Latest Watchmen Video Journal Now Online

There are exactly 58 days until Watchmen hits theaters, assuming the March 6 release date remains the same. Earlier today a Japanese trailer for the flick came online and now we have the latest behind the scenes video journal, which takes a look at the Minutemen – the first generation of masked vigilantes. Adapted from Alan Moore’s acclaimed graphic novel, Watchmen is Directed by Zack Snyder and stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson. Domestic Street Fighter Trailer is Here

Last week an international trailer for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li hit the web and now we have the domestic one, courtesy of IGN. The flick, based on the popular video game series, stars Kristin Kreuk, Michael Clarke Duncan, Neal McDonough, Taboo, Chris Klein, Moon Bloodgood, Edmund Chen, Cheng Pei Pei, Josie Ho andRobin Shou. It was directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Doom, Cradle 2 the Grave), written by Justin Marks and hits theaters on February 27, 2009. Watch the trailer below or over here in high definition.

First Official Image From Funny People!

As part of its 2009 preview, Universal has released the first official production still from Judd Apatow’s new comedy, Funny People. The film is set to open July 31 and stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, RZA, Aubrey Plaza and Jason Schwartzman. When seasoned comedian George Simmons (Sandler) learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer (Rogen) under his wing as his opening act.

Poster For Sunshine Cleaning

The folks over at Cinematical have debuted a new poster for the upcoming indie comedy Sunshine Cleaning, which had its world premiere last January at the Sundance Film Festival. It will open in limited release March 13. Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Steve Zahn, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Clifton Collins Jr., Eric Christian Olsen and Alan Arkin star in the film about a mom, who in order to raise the tuition to send her young son to private school, starts an unusual business -- a biohazard removal/crime scene clean-up service -- with her unreliable sister.

Dead: Shazam!, Fright Night, Ender’s Game

Various projects that have been circling Hollywood for sometime now seem to be dead. It’s possible that they may start up again in different incarnations but for now they’re lifeless. First, Screenwriter John August has revealed over on his official blog that Shazam!, the big-screen adaptation of the DC comic, is no longer happening. August had been working on the film since 2007 and cites the trouble with New Line Cinema and the WGA strike for its demise. Director Peter Segal (Get Smart) and Dwayne Johnson were at one point interested in the project. You can read August’s full rundown of what happened here. The remake of the horror flick Fright Night is also no longer happening. New Fast and Furious Image

Universal has just sent over its 2009 preview which comes with a new image from Fast and Furious, the fourth installment in the street-racing franchise that is set to open in April. The flick brings back Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster who all starred together in the 2001 original. In the film Directed by Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift), fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto (Diesel) reignites his feud with agent Brian O’Conner (Walker). But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmanuever him.

International Watchmen Trailer

A Japanese trailer for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen has popped online and you can watch it below. The flick is still on track to hit theaters March 6 and stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Created by Alan Moore, Watchmen was originally published by DC comics as a 12-comic book series between 1986 and 1987, before subsequently being collected into a trade paperback. It is the only graphic novel to win the prestigious Hugo Award or to be named among Time magazine’s “100 Best English Language Novels from 1923 to the Present.”

A Bunch of Descent 2 Images Now Online

Here’s your first real look at The Descent: Part 2, the upcoming sequel to Neil Marshall’s 2006 horror flick. Marshall, who also helmed Dog Soldiers and Doomsday, is executive producing the sequel while directing duties have gone to Jon Harris. The project is Harris’ feature debut. He’s worked in the industry for over ten years as an editor on films like Snatch, Ripley's Game, Layer Cake, Stardust and the first Descent. The flick picks up right after the first, with Sarah (Shauna Macdonald) emerging alone from the Appalachian cave system where she encountered unspeakable terrors. Unable to plausibly explain to the authorities what happened - or why she's covered in her friends' blood - Sarah is forced back to the subterranean depths to help locate her five missing companions. Natalie Jackson Mendoza, Krysten Cummings, Gavan O'Herlihy, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern and Douglas Hodge also star.

The folks over at Bloody Disgusting have posted a promo trailer for George A. Romero’s latest zombie flick, which is going by the title …of the Dead. It stars Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh, Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick, Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis. The release date is still Tba 2009. Romero’s sixth installment in his Dead series takes place on an island off the coast of North America. Local residents simultaneously fight a zombie epidemic while hoping for a cure to return their un-dead relatives back to their human state.

New Director Found For Jonah Hex

Jimmy Hayward has signed on to direct Jonah Hex, replacing Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) who left the project in November. The flick, a western based on the DC Comics character, will be Hayward’s live-action directorial debut. He previously helmed Horton Hears a Who!. The character of Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood. One incarnation of his comic book series saw the Western genre combined with supernatural elements, and it's this aspect that was featured in Neveldine and Taylor's script. The studio will likely keep the script, though it's expected that Hayward will put his stamp on it. Josh Brolin is still attached to star. Shankman Developing Birdie Remake

Adam Shankman (Bedtime Stories, Hairspray) has signed on to develop and produce a remake of Bye Bye Birdie for Columbia Pictures, report the trades. A stage favorite for the past half-century, Birdie centers on Conrad Birdie, a popular singer whose character is based loosely on Elvis Presley. He's about to be shipped off to the army, but as part of a publicity stunt, he agrees to one last encounter with a fan before he goes to war. The 1958 musical has had several screen adaptations, including an Ann-Margret and Dick Van Dyke version in 1963 and a television movie starring Jason Alexander in 1995. Columbia has been developing an updated version for a number of years, with the logline at one point re-imagining the title character as a hip-hop star. Several writers also have taken cracks at a new version of the story, with Step Up 2 the Streets director John Chu and Tina Fey

Four More Join Law Abiding Citizen

The cast for the upcoming thriller Law Abiding Citizen has grown by four. Michael Gambon, Leslie Bibb, Colm Meaney and Theresa Randle have joined Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx in the F. Gary Gray-directed vigilante movie, report the trades. Citizen centers on a district attorney who orchestrates a plea bargain that sets free the killers of another man's family. The aggrieved victim then seeks personal justice from the D.A. The Longest Yard screenwriter Sheldon Turner recently came on to do a polish on the script. Writers Kurt Wimmer (The Recruit), David Ayer (Harsh Times) and Frank Darabont (The Mist), who was once in line to direct Citizen, have also worked on the script. Butler is also producing the film along with Alan Siegel, Lucas Foster and Mark Gill. Gray’s previous directing credits include Friday, Set it Off, The Negotiator, The Italian Job remake and Be Cool. Extended Taken Trailer Hits

Yesterday we posted some clips from the upcoming action flick Taken and today IGN has debuted a new “sizzle reel”, which is essentially the best parts of the movie summed up in five minutes. Opening January 30, Taken is directed by Pierre Morel (District B13) and stars Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen, Maggie Grace, Katie Cassidy, Goran Kostic and Xander Berkeley. It was written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, the duo behind The Fifth Element, Kiss of the Dragon, Bandidas and the Transporter series. Check out the trailer below.

Is Another Oscar Winner Expendable?

The trades recently confirmed that Forrest Whitaker has officially joined the cast of Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming ensemble action flick, The Expendables, and now comes word, straight from Sly’s mouth, that another Oscar winner may be joining the cast as well. While leaving a restaurant Stallone, who wrote the script and will star and direct, told some Paparazzi that Ben Kingsley in talks to join the film. The cast already includes Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Robert Knepper and Dolph Lundgren. Production is scheduled to begin in March in Brazil. The Expendables centers on a group of mercenaries who are sent to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator to liberate the population. HBO and Warner Bros. are Shameless

HBO, Warner Bros. and writer-producer John Wells (The West Wing, Third Watch) are teaming on an American version of the popular British blue-collar TV dramedy, Shameless. In Britain, Shameless is regarded as one of the most innovative TV dramas of the past decade because of its unvarnished and sometimes hilarious take on life in the British underclass. It was created by Paul Abbott and stars David Threlfall, Gerard Kearns, Elliott Tittensor and Rebecca Ryan. It is set on a public housing estate in the northern English city of Manchester, the series’ leading character is incompetent but lovable Frank, an alcohol and drug abuser living on the margins of society who is the head of the chaotic Gallagher clan. MTV has debuted another clip from the upcoming horror flick My Bloody Valentine 3-D. In the vast wasteland of January releases, even though it will probably be campy as hell, Valentine is the one I’m looking forward to the most. Although the below clip doesn’t really show off the kind of awesomeness I think we’re in store for come January 16. The flick stars Jensen Ackles, Jaime King, Kerr Smith, Betsey Rue, Edi Gathegi, Tom Atkins, Kevin Tighe and Megan Boone. Robosapien: Rebooted Plot Details and Poster

Crystal Sky Pictures, via Slash Film, has posted the first poster and full synopsis for their upcoming Robosapien: Rebooted. The film is based on the popular toy of the same name. The flick is being produced by head Marvel Studios honcho Avi Arad and directed by Sean McNamara (Bratz, Raise Your Voice). Bobby Coleman, Penelope Ann Miller, David Eigenberg, Holliston Coleman and Kim Coates star. It’s scheduled to arrive in theaters later this year. In the flick, an inventor working for Kinetech Labs has designed a robot for search and rescue missions that has the ability to mimic human actions and emotions. After discovering that the robot's advanced microchip is actually going to be used by Kinetech for military applications, the inventor programs the robot to flee, whereupon it is damaged. Martin Scorsese Endorses Gomorrah

Gomorrah, the acclaimed Italian crime-drama from director Matteo Garrone and the Grand Prix winner at last year's Festival de Cannes, has just earned the stamp of approval from Martin Scorsese. According to the trades, the film will carry the presentation credit "Martin Scorsese Presents" when it arrives in theaters on February 13. Gomorrah, based on the book of the same name by Roberto Saviano, offers an inside look at the Camorra, a mafia-like criminal organization originating in the region of Campania and the city of Naples in Italy. It is Italy's official submission in the Academy Awards' foreign-language film category. "Matteo Garrone's 'Gomorrah' is a tough, forceful look at the Neapolitan underworld," Scorsese said. Super Troopers 2 Story Details Revealed

Super Troopers is one of the best comedies of the last ten years and it put the Broken Lizard team on the map. Subsequent flicks for the group, Club Dread and Beerfest (do we count Dukes of Hazzard?), have fallen considerably short. The Lizard crew has now decided to go back to the world of highway patrol men for the long rumored Super Troopers 2. Members of the comedy troupe, Jay Chandrasekhar and Paul Soter, recently spoke with Movieweb and revealed what the sequel will be about. "The big picture is that we are on the Canadian Border. And in reality, what has happened is that the government has found places where the markers were off, or wrong. And there are these areas of land that were thought to be Canada, but are actually part of the Us. We are enlisted to patrol this area that was always thought to be Canadian soil.

The adaptation of Capcom’s popular video game series star Kristin Kreuk, Michael Clarke Duncan, Neal McDonough, Taboo, Chris Klein, Moon Bloodgood, Edmund Chen, Cheng Pei Pei, Josie Ho and Robin Shou.
