Creed II (2018)
The saga should have ended here...
With Creed II I have a problem, it is that I want the focus to be on Rocky and Ivan Drago and not on their children. But I also know what it should be, but basically the meaning of the movie is the reunion between the two former boxers, therefore the rest takes a backseat. I know it would have been counterproductive but I would have liked a more tense atmosphere between the two of them and perhaps, also, some clean fists to liven up the plot. But hey, in the end Rocky is given closure and I think that's where the saga should have ended, no more, no less. Everything that comes later will inevitably be of lower quality due to the lack of the franchise's alma mater. Otherwise it is an entertaining movie and one that Rocky fans will love.
Echo (2023)
Marvel's decline continues
How bad can Marvel be that they think a series like this can be interesting?
How can you believe that a series that applies "clickbait" with Daredevil is a series about shamans?
Have we fans been underestimated for a long time?
All this occurs to me when thinking and watching this series.
Disastrous in its conception, disastrous in its execution. The most interesting thing was seeing Daredevil and Kingpin during the trailer and nothing else.
Be careful, until chapter 2-3 one would think that it was a violent series, with a protagonist with 0 charisma but hey, we would have some dark plot.
Suddenly out of the blue, a series that no one can recommend and that should be eliminated from the canon.
I have seen all the MCU products since 2008 and we know that since "End Game" we have had almost no good products (with the permission of Loki and perhaps Spiderman, which we know was more fanservice than anything else).
He stopped doing what gave Marvel so much profit, the connections.
It cannot be that for 4 years we have not known anything about some characters, movies with characters that did not appear again, multiple projects to which of all the least connected and more in line with a social agenda.
If Marvel doesn't change its ending it will be scandalous, maybe the Xmen, Daredevil and the Fantastic Four have the solution, maybe not, I just know that projects like Echo, Secret Invasion, She-Hulk, etc., are the ruin of this universe.
Halo (2022)
Big change between season 1 and 2, sometimes listening to the fans is worth it
It's incredible how a series can change so much from one season to the next.
Although I was never a regular at the games, I am not ignorant about the comments of the first season and the complaints from fans.
It had entertained me personally but it didn't blow my mind so to speak.
However, this second season was totally different. From an explosive beginning, through an incredible chapter 4 and perhaps the best of the series until the end of the season with the introduction of the "Flood".
Brutal development of many characters, deaths that are totally justified and make themselves felt. That feeling that everyone (except "Masterchief") could die was very latent throughout the season.
Excellent introduction and development of Ackerson, Parangosky as the most hated and with the worst ending and the addition of Private Perez made the season much more bearable.
Everything that bothered me during season 1 was changed and although the special effects are sometimes very average, all the fight sequences with continuous shots and choreography seem super consistent to me.
Many expected Kwan-Ha's death but I think it's very good where she took it and I think many will change their opinion regarding the character.
Of the rest of the Spartans, I liked Kai although at times I wanted to hit her, Riz was up to the task and the death of that great man like Vannak hurt, mainly because of her shape.
As for Coventant, it seems to me that both the Inquisitor and Makee are very good as antagonists and her ending, contrasting in thought and opinion with John, leaves an interesting conflict for future seasons.
I think Halsey, her daughter, and Cortana had less exposure compared to season 1, giving more screen to Soren and her family, which seems like a success to me.
I consider that this series should continue because its creators were aware of their mistakes and corrected them, I would like to see much more about it.
Creed (2015)
A good return that does not forget the roots
After 10 years without movies from the Rocky franchise, she returned refreshed. A great Michael B. Jordan but also a Great Stallone. Personally, I really liked it, but the franchise is Rocky, so without it there is no movie. The entire training and promotion sequence is very well carried out, Rocky's lymphoma and all the consequences of his treatment are very well portrayed. Every minute in the ring is extremely enjoyable and in my opinion it is a great movie. Recommended for all fans of the saga.
It may not be at the level of the first films in the saga but it is an interesting refresh that adds a lot to the lore. Both this movie and its sequel are very good in that, although the next ones that will come seem unnecessary to me...I repeat the saga is ROCKY BALBOA.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
How to make a triumphant return of a saga and not die trying
As a fan of the saga I always wondered why it took so long for this movie to appear.
Without Mel Gibson, who knows if he could live up to any of the previous 3.
Nothing else suggested how incredible this event was going to be.
More than 2 hours of justified violence in a maelstrom of action that never stops until the end.
Let's not fool ourselves, the movie goes where it goes and is not ashamed to show it.
Tom Hardy lives up to the character of Max, his presence intimidates and makes you believe that he is the same as always.
Charlize Theron as Furiosa sublime, stealing the spotlight in much of the plot. Furthermore, with the prequel that has just been released, her character is even more favored by giving us a context that we did not have.
Joe is immortalized as a great antagonist and Nicholas Hoult's character who also has great moments during the film.
It is very difficult for a sequel to be as up to par as "Fury Road", a great example of how to make an empowered female character and make you believe it, a great example that this kind of cinema can be made in this era, a great example of that George Miller should be on par with his more famous contemporaries Spiellberg, Scorsese and company.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to see this wonder in theaters at this time.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
It is appreciated that you try to shine with your own light
A movie perhaps unnecessary, or perhaps not. George Miller's vision continues to expand and, unfortunately, at 80 years old it is very difficult for us to continue seeing more material of this quality.
He had a complicated mission and that is to live up to "Fury Road" which was a great critical success (not so much at the box office) and in awards.
Furiosa's story is very interesting, she never wants to be a "Fury Road" 2 but tries to shine on her own by doing it partly, not all the time.
I was personally surprised by the division into acts and that the young Furiosa was there almost half of the movie.
I really like the character of Dementus and I think he is a great addition, even rivaling Immortan Joe.
Praetorian Jack is an interesting character with a painful death even though he is not shown explicitly.
Anya Taylor-Joy is very good but she is not Charlize Theron and that is quite noticeable. If I like her work as an actress and everything she gives, it seems like a very good character development.
Great nods to other films in the saga and with a pace that is very fast at times and slower at others.
My biggest problem was with the special effects that are noticeable in this movie but hey, in particular a quite enjoyable experience in the cinema and I hope we can enjoy more of this universe that has many fans like me.
The Exorcist (1973)
Work of art like few others of its kind...or none at all.
A visual marvel, an immersive experience that addresses themes from religion, the supernatural, depression and other topics. Full of symbolism, maximum tension and a terror that over the years has not been able to be replicated exactly, not even in the franchise itself. Very solid performances with excellent direction and script. Necessary experience for any film fan.
Incredible characters like Father Karras, Merrin and Det Kinderman.
It is a very faithful adaptation of Blattys' book but with freedoms at a narrative and visual level that make the experience even more immersive.
This movie and its universe are so incredible that even today it has not been able to be surpassed within the franchise (with the permission of Exorcist III, which I really like) and perhaps not within horror either.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
When things are done well, results inevitably come.
This is a great example of how to enhance a well-known franchise and take it to unsuspected limits.
The history and great origin of the first ape and legend as Caesar was for this universe.
A beginning that may seem minimalist but as the plot progresses it reaches us directly to the heart because of everything that Cesar has to experience.
From the death of his mother to protect him, how James Franco's character rescues him and how he is raised with love until the inevitable comes. And with this the entire cascade of events that lead to the spread of the virus that eliminates 90% of the world's population and gives us the ideal context for the development of this world.
A separate paragraph is the visual by Andy Serkis, what a great motion capture and how well it is done that it moves us.
With what came later it is clear that when you want to do things well, they are done.
More franchises should or should copy the example of how a well-written script can lead us to these works of art.
It may be better? Without a doubt, but as a prologue to the following films it is not bad to start with such solidity.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
A new movie in the franchise that never disappoints
When you read or hear that a new "Planet of the Apes" movie is coming out, you wonder if there are more stories to tell than those already told previously.
Although this franchise may sound repetitive (except for Tim Burton's version from 2001) it always surprises for the better.
The previous trilogy focused on Caesar was already really surprising and this new version starts quite well.
We know that the visuals will be incredible, much more so when you see that the budget is half that of any Blockbuster.
A not so original story, it is true, but marked by tragedy, the hero's journey and the search for consummated revenge.
The character of Noah and his growth from being an innocent ape to everything he ends up being.
The character of Nova, perhaps the most surprising thing about the script and development, seeing how she deceives, how she murders and how she doesn't mind harming Noah's family in order to achieve her goal and prevent Proximus Cesar from getting everything he wants from him. Silo you are trying to enter.
In the end it leaves us with a feeling of hope that there may finally be an understanding between humans and apes although seen and considering the final wink the only thing that is known for sure is that the conflict will continue...
The Terminator (1984)
A work of art that marked a genre, actor and director
I must have seen this movie a thousand times.
It is a before and after in the history of science fiction.
It is a B movie that James Cameron managed to put in a place that few others have.
It's all, plot, incredible effects for the time, if we take out Arnold's performance we can say that it is incredibly acted (even the Austrian colossus is crazy like Terminator).
It is Sarah Connor's path to becoming from an ordinary woman to the most legendary warrior in the history of cinema alongside Ellen Ripley.
It is a film whose plot ages very well, it feels current, it shows all the fears we can have regarding AI and robotics.
It is, along with its second part, one of the best sagas without a doubt.
It's a shame what happened next, I want to believe that this movie was continued, but the 2019 game is the best story ever told in Science Fiction.
Afterwards we can discuss if it is plagiarism if it is not, blah blah, it is the faithful example of everything in the past that was better...
A Quiet Place (2018)
Cosmic terror on a farm with a pregnant woman
I've been wanting to see this movie for a while.
Although I had already taken some spoilers, I wanted to live the experience as fully as possible.
It is a simple story, it gets to the point and unfolds in 1 hour 28 minutes, but that does not mean it is fast or rushed.
The conflicts mark us well, the mystery surrounds the story, the characters develop a little and when we want to remember we are in the final act.
Personally, I really like the resolution, of course we are not going to discuss how it is possible that in that universe with this possible alien invasion someone would think of having a pregnancy...
Beyond that, you can see that it is a low-budget film beyond the well-known actors but that uses the effects and locations very well.
It is also a very good starting point for a universe and mythology in relation to history.
Highly recommended for lovers of the genre.
El caso Asunta (2024)
Slow and predictable series
This series is based on a very controversial and media case from a decade ago.
The death of a 12-year-old Chinese girl allegedly at the hands of her adoptive parents.
The plot starts well, it is a mystery, we begin to see the clues and we are introduced to the characters little by little, although with little depth. There is not much emphasis on the parents' story and we go straight to the crime itself, which is not bad, but in particular it would have been useful for me to know more about the mother's context (it is not mentioned that she was sick with lupus with the connotations in his behavior that it could have had).
It happens to me that as the plot progresses the narrative loses strength to the point that the last two chapters are the most boring and dense. I'm still trying to understand what exactly they wanted to do in the 5th in particular.
All this results in a quick resolution without any mystery, in the end only the facts are told as we know them.
Then everyone draws their own conclusions, a few credits at the end and that's it...
It is recommended to watch later videos of the case itself and its repercussions to fill in the gaps in the story.
Invincible: Atom Eve (2023)
May Amazon show more love to Invincible!!
Very much in line with the first season of Invincible and in the absence of news about the second season, Amazon launched this One Shot focused on the origins of Atom Eve which is really very good.
A raw story, a very interesting character and how she learns about her tragic past little by little.
It follows the tone of the original series and is super violent and with lines worthy of "The Boys" and although it does not completely explode, it becomes a very enjoyable visual experience.
I am not a reader of the comic but beyond the lack of interest that Amazon shows in the series, it is undeniable that the public responds and that each of us is interested in knowing more about this universe.
Hopefully these Spin offs continue to exist while we watch the progress of the mother series and enjoy more and more of this animation for adults that has marked a stage.
Invincible (2021)
If you like the genre, it is impossible not to enjoy this wonder.
A brutal marvel of series. In a time where the superhero genre is exhausted by very bad scripts and the repetition of a formula that was initially successful but no longer, Amazon surprises with series of the caliber of The Boys and Invincible.
A chapter 1 with average animation and a story that you don't think will lead anywhere but whose post-credits scene leaves you inside for the rest of the series.
Seeing the evolution of Mark's character in the shadow of his father Omniman is sublime. A first season with many high points and a tremendous ending.
It is striking how little love they have put into the series, the low budget in contrast to other productions and yet we have a genuine and incredible product.
A second season with a lot of focus on Debbie and Mark but without forgetting other relevant characters in the plot. Its ending leaves us all speechless waiting for the resolution of the conflict with the Viltrumites and waiting for what would happen with Omniman and his redemption arc with the help of Allen the Alien.
Super recommended despite everything that happened, I'm looking forward to the new season.
Road House (1989)
Patrick Swayze I love you
Maybe a guilty pleasure for me but during my childhood and to this day I really enjoy this movie.
A Patrick Swayze in a state of grace with role after role, which one is more iconic (remember that this movie is between Dirty Dancing and Ghost for example).
It has everything an 80's action movie had to have: violence, rock and roll, drama, romance and risque scenes.
It does not shine because of its script but rather the meme lies in the fact that everyone who approached the main character had a bad fate assured.
I really highlight the soundtrack with songs by Bob Seger, which is a personal weakness but with an incredible Jeff Healey and that every lover of a good electric guitar cannot ignore.
It hurts the remake and that damn Hollywood habit of wanting to bring old things to the present with the usual result: it's not the same.
Recommended for all lovers of this type of cinema.
Ninja Kamui (2024)
Two different series with a turning point
I think there are many of us who will see this series as two different ones depending on where we take it.
It is a very good ninja series with an interesting plot and very well-animated fights until it enters its second part with robot armor, a non-existent plot, boring and with worse animation.
The decision to go in that direction when the series (without being more than one of revenge and search) was going well is extremely strange.
Flat main character, the rest of the secondary characters more three-dimensional than him. Controversial plot decisions. Death of the most interesting character 4-5 chapters before the end and a change in the plot for the worse unfortunately.
I had very high expectations for this series and unfortunately ended up disappointed. I don't know if there will be a second season or any other related material but it seems to me that it is a universe that already told what it had to tell and adding more things would only worsen my opinion of it.
Hopefully in future projects that have so much potential it can be fully exploited for a better experience.
Star Wars: Tales of the Empire (2024)
It's good, but it could have been better
Following the line of Tales of the Jedi this time we have the dark side version of the story.
3 chapters for 2 characters that, although not as impressive as their predecessor, are still interesting.
On the one hand Morgan Elsbeth who we saw in Mandalorian and in Ashoka where we are given a glimpse into her personal past during the prequel trilogy and the death of the witches of Dathomir where she takes her path towards hatred and destruction. After her first contact with the Galactic Empire with Admiral (at that time) Thrawn who took her into his ranks seeing her potential. And finally, after the imperial fall, contact with the new Republic and the subsequent massacre. It is a plot line that, although not the most interesting in the canon, gives us a glimpse of this character who will no longer appear seen anymore and considering his end in Ashoka.
On the other hand, the story of Barriss Offee after the events of Clone Wars and her first contact with the Inquisitors. Watching from prison the execution of Order 66 and his subsequent training under the command of Darth Vader. It's nice to see how this character can partially redeem himself after the crimes he committed and his ending leaves us wondering if he really dies or not. I suppose it will give way to new stories in relation to her.
Animation and Star Wars are really closely linked and I only hope that this trend continues for future projects.
Baby Reindeer (2024)
An uncomfortable series that becomes the surprise of the year
Most likely one of the series of the year.
It's strange how Netflix promotes some series that fail miserably and on the other hand a minor production can be so successful simply by word of mouth.
What begins as something similar to a comedy with dramatic overtones of a failed comedian and his stalker becomes a super complex plot where horrendous situations such as abuse, violence, acceptance, sexuality and how this are touched upon so, so well. Has an impact on people's lives. Repercussions that are so careful and so well portrayed that they must be highlighted.
The character of Donny (played by the writer of the series on whom the story is also based) at times makes you feel sorry, at times angry, you can't understand why he does what he does even though it is so clear that Martha is dangerous. . However, chapter 4 arrives, and there the series takes a turn and a turn too quickly.
Suddenly we are immersed in a story of abuse, fear, shame, of a person who the only thing he does well is hate himself, who does not allow himself to be happy. And in all of this, the figure of Martha emerges and means so much to Donny that one can empathize in a moment.
The ending is heartbreaking, while he is at the bar and the bartender offers him a free drink and he listens to Martha's recording and the origin of the concept of "Baby Reindeer" we all realize that these patterns repeat themselves, that these stories always They need the right optics.
I really like that Donny's character never victimizes himself, he is the architect of his own downfall. The monologue in the final of the contest gives it a crudeness that is even uncomfortable, the entire series is uncomfortable. And it's good that it is, it's good that it makes these things visible and we as a public are grateful to be able to "enjoy" a series like this.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi (2022)
A great way to expand the canon
If there is something that has worked well in Star Wars, it is the animation.
For years the canon has been increased with all the material that Filoni and company provided us.
When the initiative for short stories about isolated characters from the Star Wars universe arises, the question arises as to who it would be and the truth is that I couldn't agree more with what was chosen in the case of the Jedi (and also with Tales of the Empire).
3 stories about Ashoka that, although they may vary a little with the canon of the books, are pure gold.
However, Dooku's three stories with his subsequent fall to the dark side with Sidious are the most interesting.
We see how little by little a faithful Jedi who always flirted with the dark side is transformed into a Sith Lord, all of this enhanced after the death of Qui Gon in the Phantom Menace.
In my opinion it is a super interesting path to follow and I eagerly await more stories.
The Fall Guy (2024)
A good movie to turn off your brain and have a good time
A movie as we would say around here "pochoclera", action comedy (with a lot of action) and that at times is a romantic comedy.
It has many points in its favor, Ryan Gosling is in a state of grace lately although I keep thinking that what we see today is an evolution of the movie "Nice Guys" with Russell Crowe. I think in any case that today Ryan has been typecast in these roles, as happens in Barbie and that although he is useful today, perhaps in the future not so much.
Emily Blunt in a totally secondary role and with a romance with Gosling's character that borders on the cloying and not very credible at times.
The point is that this movie is an action nonsense that lasts more than 2 hours and that is appreciated as long as we close our minds to any other analysis.
The action scenes and how it is filmed are the best of this film, at times it rivals the best of John Wick in that sense.
The humor works no matter how crude and physical comedy it is.
It's basically an action movie from the 90's, it reminds us a lot of Arnold's "Last Action Hero" and that's appreciated.
In short, a good movie for a Saturday afternoon, it is not strictly necessary to go to the cinema to see it but it is very entertaining.
Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Could you fall lower? Yes, you could fall lower
After the first part in December I thought we couldn't go any lower, but I was wrong. I was hoping that everything boring and meaningless in the plot of the previous film would find an explanation in this second part, but once again, I was wrong.
At what point Snyder became a parody of himself we do not know, we can only say that these last two are surely his worst works considering the budget and quality of what was given to us.
Rebel Moon 2 has a more than boring first hour, that's okay, let's try slow motion for things "as important" as a harvest.
Not even visually it is saved, not to mention the motivations of the characters and things like the script, absurd to limits that are difficult to suspect.
The plot does not move and is also responsible for eliminating perhaps the most important character quickly.
You don't believe the romance of Boutella's character, you don't believe General Titus' song, you can't believe how a village of farmers accepts strangers overnight and what's worse... how they become ferocious warriors capable of defeating an imperial army that leaves the Stormtroopers as elite warriors.
It's hard to imagine that at the end of the movie Titus says "the princess is not dead", what? It is incredible that we still have to wait for several more movies and that Netflix agrees to continue with this.
Perhaps the only redeemable thing is the final battle, but for that they gave us an hour and a half of boredom and meaninglessness.
A total disappointment.
