The revival of Frasier at Paramount+ is bringing in more faces from its title character’s past.
Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert will reprise their roles as, respectively, Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe and Gil Chesterton, Frasier Crane’s (Kelsey Grammer) former co-workers at the Seattle radio station in the original Frasier series, which ran on NBC from 1993-2004. Details on how they come back into Frasier’s life are being kept quiet for now.
“Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert have made an indelible contribution to television, and I am overjoyed to welcome them back to Frasier and for the opportunity to work together once again,” Grammer said in a statement.
Peri Gilpin (who guest-starred in the revival’s first season finale) will reprise her role as Roz in the coming season, where she’ll recur. Patricia Heaton — who starred with Grammer in Fox’s Back to You in 2007-08 — Yvette Nicole Brown,...

25 years ago “Strangers with Candy,” currently streaming on Paramount+, premiered on Comedy Central from the brains of Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello, Mitch Rouse, and Amy Sedaris. Sedaris also starred as Jerri Blank, the 46-year-old bisexual junkie returning to high school as a freshman. The sitcom was structured like an after-school special with Jerri rarely learning from her past mistakes as she navigates the lessons of being a teenager all over again. I began watching the show in college, after recognizing it from flipping through the TV channels because Sedaris’ Jerri in passing freaked me out.
Its psychotic humor coupled with my own favorite genre — the high school comedy — was a perfect cyanide comedy cocktail. Aggressively offensive with an earnest heart of gold, “Strangers with Candy” was unlike anything I’d ever seen before and Amy Sedaris became my comedy hero.

Paul Giamatti is the everyman kind of celebrity where even though he’s an actor who has worked in big films amongst big stars, he will still go to In-N-Out Burger to celebrate an awards win. During the pandemic, when Zoom communication skyrocketed, Giamatti found a peer in Stephen Asma, an author and philosophy professor at Columbia College Chicago. Giamatti sought out the professor after being intrigued by his lectures about imagination and consciousness. He explained, “We were Zooming when Zoom was a new thing. Like everyone else during the pandemic, Paul Giamatti found solace on Zoom. The veteran actor caught an online talk presented by Stephen Asma, an author and philosophy professor at Columbia College Chicago. Giamatti liked what Asma had to say about imagination and consciousness, so he did what any well-connected fan would do and reached out.
“We were Zooming when Zoom was a new thing. It was nice to chat with this guy, and we found each other having these longer and longer chats,” says Giamatti during a rare break from his best actor Oscar campaign for his role in Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers. “Stephen jokingly said, ‘We ought to do something with this.’ ” The joke then turned serious. To craft their pitch, they sent one of their chats to visual artist Alex Sokol, who added animation and striking images to represent things they bantered about, like aliens, UFOs and bigfoot.

If your idea of a laugh riot is a high-school dreamboat being separated from his penis by an axe while treacly ‘80s classic “On the Wings of Love” soars on the soundtrack, then Lisa Frankenstein might be for you. So long as your frame of reference doesn’t go as far back as Edward Scissorhands. Diablo Cody’s screenplay about a maladjusted teen who finds a sense of purpose by bonding with a reanimated corpse delivers enough funny lines to make you want to cut it some slack for a minute. But Zelda Williams’ clunky direction soon stifles that good will as this retro-minded horror-comedy-romance lurches from scene to scene without ever building much steam.

It’s a chilly Sunday night in Manhattan’s West Village and somehow the hottest ticket in town involves a sexually repressed Abraham Lincoln, hoop skirts, and comedian Cole Escola in a wildly convincing nineteenth-century wig.
There’s a line down the block outside the Lucille Lortel Theatre, and inside, the energy builds as patrons make their way through packed halls and walkways to their seats. Queer isn’t just a vibe here, it’s built into the streets — just three blocks from the Stonewall Inn — etched into the gold stars on the sidewalk,...

Screenwriter Diablo Cody says she’s interested in rebooting the 2009 cult horror comedy, Jennifer’s Body. “I never lost my passion for that world,” she says.
Diablo Cody’s returning to the horror comedy genre this year with Lisa Frankenstein, directed by Zelda Williams. As its name implies, it’s another modern spin on Mary Shelley’s gothic tale, with Kathryn Newton starring as a young woman who revives the corpse of a Victorian gentleman and proceeds to turn the creature into her ideal lover.
In an interview with Deadline, Cody has revealed – perhaps half-jokingly – that Lisa Frankenstein takes place “in the same universe” as her earlier horror comedy, Jennifer’s Body, released in 2009. There won’t be any obvious nods to that film, though, so it sounds as though this is something Cody had in the back of her mind as she was writing rather than a concerted attempt to create a franchise.

Diablo Cody returned to the horror-comedy genre with Lisa Frankenstein and is now declaring that her previous film, Jennifer’s Body, takes place in the same universe.
“I am just declaring that this movie takes place in the same universe,” Cody told Deadline during the premiere of Lisa Frankenstein. “I have decided that. I will not say that you’d see any overt references to that but I’m saying it.”
Jennifer’s Body is a 2009 horror comedy that Cody wrote starring Megan Fox in the titular role. The film follows a high school student who becomes demonically possessed following a sacrifice and kills her classmates to eat their flesh in order to survive. Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons, J.K. Simmons, Amy Sedaris and Adam Brody also starred.

It’s that time of year where critics, film buffs, and awards prognosticators come together and search for a consensus on what were “the best films” from the previous year. It’s already begun with the Golden Globes this past weekend and the Critics Choice Awards coming in the next. Perhaps more than most years, the frontrunners for “the best picture” prizes are obvious too.
That is all well and good, but sometimes attempting to find a consensus (or at least a horse race winner) deprives us from acknowledging our true favorites; films that you or I might have loved and are convinced no one else in the world has seen. These are the pictures that may not be “the best,” but they are favorites for our staff, and we’d like you to consider giving them a chance. Also feel free to shout out your own choices in the comments section below.

It’s so hard to get a genuine moment of men being men on television these days. One of the only corners of genuine honesty and surface-level fun on TV was tuning in on New Year’s Eve to see favorite network anchors loosened up and drinking booze alongside viewers waiting for the ball drop in New York City. At least that’s how it was on CNN until last year. Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper, known for getting sloshed during their Nye hosting duties, hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast sober last year due to network restrictions on on-air drinking. Special guests, including John Stamos and Amy Sedaris, playfully teased the hosts about their alcohol-free celebration. Meanwhile, Kevin Hart, who was live in Las Vegas, took a shot in solidarity with Cohen and Cooper. This came after a controversial moment during the 2021 broadcast when Cohen referred to...

Where have all the comedies gone? Think about that and sing it to yourself to the tune of Paula Cole's "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?" We used to be a proper country, inundated with the works of filmmakers like Judd Apatow, Adam McKay, and Paul Feig, starring big name talent like Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Melissa McCarthy, and Jason Segel, just to name a few of the actors who led big studio comedies that were hitting the big screen left and right. Sadly, times have changed, and it's hard to find a successor to "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," the next "Superbad" or "Bridesmaids," or even another "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."
This year alone, you'd be hard-pressed to find movies that are just straight up comedies. Sure, "Barbie" is incredibly funny, but it's not your average straight-up comedy. "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves...

Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman have made watching bad acting a thrill in this zippy and joke-filled film about jazz-handing theatre kids
There is a lot of bad acting, in a good way, in Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s deeply charming and very funny mockumentary, set at a theatre camp in upstate New York. Gordon and Ben Platt play two teachers who met at the camp years ago and became best friends. Just as the summer’s cohort of jazz-handing theatre kids is about to descend, the camp’s redoubtable owner (Amy Sedaris) is dazzled by strobe lights and goes into a coma. This leaves the entire operation in the hands of her tech-bro son (Jimmy Tatro), who drawls that he’s “never really vibed” with the camp, but is just about bright enough to realise it’s in deep trouble with the bank.
As he tries to sort out the mess,...

A genuinely hilarious film that authentically captures the intricacies of the art of theater, "Theater Camp" is a must-watch for those who have an affinity towards comedy and on-stage theatrics that ensure that the show must, indeed, go on.
This Searchlight Pictures comedy delves deeper into the world of arts-adjacent summer camps and the absolute chaos that is often inherent in these experiences, served with a side of genuine emotion that tugs at the heartstrings.
