“Let’s face it, I had a bad script,” director Michael Bay said on the commentary track of his debut feature film, Bad Boys. Bay isn’t wrong. Bad Boys relies on buddy comedy tropes already established in 1974’s Freebie and the Bean and 1982’s 48 Hrs., complete with nonsense plot points. “But I had real comic talent in my two stars.” Bay of course means Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. Drawn from the popular sitcoms Martin and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Lawrence and Smith saved the movie from the clunky script with their easy chemistry and comic timing.
At one point, however, Bad Boys had two very different stars in mind with a comic chemistry unlike that of Lawrence and Smith.

This article contains major spoilers for "Bad Boys: Ride or Die."
What does it mean to be a Bad Boy? That's the unasked question lingering over the "Bad Boys" franchise, but the question as well as the answer isn't as clear cut as it appears. After all, the title could be ironic, especially when Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz were originally slated to star in the first film. By the time the project morphed into Michael Bay's first feature starring then-tv sitcom stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the title became a mission statement, where the film was going to (and eventually did) prove that these funnymen could be genuinely badass.
After "Bad Boys II," 2020's "Bad Boys For Life" appeared to be a swan song for Detectives Mike Lowry (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) as they faced the ravages of age as well as their checkered pasts, eventually...

The original Bad Boys debuted nearly 30 years ago, and even with a first-time director, two stars untested at the box office and a scramble to finish the script, nothing could handcuff the film’s success.
After a string of hits that included Flashdance, Beverly Hills Cop and Top Gun, producing partners Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer began developing a buddy-cop script from George Gallo (Midnight Run) called Bulletproof Heart. Saturday Night Live standouts Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz were eyed to star, but Will Smith and Martin Lawrence ultimately landed the leads. (In 2013, Arsenio Hall told The Hollywood Reporter about his regret over having turned down Smith’s part: “Sometimes I made bad choices.”)
At the time, Smith and Lawrence were starring on the sitcoms The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Martin, respectively, and neither had led a studio movie. Making his feature directorial debut was Michael Bay, known for music videos and commercials.

“Freeze mother bitches!” What’s the all-time best buddy cop movie ever made? 48 Hrs? Lethal Weapon? Beverly Hills Cop? Rush Hour? The Nice Guys? In terms of story and dramatic action, any one of these titles warrants serious consideration. But when it comes to the onscreen rapport and natural chemistry between two stars in a buddy cop movie, it’s hard to beat 1995’s Bad Boys – the directorial debut of the divisive filmmaker Michael Bay. Sure, Bay has earned a rightful rep as a bold and boisterous music-video director turned filmmaker who favors big, dumb, pyrotechnic excesses over quality cinematic storytelling.
However, Bay does deserve at least a modicum of credit for pairing the comedic talents of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence together as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett – two immensely likable Miami narcotics officers who trade crackling banter and witty one-liners whose onscreen partnership drives the engagement and entertainment level.

Just as no history of Saturday Night Live would be complete without mention of The Groundlings, it would be impossible to tell the story of The Groundlings without talking about the role SNL has played in their continued success. Which is exactly what the legendary improv and sketch comedy theater intends to do when it hosts a star-studded panel later this month.
On Friday, June 28, The Groundlings will welcome back a handful of alums who have made it big both on that Los Angeles stage as well as in the hallowed halls of Studio 8H.
The panel, which will be moderated by current Main Company member Josh Duvendeck, will bring together what the official calendar listing describes as “legends of SNL and The Groundlings,” including original Not Ready For Prime-Time Player Laraine Newman, Jon Lovitz, Cheri Oteri, Chris Parnell, Julia Sweeney, Taran Killam, and Will Forte (who will beam in...

When Saturday Night Live began, it wasn’t even called Saturday Night Live. That honor belonged to a rival variety show hosted by Howard Cosell that launched the same year on ABC primetime. Hence why the young, hungry, and immensely talented sketch comedians assembled in 1975 were dubbed the “Not Ready for Primetime Players.”
That earliest and now quasi-mythical first class of SNL alumni remain the only ones to hold that title. Perhaps this is because the joke stopped working after many of them proved more than capable of carrying a primetime television series. In fact, most of them went on to have successful careers on TV, the Broadway stage, and for the precious and most spectacular few… in the movies.
Ever since Chevy Chase exited SNL after its first season, the series has been viewed—sometimes to creator and producer Lorne Michaels and NBC executives’ consternation—as a launchpad for movie stardom.

Have you ever stopped to marvel at the wonders human talent can achieve? Take Tom Hanks’ example, whose popularity stems from his roles in major blockbusters like Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, and Saving Private Ryan, making him one of Hollywood’s top actors. But that is not the only thing the 67-year-old is good at; he is also a terrific voice actor and is equally adept at comedy and impersonation.
Tom Hanks in Catch Me If You Can
Since he first joined the five-timers club, he has hosted numerous episodes of Saturday Night Live in addition to making several cameos. In a sketch titled ‘The Stand-Ups’, which Hanks performed during his first Saturday Night Live hosting gig, stand-up comedians conversed backstage while using the same voices they did on stage.

Comedian Jon Lovitz raised questions about the lack of outrage from Hollywood actors over the pro-Palestinian protests taking place at college campuses across the United States.
In an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters on Jesse Waters Primetime, Lovitz, who is Jewish and outspoken about his conservative beliefs, expressed surprise that other actors weren’t being more vocal.
“People say, ‘Why are you speaking up? Why aren’t other people in Hollywood, who are way bigger names than me, not saying anything?'” Lovitz said. “And my answer is, I don’t know. I think either they’re afraid, or they’re afraid they’re going to lose… that it’ll hurt their business.”
Protests that demand a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict have erupted on multiple college campuses in recent days and resulted in arrests, student suspensions and heightened police presence.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

So what can be said about Andy Dick that the paparazzi and nearly every Judge from West Virginia to Los Angeles hasn’t already said? He was once a rising star in the comedy world with lovably nerdy characters on hit TV series before his demons grabbed a hold of him and took him down an over 25 year path of endless headlines with his name often times preceding the word “arrested.” In those years, he has compiled more Mug Shots than Head Shots and went from Star on the Rise to Registered Sex Offender. Yeah, I don’t know how else to say this other than: Wtf Happened to Andy Dick?!
But as always we must begin at the beginning and the beginning began on his birthday, December 21, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating high school in the suburbs of Illinois, Andy would study at the famed Second City and...

Martin Lawrence and Will Smith play two Miami narcotics detectives, Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowery, in the Bad Boys franchise. The first film in the franchise was made in 1995 when Smith was still the young star from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. However, Lawrence was a major star at the time and it will surprise many fans to learn that he commanded a higher paycheck than Smith.

If anyone should be able to engineer a reunion of “Saturday Night Live” alumni, it should be Dan Aykroyd.

Fox Nation wants to get in on the streaming comedy boom that has largely been fomented by Netflix.
The Fox News streaming outlet plans to turn January into a comedy-themed month, one that is led by two stand-up concerts featuring Fox’s own talent as well as a new series about the history of drinking hosted by Dan Aykroyd and other alumni from “Saturday Night Live.”
Fox News may be known for snarky one-liners about liberals and Democrats, but it’s less known for comedy stylings, even with the satirical Greg Gutfeld leading a primetime program at 10 p.m. But Fox Nation, once largely seeded with programming that tackled news and politics, has been tilting at lifestyle and documentary programming for months. Are Thomas and Juliet better together or apart?
That relationship quandary was at the heart of Magnum P.I. Season 5 Episode 17, and it made for a couple of entertaining cases, one comedic, one dramatic.
Higgins had no one but herself to blame for what was to transpire.
On yet another day beginning at La Mariana, Rick and T.C. were fawning like schoolgirls over their rekindled romances with Suzy and Mahina, respectively.
This set Juliet to pondering: Did she and Thomas spend too much time together?
This is a question with which couples who work and live together must navigate, so it's relevant to many viewers.
Magnum correctly saw Higgins' query as a trap. Fortunately, circumstances quickly gave him an out, as the work partners had two cases with which to deal.
Juliet should have been careful what she wished for, as she ended up with Jin.

While he admitted that hosts like these should have the freedom to talk about whatever they want, he still believed that these shows have become more political over time. He specifically focused on how divisive these shows have become ever since the Trump era.
“I don’t like it. I don’t like it,” the SNL alum told Fox News. “They were comedy shows. And now, except for Jimmy Fallon, they’ve all become very political. And for me, it’s just – it’s too much.”
“I mean, Johnny Carson would, you know, he would do two or three jokes about whoever was president then or what was going on then and that was it. But they were entertainment shows,” he continued.

Film fans talk about the 1990s as another Golden Age of cinema. Not only is there the jam-packed year of 1999, which gave us classics such as The Matrix, Toy Story 2, and The Talented Mr. Ripley, but the 90s also saw the rise of new auteurs, including Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, David Fincher, and Guillermo del Toro. Hollywood turned its attention to indie and foreign films, enriching a moviegoing experience that still featured fan-favorite blockbusters.
But to really see how good the 90s were, we can’t just look at the hits. Rather, the flops tell us the true tale of the decade’s quality – the movies that audiences skipped at the time but have proven their worth in the years that followed. Here are the best flops of the 1990s; films that couldn’t find a wide enough audience upon release, but still deserve attention today.

The Office fans tuning into Celebrity Jeopardy! on Wednesday (October 4) night were surprised to hear that Brian Baumgartner’s real voice is very different from his beloved character, Kevin Malone. “Wow, I had no idea that Brian Baumgartner doesn’t actually sound like Kevin!” wrote one viewer on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum. “As Jon Lovitz would say, “Acting!” Boy, he had me completely fooled on The Office. I really thought he was, well, y’know, a moron.” Baumgartner played Kevin on the hit NBC sitcom from 2005 to 2013. His character was part of the accounting department at the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin and was known for his lack of communication skills, naïveté, and child-like optimism. On the show, Baumgartner spoke with a very distinct, slow, raspy tone, which is much different from his real-life voice, which is very clear and dignified. And some fans are still only just finding out,...

Today came the sad news that Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell died at 56. Smash Mouth is undoubtedly best known today for the fact their 1999 hit song "All Star" played at the very beginning of the first "Shrek" movie. Like with everything else related to "Shrek," the song has become a bit of a meme.
It's easy to forget, however, that before "Shrek" debuted at Cannes and went on to win the very first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, "All Star" was a smash hit way before Shrek. It was considered one of the best songs of 1999 and even got nominated for the Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal Grammy. While "Shrek" immortalized it, it was actually another film from 2001 that gave us the best use of "All Star," and one of the best endings to a movie of the last 20 years.

Though “Friends” primarily followed its core six people, the cast certainly had a lot of their own friends stop by the show over the years. In rewatching the show, you might spot a lot of familiar faces that you didn’t remember — or maybe didn’t even know the first time they appeared.
Beginning in 1994, the NBC sitcom ran for 10 seasons. And, considering it ran during the age of television when seasons were usually 23 or 24 episodes long, there were plenty of opportunities for the cast and creators to bring in celebrity guest stars.
Some just came for an episode, and some stuck around a little longer, but each one left their own mark. So, we rounded up just about all of them — excluding those like Tom Selleck and Elliott Gould who were more regularly recurring stars on “Friends.”
You can see the list below.

Forget the pleasantries, today sucks. Paul Reubens, best known for his incomparable work as Pee-wee Herman, has passed away. The weird, wacky, and wonderful comedy figure is one of the most influential creatives ever to do it, and left in his wake is an irreplaceable void of silly, absurdist joy. Reubens' created the character of Pee-wee Herman while performing with The Groundlings, the legendary improvisational comedy troupe boasting alumni like Laraine Newman, Pat Morita, Craig T. Nelson, Jon Lovitz, Adrienne Barbeau, Conan O'Brien, Phil Hartman, Phil Lamarr, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Coolidge, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Will Forte, Annie Mumolo, Kaitlin Olson, Edi Patterson, Tony Cavalero, and a ridiculous number of other eventual "Saturday Night Live" players.
Pee-wee Herman was an immediate hit and led to Reubens writing, producing, directing, and starring in "The Pee-wee Herman Show." He quickly became a household name, and the Pee-wee character would get another show,...

The effect of The Simpsons on pop culture can’t be overstated. In the early nineties, the show tapped into the cultural zeitgeist in a way few others had before. Indeed, no other cartoon show could reasonably emulate it- but Hollywood couldn’t help but try. Capitol Critters, Family Dog, and Fish Police were just a few of the shows that tried to be “the new Simpsons.” Still, the only one that really came close was ABC’s The Critic, starring the voice of Jon Lovitz as Jay Sherman, perhaps the world’s least-loved film critic and the subject of this Gone But Not Forgotten episode.
Unlike other wannabe animated hits, The Critic could boast a legit connection to The Simpsons, with it also being a production of James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films. At the same time, creators Al Jean and Mike Reiss had been showrunners on The Simpsons during...

When strolling through the Criterion Collection, one can be sure to find the work of many filmmaking auteurs like Hitchcock, Godard, Kurosawa, Fellini, Bergman, Truffaut… and Bay! That’s right, tell your friendly neighborhood cinema snob that Michael Bay has two films in the Criterion Collection and watch their heads explode like…well like a Michael Bay movie.
and one thing is for sure: Michael Bay knows how to blow stuff up real good! Story can often times seem secondary as long as they get the perfect shot…. which often features some of that sweet sweet product placement or that sweet sweet red white and blue. And with his epic fast paced use of movement and scale, Bay has become a genre unto himself, affectionately dubbed Bayhem. But with the Transformer movies in his rearview and an under-performing effort in 2022, its time we figure out just What Happened to Michael Bay!

The Carlson-created options currently available on the service are manifold. Three all new celebrities in disguise took took the stage for “80s Night” on Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.” After a performance of “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News, Moose placed third place behind Doll and Scorpio. The antlered crooner pulled off his mask to reveal himself as former “Cheers” star and six-time Emmy nominee George Wendt. Panelist Jenny McCarthy correctly guessed the TV star, but Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger were off the mark.
When asked by host Nick Cannon why he decided to appear on the show, George quipped, “I thought maybe I’d win.” He continued, “It is profoundly ridiculous,” while the audience screamed, “Norm!” When asked if he ever gets tired of the reference to his “Cheers” character, he said, “No, I don’t get tired of it is. I was getting tired of Mooose!” His closing remarks were simply, “Let’s go have a beer!

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 7 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired March 29 on Fox.

For Moose, panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg got it right with George Wendt. Robin Thicke went with Jon Lovitz, Nicole Scherzinger named Ed O’Neill and Ken Jeong guessed John Goodman.
As for Scorpio, no one got it right. McCarthy Wahlberg named Denise Richards, Thicke guessed Lisa Rinna. Ken Jeong thought it was Heidi Klum. Nicole Scherzinger picked Willa Ford.

The '85/'86 year was a weird, weird season of "Saturday Night Live," a show that had any number of bad ones. SNL has remained an institution, curiously even through a regular series of slumps and mistakes. Try watching a complete episode during the daylight hours, and one will find a lot of lulls, bad ideas, and weird characters that never caught on. Throughout, however, enough talented comedians and sketches eked their way through to remain entrenched in the consciousness. Plus, celebrities and musical acts seemingly never lost their appetite for guest hosting, often drawing in big crowds just for their star appeal.
The show's 11th season was the first without its co-creator and star producer Lorne Michaels behind the scenes. He was replaced by NBC's Sports executive Dick Ebersol, and he seemingly didn't know what he was doing when it came to comedy. Ebersol once asked NBC if...

Back in 1998 — just in time for Valentine’s Day — The Wedding Singer was released.
