From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.

Steven Spielberg was instrumental in making Jurassic World (2015) the third-highest-grossing film at the time of its release. Spielberg, who served as an executive producer in the film, suggested the idea of a functional dinosaur park to the writers. The film has now dropped a few positions on the box office-based ranking but remains the best among the Jurassic Park sequels.

Universal Studios managed to bring out two more films in the series, but even Spielberg won’t be able to save the quality drop in the movies as the franchise looks for a reboot. He has made it clear that he will not be returning as a director in the Jurassic Park franchise.

While these are more space fantasy than true sci-fi, the genre's core purpose is to offer commentary on our present and possible future. Films like Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, and Ridley Scott's The Martian are exemplary in their scientific fidelity. However, one film stands out for its unparalleled accuracy: Ron Howard's Apollo 13.
The Story of the Failed, Yet Heroic Flight to the Moon
"Apollo 13" is not your typical sci-fi movie but rather a science space drama with fictional elements, dramatizing the perilous events of the April 1970 space mission. Directed by Ron Howard, known for films like Willow, A Beautiful Mind, and The Da Vinci Code, and written by William Broyles Jr. and Al Reinert, the movie meticulously recreates the dangerous mission.

Artificial Intelligence is taking over the world slowly but surely. Many people have started losing their jobs because they are being replaced left and right by AI systems which seem to do hours of work in a few seconds. Needless to say, AI is as much a bane as it is a boon. Steven Spielberg was one of the first to give an insight into a world with advanced AI in his 2001 film A.I. Artificial Intelligence.

In a recent interview, Malcolm X colleagues Spike Lee and Giancarlo Esposito opened up about artificial intelligence and the danger it poses to both the film industry and the world. While Spike Lee admitted that A.I. Artificial Intelligence was his introduction to AI, Giancarlo Esposito was firm in his belief that no matter how much technology advances, you will never be able to replace the “soulfulness” of human beings.

Clint Eastwood is one of the leading pioneers of actors and filmmakers who popularized the Western genre and elevated it during his prime. The actor’s collaborations with Sergio Leone on the Dollars trilogy changed Westerns forever. Eastwood carried on the legacy of those who came before him and elevated the genre by taking it into unexplored territory with many of his Westerns.

The Outlaw Josey Wales, High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider, and Unforgiven were four of the Westerns masterpieces Eastwood made. While Sheridan certainly took inspiration from Eastwood, he did not want to copy one trait of his films.

In 1988, Bruce Willis committed a most grievous offense against entertainment journalists: he proved them wrong. Really wrong. Laughably wrong.
The newly minted star of ABC's "Moonlighting" drew the ire of just about everyone in Hollywood when 20th Century Fox paid him a whopping $5 million to star in the action film "Die Hard." This rankled rival studio executives, who only shelled out that kind of cash for long-established leading men like Warren Beatty and Robert Redford. While Willis might've been a minor media sensation due to "Moonlighting," with his surprise Billboard smash "The Return of Bruno" and his omnipresent Bartles and Jaymes wine cooler commercials, he had yet to prove himself worthy of a $5 million big-screen payday.
Before "Die Hard," Willis had scored a solid theatrical hit with Blake Edwards' dismally unfunny "Blind Date." This was the extent of his motion picture oeuvre when Fox declared him a massive marquee name.

Steven Spielberg has worked with several superstars during his decades-long work in the film industry. But there was one rule he refused to break for any one actor.

Spielberg once gave a little insight into his thought process for making movies. The director normally didn’t put too much priority over who starred in his movies when developing a project. Instead, Spielberg focused on the story first, and the star second.
“In the old days, when the studio system was more powerful than it ever was — in the golden days of Hollywood, i.e. the 1920s to 1950s, when the studio chiefs dominated the business — they cultivated super stars and they tailored stories for those stars,” Spielberg once told The Economic Times. “My generation has done the opposite, we found good stories and we...

Before the debut episode of Friends aired on NBC in 1994, director Jimmy Burrows took the cast on a trip to Las Vegas.

"And we had no clue what he was talking about. And sure enough, that was the last time we were able [do that].”
Such was the power of network television in the '90s.
Six unknown young actors could transform overnight into a half-dozen A-listers, entirely on the strength of one popular primetime sitcom.
Eventually, those unknowns would become the highest-paid actors in the history of television, pocketing over $1 million per episode.

Like many other folks approaching 70, Tom Hanks found himself out of the loop when the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake dominated headlines during the first week of May. So, he reached out to his son and hip-hop enthusiast, Chet Hanks, for an explanation and got a far longer response than he expected — so much so that he apparently didn’t bother reading the reply.
Chet posted the exchange in his Instagram Stories today (May 20th), which began with his father saying, “Big Main, can you explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me?”
In response, Chet broke down how Drake and J. Cole had long claimed they were among the “Big 3” of hip-hop alongside Kendrick Lamar, which prompted Kendrick to come after them on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.”
He continued by referring to Drake’s short jokes on “Push Ups” before moving on to the meat of the beef on “euphoria,...

Zoe Saldaña is one of the only actresses in Hollywood who has been part of multiple highest-grossing films. The actress played the role of Neyitri in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, which was the highest-grossing film upon release. She then beat that record with her role as Gamora in Avengers: Endgame. She reprised her role as Neyitri in Avatar: The Way of Water.

Steven Spielberg is one of the most refined filmmakers in the entire entertainment industry, gifting viewers with true cinematic gems. But while the crime-comedy is already perfect just the way it is, there’s a backstory to it too; one that makes the movie tenfold more interesting than it already is. Steven Spielberg’s legacy is a much-renowned one, unmarred by time and the arrival of new talent. His films have established a new era in Hollywood, through Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. Despite the presence of evolved technologies and newer creatives, not many have been able to recreate the scale of Spielberg’s career or overthrow his status as a living legend.

In 1994, you couldn't escape "Forrest Gump." The Robert Zemeckis-directed comedy-drama starring Tom Hanks was huge — it hauled in $678.2 million at the worldwide box office, which made it the second-highest-grossing film of '94 (the first-highest grossing film was "The Lion King"). From there, "Forrest Gump" would go on to Oscar glory, winning six Academy Awards — Best Picture, Best Director for Robert Zemeckis, Best Actor for Tom Hanks, Best Adapted Screenplay for Eric Roth, Best Visual Effects, and Best Film Editing for Arthur Schmidt. It was a cultural phenomenon, and TV reruns would eventually make it even more ubiquitous.
The story follows Forrest Gump, a man with an Iq of 75 who somehow stumbles through several major events in American history throughout the 1960s and 70s. This concept allowed Zemeckis to use what was then cutting-edge visual effects that would drop Hanks into historical footage and have him "interacting" with real-life prominent...

As buyers touch down at Lax for the annual LA Screenings, it will be a case of a return to the norm following the unusual circumstances of last year. The Hollywood labor strikes not only threw confusion on what would be a realistic purchase, but also stopped acquisitions executives getting face time (and a quick selfie) with acting and writing talent — something many value as part of their buying process.
There will be no such issues this year, and the studio sales bosses are relishing a return to the norm. “We’re really excited, it feels like we’re really back after the strikes and firing on all cylinders,” says David Decker, President of Content Sales for Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd). “We have an abundance of titles that run the gamut of broadcast and streaming in drama and comedy. We’ll be showing the best of what Wbd stands for.

Steven Spielberg used a filming technique he hadn’t applied since E.T. to shoot the classic film Saving Private Ryan. But he didn’t expect the demoralizing effect that would have on the film.

Spielberg already knew he was going to direct a world war two movie before he did Saving Private Ryan. He just didn’t know what movie that was gonna be before the Tom Hanks war film. He was soon sent the film’s script by a screenwriter, and found the war movie he wanted to do.
“As a matter of fact, it was the only time in my several decades of having an agent that they actually gave me a screenplay that I wound up directing,” he once told the DGA.

Stars Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey set TV screens ablaze in the romantic period drama “Fellow Travelers.” The Showtime miniseries follows two men whose love is intertwined across several decades, spanning wars and political events. Since its debut in October, it has received widespread acclaim.
Revealed exclusively to Variety, the series has been submitted for 23 potential Primetime Emmy nominations across multiple categories. In addition to outstanding limited or anthology series, the pilot episode, penned by Ron Nyswaner and directed by Daniel Minahan, will serve as the official submission in their respective categories.
For his role as Hawk Fuller, a closeted World War II veteran, Bomer is campaigning in the lead actor (limited) category, competing against heavyweights such as Jon Hamm (“Fargo”), Richard Gadd (“Baby Reindeer”) and Andrew Scott (“Ripley”). He was a previous Emmy nominee for playing Felix Turner in the 2014 television movie “The Normal Heart, where he was heavily...

Cannes is not lacking for glamor this year, even in the documentary lineup.
Among the films premiering at the festival is Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes, an HBO feature documentary directed by Nanette Burstein and produced by J.J. Abrams, Glen Zipper, Sean M. Stuart, and Bill Gerber. The documentary draws on conversations with the star recorded decades ago for an autobiography.
“Entirely through the efforts of the [Taylor] estate, they were able to track those tapes down and reclaim them,” Zipper explained in an interview just before he flew to Cannes. “I remember getting an email from one of the trustees of the estate of a picture of the tapes in a box on a private jet on their way back to Los Angeles, strapped in with a seatbelt.”

After pioneering feature length computer animated features with "Toy Story," Pixar Animation became the gold standard for the medium. But it wasn't just because of the innovative animation style providing a new palette for storytelling. Like the many Walt Disney Animation movies that came in the decades before Pixar rose to prominence, the filmmakers at Pixar had a knack for finding the perfect voices for their characters. Whether it was Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz Lightyear or Patton Oswalt as Remy in "Ratatoiulle," Pixar has always let the perfect voices shine in their work, even if they don't come from the biggest stars. That's especially true with "Inside Out."
In "Inside Out," a stellar ensemble came together to voice the core emotions inside the mind of an 11-year old girl named Riley. Amy Poehler delivered boundless exuberance and enthusiasm as Joy, Phyllis Smith brought an adorable melancholy to Sadness,...

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are among the most iconic pairings of all time. Having starred together in 1994’s Speed, the two have been a fan favorite casting, with many wanting to see more of them on-screen. Unfortunately, such a miracle is yet to happen, for after starring in The Lake House (which hardly featured them together), they have never managed to work together.
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock (in The Lake House)
Despite stating countless times that they would love to reunite on-screen, a potential Speed 3 has never happened. And if it were to ever take place, it would be even more iconic since Bullock wasn’t even the first or second choice for the role of Annie.

In a recent podcast, Rebel Wilson revealed she lost money starring in the 2011 hit comedy movie “Bridesmaids.” The Judd Apatow-produced, female-driven comedy “Bridesmaids” launched the career of the Australian actress Rebel Wilson, who was a novice in Hollywood. However, while the actress maintained that she was fortunate to be cast in the film that landed her future movie roles, she revealed she was practically broke for a year after starring in it.
The worldwide hit “Bridesmaids” grossed over $160 Million against a production cost of $33 Million in 2011. While the movie made a huge chunk of profit, Rebel Wilson revealed she lost money starring in the 2011 comedy. Gypsy Rose Blanchard is accused of plotting her mother Dee Dee’s murder in 2015 with her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, who is currently serving time in prison. Gypsy Rose was reportedly subjected to years of abuse, including unnecessary medical procedures, by her mother, Dee Dee, who had Munchausen syndrome by proxy. Is Tom Hanks Eyeing Gotham? Actor Expresses Interest in Portraying Batman Villain ( Photo Credit – Flickr )
Renowned for his adaptability in a multitude of genres from comedy, romance, science fiction to war dramas, Tom Hanks previously revealed his aspiration to join the cast of a Batman film. Given the expansive realms within the DC universe, the possibility of Hanks realizing this dream has heightened, hinting at an intriguing evolution in his professional journey.
During an interview with On Demand Entertainment a decade ago to promote “Captain Phillips,” Tom Hanks discussed his absence from major superhero films and whether it was intentional. Hanks shared that although he hadn’t been approached for such roles, he had a keen interest in the genre, especially in playing a villain, preferably a Batman adversary, as he preferred not to portray characters guiding the heroes.

I spent the first 37 years of my life on the East Coast, and even there, I knew who Sam Rubin was.
The beloved Ktla Los Angeles entertainment reporter, who died May 10 at age 64, was a Hollywood fixture for over 30 years, beloved, trusted and respected. Drawing heartfelt tributes ranging from industry veterans like Tom Hanks and Henry Winkler and rising stars like Charmaine Bingwa, I’ve never seen such an outpouring for an entertainment journalist since perhaps Roger Ebert in 2013. Sam greeted everyone with the same infectious enthusiasm and genuine curiosity, whether they were industry stalwarts or nervous newcomers. He was synonymous with Los Angeles but he was also known well outside of Southern California through his reporting for ITV and Australia’s 9 Network.

Eric Newman was the showrunner for the Netflix series “Narcos” in 2015 when Sofia Vergara – then in the middle of her run starring as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the multiple Emmy-winning comedy “Modern Family” – invited him to her home to pitch him on the idea of her fronting a project where she portrayed the Colombian drug “queenpin” Griselda Blanco. “Obviously I knew her work and was a fan of hers,” Newman recalls. “I also knew she (Vergara) was Colombian, which is an important distinction. And I knew a lot about Griselda Blanco and was fascinated with her as a character. I felt that if Sofia was willing to take the risk…just the thought that she was interested in doing this was appealing. So I went into the meeting very excited and hopeful that I would be met with a level of passion and conviction that would help make my decision very easy – and I was.

For one magical week, everybody with hands anywhere near advertising purse strings is being pampered like royalty — unless, lord help them, they attempted to capture one frame of the Wicked trailer. Because anybody who did that during Monday morning’s NBCUniversal upfront presentation is likely halfway to a black site by now.

If one was to compare two of the greatest cinematic products of the 1990s, it would be amiss not to elevate Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction to the top of the list. But it was also these two cinematic giants that competed for the Oscars in 1995 with one coming out on top and giving rise to a never-ending debate that rages even 30 years later.

Marielle Heller is a young American filmmaker known for her debut feature The Diary of a Teenage Girl, as well as for the Tom Hanks-led A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, which told the story of Fred Rogers, one of America’s most famous television presenters. Well, the filmmaker has taken on a new project, which will be released later this year, and we can already confirm that it will be something wholly different than Heller’s work so far, but with the cast involved and the surreal story, it promises to be a very exciting feature.
The movie in question is going to be titled Nightbitch, and it is slated for a December 6, 2024 release. The movie will be based on the eponymous book by Rachel Yoder, which deals with the issues of motherhood from a very surreal and different perspective, showing how it can be both horrid and hilarious at the same time.

NBC has unveiled its 2024 fall schedule, which highlights franchise dramas, two nights of laughs, unscripted hits, live specials, and holiday programming. All new series will stream the next day on Peacock along with the rest of NBC’s entertainment lineup.
Three new series are set to premiere in the fall, including the drama Brilliant Minds, starring Zachary Quinto and inspired by the true story of a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist, Oliver Wolf, and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier — the human mind — while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
Also coming is St. Denis Medical, which stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, and David Alan Grier and is from co-creators Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin. It brings the laughs with a mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.

The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont opened up about meeting fantastic people in a callous industry like the film industry during a 2014 interview. He hated that the tabloids painted a bad picture of an actor like Tom Cruise without getting the full picture of how he is in real life. Darabont shared that people should ask his good friend Simon Pegg about the kind of human the Mission: Impossible actor was.

NBC’s schedule for the 2024-25 season doesn’t look that different from its current lineup: The Voice on Monday and Tuesday nights, the three Chicago dramas on Wednesday and Law & Order shows on Thursday.
It’s a business-as-usual lineup — but after last year’s strikes-affected schedule and the numerous disrpuptions of the pandemic year of 2020-21 still relatively fresh, that’s a good thing.
“Basically, it was just where do we put our sophomore shows and our our new shows on schedule?” Steve Kern, senior vp program planning and scheduling at NBC Entertainment, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “Our wish was to have two comedy blocks on the fall schedule, and we were fortunate to have enough comedies to do it this year.”
