Doctor Who: The Devil's Chord (2024)
When Music saves the World
While i really disliked the first Episode "Space Babies" of our new Doctor, this one gave me a little hope back for this new Who-era.
Not knowing what to make of this new villain in the first minute, i grew quite fond of them, being an heir to Neil-Patrick Harris Character of the Toy Maker.
I always liked it whenever the doctor didnt feel too all-knowing and powerful, and having to face dangers he can´t handle to easy. I even think this villain could have deserved a two-part episode to give the story a little more depth and feeling that there's something on stake. The biggest complaint on this Episode is the ending, as it feels kinda rushed and the solution to the whole problem too "easy". But nevertheless i'm curious to see what this whole new plot of overpowered villains will bring us next.
Also to mention that to my knowing, there hasnt been a musical-themed epsiode of Doctor Who until now (?) which i think, every good Series needs sooner or later.
Fallout (2024)
Didnt expect much - got more than i could´ve hoped for.
Knowing the history of Videogame adaptations, i really expected the worst from this. Adding that i could be quite the harsh critic, loving the games as i do.
But honestly, this exceeded my expectations. From funny, gory to exciting and epic, this had it all. You feel like the perfect mixture of Fallout-experts and newcomers came to sit at the table and make a good adaptation that everyone can enjoy. Even the game got a good reaclaimed boost from this, which confirms the series succes.
Every character got its up and downs, feeling quite three-dimensional. There is no real "hero" ( even though the Lucy-character embarks on the traditionel heroes journey), knowing that the dark, crazy and twisted world of the Fallout Apocalpye doesnt allow to just be "the nice guy".
Nevertheless, i have to say that Walton Goggins and his depiction of the Ghoul carried the show for me at many points. I couldnt get enough of his character and loved every scene he was in. I cant wait to see the next season.
Doctor Who: Space Babies (2024)
Spacebabies - Exactly what you think it will be
I really wanted to like the entry of the new Doctor. If theres definitely a positive thing to say, its the music. Murray Gold nailed it again. The new Theme is up there with "I am the Doctor", putting the adventurous character of the Doctor into a perfect piece of music.
BUT.....speaking "Space Babies"? This is a strong competition to some of the worst movies from the 90s and early 2000ths. You should never, ever let babies speak. Not mentioning the uncanny valley effect when looking at the voiceacted and animated babymouths.
It got better towards the end, even though its "We have to save everybody, no matter what" - message doesnt quite fit, but its understandable.
Really hope the next Episode will convince me more.
