interview with IndieWire. “I got a chance to do something artistically fulfilling, with a story that impacted people’s lives by virtue of seeing the character in their living rooms, to pay the bills, to be at home with my wife and with my two kids. My babies are eight and 12. I guess I shouldn’t call them babies, but at any age until they leave the house, that’s how they feel. And I just want to enjoy as much of that time as possible.

Jenna Ortega is trying on playing a seductress for size. The “Beetlejuice 2” and “Wednesday” star leads psychological thriller “Miller’s Girl” in what appears to be a ’90s-esque tale of twisted teen power dynamics set against the backdrop of an elite university.
Martin Freeman stars as the titular Mr. Miller, a teacher who becomes entangled with talented student Cairo (Ortega), who has an agenda all her own. As 18-year-old Cairo taunts Mr. Miller into a game of truth or dare, a more sinister scheme of blackmailing ensues.
The official synopsis reads: “A talented young writer (Ortega) embarks on a creative odyssey when her teacher (Freeman) assigns a project that entangles them both in an increasingly complex web. As lines blur and their lives intertwine, professor and protégé must confront their darkest selves while straining to preserve their individual sense of purpose and the things they hold most dear.”

Jenna Ortega may be a fan of scary movies, but she’s no longer a part of the “Scream 7.”
Following rumors that Ortega was looking to part ways with the Spyglassfilms after her breakout role in Netflix series “Wednesday,” the actress confirmed she will not appear in “Scream 7,” sources tell IndieWire. Deadline first reported the news, citing that Ortega’s contract was being reevaluated prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Ortega is set to film “Wednesday” Season 2 in Ireland from April 2024 into the summer, and that “Scream 7” has a scheduling conflict.
Ortega starred in the fifth “Scream” film as Tara Carpenter, which served as a franchise reboot (meta-ly deemed “requel” in the movie). She reprised the role for “Scream VI.”
Ortega’s announcement comes on the heels of co-star Melissa Barrera, who plays Ortega’s onscreen half-sister, being fired for antisemitic comments that production company Spyglass Entertainment deemed antisemitic.

After Krisha (2015), It Comes at Night (2017) and Waves (2019), American indie filmmaker Trey Edward Shults might actually be shooting from both sides of the hip in 2024. The first project to see the light could very well be a film he developed with Abel Tesfaye aka “The Weeknd”. They co-wrote the currently untitled project together, and The Weeknd stars alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. Cinematographer Chayse Irvin is onboard and for the composers we find Opn + The Weeknd. Production would have taken place in February so this is more than ready acquisitions.

A24, in the span of a decade, has become one of the most trusted names in Hollywood for a certain breed of moviegoer. Though not nearly as big as legacy studios such as Disney or Warner Bros., A24 has garnered a voracious cult following. They release movies that veer far from the mainstream such as the farting corpse flick "Swiss Army Man," Kevin Smith's wild body horror film "Tusk," and the Best Picture winner "Everything Everywhere All at Once." They may not make billion-dollar popcorn flicks, but they sure as heck have carved out a unique brand. That A24 logo means something to people. That carries a certain value.

For the past decade, A24 has cultivated an almost cultlike devotion from its fans, thanks to its excellent taste in projects and idiosyncratic, meme-able movies like “The Witch,” “Uncut Gems” and “Midsommar.” Their films inspire such interest that their features usually come with a curated, highly sought-after merchandise drop that fans can purchase via their official website.
But a new strategy — which includes chasing the rights to the “Halloween” franchise — could land them in a place that, for all their big swings, they’ve never been before: the mainstream.
According to a top agent with knowledge of the company, over the summer A24 acquisition executive Noah Sacco made the talent agency rounds in search of “action and big IP projects.” The studio, the agent told TheWrap, is “deemphasizing the traditional character/auteur driven dramas.”

With “American Fiction,” Cord Jefferson, best known for penning television episodes of “Succession” and “Watchmen,” helms one of the finest directorial debuts seen since Sam Mendes’ “American Beauty.” In the style that feels like an audacious blend of the screenplays of Alexander Payne’s “Sideways” and Nicole Holofcener’s “Can You Ever Forgive Me,” he shepherds an audacious dramedy anchored by a career-best and Oscar-worthy performance from star Jeffrey Wright. After debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival, it’s a movie that could be a contender for the coveted TIFF Audience Award, and it would be deserved.
Based on the novel “Erasure” by Percival Everett, the film follows author Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Wright), a frustrated novelist who is fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk writes an outlandish “Black” book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and madness.

“Essential Truths of the Lake” is the last thing most people would expect from Lav Diaz: a direct follow-up to his previous film, “When the Waves Are Gone.” It’s not a sequel, per se (this one actually comes earlier), but they are connected, with a third movie featuring the same disillusioned police detective in the works.
The Filipino filmmaker, whose pokey social critiques run anywhere from three to 11 hours, established the character of Lt. Hermes Papauran (John Lloyd Cruz) in “Waves.” Described there as “arguably the greatest Filipino investigator ever,” he’s Diaz’s version of “The Singing Detective”: a tortured enforcer afflicted with a skin condition that reflects on the surface the conflict and cynicism roiling within him. He’s a good cop in a corrupt country, furious with how Rodrigo Duterte mishandled the war on drugs.

For adults, the life of a modern teenager can seem profoundly unfathomable. Part of this is due to the rapidly accumulating cognitive fog that, for the grown-up brain, tends to obscure any true experiential memory of youth—a phenomenon constant throughout generations. But! An even bigger part of said profound unfathomability is, of course, the technology so closely interwoven with kids’ lives in the 21st century. Tech that can be used to a variety of ends good and bad, but most importantly to create.
Contained within each smartphone is a pre-production office, film crew, post house, advertising agency and multinational distributor. All this, in the hands of a generation that understands screens and the language visual digital expression as a rich and fully integrated part of daily life. Combine that intuition with a young person’s energy, imagination and earnest need for self-expression and you have the perfect alchemical formula for a natural-born filmmaker.

Taylor Russell, Ewan McGregor Title ‘Mother, Couch!’ to Bow at San Sebastian’s New Directors Sidebar
Starring “Bones and All’s” Taylor Russell, Ewan McGregor and Ellen Burstyn, “Mother, Couch!” the feature debut of Sweden’s Niclas Larsson, features in a currently 11-title lineup of San Sebastian’s 2023 New Directors section, the most important sidebar at the highest-profile movie event in the Spanish-speaking world.
Notable in Trey Edward Shults’ raved-reviewed debut “Waves,” Russell stars in “Mother, Couch,” billed as dark dramedy that, produced by Lyrical Media and Suris/Bishop Films, has largely flown under the radar. Though “Mother, Couch!” Is his feature debut, Larsson is a high-profile short filmmaker, his Vatten (2013) earned the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Göteborg, and 2015’s “The Magic Dinner” starred Alicia Vikander and Anna Wintour.
Section’s other highest-profile title is supernatural art house drama “Last Shadow at First Light,” shot between Singapore and Japan and directed by Nicole Midori and described by Variety as examining “the intangible nature...

Back to the Water Below marks Royal Blood’s fourth studio album, but in some ways, this go-around is the first time bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher really believed in their power as a band. “No-one saw the years of us playing in loads of bands to no-one, that all gets swept under the carpet because the other story is magical and much more wondrous,” Kerr explained in a statement. “Luck is where passion meets opportunity. We got our golden ticket and walked out as tiny ninjas. We were in the right place at the right time, and we have to remember to give ourselves the credit that we didn’t get into this position by winning a quiz show,...

With Jonathan Glazer’s previous films “Under the Skin” and “Birth,” the man was playing checkers. Now he’s playing chess with “The Zone of Interest.”
For 105 minutes, the auteur filmmaker who’s helmed just three feature films, including the 2000 crime thriller “Sexy Beast” with Oscar nominee Ben Kingsley, puts the audience through the wringer with his bleak Nazi drama told from the perpetrator’s perspective. The result is the first major Oscar player to emerge from the Cannes Film Festival, and a serious contender for the coveted Palme d’Or.
“Interest” is not for the faint of hearts. It’s a grueling endeavor that doesn’t use imagery to depict the horrors that resulted in the murdering of six million Jews. Instead, the soundscape provided by his frequent collaborator Johnnie Burn, the sound designer who’s snubbed work includes “The Favourite” and “Waves,” lays down his most audacious work yet.

Kelvin Harrison Jr. is currently making music magic as the talented violinist Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges in the film "Chevalier." The 28-year-old actor has been steadily building his résumé for a while now, appearing in hit titles like "Elvis" and "The Trial of the Chicago 7," but "Chevalier" - which released in theaters on April 21 - is poised to be his biggest star turn yet.
Bologne was a French violinist and composer who worked to take leadership of the Paris Opera during the onset of the French Revolution. Harrison Jr. himself is a talented musician and plays violin, jazz and gospel piano, and trumpet, in addition to being a vocalist. For his role in "Chevalier," though, he had to take his violin skills to a new level. A violinist named Ronald Long was originally brought on to be Harrison Jr.'s hand double -...
