Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s turn in Bullet Train has led to theories he’s going to play Bond next. But do actors who play Bond-like characters go on to actually play 007? We take a look.
At the time of writing, at least, there’s much speculation about Aaron Taylor-Johnson and his connection to the James Bond franchise. In March, a British newspaper with a big red masthead spread the rumour that the actor is secretly being lined up to play 007, taking over from Daniel Craig.
It’s a rumour so persistent that Taylor-Johnson has started to get a bit cross when ‘The Bond Question’ is brought up in interviews. When asked by an Associated Press reporter about the whole matter, Taylor-Johnson looked down at his feet, as though trying to repress some terrifying wellspring of anger, before abruptly marching off with a chirpy, “Alright, have a good one!”

Sean Connery’s legacy in film history is irrefutable just as much as his contribution to the evolution of late 20th-century cinema. Despite the era’s misgivings and misogyny, Connery remains an irrevocable icon for his role as James Bond in the franchise’s first live-action film Dr. No. His blue-eyed, broad-shouldered, and laid-back charm not only hypnotized millions but also brought the Scotsman fame on a level previously unheard of.

Sadder still, the actor blatantly used his fame as a tool to lord over industry producers and directors for a bigger payday.

Daniel Craig breathed fresh life into James Bond, the iconic British spy that Ian Fleming created. The actor took the character and put a different spin on it, and it was clear from the get-go in Casino Royale.
The film’s success exceeded expectations, and Craig’s outing as the protagonist was greatly appreciated too. He donned the skin of the character with panache and delivered a memorable performance. Moreover, the film established a trend after 19 years, that its predecessors had deviated from.

James Bond isn’t just another name. It’s an entire legacy on its own. Stemmed from Ian Fleming’s novels, the British secret agent quickly became a household name, and eventually, a huge part of the film industry. Seven actors have had their turn of bringing the character to life but it all started with Sean Connery all the way back in 1962.
Sean Connery as James Bond in Dr. No (1962)
While Sean Connery’s portrayal of the character still remains an iconic one, Ian Fleming was initially not his biggest fan. In fact, when Sean Connery was finally cast as James Bond, the author was quick to comment that the actor was not the “elegant man” he had quite hoped for. To top it all off, Ian Fleming was actually interested in another actor altogether!

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has gotten support from a former James Bond actor after rumors the Bullet Train star got offered to be the next 007 agent.
George Lazenby, who portrayed Bond in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, gave his seal of approval to Taylor-Johnson following reports he was in contention for the role.
According to a recent TMZ report, Lazenby said Taylor-Johnson would be able to “handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux.”
Lazenby noted that he doesn’t think Taylor-Johnson has the role yet because “when he auditioned for the part back in the 1960s, he went through a bunch of different tests and auditions before he won the role.”
James Bond was most recently played by English actor Daniel Craig, who took over the role in 2006’s Casino Royale. Craig would continue portraying the spy in 2008’s Quantum of Solace, 2012’s Skyfall,...

While the former Superman, Henry Cavill, is a fan favorite, recent reports indicated that Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson was offered the role by the studio and that he was expected to take up the offer and announce soon.
However, the rumor has not been confirmed by the actor or the production house, leading fans to bash the outlet that broke the news. Taylor-Johnson’s apparent confirmation as James Bond led to many fans being dejected by Cavill’s loss, but the campaign seems to be on full steam now that the news has been unconfirmed.

“How can a short, blond actor with the rough face of a professional boxer and a penchant for playing villains, killers, cranks, and cads pull off the role of a tall, dark, handsome, and suave secret agent?”
So asks the front page of the website Daniel Craig is Not Bond, one of many fan-sites launched in the wake of the actor getting cast as James Bond for Casino Royale back in 2005. Nearly two decades later, the question seems laughable, as Craig elevated the franchise into something rich and emotionally dense, touching on qualities the series rarely attempted.
The 20/20 hindsight about Craig’s tenure comes in handy with the escalating rumors that Eon Productions have offered Aaron Taylor-Johnson the Bond role. On paper, Taylor-Johnson seems like the safe choice, a conventionally handsome white Englishman, a veteran of big-budget movies such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Godzilla, and Tenet.

Ian Fleming’s secret agent with a license to kill, James Bond has been brought to life by seven actors. It began with Sean Connery in 1962 and most recently, Daniel Craig finished his stint as Agent 007.
Daniel Craig || No Time to Die
Craig’s performance as the character is critically acclaimed, and some even call his portrayal the best ever. However, it might surprise one that Craig was initially hesitant to take on the role. While he might have been a bit reluctant to don that iconic tuxedo, the producers knew exactly what the movie needed and managed to have him on board.

Bond portrayers in the past have bounced around the globe a bit, beginning with Scot Sean Connery before moving on to Brit Roger Moore, Aussie George Lazenby, Wales’ own Timothy Dalton, then off to Ireland with Pierce Brosnan, before landing on five-timer Daniel Craig, yet another Brit. But for the next James Bond, Brosnan thinks it’s time to return to Ireland, albeit much farther south. So who does Brosnan think could be the next 007? The name’s Murphy, Cillian Murphy.
Speaking with BBC at the Oscar Wilde Awards – so named after the Irish wit – Pierce Brosnan said, “Cillian would do a magnificent job as James Bond on His Majesty’s Secret Service.” This even sounds like Brosnan might be calling for a redo on that 1969 entry, which featured Lazenby’s one-off shot at 007. This wouldn’t be too surprising considering Brosnan has less been enthusiastic about Lazenby compared to other portrayers,...

Remember the first year of Russell T Davies reboot of Doctor Who? That season eased viewers back into the world of the Doctor, re-establishing a few classic villains such as the Daleks and the Autons, but also using the Time War as an excuse for avoiding references to the past.
Contrast that to the past few years, in which the show has no concerns with going back to previous adventures. Modern Doctors have met previous incarnations — sometimes in older form (as in the returns of Peter Davison and Tom Baker), sometimes recast (as in the case of David Bradley stepping in for William Hartnell), and sometimes in digital form (basically every other case). Classic villains have returned, not just the Master, the Daleks, or Cybermen, but even odd-balls like the Toymaker, whose one previous appearance can’t be watched in any form anymore. Looney Tunes is not leaving Max after all. The streamer had released a list that included the classic cartoons leaving the platform in December.
Max has since revised their “What’s New on Max This December” press release.
“Looney Tunes was included in error as a title leaving the platform,” read the statement clarifying the status of the classic shorts. “This is not the case and the show will continue streaming on Max.”
An outcry from fans of the show followed on social media after believing Bugs Bunny and his friends would not live on the streaming platform anymore.
The error comes a couple weeks after Wbd announced it would be scrapping the already-completed Coyote Vs. Acme for a tax writeoff. The David Zaslav-run company reconsidered the decision after fan backlash and set up screenings for streamers who might want to buy it.

It’s the battle of the Bond Cars this Christmas as Scalextric release a corker of a set! The Scalextric 007 DB5 vs V8 set, available exclusively online, features two of Bond’s most iconic cars and firm fan favourites, we mean of course, the Aston Martin DB5 and V8 Vantage.
Christmas was always a time for us growing up when Dad would get out the Scalextric set and set it up over the lounge floor. We can remember the sound, the distinctive smell and the fun! So the timing of this sets release couldn’t be more perfect.
We were gifted this impressive looking set for the purpose of review but in all honestly it’s really reminded our whole extended family how much we all enjoy having the Scalextrics around. You see we thought we would set it up, check it was the quality we’d expect, check the...

James Bond has been played by many actors throughout his years on the big screen. But if one director had it his way, Daniel Day-Lewis would’ve been the ideal choice to portray the character.
This director felt Daniel Day-Lewis was how Ian Fleming pictured James Bond Daniel Day-Lewis | Jason Merritt/Getty Images
William Boyd once opened up on the actor he felt made a perfect match for the MI6 agent. Boyd was both closely connected to the Bond mythology as well as the film industry. As a screen writer, he’s even worked worked with a couple of Bond actors himself like Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan. Still, Boyd felt that Day-Lewis might be the Bond that resembled Fleming’s version the most.

There are countless ways to enjoy the James Bond series, and every 007 aficionado has their preferred method. And they'll talk your ear off about it. Some suggest starting with the highlights, the best of the best, and then doubling back to fill in the gaps. It's the most fun way to do it. Others will tell you to take a deep breath, lean into the wind, and just watch the whole shebang straight through in chronological order of release. It's the most rewarding way to do it (even though you'll suffer through some serious stinkers).
A similar logic applies to each individual Bond era. Some, like Timothy Dalton's brisk run as the world's most dashing secret agent, are over in the blink of an eye. Others, like Daniel Craig's modern reboot, actually demand a specific order to be fully appreciated. But Sean Connery, the first James Bond...

As the series nears its final curtain call, Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 11 examines and addresses the team's individual challenges while pulling some top-shelf time travel shenanigans.
The most satisfying element is Jane's reunion with the alt personas of the Underground and Kay. Jane's last session ever with Niles even connects a few dots that have been drifting in space since the first season.
The return of Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder, aka The Chief, is the most obvious signpost that this truly is the end. His scenes throughout the team's Time Stream adventures provide a lot of closure. It's just too bad Dorothy couldn't have been part of that.
Predictably, looking for Immortus's longevity skin tag without having to contend with Immortus involves dealing with Niles in various phases of his life.
Cliff gets to tangle with the earliest version of The Chief, and it's a doozy of an encounter.

The Daniel Craig era of James Bond changed up the many decades-long film series in a number of different ways. Most notably was its tonal shift, steering further away from the goofier and campier elements of the series that the "Austin Powers" trilogy had so much fun lampooning. After all, once you make "Die Another Day," the only direction you can go is a more grounded one. But there had been serious James Bond films before, such as the earliest Sean Connery films or the Timothy Dalton era. The bigger change the Craig films made was taking a page out of the modern franchise booklet, and that was serialization.
The first 20 James Bond films may have brought actors and filmmakers over from one film to another, but the plots of those films rarely carried over. Part of the pleasure of...

Los Angeles, Oct 22 (Ians) The iconic action spy thriller franchise ‘James Bond’ is on a hiatus as there has been no work done post the Daniel Craig era. It is not even decided who will take up the mantle of the MI6 agent 007 after Craig left the franchise with ‘No Time To Die’, as revealed by producer Barbara Broccoli.
Broccoli, who helms the film series with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, explained that it’s important for the next installment to depict the way the world has changed since Craig took on the role of James Bond in 2006, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The character of James Bond has been reinvented and modernised over the decades with many new iterations covering different eras, episodes, and socio-political scenarios. This has also led to various different versions of the character ranging from the womanising, and charming portrayal by Sean Connery and Roger Moore,...

Martin Campbell's "GoldenEye" is one of the most important films in the history of the James Bond franchise. The series had been mothballed for six years after the box office disappointment of "License to Kill" in 1989, which brought the two-film Timothy Dalton era to a premature halt. While producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson searched for Dalton's successor, the world went through a rapid metamorphosis. The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, precipitating the end of the Warsaw Pact and the breakup of the Soviet Union. The Cold War was over. The West won. Where did Bond fit in this new world order?
Old hostilities die hard, especially in spy fiction, so it's no surprise that screenwriters Jeffrey Caine and Bruce Feirstein (working from a story by Michael France) concocted a Russia-centric adventure revolving around an electromagnetic weapon that would plunge the Cold War victors into a global financial crisis.

Few fictional characters don't require an introduction. James Bond is one of them.
Across 25 films, produced over 60-plus years, Ian Fleming's debonair, dangerous, and dashing spy has been at the center of a cinematic legacy that defies the odds. Perhaps only Sherlock Holmes offers comparison -- a character so iconic, so popular, so fully-formed, but also so flexible that it's impossible to imagine the modern pop culture landscape with him. Agent 007 set the standard. And then resets it every decade or so.
Of course, a character this important (to both fans and the producers crafting his movies) needs an actor capable of filling that tux and wielding that pistol. And here's the truth: There has never been a bad Bond actor. Sure, there have been plenty of terrible James Bond movies, but no actor has actually embarrassed themselves or the franchise. They've all shown up. They all understood the assignment.

In many ways, Timothy Dalton's James Bond was before his time. Following the more tongue-in-cheek approach taken by Roger Moore, Dalton debuted as Bond in 1987's "The Living Daylights" as a more hard-edged 007 that wasn't a far cry from what Daniel Craig would bring to the role some 16 years later. Dalton would continue that more character-focused portrayal with 1989's "Licence to Kill," but at the time, not all critics were convinced.
Among all the James Bond movies, Dalton's two outings are by no means viewed as blunders. But they aren't necessarily seen as all-time classics, either. Dalton never really got the scripts he deserved, and it seems longtime Bond producer Albert "Cubby" Broccoli may have seen it similarly. After "Licence to Kill," Broccoli decided to part ways with Richard Maibaum, though the writer claims he left "by mutual consent." Maibaum had co-written the movie that kicked off the Bond franchise,...

To clarify right away, James Bond, Jr. (Corey Burton), the title character from a barely-remembered 007-adjacent 1991 animated series, is not the son of James Bond. More confusingly, James Bond, Jr. is actually the nephew of James Bond. "He learned the game from his uncle James," the theme song makes very clear. This means that James Bond did indeed have a brother, but also that his brother was named James as well ...?
As of this writing, "James Bond Jr." is the only TV adaptation to date of Ian Fleming's ultra-popular James Bond book series. It came at a fascinating time in the history of the James Bond franchise, as Timothy Dalton's two-film run had come to an end, and a messy rights dispute behind the scenes kept Bond off the big screen for years. James Bond has been a franchise that Christopher Nolan has always been interested in dabbling in. But some critics already felt he borrowed heavily from the franchise when making one of his projects.

The world was a drastically different place when the James Bond film series kicked off in 1962 with "Dr. No." Gender roles were still set in stone. It was a man's world, one in which women were expected to keep a clean and orderly house while the breadwinner put in his forty hours a week. Should a woman seek employment outside of the home, it's because they were single and could type or file up a storm.
In movies, unmarried women tended to be tragic figures or femme fatales (when they weren't queens or goddesses). If they weren't desperate for a good man to make them whole, they were hellbent on compromising and destroying one. Or they were tools of wealthy, nefarious men, like the Bond girls. Beginning with Ursula Andress' Honey Ryder, the Bond girl was typically a femme fatale who helplessly fell for the British secret agent's rough charm...

In the universe of James Bond, there are several tiers of villains. There are the primary villains, of course, the mad geniuses like Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Auric Goldfinger, Karl Stromberg, or Max Zorin, who plot to take down financial institutions, governments, military installations, or even the entire world. Sometimes it’s even all of the above Next, however, are the secondary adversaries who may support the main villain in their plans but are often either in it for their own financial gain (as opposed to world conquest), or because they’re in trouble, and this is their only way out. Think of Pussy Galore from Goldfinger, Milton Krest from Licence to Kill, General Ouromov from GoldenEye, Professor Dent from Dr. No… and the list goes on and on.
And then there are the henchmen who are there for one sole reason: to kill James Bond, or in the words of one famous villain,...

Being an international super spy comes with its share of drawbacks, which apparently include upsetting censors around the world. While James Bond has faced numerous censorship struggles throughout his more than 60-year on-screen run, he's often had a particular issue in his home country. For example, the original ending of 1971's "Diamonds Are Forever" was a little too S&m for the British censors, and was initially supposed to depict Jill St. John's Tiffany Case being tied to a bed by the charmingly bizarre Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd (Bruce Glover and Putter Smith respectively).
