NBCUniversal Launch, the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion home for entertainment television, unveiled its inaugural Unscripted Pitch Accelerator program.
The Unscripted Pitch Accelerator comes a year after NBCUniversal launched The Unscripted Producers Program initiative. Similarly, this aims provide independent creators and producers with an opportunity to pitch their concepts for unscripted series to NBCUniversal television executives. To expand the consideration pool to find the best ideas, independent producers do not need representation or a relationship with an established production company or studio to submit their concepts. Its goal is to find the next hit unscripted franchises for the company’s entertainment television platforms, including Peacock, NBC, Bravo, E!, Oxygen True Crime and USA Network.
Creators are encouraged to submit pitches spanning various genres and formats, including shiny-floor/in-studio formats, competition formats, social experiments, dating/relationship formats, game shows, character-led docu-soaps, occu-soaps, lifestyle formats, true-crime series and premium documentary series.

NBCUniversal is developing a U.S. version of The Underdog – the Truman Show-style guessing game format that sees social media influencers compete in a popularity contest alongside one person without an online following – for NBC.
Stv Studios and NBCUniversal have struck a series development deal for the format, which will see the latter develop the version for NBC.
Created by Stv Studios label Primal Media and co-owned by GroupM, The Underdog, which is being made in the UK for E4 under the working title Alan Must Win, sees a cast of conventionally popular contestants – all with big online followings and a knack for influencing people – compete in a popularity contest. In amongst the group is an underdog that no one is expecting, an ordinary person with almost zero online followers, who is unfazed about trying to be the most popular. Hollywood’s gaze has moved from Warner Bros Discovery to NBCUniversal, which has just undergone its latest restructure under the new Comcast president, a move that saw film chief Donna Langley expand her empire into television and the departure of Susan Rovner.
What do the changes mean for NBCU’s television business under Langley, is the company destined for another shake-up on the television side, and was Rovner, who oversaw series such as NBC’s Night Court, one of the biggest new broadcast comedies in the last few years, and Peacock’s acclaimed Poker Face, a success?

NBCUniversal and the BBC are going on a journey — but aren’t telling where.
The two broadcasters, who recently teamed on the breakout unscripted show The Traitors, are co-commissioning a competition series called Destination X. The show, based on a format created by Belgian company Geronimo and distributed by Be-Entertainment, asks contestants to figure out where they are in the world, with “tweaks” to the real world designed to throw them off.
Universal Television Alternative Studio will develop the show for NBC; Destination X is targeted for BBC One in the U.K.
“Destination X is a big, unique format that pairs spectacular adventure travel with the ultimate guessing game,” said Corie Henson, executive vp unscripted programming for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “The Traitors instilled confidence that big formats are back, and Destination X is incredibly ambitious. BBC and NBCUniversal are partnering up on a new reality competition show “Destination X.”
The adventure series, whose format originated in Belgium, follows 10 contestants who embark on a road trip, but do not know their location as the Destination X bus works to mislead both the contestants and the viewers.
As their journey continues, contestants must follow clues to determine if they can trust what they see as their knowledge will be put to the test at the end of each episode. The “contestant who places their X on a map furthest away from the bus’s actual location must leave the game and loses their shot at winning a cash prize,” per the official logline. Remaining participants are tasked with finding the location of the host, who communicates with contestants from an unknown location.

The Traitors will return to scheme again on Peacock.
The breakout unscripted series has landed a second season renewal three weeks after its premiere.
A renewal was a no-brainer, but the speed at which the show got picked up is pretty crazy.
The streaming service typically waits until more data is available, but if you pay attention to social media, the show has broken through in a way many TV shows can only dream of.
Hosted by Alan Cumming, this unscripted competition series is a nail-biting psychological adventure in which treachery and deceit are the name of the game.
Twenty contestants (including reality A-listers) come together to complete a series of challenges with the objective of earning a cash prize.
The catch? Three of the contestants coined "the traitors," will devise a plan to steal the prize from the other contestants, coined "the faithful."

Exclusive: The Big D, the dating competition hosted by The Bachelorette alums JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rogers, has found a new home after its surprising cancelation at TBS.
Deadline understands that USA Network is picking up the ten-part series. We’re hearing that a deal is on the verge of closing.
It comes after the entertainment format was one of the higher profile shows to be axed at the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned cable network, weeks ahead of its premiere.
The show, which comes from Lighthearted Entertainment, the company behind Are You The One? and Dating Naked, had finished production and the network was running promos ahead of its planned July 7 premiere. But it was pulled in June with the company preferring to essentially take a tax write-off rather than air it as part of broader cost-cutting measures across the David Zaslav-run company.

Exclusive: There probably has been no other division of WarnerMedia more impacted by the Discovery merger than the TNets, which consist of TNT, TBS and TruTV. In the span of a couple of months after the transaction was completed, they got new leadership, with Discovery’s Kathleen Finch adding them to her portfolio, while the previous toppers exited: General Manager Brett Weitz, SVP Original Programming Adrienne O’Riain, and unscripted chief Corie Henson.
The new owners quickly scrapped or ended scripted series such as Chad, Snowpiercer and Kill the Orange Bear, cut a number of unscripted series such as the already completed The Big D, and let go a number of big-ticket development.
As the dust has started to settle, Finch, Chairman and Chief Content Officer, US Networks Group, Warner Bros. Discovery, recently made an outreach to talent agencies and producers, laying out her plans for what original programming on the...
