Originally released in 2003, “Oldboy” tells the story of a man who is kidnapped and held prisoner in a sealed hotel room for 15 years. He is suddenly released with no explanation, only to learn he has five days to discover why he was imprisoned or face the consequences.

With Nam Joo-Hyuk enlisted in the military, we were under the impression that we’d have to wait two whole years to see him again, but here we have a new TV show with the actor as the leading man. The actor is known for his slice-of-life roles that are both adorable and emotional, and he does a fantastic job of balancing pain and humor that really makes you root for him, whatever the role may demand. The actor’s last show was Twenty-Five Twenty-One, which was widely beloved, even though the ending received a lot of backlash for being too realistic. Vigilante will see the mostly romantic actor in a completely new light, and we’re excited to see him try something new. The show is based on a webtoon of the same name and follows a very “Batman” tale, where a young man sets out to take revenge...

In the years at the start of the Korean New Wave, a number of titles from the country broke out that showed the wider audience what the cinema of the country was capable of in an all-round fashion. One genre that the filmmakers there have always been rather proficient at is the romantic melodrama and works like “Christmas in August” reiterated the same at the start of the New Wave. However, in 2000 came “Ditto”, a “science-fiction” romance that was unlike something the South Korea had produced before, a feature that went on to be a big hit with the audience. The story, a high-concept romance which connects two people in different eras through a ham radio, resonated with and is much loved by audiences and storytellers alike, so much so that 22 years later, we get a modern day namesake retelling from “Go Back” director Seo Eun-young.

Twenty years after it premiered in South Korea and 19 years after a Cannes Film Festival jury headed by Quentin Tarantino gave it the Grand Prix award, Park Chan-wook‘s “Oldboy” is returning to theaters on August 16 via a pristine new 4K restoration overseen by the director himself. A philosophically dense meditation on the purposes and limitations of vengeance filled with bravura filmmaking moments — the most famous of which is an unbroken shot detailing a brutal fight in which the film’s hero takes on an army of enemies with a hammer — the film’s greatness was recognized almost immediately by critics and audiences, and its reputation has only grown in the decades since.

Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is a South Korean remake of the Spanish hit, La Casa de Papel, starring Park Hae-soo (Squid Game).
The series is directed by Kim Hong-sun (Luca).
Plot
The story takes off in an era when North and South Korea are reunited. A professor gathers a group of talented thieves from both regions to carry out a heist of the recently minted coin.
About the Series
In the recently added episodes we are offered more action than in its predecessor, and a more elaborate production. However, it does not impress in its premise that is quite similar, perhaps, too much.
Ideal for thriller and action fans. This Netflix series is now in its second season.

Neon has acquired North American and UK rights to the horror-drama Handling the Undead, marking the narrative feature debut of Thea Hvistendahl, who previously directed the documentary Adjø Montebello and several short films, including the SXSW Grand Jury Award-nominated Virgins4lyfe. The project reteams the distributor with Renate Reinsve and Anders Danielsen Lie, who starred in its Oscar-nominated romantic drama The Worst Person in the World, directed by Joachim Trier.
Handling the Undead picks up on an abnormally hot summer day in Oslo, as a strange electric field surrounds the city, with a collective migraine spreading across town. TVs, lightbulbs and electronics go haywire, the chaos reaching a debilitating crescendo when suddenly, it’s over.
The film currently in production is based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, the renowned writer of bestselling horror novels and the screenplays Border and Let the Right One In, who co-wrote the script with Hvistendahl.

Neon has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Park Chan-wook’s cult action classic “Oldboy” and will re-release it theatrically in U.S. theaters ahead of the film’s 20th anniversary next year.
“Oldboy” is Chan-wook’s famously brutal and stylized action and revenge story about a man finally released 15 years after being kidnapped and imprisoned, only to find that he must find his captor within five days. The film is famous for its punishing fight scene through a narrow corridor in which the protagonist fights off a crowded room full of thugs with a hammer and with a knife in his back, not to mention its shocking twist ending.
Neon has yet to disclose any specific release plans for “Oldboy,” but the film has been restored and remastered in 4K Hdr as supervised by Chan-wook.

This Money Heist: Korea article contains spoilers.
The breakout success of Money Heist took the world by storm. The original series, known as La Casa de Papel (The House of Paper) had been cancelled after it was first televised in Spain. But when Netflix picked the show up, it became a surprise hit, and blossomed into a global phenomenon that earned numerous prestigious awards and captured the title of Netflix’s second most watched series behind only Squid Game.
After the original series concluded in 2021, a Korean redux series was announced. For Netflix, it’s a no brainer – have the nation that produced the first most watched series redo the second most watched series. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is a mostly faithful adaptation of Álex Pina’s crime drama La Casa de Papel — you may know it as Money Heist, which aired from 2017 to 2021 and went from semi-successful Spanish TV series to global Netflix phenomenon. Once again, a bespectacled and somewhat squirrelly braniac named “the Professor” (Oldboy‘s Yoo Ji-tae) gathers together a motley crew of criminals and masterminds a heist at a national mint. This isn’t stealing from people, he explains, since they’re going to print new money and redistribute that wealth to,...

Half a year ago, one of Netflix’s largest international series — Spain’s “La Casa De Papel” — wrapped its fifth and final season in a blaze of agonizing glory. Now, fans who are missing out on thrills, red jumpsuits and masks galore can rejoice in the streamer’s Korean remake, “Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area,” which debuted a main teaser unraveling a bit of the fan-favorite robbers’ motives.
The trailer traces the origins of the Joint Economic Area, a fictionalized mint located where present-day North and South Korea are divided. While the aim of reunification is to benefit all citizens and establish a common currency, “in reality, only the rich got richer,” the trailer’s narrator says.
“Welcome to capitalism,” Tokyo (Jeon Jong-seo) grimly adds.

A crew of thieves including Tokyo, an ex-soldier, unite under the leadership of a mastermind known as the Professor to plan an unprecedented heist – stealing money yet to exist! If that sounds familiar, it should.
The twist is that Netflix hit series La Casa De Papel (Money Heist) has been given a cool Korean favor.
First-look footage is now available. And the K-drama reinterpretation “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area Part 1” premieres from June 24.
The plot twist is that Korea is on the verge of unification and there is a Joint Security Area – located where today’s North and South Korea are divided – which contains a mint that becomes the focus of the action.
Amid the reunification process, the mint is printing a new unified currency as the groundwork to build a stable joint economy. But despite people’s hopes for unification it seems that only the rich got richer.

A cold, snow-laden morning. Two friends meet each other after an extended period of time and after exchanging banalities in a long-take scene, they head over to have something to eat and drink. Straight away, you know you are in a Hong Sang-soo film, who is once again writing and directing for his fifth feature and the third to be screened at Cannes.
“Woman is the Future of Man” is streaming on Mubi

Or at least that's what it attempts to do, as this blatant ripoff of the work of director Choi Dong-hoon (Tazza: The High Rollers, The Thieves) is a grating star vehicle that smacks of smug ineptitude and a whole lot of cut corners. After swindling countless unsuspecting victims, a master con man disappears with a huge fortune and when the prosecution fails to track him down they write him off as dead.
