Alfred Hitchcock - Host: [introduction] Good evening. I'm Alfred Hitchcock. And tonight, I'm presenting the first in a series of stories of suspense and mystery called, oddly enough, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". I shall not act in these stories, but will only make appearances. Something in the nature of an accessory before and after the fact - to give the title to those of you who can't read, and to tidy up afterwards for those who don't understand the endings. Tonight's playlet is really a sweet little story. It is called "Revenge". It will follow...

Alfred Hitchcock - Host: Oh, dear. I see the actors won't be ready for another 60 seconds. However, thanks to our sponsor's remarkable foresight, we have a message that will fit in here nicely.

Two super actors, Vera Miles (who Hitch admired and cast her in two of his films) and Ralph Meeker, play newly marrieds who check into a beach front trailer park. The plot is simple --Revenge. A stalker and rapist (although it could not be mentioned on tv in the 50s) attacks Miles, leaves her psychologically scarred and Meeker is out to draw blood. Interestingly, instead of saying she was raped, Miles repeats that "he killed her." Just horrible.
It's also one of those ironic tales, very relatable, putting yourself in this guys shoes and suspecting anybody and everybody because your life is turned upside down. Meeker takes the law into his own hands and drives around town with his wife, hoping to spot the guilty party. Mission accomplished... and watch what happens NEXT.
Early role for Francis Bavier (Ant Bee on ANDY GRIFFITH), playing a neighbor. A wonderful actress in this type of role, and thanks to good direction, even looking a bit suspicious herself at times.
Pretty potent stuff back in the day, and will stay with you awhile.
SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 restored CBS/Universal dvd box set. 2005 release, 4 disc set. 16 hrs. This box set is always available for collectors, and at a good price.
