Significant Other (2022)
I didn't expect to like this..
But I really really really did, and so did my husband. It was just a 'let's watch a new scary movie' thing, but the cast, production and story were surprisingly excellent. I knew Jake Lacy from The White Lotus and he was very good, as expected. So was the rest of the cast. Kudos to director, writers, producers and cast for a job well done. The leading lady was new to me, and her performance was superb. Mention should be made of whoever has invented the word "chittering" which is used in many science fiction movies. It is the scariest word EVER! Great job everyone - you understand what entertainment is. Thanks to all of you.
Gräns (2018)
THIS is a Movie!
Like a fairy tale - I would compare this to The Shape of Water. I never knew what to expect and was transfixed by the total surprise of all of it. The cinematography - the scenes of the woodlands and the water, closeups of the moss and the insects - superb. The actors wore a lot of makeup and yet were able to convey so much emotion with their faces. I just reveled in this movie. It's not for everyone. My husband was made nervous by it and kept saying, "This is a horror movie!" But it wasn't. I stumbled upon it on Hulu and am so happy that I did.
My Bakery in Brooklyn (2016)
As Light As a Cream Puff...
And about as substantial, but inoffensive. Lots of plot holes, but so what? Could have used more Linda Lavin, who is always good. The cast was fine and pretty to look at. Production was good, too. If you are looking for something frothy and light, you won't go wrong with this Bakery in Brooklyn.
The Twilight Zone: Blurryman (2019)
Excellent!
Finally, the Twilight Zone I've been waiting for. Delicious irony, some sadness, and the usual good acting and production. Great writing. Thanks to all for this episode. I am looking forward to the next season.
The Perfection (2018)
Revenge Fantasy
Quite a good thriller with decent twists and excellent production. Those who give this film a political motivation are way off the mark, in my opinion. Allison Williams proves herself again as a perfect straight woman and a pleasure to watch.
Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear's 'All in the Family' and 'The Jeffersons' (2019)
Absolutely Fabulous
I was astounded when I realized they were using an original script. It was amazing. Funny funny funny. My husband and I were so surprised at how very much we enjoyed it - sadly, it had not aged a bi40 years later. The performances were very good with Wanda Sykes and Marisa Tomei standing out. Great job, everyone. Thanks so much.
Wanda Sykes: Not Normal (2019)
Wanda's Best Yet
This was laugh-out-loud funny for us tonight. I have always enjoyed Sykes as an actress but I do not recall ever seeing her do strictly stand-up. She was fabulous, with insights and takes on menopause and racism that had us laughing steadily. I am now looking forward to more specials from her. I just saw her last night in The Jeffersons Live special and she was excellent as "Weezie" Jefferson, as well. She is a
superbly talented woman.
The Twilight Zone: Six Degrees of Freedom (2019)
The Best Episode So Far
I have to disagree with what seems to be the consensus that this is not a good episode. I have been disappointed so far with most of the episodes, but this one captured the best of the original Twilight Zone, with the bonus of good production values. The musical choices were also unexpected but very pleasurable. Thanks, Jordan!
Days After Your Departure (2019)
Beautifully Done
A stunning poem/essay about changes that take place with the loss of ones mother. Beautifully directed and shot in NYC annd Haiti. I happened to stumble across this on HBO - a happy accident.
