Magnum Force (1973)
Decent, But A Step Down From Dirty Harry
So, I've got around to seeing this sequel to the classic Dirty Harry Film. This one is a step down sadly & the runtime & pacing are the main culprits here.
Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan pursues a conspiracy of vigilante cops, who are not above going beyond the law to kill San Francisco's undesirables.
I found the film to be good. It's got some great action, good fights & humourous dialogue along with some great acting seen here with Clint Eastwood in the leading role once again as Harry Callahan.
The story here is interesting & unique & the action laced with it work well, but my issue with the film is the pacing & runtime, the film could've been much shorter & faster paced. It wasn't over 2 hours but close at 1 hour & 56 minutes (116 minutes).
The film has a satisfying ending which like Dirty Harry, didn't disappoint at all. This one was a bit more involved as there was 3 killers to chase down as a pose to the one in the first flick. There's some eye candy in here too along with some funny scenes.
Overall, it's a decent film, but a step down from Dirty Harry as this film dragged & was too long for such a simple & straight forward story line.

Rise of the Footsoldier: Part II (2015)
Good Enough!
So, I went to watch this one after the first, which I thought was pretty decent & a good watch! This film is good, but feels some what pointless a little, it's more of an aftermath like sequel, but it's still entertaining!
The film shows the life of underworld icon Carlton Leach after the triple deaths prior in the first film!
I found the film to be decent & a good watch! It does feel tired & sort of pointless as it lacks an exciting story this time around! It's more of an aftermath sequel, which isn't bad, but, unless there's a story that's worth telling, it feels like a cash grab more than anything else!
1 hour & 42 minutes (102 minutes), it's decently lengthen & has some good pacing! The profanity is ace as with the violence & humour you see in this flick! There's some brutality & gore which is also great, so while the film's story maybe wishy washy, it doesn't disappoint entirely! The characters do a good job as do the actors who portray them & there's some eye candy in here too!
Overall, it's a good enough sequel, but feels a bit tired & pointless & lacks that punch like the first film had! Give it a watch as it's not all bad, but don't expect too much with this one!

The Watchers (2024)
The What The?
So, having seen some previews of this, & of course, seeing the surname of the girl making this film, I knew it was going to be "one of those" types of horrors.
A young artist gets stranded in an extensive, immaculate forest in western Ireland, where, after finding shelter, she becomes trapped alongside 3 strangers, stalked by mysterious creatures each night.
I found the film to be ok. It's not something I'd watch again, never mind recommend to anyone. It's a slow burner type of horror which, works better as a Novel (this film is based off of that said Novel) & is pretty much a chore to watch.
The story is different & I guess you can say, unique, but, it just doesn't cut it & becomes pretty muddled & all over the place by the time the 3rd act rolls around. The characters play the roles good enough, the setting is pleasant enough & the horror is alright despite lacking.
The film is "out there", but too "out there" for its own good. You barley "see" anything worth while or anything remotely horror like & when you do, it's not exactly the pay off of the year if you know what I mean.
There's not much of a body count to speak of, never mind any gore or blood which is seriously scarce here. The visuals of "The Watchers" were not bad, but not exactly scary or even that sinister. The runtime is long at 1 hour & 35 minutes & has poor pacing, especially near the end where it drags on & on & on.
The ending is just out there & the explanation isn't worth while or interesting. The fact that only women survived at the end is typical, but that was only adding insult to injury as the film was pretty poor to be honest. Aside from a bit of eye candy & the little horror we got, but it wasn't even close to a quarter to save this one.
Overall, it's clear the writer, director & producer, takes after her father. The film is very much what he would direct. But, that's not exactly a good thing as his films are pretty much hit & misses with me. Don't expect much with this one if you do go & see it. It's not much cop & you'll be bored as I was.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
Great Action Film!
So, having still not watched the first 2 Bad Boys Films, but having seen the 3rd, I sort of knew what to expect! Either way, I was in for a fun time as I enjoyed this one, better than 3 to be honest!
When their former captain is implicated in corruption, 2 Miami police officers have to work to clear his name!
I found the film to be pretty great! The clearing name theme was ace & something which I find exciting especially the whodunit theme! The action is ace & kicks into high gear, as with the humour too which works well alongside the said action! There's some eye candy here too!
The films runtime is 1 hour & 49 minutes (109 minutes) which is good & the pacing isn't too bad either! The story is good & exciting & I found this film to be way more memorable than 3, which was kind of forgettable! The characters do a great job here (especially the leads) & the film has a pretty good ending!
Overall, it's an ace entry in the franchise! Give a watch & don't take it so seriously or literally! You'll enjoy it, trust me!

Ghost Stories (2017)
Decent Enough
So, I remember I was due to see this in Cinemas back in 2018, but it stopped showing by the time I had the chance to see after having to cancel the first time around. Anyway, I remembered the film & went to by it on DVD last year, but of course it cut out on me & I yet again, got another copy & finally got to watch the whole film.
After receiving a file with details of 3 unexplained cases of apparitions, skeptical professor Phillip Goodman embarks on a terrifying trip.
I found the film to be quite good, but also a let down in a way too. The first hour or so of the film was pretty good, but then by the last half hour it went off on one & fizzled out into an ending which left me with more questions than answers.
The film is well paced with a runtime consisting of 1 hour & 29 minutes (89 minutes), so, it's not too long, nor does it feel long, so there's that. The characters are pretty good & give great performances as well as unsettling ones.
The film is pretty dark & gritty too, the sense of dread & dreariness adds to the theme & story of the film, which mostly was unique & well done until the end. There's some good scares & creepy visuals to be had, so you won't be disappointed, even though the stories themselves aren't that original as such.
The ending is a let down, & the more & more you think about it, it was pretty naff in a lot of ways & out of the blue. Yeah, I didn't see it coming & it was revelation like, but it left me thinking why? When? How?
It just seemed out of the blue & random as if it was added on later on in production. It also made the previous hour of the film seem like a build up to nothing & felt like nothing.
Which, I suppose is the reason why the 3 ghost stories were so half-arsed & flat, they & the 3 actors in them turn out to be plot devices as they were only figments of the main leads imagination & show up in his hospital room in vegetative state. They only appeared to make the film & its ending/twist work.
Overall, it's decent enough & you'll most likely enjoy it. But, the ending is what let this film down for me. Give it a watch & see...

Jacob's Hammer (2012)
What On Earth!?
So, I cam across this via a Google Search & thought it might look interesting or good. How wrong was I...
The film sees a troubled young mum, Sadie, who keeps seeing sinister visions & apparitions about her home with her only son who she dotes on. But as the evil starts to come to a boil, does Sadie eventually give in & embrace the evil that stems from her son.
I found the film to be weak & dull. It lacked context & character development so when you saw the film progress from start to finish, from scene to scene, I found myself constantly just sitting there scratching my head & having little to fa with what was going on. Nothing was explained & just happened & I as the viewer, was expected to just understand it all.
The film has little horror in it & looks & feels like a cheaply (& badly) made Uni film Project. The effects were also cheap & tacky as well as the acting which was pitiful & fake. While the gore was good & the eye candy we got, the story was just bad & a clear copy of The Omen.
The runtime is 1 hour & 15 minutes, which was good, but the pacing made the film feel longer. The feel of the film wasn't convincing & lacked dramatic impact. It felt weak, disconnected & just "out there" to the point where you questioning whether it was a horror film or not.
Overall, it's a cheap & nasty horror you shojldn't waste your time on. Basically, it's a discount version of The Omen, which I suggest you should watch instead of this poor imitation.
2/10.
Maniac Cop (1988)
Good 80's Slasher!
So, I came across this randomly & its sequels & decided to give this franchise that I'd never seen before a watch!
Innocent people are being brutally murdered on the streets of New York City by a uniformed police officer! As the death toll rises & City Hall attempts a cover-up, Frank McCrae heads the investigation! A young cop, Jack Forrest, finds himself under arrest as the chief suspect, having been the victim of a set-up by the real killer & a mysterious woman phone-caller. Forrest, his girlfriend Theresa, & McCrae set out to solve the puzzle before the Maniac Cop can strike again!
I found the film to be pretty good! It's a dark & sinister slasher film that does what says on the box! It's gory, graphic & scary in a lot of places! The characters are pretty good & the story & concept are pretty good too!
The films runtime is 1 hour & 27 minutes long & has pretty good pacing! There's some eye candy in amongst the gore & carnage as well as some funny moments in the film! The actors do a great job here especially the one playing the villain! The soundtrack was good too!
Overall, it's a good 80's slasher film that you should check out!
7/10.
Leprechaun 5: In the Hood (2000)
Dumb Fun
So, we get a 5th entry in the Comedy Horror franchise, Leprechaun. This time, in tha 'hood.
When 3 rappers want to get even with a pimp, they accidentally unleash a leprechaun who goes on a killing rampage in tha 'hood.
I found the film like the previous entries to be dumb, but not bad. You get the comedy aspects as well as the horror we get, even though the horror in itself is undermined by the comedy elements.
The story here is different & back down to earth after the 4th film which was in space. But this film just got a bit too comedy like for its own good. It was funny in a lot of areas, but just eye rolling in others.
The characters are as good as can be, but that's it. The horror elements were good & the gore (despite the lack of it) was good too & the ending being cheesy as heck, was not bad either & sort of funny.
Overall, it's dumb fun at the end of the day. It's a film you can't take seriously, & let's be honest, should take seriously as by this point, they're milking the franchise for what its worth. Give it a watch, but don't expect too much from this 5th entry, its below average at best.
4/10.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023)
Not Bad
Wasn't expecting much from this when I first saw it advertised on Social, but bought it anyway to watch to see if it was any good. I enjoyed the 2019 remake & was wondering if this would be any good.
In 1969 a young Jud Crandall & his childhood friends band together to confront an ancient evil that has gripped their hometown of Ludlow.
I found the film to be not bad. A bit slow to start with, but picks up about half through & gets good with the gore. The story might not be that interesting enough, but you get the gist of the story & what it is trying to convey.
The film has a runtime of 1 hour & 21 minutes. It's a short, to the point film that has not bad pacing as it did sort of wane a little in places. But, it was a good watch with some good set pieces, horror & graphic deaths.
Overall, it's a not bad prequel, I wouldn't say it's as good as the 2019 film which I felt had a straight forward way of telling the story than this prequel did. Give it a watch, you might enjoy it.
6/10.
Nine Dead (2009)
Could've Been Better.... Much Better!
So, I got recommended this last year via a Saw Fan Page & the user was saying it was like a discount Saw Film! Curious, I got it for my Christmas & watched it today! I wasn't expecting the film to be the way it was, nor did I expect the ending...!
The film sees a group of 9 victims all brought together by some masked mad man who gives them 10 minutes to work out why they're there before executing one of them! What starts out as victim bickering turns into revelations galore as the victims start to reveal stories about themselves & realise they have more in common than they first thought!
I found the film to be interesting at first! It was quite engaging & entertaining when you saw the victims bickering with one another & then the secrets about them coming out little by little!
The banter was interesting & even funny a some points, but my disappointment was with the minimal amount of gore & on screen deaths! Given this was supposed to be like a Saw film, I found this pretty tame! In fact, there was barely any horror in this & played out more like a Thriller!
The films runtime is 1 hour & 20 minutes long & has decent pacing to go with it! That was a plus too & the story was interesting as the characters all started to discover they had more in common & weren't selected at random! That was a good twist!
I will say the production felt & looked cheap! You could tell that from just looking at the props & how it was filmed in mostly the 1 location! Saw (2004) did it better! My biggest hate is with the films ending! Yeah, what turns into a police chase just cuts to black & then the credits!! What!?
The ending was a complete cop out & made the rest of the film a massive countdown to absolute zilch! Very disappointed indeed! It was as if they couldn't think of a way to end it, ran out of dough & were like "Yeah, that will do!" & bam! I would've gave this film a 6 if it had an ending to justify & make the wait worth it! It was incomplete, cheap & unfinished! Worst ending to a film ever!
Overall, it's a film that had potential! Much of it, but the execution was poor! The lacking of blood & gore, or even any creative deaths other than shooting was also another downer to this film, they could've at the very least showed the shooting deaths but no! But the slap in the face ending was the cherry on the cake & the reason why my rating is as low as it is! It started off well & then lost its way completely! I didn't expect much from this flick to be fair & expected it to be discount version of Saw, but didn't expect it to be as bad as it was, believe me!
2/10.
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
Not A Bad Sequel.
Heard about this one alongside the original & wondered if it would be any good.
A horrible massacre strikes up after an outcast teenage girl is taunted by a group of high school jocks, all of them unaware of her cutthroat telekinetic powers.
I found the film to be not bad. It's not amazing or as good as the 1977 original or even the 2013 remake, but, it's pretty decent overall. The story is sort of unique, but, feels like a re-tread of the first film. The characters are not bad here & the references to the original in flashback form were good as well as the word a mouth references.
I did find the film took some time to get going & got confused with who was who & the story's narrative got a bit muddled & muddied. I also find it a bit unusual that this film came out 23 years after the original. The films runtime is 1 hour & 35 minutes & does feel overly long for what it is. The ending was pretty good & where the film picked up after it plodded along for a good chunk of the time.
There's some gore effects to be had here as well as some eye candy. The film does feel remake like despite it being a sequel. I felt the runtime & pacing could've used some work as the film felt bland in areas & or lacking in action or something to keep the audience invested or interested.
Overall, it's a sequel that isn't bad, but not the greatest. Give it a watch, but don't expect anything new or great as such.
6/10.
The Loch Ness Horror (2023)
The Bland Horror
You can tell straight away that a film like this one is going to suck somewhat. Still, I went to watch this to see if I'd enjoy it & that it "might" & I use that word strongly, might enjoy it...
A group are sent to discover what happened to a recent lost ship. Only to discover the horror that awaits them lurking below.
I found the film to be pretty bland. The story is bland, the characters are bland & the effects are pretty naff. The story wasn't interesting & lacked that meatiness to keep you engaged. You just didn't care at all what happened or how it happened. The story was just flat & uninspiring.
The effects were cheap looking & obviously fake. The gore effects weren't bad, but still just as bad as the former. The narration of the plot made no sense at all & felt rushed & hammy.
Even if the effects were great, the story & plot, not to mention the characters were boring. There was a bit of eye candy to be had, but nothing much else aside from the bit of gore we got.
The films runtime is 1 hour & 13 minutes, but the pacing is sluggish making it feel longer. The lacking in a body count, never mind creative deaths was also the insult to injury.
Overall, it's a bland, cheap Horror flick. Don't expect much from this. Give it a watch if you're looking for something to kill time with. This is short, so it'll be ironically enough perfect.
2/10.
Dirty Harry (1971)
Solid First Entry!
Having heard of these through my Dad (who had all of them on VHS back in the day), I got the set on DVD for Christmas last year & finally got around to watching this film!
When a man calling himself "The Scorpio Killer" menaces San Francisco, tough-as-nails Police Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan is assigned to track down the crazed psychopath!
I found the film to be pretty good! It's a raw, to the point flick that wastes no time in getting into the action! The action itself is pretty good & there's also some humour, albeit dark in a couple of places which is ace!
The actors do a great job here! Clint Eastwood being the one that stands out the most here in his most famous signature role of his career! The villain (played by Andrew Robinson) in this is pretty good & gives a great performance as the manic mad man spreading terror everywhere he goes!
The films runtime is 1 hour & 37 minutes & has some good pacing to go along with it! The action is great, the gun fights, the explosions, the fights in general! It's all great The story is simple, but that's not bad at all & the ending is pretty good also!
Overall, it's a solid action film! Give it a watch if you haven't already! It's great!
8/10.
Twister (1996)
Decent
Having heard much about this film, but never got around to watching until now.
The film sees a group of Storm Chasers who are trying to launch a device inside of a Tornado Funnel, in order collect data to improve the warning systems for Tornados. But, it won't be an easy task especially with a rival group in tow.
I found the film to be pretty good. It's not amazing as such, given the fact that it has little of a plot to speak of. The characters are good & the actors who portray them.
The films runtime is overly long for such a simple story & feels drawn out for what it is. The films runtime is 1hr & 41mins & has sluggish pacing. The tornado effects were good & the action was great once it kicked in.
Overall, it's a decent film, but not the greatest. There's not much of a plot, never mind any suspense or excitment. But, it's decent & not a bad watch. But don't expect much. Can't wait for Twisters on the 19th July.
6/10.
Sting (2024)
Great Spider Flick!
So, upon seeing previews of this film, I thought it was the remake for Arachnophobia! But of course, it wasn't! Nonetheless, this looked interesting! Although, I wasn't expecting too much from it!
After raising an unnervingly talented spider in secret! 12-year-old Charlotte must face the facts about her pet & fight for her family's survival-when the once-charming creature rapidly transforms into a giant, flesh-eating monster!
I found the film to be pretty good! It's definitely "out there" & unusual, but it does what it does in the 1 hour & 25 minute (85 minute) runtime given! There's plenty of horror here, the spider taking center stage & the graphics being quite full on & ace! It will make your skin crawl!
The films story is good & unique enough! The film has some good gore & deaths! There's some funny moments in this flick too & the actors do well with their roles! The ending was good to & leaves the film open for a sequel!
Overall, a great flick! Not amazing & a bit out there, but it's pretty good overall!
7/10.
The Crow (1994)
Good Film!
So, having only heard about this, its sequels & the upcoming remake, I went to my local to see this a 30th Anniversary Re-Release! I must I enjoyed it! I'm not big on gothic films as such, but I liked this film & its story!
The film sees a man rise from the dead after he & his fiancee are brutally assualted & killed by a group of thugs! Now back & kicking, he vows to avenge those who ruined his life or die trying!
I found the film to be pretty good! It's a straight forward revenge story film with a gothic twist! As I said, I'm not big on the gothic sub genre as such, never mind fantasy films, but this was pretty good!
There's plenty of action to be had here in this 1 hour & 34 minute (94 minute) flick as well as some gore, gun fights, explosions & eye candy too! The actora do a good job especially Brandon Lee (RIP), who done a great job as the main lead!
The film doesn't linger on too long & the story is pretty straight forward which is great! The pacing is good & the ending is pretty satisfying also!
Overall, it's a great film! I will say it's a tad overrated for what it is, but that's not to dump on the film as it was quite good! Give it a watch, this was my first time seeing it & I liked it!
8/10.
Homefront (2013)
Solid Little Action Flick!
Saw this over 10 Years Ago in Cinemas & quite enjoyed it as I do with a lot of Jason Statham Films! This one was good, not one of his best, but a solid one if I ever seen it!
A former DEA Agent moves his family to a quiet town, where he soon tangles with a local Meths Drug Lord!
I found the film to be quite good! It's a solid action thriller that kicks into gear from the word "Go" & doesn't let up until the end! Jason Statham does a great job as always as do the other actors in this flick!
The film has a decent runtime of 1 hour & 31 minutes (91 minutes) with some decent pacing to go along with it! There's plenty of fights, explosions & ace moments in this film, even though the film itself feels a bit out there!
Overall, it's a great film! Not amazing, but solid all the way! Give it a watch! Seeing this after 10 Years, this film still holds up!
7/10.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
It's Pretty Good!
So, 9 years later we get a sort of sequel to Fury Road (which I found to be pretty good) & given I've not seen the first 3 Mad Max, Films, I still went to see Fury Road & of course this one, which I enjoyed!
The origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before her encounter & teamup with Mad Max!
I found the film to be pretty good, a bit slow to start, but once it kicks into gear, you get a full on fledged, action packed film with hot rods, car, truck, traps, contraptions & brutal deaths galore!
The story is simple enough & although a bit confusing, I got the gist of the story & its characters! There's some gore here & some great set pieces as well as some eye candy with the main lead!
The films ending drags somewhat & the pacing sort of falters towards the end! The film is 2 hours & 18 minutes long (138 minutes) & the pacing is decent until, again, the 3rd act sort of falls apart! The ending itself is not bad, but weird & the montage of clips from Fury Road was good too!
Overall, a pretty good film! Not amazing, but good overall!
7/10.
Training Day (2001)
Good Film!
So, I've only heard about this film & not seen it! But, I've recently got to watch it & thought it was good!
A rookie cop spends his first day as a Los Angeles narcotics officer with a rogue detective who isn't what he appears to be!
I found the film to be slow to start, but good as it wore on & on! It did take a while to get going & into the story, but it was good once things started to heat up! Ethan Hawke & Denzel Washington play ace roles in this serious Buddy Cop film!
There's some great action & eye candy to be had here too! The story is a bit out there, but entertaining enough to a point! The ending was satisfying & the pacing despite being a tad off wasn't bad along with a 1 hour & 51 minute runtime!
Overall, a not bad film! A bit out there & slow to start, but, a good watch nonetheless!
7/10.
Mirrors 2 (2010)
Ace Sequel!
Saw this about 10 Years Ago & remember enjoying it more than the first because of the story, pacing & gore factor! I saw it again recently & still find it an enjoyable sequel!
When Max, who is recovering from a traumatic accident, takes a job as a nighttime security guard, he begins to see visions of a young mysterious woman in the store's mirror! A Dark revelation is about to be unearthed when he finds out why the woman is haunting the Mirrors & Bodies start to pile up!
I found the film to be pretty good! It's dark & sinister which is ace as well as being to the point unlike the first which, despite being good, dragged on & on! This film was 1 hour & 22 minutes long & had good pacing, a more interesting story & better kills too, even though the first had some good kills too!
With a bit of eye candy & some full on gore with some great effects you can't go wrong with this sequel & the ending was pretty satisfying also! It's a shame we won't get a Mirrors 3, but, hey ho!
Overall, this is a dark & twisted little horror/thriller! Give it a watch & a chance, it's ace! Not to slag off the first Mirrors because, it's pretty good, but this one wins it!
9/10.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024)
Decent Enough!
Have been a fan of the Franchise for years & remember the first being pretty terrifying! The sequel, which was released 10 Years later, was pretty good too! I was skeptical about this one upon hearing about it, but was bought when I saw the Trailer!
After their Car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple is forced to spend the night in a remote Cabin! Panic ensues as they are terrorised by 3 masked strangers who strike with no mercy & seemingly no motive! Can they survive the night!?
I found the film to be pretty decent! Yeah, it does feel like a remake of sorts, but is was announced back in 2022 that it was a sort of remake/reboot of the original Franchise! I will say the very first Strangers Film is better than this for scares & suspense even though this one was just as good! Of course for gore, The Strangers Prey At Night wins it! This film did lack in gore, but it was supposed to be a nod to the original 2008 Film!
There's some good scares here with the masked strangers & some suspense too! The story isn't much, but by now, we're all here for one thing! Despite the gore lacking, there's plenty of action, a bit of eye candy & a great backdrop for the scenery & Cabin setting! The runtime is 1 hour & 24 minutes & has lightening quick pacing! So, that was also a plus!
Overall, it's a decent film! You'll like this one if you liked the first 2 films! Can't wait for Chapters' 2 & 3!
7/10.
Mirrors (2008)
Great Horror!
Saw this film years ago on DVD after getting the second film on DVD at my local supermarket! It got me curious as to what the franchise was about when I saw Mirrors 2 on DVD & hence why I got & watched the first Mirrors film!
The film sees an Ex-Cop, Ben Carmen, & his family who are the target of an Evil Force that is using mirrors as a gateway into their home & killing anyone who comes in contact with them! Driven to unravel the mystery, Ben finds himself on a race against time to stop the Evil Force & uncover the dark & sinister revelation relating to the Mirrors at the gutted Mayflower Department store!
I found the film to be pretty good! It's sort of like your typical 00's Horror, but of course, it's a remake which isn't bad, given I've never seen the original never mind heard of it until this film, but this film is good!
The characters are good & the actors who portray them & do a good job with their roles! The story is good as with the back story! There's not a huge body count to be had here sadly, but the deaths themselves are gory & brutal! So, you won't be disappointed there! There's some eye candy too!
The films runtime is not too bad, but could've been shorter! The film has a 1 hour & 42 minute runtime with not bad pacing! I did feel the film was more story over deaths which is a bit disappointing, but the story is good, even though I feel the film could've been shorter & more to the point if anything else!
Overall, it's a good film! Give it a watch! You might enjoy it! I thought it was pretty decent to be fair!
8/10.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Good Enough
So, we finally get a 4th installment of the Planet Of The Apes Reboot Franchise 7 years after the 3rd entry back in 2017. I can't say I recall the films all too well, but remember the 1st one just about.
Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he's been taught about the past & make choices that will define a future for apes & humans alike.
I found the film to be quite enjoyable, it was good & had good characters in it, even though at times you couldn't tell who was who. The story was good despite me not fully getting it until it broke in more. There was some humour in the film as well as some serious moments.
The actors do a good job with their roles, Kevin Durand as Proximus, Owen Teague as Noa, Peter Macon as Raka & Freya Allen as Nova/Mae who provided some good eye candy as well as the rest of the cast who also done good jobs with their roles.
The film has plenty of action in it despite it being a bit slow paced & dragging. The film is 2 hours & 16 minutes long (136 minutes), not bad, but could've been much, much shorter given the films story was more of a simple revenge story if anything else. The pacing could've used some work too.
The ending was good & satisfying & of course, sets up a new trilogy, hopefully we'll get a new Planet Of The Apes film soon to follow & not too long while we have the memory of this film fresh in our minds.
Overall, it's a good film if not a little long. Give it a watch if you haven't already & maybe give the first 3 films of the reboot franchise a watch too.
7/10.
Wrong Turn VI (2014)
Weak Entry
I remember I was looking forward to this one when I heard about it being made & was expecting much from it, sadly, that wasn't the case here. I watched it back in the day & didn't rate it too much & now, as of recently watching it again 10 years on, I still find it to be a weak entry.
An inheritance leads a young man & his friends to an abandoned Resort inhabited by two sketchy caretakers & a clan of mutant cannibals.
I found the film to be pretty weak in comparison to the previous 5 films. There's more story over deaths & even the deaths themselves aren't that great or up to scratch. Don't get me wrong, I do like a film with a plot, so long as it's good, not boring & doesn't dominate the film over the action.
This film sees the story take center stage here & the story itself is pretty bland & boring. Even the characters are pretty dull & uninteresting. The film does have some not bad deaths & some eye candy with the nude scenes, but it's sadly not enough to save this film & the ending was just poor.
The Hillbillies were used too sparingly here & it shows. The film has a runtime of 1 hour & 23 minutes (83 minutes), but the pacing would have you believe it's longer as little to nothing interesting or entertaining happens. I mean, I get what they were trying to do with the franchise, but they ballsed it up with this one.
Overall, this is where the franchise sort of crashes & burns. I say "sort of" because the 2021 remake that was release 7 years was even worse than this, but that's not saying much either. Even Wrong Turn's 3 & 4 are better than this & here was me considering them to be so-so, even though my opinion on them 2 films alone has changed somewhat. Give this a watch, but don't expect much.
4/10 & that's generous.
Rise of the Footsoldier (2007)
A Raw & Brutal Film!
Got around to watching this after getting it on DVD & must say I enjoy it!
The film follows the life of career criminal Carlton Leach! The film shows his rise to the position of one of the most feared Gangsters on the Streets of London spanning from the 70's to the 90's!
I found the film to be quite good! It's raw, brutal, violent, bloody, sweary & funny in a lot of places too! It's also gritty & realistic to life too! The actors do a good job with their roles & the film has a lot going on it! It can get a bit confusing & muddled, but you get the gist of what's happening!
The film has a runtime of 1 hour & 47 minutes (107 minutes) with great pacing! The film has a pretty good ending & makes you want more & of course, you now get 5 more films to watch now, so far from the few I've seen, they're good! There's also some eye candy too among the brutal bloody violence & fights!
Overall, it's a pretty good film! It's a raw & brutal presentation of London life in the Gangster Underworld! Give it a watch if you haven't already! It's good!
8/10.
