Cassandra Freeman (Bel-Air), Tika Sumpter (Sonic the Hedgehog) and Michaela Watkins (Thanks for Sharing) have joined the “Geena & Friends” program taking place at the upcoming Bentonville Film Festival in Arkansas.
The program, led by Geena Davis and moderated by The Hollywood Reporter contributing editor Stacey Wilson Hunt, takes a unique spin on traditional comedic narratives by reimagining them with an all-female or gender-non-conforming cast. The event is set for June 14 at the Thaden Theater in Bentonville.
“I am thrilled to lead this program that reimagines all-male film narratives with an all-female/gender-non-conforming cast, leading to great humor,” Davis said. “It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase the power of storytelling through laughter and camaraderie. Working alongside such talented individuals as Cassandra Freeman, Tika Sumpter and Michaela Watkins is truly inspiring. I look forward to sharing this unique and transformative experience with everyone.”

Before his Black Panther fame, Chadwick Boseman was a rising actor, proving his mettle as an actor in many of his incredible films. The actor has confidently played three real-life people with great conviction over the years in Get On Up, Marshall, and 42. The latter became his breakthrough film which got Hollywood to get up and take notice.

When it was released in January of 2001, Richard Kelly's bleak time-travel psychological drama "Donnie Darko" caused a notable stir. The title character, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is a teen struggling with schizophrenia in 1988, a time when Reagan's great Conservative revolution was drawing to a close and adults clung to suburban conformity as it crumbled under them. Donnie is obsessed with time-travel and regularly hallucinates a vicious, strange anthropomorphic rabbit monster named Frank (all while attempting to socialize at school and foster a romance with a classmate played by Jena Malone). Patrick Swayze appears as a cheesy self-self guru, Drew Barrymore plays one of Donnie's teachers, and Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Donnie's sister.
By turns psychedelic and weirdly moving (in a Goth sort of way), "Donnie Darko" quickly became a cult hit and rotated directly into the local midnight movie circuit, attracting a wide swath of misfits and night people.

Tokyo Drift was one of the lowest-earning films in the Fast & Furious franchise, but the film gained cult status over the years. It came to be known as one of Justin Lin’s best works in the franchise. Lin took several risks to make an authentic film, which included breaking the law in Japan. However, he had the backing of Universal Studios to avoid facing serious consequences for his lawbreaking.

Justin Lin’s Tokyo Drift moved away from the stories of Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner and focused on Lucas Black’s Sean Boswell. Upon his arrival in Tokyo, Sean gets involved with the city’s illegal drifting community, where he makes both friends and enemies.

The X-Files: Fight the Future (watch it Here). Mulder and Scully on the big screen. That’s it. Need I say more? After 119 episodes, a movie was inevitable. While Chris Carter was happy with the success that the show had generated, he wanted to make more x-philes. Carter saw the movie as an opportunity to reach an even wider audience and make any skeptics true believers, but also reward current fans. Crafting a feature film also meant the ability to be able to dive deeper into the alien mythology that the series had been slowly weaving.
Making the leap from the small screen to the big screen was quite the undertaking. Carter explained that since they had been writing mini-movies, creating a full-length feature film felt like the next logical progression. Juggling the production of 24 episodes for The X-Files and another 24 for the spin-off Millennium was no easy feat. So,...

Actor Paul Walker felt a certain responsibility to stay in The Fast and the Furious franchise. One of his reasons for wanting to do the film was because of the backlash Vin Diesel received for leaving the series behind.

Not even Walker could’ve predicted that Fast and Furious would’ve become the mega-hit it is today. But the actor was a part of the franchise from its beginning, even before the film series had its famous title.

"You're family – they're not in the way, they are the way." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for a band biopic movie called Unsung Hero, which is essentially just one big chunk of marketing for the band anyway. It actually stars one of the band members as his own father, and is also written and directed and produced by him. David Smallbone, his pregnant wife, and their seven children leave Australia to rebuild their lives in America. David and Helen realize the musical talent of their children, who become two of the most successful acts in "Inspirational Music" history. The movie also follows the family's mother, Helen, as she uses her faith to hold the family of nine together by turning struggles into an adventure for her children. Not just a movie about a band, it's also more religious storytelling! Unsung Hero stars Daisy Betts, Joel Smallbone, Kirrilee Berger, Jonathan Jackson,...

When Universal Pictures released The Fast and the Furious in the summer of 2001, no one could have predicted that it would give birth to a franchise that’s grossed over $7 billion worldwide. It’s a juggernaut that’s still got plenty of fuel in the tank, with Fast X making over $700 million worldwide (and counting) while other franchises struggle to keep up.
Here, we look back at the franchise’s early days, when the Fast Saga was still considered low-key, perhaps even low-rent by some, with the movies modestly budgeted and aimed mainly at the youth market. We take a look at the breakout success of The Fast and the Furious, which made stars of its two leads, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, overnight. This led to Diesel bailing on the second film, 2 Fast 2 Furious, which saw Walker’s Brian head to Miami for an adventure that would...

For months now, thanks to the steady drumbeat of both Universal’s ace marketing department and various members of the cast on social media, we have been informed that “Fast X,” the tenth movie in the franchise, is “the beginning of the end of the road.” And that an eleventh film, once again directed by French filmmaker Louis Leterrier (who joined the series after creative differences led to Justin Lin leaving “Fast X” mid-production), is soon on the horizon.
Everybody is back for “Fast X,” from series regulars like Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster and Sung Kang to more recent additions like John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel and Jason Statham, to car-loving characters completely new to the franchise like Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, Jason Momoa (stealing every scene he’s in), Daniela Melchior and, for some reason, Rita Moreno. The "Fast & Furious" franchise has taken quite the ride, growing from a modest "Point Break" riff to globe-trotting espionage, borderline superhero movies (with cars). Along the way, it left the laws of physics in the dust. There are currently 11 "Fast & Furious," the 10 mainline films plus the spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw" — or are there?
Director Justin Lin (who directed five of these eleven films) made himself a household name with 2002's "Better Luck Tomorrow." The film centers on four Asian-American high school students in Orange County, California: overachieving Ben (Parry Shen), his nerdy best friend Virgil (Jason Tobin), Virgil's cool cousin Han (Sung Kang), and valedictorian Daric (Roger Fan). Afflicted with ennui, the four begin committing petty crimes, which escalate to robbery and then murder — the victim is Steve (John Cho), boyfriend of Ben's crush Stephanie (Karin Anna Cheung).

As Dominic Toretto (played with muscle-y esteem by Vin Diesel) once said, "I live my life a quarter-mile at a time." When 2001's "The Fast and the Furious" came out, this sentiment referred to Dom's love of street racing. But on the eve of the premiere of "Fast X," the 10th entry in the series, perhaps Dom should've said he lives his life a quarter-century at a time.
The release of "Fast X" marks 22 glorious years of the "Fast" saga, and as the 25-year mark approaches, it seems that Diesel and company are eager to give their long-running franchise a big, splashy final act. Because the "Fast" films are not based on any pre-existing source material, the journey from each movie to the next has been thrillingly unpredictable as the Torettos and their extended family reach bigger and crazier heights.

"Fast X," which is set to hit theaters on May 19, will mark the beginning of the end of the Fast and Furious franchise. Initially, the series was meant to wrap up with a two-part finale. However, at the "Fast X" premiere in Rome, Italy, on May 12, Vin Diesel, who's led the franchise as Dominic Toretto since 2001, teased the movies could end with a trilogy instead. Although he didn't officially confirm or deny anything, his co-star Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz) fueled the rumors by telling Fandango, "It's three acts in any story."
If it's true, then the series will officially end after 13 movies. Castmembers like Diesel, Rodriguez, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris have starred in the majority of the "Fast and Furious" films, while Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham led the 2019 spinoff film "Hobbs & Shaw." You know, when you think about it, franchises can be a lot like family. The bigger they are, the more likely they are to go off the rails entirely. Of course, there's no more quintessential example of a big-screen family that fits both of these descriptions than Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his Fast Fambly of street racers-turned-superspies. By now, everyone knows that the trajectory of the "Fast & Furious" movies is unlike any other, taking viewers from the seedy streets of Los Angeles' local racing scene to world-ending shenanigans that somehow can only be foiled by one particular team of -- let's call them what they are, folks -- gearhead superheroes.
This major change in the franchise's scale and ambition didn't just happen overnight, however, in the same way that Rome wasn't built in a day. Every film laid its own particular building blocks that would eventually add up...

With 2001's "The Fast and the Furious," a franchise that loves badass (and illegal) street races and fast cars was birthed. We've come a long way since the first film that started it all — since Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) raced together to dodge a fast-approaching train, the stakes have only gotten bigger, with the fate of the franchise's world being at stake. There's something larger-than-life about the increasingly audacious set pieces in the "Fast & Furious" franchise, which loves all vehicles apart from the cars it loves to race, drift, and launch into the air to perform near-impossible stunts. Ludicrous action scenes are thrown into the mix, including an old Pontiac Fiero being hurled into space while two characters are still inside in "F9." How a long-enduring franchise managed to jump from cool-as-heck, ground-level street racing to vehicles crashing into a satellite in space is mind-boggling.

Everyone has to start somewhere and exactly where that place may be is often of pretty dubious quality or (at the very least) rather surprising for some of today’s biggest names in the film industry. For example, we all know Jennifer Aniston had her start with Leprechaun, a film she’d probably rather forget (although we think it’s a lot of fun). Now, with current streaming services pulling all kinds of older films and television shows into their libraries, fans can get the chance to see some of those questionable choices that most likely were made to pay the bills. Here are a few of our favorites:
Elisabeth Moss in Surburban Commando (1991)
While not her very first credit, this is the Mad Men & Handmaid’s Tale star’s first feature film and it’s a doozy. For anyone not familiar with it, it’s an action comedy starring...

Fewer franchises work as hard as "Fast & Furious" when it comes to crafting high-speed soap opera nonsense. Each new entry begs the question: how the hell are they going to top the insanity of what came before? You'll remember that "F9" saw Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej (Ludacris) driving a rocket-fueled Pontiac Fiero into a satellite while in the reaches of outer space. Everyone made jokes, but this team just went ahead and did it (and consulted with NASA rocket scientists to work out the logistics). Naturally, that leaves so much room for the highly-anticipated "Fast X" to take this journey to the next level.
I think it's safe to say that they have, going off of the ludicrous new "Fast X" trailer. For the past few entries, "Fast & Furious" made their trailer releases an entire event. On top of wanting to put on a show for the...

This article contains F9 spoilers.
One thing is for certain about the Fast and Furious film franchise—it has been a wild ride. Other aspects of the Fast Saga are less certain. Although the F9 title definitively labels the latest film as the ninth installment, it’s actually the 10th film. Or the 11th. You could even say the 12th if you include the short film. It depends how you want to count it. For a franchise laden with car chase clichés, the Fast Saga makes a lot of long, winding detours.
Consider how these movies treat death. Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) set the precedent by ‘dying’ back in Fast & Furious (aka Fast & Furious 4) only to return in Fast & Furious 6, working for the other side. Coincidentally, at the end of that film, there was a major reveal about Han (Sung Kang). The character was introduced in...

‘F9’ Film Review: Superheroes and Soap Opera Soaked in Gasoline and Testosterone, and It Still Works
Starting at about the fifth entry in the series, the “Fast and the Furious” saga zoomed past dealing with car thieves and drag races and went right into international-superspy territory. “F9” shows the strategy still succeeding, even if it makes zero sense that a gaggle of car fanatics with shady pasts is all the planet has to protect it from massive global cyberterrorism.
Don’t bother asking why said car fanatics are the only people sent to investigate a plane crash in a foreign country; “F9” won’t be providing answers to that, much less to how and why some of the crew go into actual outer space by the final reel. These films demand that you just roll with the cockamamie plots, and in return, Justin Lin will craft a breathtaking melee of automotive destruction that plays like Wile E. Coyote and M.C. Escher competing in the Cannonball Run.

It was kind of a tragedy to see Lucas Black’s character, Christopher Lasalle, taken out of NCIS: New Orleans, but it’s not the end of his career, that much is obvious. He’s been climbing the ranks since he was a kid and has too much under his belt at this point to just fade away. Plus, there’s still the possibility of seeing him in more than one of the upcoming Fast and Furious movies since one would assume that the crew is going to need as much help as they can. Now that Han is back somehow it’s easy to

The central “Fast and Furious” franchise will come to a conclusion after the 10th and 11th films, Variety has confirmed. Justin Lin, who directed the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth “Fast and Furious” films, will return to direct the final two installments and drive the franchise to the finish line after over two decades in theaters.
This does not, however, necessarily mean that the “Fast and Furious” cinematic universe is coming to an end. While the core storyline following Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and his family of fellow car-enthusiasts-turned-thieves-turned-physics-defying-superheroes will conclude after Lin directs the 11th installment, spin-off movies based on “Fast and Furious” characters are currently in development at Universal.
The first of those endeavors, the creatively titled “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, opened in 2019 and grossed over $759 million worldwide. Just $174 million...

The Fast & Furious franchise is known for death-defying stunts, but perhaps the most dangerous one occurred in the least memorable entry in the series.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is set in Japan and follows an American street racer named Sean Boswell (Lucas Black), who’s ordered to live with his father in the country to avoid serious jail time after an incident in the U.S. It’s far from the franchise’s best outing, but it does have its moments.
Shooting a movie in any major city requires a lot of work including logistics and scouting locations, but before doing any of that, a production must acquire permits from a particular city giving them permission to shoot in certain areas. Japan is an especially hard city to get permits for, but director Justin Lin was adamant that they film in Shibuya, one of the most crowded locations in the country.

The Fast and Furious movies like to say they’re all about “family,” which might be why it’s a prudent move for Universal Pictures to protect its family of fans during a global crisis. Hence Universal made the extraordinary step Thursday to delay Fast & Furious 9, or F9, almost a full 11 months past its original May 22 global launch. The film is now slated to open on April 2, 2021 in both the U.S. and UK.
The move follows in the footsteps of multiple high-profile blockbuster films that have been delayed, one indefinitely. The first indication that Hollywood would significantly change its release calendar due to the mounting global crisis caused by a new strain of coronavirus (Covid-19) came when Eon Productions and MGM pushed Daniel Craig’s final James Bond picture, No Time to Die, off its April release dates and into November. Also on the same day F9 gets pushed,...

Sure, it might not be in the same league as Star Wars or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the franchise as a whole is one of the highest-grossing of all time, and Furious 7 managed to eclipse the likes of The Last Jedi and Age of Ultron in terms of ticket sales.
Still, that’s not the exact reason why fans were celebrating yesterday’s trailer. You see, the video in question (which you can watch for yourself above), revealed that Han, who was thought to have died during the events of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, is, in fact, alive. The first trailer for the ninth “Fast & Furious” movie, dubbed “F9: The Fast Saga,” was full of big surprises. Yeah we’ve got those completely insane action sequences, but we’re here for the plot. And this trailer contained two major twists: that John Cena is, somehow, playing Dominic Toretto’s evil brother, and that Han (Sung Kang) actually did not die in that car crash in Tokyo.
