Ten years ago, "Breaking Bad" concluded one of the best runs in television history in pitch-perfect fashion. The final episode, "Felina," wrapped up Walter White's story in a pretty badass way by having the brilliant teacher-turned-meth-dealer shoot up Uncle Jack and his gang to free Jesse. It paid off a moment from the season's first episode, in which we see Walt buying an M60 machine gun, yet we don't have any idea what he plans to do with it. As it turns out, the writers had absolutely no idea either — at least not at first.
/Film's own Devin Meenan recently spoke with series creator Vince Gilligan in honor of the tenth anniversary of the "Breaking Bad" series finale. During the conversation, they discussed the plotline involving that M60 machine gun. According to Gilligan, they wrote themselves into a corner. This article contains spoilers for Breaking Bad season 5 episode 14 “Ozymandias.”
Breaking Bad’s final season is 10 years old. It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since Walter White’s story came to a close. All of the deceit, violence, plot twists, and puzzling cliffhangers the series provided still occupy a mountain of space in our heads, just begging for yet another rewatch. In the time since the final episodes of the beloved crime drama aired, no show has quite matched the exquisite pacing and pitch-perfect tone of the eight episodes that concluded Walter’s time as the meth kingpin of New Mexico. Still, even amongst an array of masterpiece hours of television in the second half of the show’s fifth and final season, the Rian Johnson-directed epic “Ozymandias” stands tall above all else.

Five years ago, Arrow Video gave a two-disc limited edition Blu-ray release to writer/director Wes Craven’s 1972 feature debut The Last House on the Left. Now they’re set to do the same thing for the 2009 The Last House on the Left remake (watch it Here)! The remake Blu-ray will be released in the US, UK, and Canada on August 22nd, and copies can be pre-ordered from Diabolik.
Directed by Dennis Iliadis from a screenplay by Adam Alleca and Carl Ellsworth, The Last House on the Left (2009) has the following synopsis: The night she arrives at the remote Collingwood lakehouse, Mari and her friend are kidnapped by a prison escapee and his crew. Terrified and left for dead, Mari’s only hope is to make it back to parents John and Emma. Unfortunately, her attackers unknowingly seek shelter at the one place she could be safe. We all have movies that have traumatized us in some way: the ones that are burned into the recesses of our minds, lurking, waiting for the right moment to strike right as you're trying to fall asleep at night. Most people remember the first time they really freaked out because of a movie. For me, it was when I was 5 and Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin pulled their faces off in "Beetlejuice," but for acclaimed writer and director Quentin Tarantino, that movie is an animated classic about a baby deer.
For his new non-fiction book, "Cinema Speculation," Tarantino recently made the press rounds to promote the book and answer questions about his own cinematic history. In his November 2022 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Tarantino revealed that "Bambi" holds a special place for him because it was one of only two movies to ever make him want to run out of the theater.

Did anyone in the mid-‘90s really think that Quentin Tarantino was at risk of being a two-hit wonder? Certainly there wasn’t much reason to expect him to drop as cool and calm a movie as Jackie Brown for his third feature. Jackie Brown turns 25 this Christmas. It still looks and feels like the older sibling to its upstart predecessors, Reservoir Dogs (1992) and Pulp Fiction (1994), singled out among Tarantino’s movies for being more mature and tamped down in its ambitions, less flashy and postmodern than the clever gadgetry of what came before.

With a dime of films under his belt, the debate regarding which Quentin Tarantino film is his best rages on. With such a wide spectrum of subgenres and influences on display in his work, assessing Tarantino's filmography comes down to a matter of subjective taste, but real ones know that "Jackie Brown" should always be in contention for the top spot.
The film sees Pam Grier in the titular role, a flight attendant who is busted smuggling funds for her arms dealer boss, Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). Two law enforcement agents (Michael Keaton and Michael Bowen) attempt to enlist her to help bring him down, threatening her with jail time if she chooses not to. Unfortunately, Robbie isn't someone who takes betrayal kindly, and turning him in could mean being killed for her participation. Jackie Brown instead decides to double-cross them both, taking the smuggled money for herself...

Pam Grier and Samuel L Jackson are explosively good in this stylish crime thriller, with superb supporting turns from Robert Forster, Robert De Niro and Bridget Fonda
Quentin Tarantino’s third film is now revived in cinemas for its 25th anniversary, an impossibly stylish and exciting race-swapped adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s 1992 crime thriller Rum Punch. It’s a quasi-blaxploitation homage featuring a glorious central performance from Pam Grier as Jackie, the tough flight attendant importing gun-running profits into the US in her tote bag.
Brown figures she can keep all the money by outsmarting her ruthlessly violent associate Ordell Robbie (Samuel L Jackson), whose grisly criminal court includes ex-cellmate Louis Gara (Robert De Niro) and space-cadet girlfriend Melanie (Bridget Fonda), and also law enforcement (in the form of Michael Keaton and Michael Bowen) with whom she is pretending to work undercover. But she finds herself encountering the equally tough,...

The question of whether Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul would appear in “Better Call Saul” has loomed over the prequel series ever since its inception. And while co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have remained coy about the possibility of that crossover, the masterminds behind “Better Call Saul” told Variety at the final season premiere that the worlds do, indeed, crossover.
As Gilligan said, “It would be a damn shame if the show ended without [Cranston and Paul] appearing, would it not?” He later added, “You heard it here first.”
With its sixth and final season premiering on April 18, “Better Call Saul” takes place before the events of “Breaking Bad.” But as the hit AMC spinoff series nears the timeline of its predecessor, Gould says, “If it’s ever going to happen, this is when these two shows start crossing over.”

Anyone living under a rock over the past eight months, blissfully unaware that the country mismanaged the coronavirus outbreak and caused thousands of unnecessary deaths, would do well to watch “Totally Under Control.” Churned out by prolific documentarian Alex Gibney with co-directors Suzanne Hillinger and Ophelia Harutyunyan over the last few months, this infuriating overview of the government’s response to the virus isn’t revelatory or groundbreaking, but
“Totally Under Control” is far from the first documentary to tackle coronavirus fallout (recent efforts “76 Days” and Ai Weiwei’s “Coronation” reveal the struggle inside Wuhan), but it’s the first serious assessment outside of nightly news shows to illustrate how much America bungled its response. Gibney and his collaborators fold in a lot of material into two hours, from the tick-tock of CDC efforts to downplay the virus and Donald Trump’s lunacy in conflicting science at every turn,...

A feature-length version of the kind of montage that usually opens a dystopian thriller about a post-apocalyptic society, “Totally Under Control” is a terrifying and infuriating examination of the rise of the Covid-19 virus and of the many ways in which the U.S. government intentionally failed its citizens. As one of the film’s many experts notes, public health didn’t fail the people; the government’s decision to ignore public health warnings and standards made the current crisis happen.
Directors Alex Gibney (“Going Clear”), Ophelia Harutyunyan, and Suzanne Hillinger (“How to Fix an Election”) have made the kind of historical document that future scholars will consult to get an idea of the impact of the pandemic on the United States and on the rest of the world, but watching it right now is akin to viewing a meta-horror film like “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare,” whereby the audience understands that...

"Afer all these years, after everything we've done...!" Saddle up, folks! Well Go USA has revealed an official trailer for a western action thriller titled A Soldier's Revenge, the latest feature from veteran producer / filmmaker Michael Feifer. Formerly known as Soldier's Heart, the film is about a Civil War soldier-turned-bounty-hunter living out his days on whiskey. Two kids show up and request his help to find their missing mother, so Frank must finally face his past in order to take down the notorious Major Briggs, with whom he has a score all his own to settle. Starring Neal Bledsoe, Rob Mayes, AnnaLynne McCord, Val Kilmer, Jake Busey, Michael Bowen, Jay Pickett, Michael Welch, and James Russo. Just like all those old movies where the big name actor is barely in it, and the rest of the movie looks boring as hell. Lock 'n load. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster...

(Spoiler alert: Do not read this post if you have not watched “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.”)
“El Camino” ends with Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) taking care of one final piece of business. Or at least, he enlists fixer Ed to finish the job.
When the vacuum-shop owner drops Jesse off in Alaska to start anew, the free former meth cook hands Ed a “goodbye” letter. Though not privy to its contents, the audience catches a glimpse of the name on the envelope: Brock Cantillo.
In case that name doesn’t jump out at you, allow us to refresh your memory. Brock Cantillo (played by Ian Posada) is the young child of Jesse’s girlfriend from “Breaking Bad” Seasons 3-5, Andrea (Emily Rios).
When we — and Jesse — first met Andrea and her son, Brock was 6 years old. He should be about 8 now by the time Ed makes it to the Mexico City post office.

“El Camino” is primarily concerned with what happened to Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) after he escaped his months-long captivity under Todd Alquist (Jesse Plemons) and his Uncle Jack’s (Michael Bowen) gang of Nazis. But the “Breaking Bad” sequel film, which debuted on Netflix (and in a small number of theaters) Friday, also featured many callbacks to characters that didn’t make it out of Vince Gilligan’s meth drama alive.
The biggest of them, of course, comes towards the end of the film during a flashback scene that reunited Paul with his “Breaking Bad” co-star Bryan Cranston, who played high school chemistry teacher-turned-drug kingpin Walter White.

Breaking Bad sequel TV movie El Camino released a new trailer containing potentially crucial information about Walter White.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie is expected to answer the lingering questions of fans, picking up directly after the climactic events in that show’s swan song, “Felina,” which aired on AMC on September 29, 2013. However, it seems that the newest teaser trailer for the Netflix film just went and dropped the answer to what is, perhaps, the biggest of said lingering (we daresay tinfoil hat level) questions regarding the (some say ambiguous) series finale fate of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White – albeit in a subtle, Easter-egg-esque manner.
The Emmys night El Camino teaser trailer immediately assuages a major desire for Breaking Bad fans, since it provides the first post-Felina look at Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman, who’s still just as we last saw him, in the...

One of the oldies celebrated by lovers of ’80s fare, Martha Coolidge’s ode to pampered teens in La La Land has aged extremely well. It’s still fairly representative of reality, but the romantic fairy tale angle is what keeps it afloat. Nicolas Cage’s unguarded vulnerability and Deborah Foreman’s infectious smile win the day — we like these kids, even if they’re somewhat idealized.

Despite his output being less than prolific, I’ve been a huge fan of director Adam Gierasch for years – ever since I saw Autopsy and his stellar remake of Night of the Demons (one of the “good” remakes, even though the original is a stone-cold classic). House by the Lake is only his third feature since those films, though he was a part of the portmanteau Tales of Halloween in 2015. Surprisingly, unlike the rest of his oeuvre this film is the first Gierasch has directed that he hasn’t written – and it shows. House by the Lake is unlike any of his other films; feeling very much like a low-budget family drama instead of the usual balls to the wall horror Gierasch is associated with.

Random Media turns a picturesque retreat into a destination of terror in House By The Lake, the latest film from veteran genre scribe Adam Gierasch (Night of the Demons, Tales of Halloween, Fractured, Autopsy), with a script by newcomer Josh Burnell.
A struggling couple, Scott and Karen, pack up their troubled young daughter and head to a picturesque lake house to reconnect and put their problems behind them. As Emma spends time with her new nanny, the little girl begins fixating on an imaginary friend she calls the Fish Man. Karen’s fear of the strange man down the beach, Emma’s fear of the water and her recurring sleepwalking continue to raise tensions in the house and drive a wedge between Scott and Karen until one night Emma disappears. When she’s found breathing underwater in the tub, Emma insists she’s been with the Fish Man. And he’s coming back for her.

The term “deconstruction” tends to be one that confuses a lot of people and with good reason. If you look at the word itself, you might think, as most people do, that it means to pull something apart piece by piece—to analyse it, really.
When theorists use the term, however, they are talking about something else. When they throw it out there, they aren’t really talking about what the reader or viewer is doing when they look at a text, but what the text does to itself. Holy cupcake fight club, Batman! This week’s Gotham episode was quite possibly its best episode yet, due to the fact that it finally addressed the ‘who killed the Waynes?’ mystery head on. After two years of waiting, David Mazouz has finally got to portray Bruce Wayne with a real human dilemma – what to do now that he’s found the killer.
This Ball Of Mud And Meanness' centrepiece was the dialogue-focused showdown between Bruce and Matches Malone (impressive guest star Michael Bowen). In this scene, Mazouz delivered a nuanced and troubled performance which should serve to banish any lingering doubts that he isn’t perfect for the role of young Bruce Wayne.

"Breaking Bad" veteran Michael Bowen and "Orange is the New Black" actress Lori Petty have both joined the cast of Fox's "Gotham" for the second half of its second season.
Bowen will take on the role of Matches Malone, the character claimed to be the killer of Thomas and Martha Wayne in earlier episodes this season. This version will paint him as one of the city's deadliest killers.
Petty will play Jeri, a mysterious and extroverted hostess at a dangerous club who helps Bruce in seeking out his parents' killer. At present her role, which sounds like a variation of Veronica 'Roulette' Sinclair, is only one episode.
The remainder of the season kicks off on February 29th.

Following on from the news that Breaking Bad's Michael Bowen has joined the cast of Gotham season 2 as Matches Malone, Variety reports that Tank Girl herself, Lori Petty, will also be making a guest appearance as Jeri. Though this is probably a new character created just for the show, the description provided by Variety does make it sound like she could well be an incarnation of Roulette. "The flamboyant and enigmatic hostess of an underground club where mass murder and art are celebrated in equal measure, Jeri gives clues to Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) during his hunt for his parents’ killer, but she and her gang of merry maniacs are less helpful when Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) comes calling." Following last night’s news that Michael Bowen has been added to the cast of Gotham season 2 as Matches Malone, Variety reports that we’ll also see Lori Petty debut as a club hostess named Jeri when the Batman prequel series returns in early 2016.
From the sounds of things, the Tank Girl actress (last seen as Lolly on Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black) will not be playing an established DC Comics character, but then again, it’s always possible that’s exactly what she’ll turn out to be.
Here’s how Variety describes Jeri.
The flamboyant and enigmatic hostess of an underground club where mass murder and art are celebrated in equal measure, Jeri gives clues to Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) during his hunt for his parents’ killer, but she and her gang of merry maniacs are less helpful when Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) comes calling.

When Silver St. Cloud mentioned that “M. Malone” was responsible for the death of Thomas and Martha Wayne (whether or not that’s true remains to be seen), Gotham fans instantly knew who she was talking about.
In the comic books, Matches Malone was a small time crook who had an in with pretty much every gang in in the city. However, when he died, Batman covered the death up and adopted the identity of Matches Malone. He did so in order to be able to go undercover and gain insight on what his foes are up to, and while the whole thing bordered on being a bit silly at times, it’s a persona Bruce Wayne has made good use of over the years; he even had himself thrown in prison at one point.
