Exclusive: Marvin Jones III (Halo), Michael Xavier (Wild Cards) and Dominic Burgess (Palm Royale) have joined the cast of Prime Video‘s graphic novel series, Criminal, in recurring roles. They join the previously announced leads: Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, Kadeem Hardison and Logan Browning.
Criminal is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series created by Brubaker and Sean Phillips.
Jones III will play Chester, crime boss Sebastian Hyde’s (John Hawkes) fearsome chief enforcer. Much like a seven-foot-tall man becoming a basketball player whether he likes it or not, Chester was drafted into the criminal life for his size and fearsomeness. He’s no sadist, relying on his reputation and intelligence to get his way. He speaks softly most of the time, but the threat of sudden and deadly violence is always there.

Olivia Colman is in line for another successful awards season as her guest performance in FX’s “The Bear” looks set to snag her another Emmy nomination. The FX on Hulu show follows Jeremy Allen White as a chef who leaves the world of fine dining behind in order to help run his family’s sandwich shop in Chicago.
The show is packed full of superb guest spots from major names, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Sarah Paulson, Will Poulter, and Bob Odenkirk. But it’s Colman who perhaps has the best guest spot. She plays British executive chef Terry, who works at Ever, the fine dining restaurant where Ebon Moss-Bachrach‘s Richie stages.
Colman features as Terry in episode seven of season two, titled “Forks,” and critics agree that she was a standout.

On June 11, “America’s Got Talent” season 19 continued with the third installment of audition episodes. In this initial stage of the competition, each judge is given two “golden buzzer” decisions to make where they can send an act straight through to the live shows. During “Auditions 3,” Sofia Vergara differed from the other judges because the Malambo dance of Legion was not new to her as a South American, but still they were “spectacular” enough to earn her top prize. Watch the full performance in the video above.
The men of Legion explained to the judges that they are an Argentinian Malambo company that rehearses their dance routines extracurricularly to their “real jobs.” With the money should they win, they told Simon Cowell they want their own studio because they’ve been preparing in the backyard of a members’ parents backyard. If you have a thing for old-fashioned action movies, mainly the ones where a single good guy takes on the entire bad world, Life After Fighting must have been a lot of fun for you. Australian actor and martial artist Bren Foster’s directorial debut (where he also stars in the lead role) is far from a perfect action movie. It is a bit too long, and the editing is weak; in fact, there’s a whole subplot the movie could have done away with. But the final hour of it is action-movie lovers’ wet dream, and that’s what counts. Life After Fighting has a straightforward narrative and a very comprehensive ending. In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at it, especially the bloodied, action-packed climax, which is clearly the main deal.

Matt Damon has been one of the most famous actors in Hollywood since his Good Will Hunting days. But he felt there were other actors like Johnny Depp who were a bit more well-known than he was. Damon didn’t think this was a bad thing, however.

Damon has known what it’s like to be in the spotlight for decades, now. And although he’s used to it now, becoming famous took a bit of an adjustment period for the actor. In an interview with People, Damon shared that he felt fortunate having Affleck around to deal with his growing stardom.

Despite what confused non-fans on the internet say, the series finale of "Lost" is actually pretty straightforward. "I'm real. You're real. Everything that's happened to you is real," an afterlife limbo version of Jack's dad, Christian, tells him as the mystery of season 6's "flash-sideways" begins to come together. "All those people in the church, they're all real too," Christian says, explaining that the bulk of the show actually happened years earlier, and now, these characters have found one another in a collective afterlife. It's simple: everything's real, even and perhaps especially death.
This is a heartfelt message that got driven home a bit too hard during filming on "The End," when something else — a prop knife — turned out to be real, too. “We have to do something,” says one of the many shadowy extremists who populate the fringes of Mike Ott’s tense drama McVeigh, a condensed account of the events that led Timothy McVeigh, an Iraq war veteran, to blow up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma on April 19, 1995, killing 168 people and injuring 680 more. His close ties to white supremacist Richard Snell, a convicted murderer put to death by lethal injection that same day, might — reasonably — lead one, and especially people of color, to wonder why this man needs the oxygen of publicity, nearly 23 years after his own execution. But Ott’s film is a rare study of the radicalization of white working-class Americans, a phenomenon that went overground in Washington DC on January 6, 2021.
Ott carefully keeps us at arm’s length from his subject at all times, and his direction makes that clear from the outset. When we’re not following McVeigh,...

Ms. Pat could never be June Cleaver. Nor does she have to be. That point is made in the very first episode of The Ms. Pat Show’s recently released eight-episode fourth season. During her signature stand-up routine kicking off each episode of the BET+ series (the comedy is based on its star’s stand-up material), Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams offers poignant and biting commentary on television’s yesteryear.
Styled from head to toe in the look of the time, punctuated by a circle skirt, the episode fades to black and white as the fictional Ms. Pat and her TV family — sons Brandon (Vince Swann) and Junebug (Theodore Barnes), daughters Janelle (Briyana Guadalupe) and Ashley (Brittany Inge), husband Terry (J. Bernard Calloway), and sister Denise (Tami Roman) — try to adapt to that era. But as both pregnancy and race, two topics Leave It to Beaver and its ilk never addressed,...

“America’s Got Talent” season 19 continued Tuesday, June 4 with another two-hour episode of first-round auditions. Once again, this season’s hopefuls are judged by executive producer Simon Cowell on one end of the dais and Howie Mandel on the other. Seated in the middle are Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara, with Terry Crews on stage as the lively host.
In the audition phase of “AGT,” an act needs at least three of the four judges to give them a “yes” vote to advance to the next round. If two or more judges buzz the act, they are immediately eliminated. For the first time ever, each judge has not one, but two chances to hit the “golden buzzer” and send an act straight through to the live performances. Terry had one chance of his own, totaling nine acts overall that will earn the special path to the final phase of the competition.

Elizabeth MacRae, who played girlfriends of Gomer Pyle and Festus Haggen on television and a woman who seduces Gene Hackman’s surveillance expert in The Conversation, has died. She was 88.
MacRae died Monday in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she was raised, her family announced.
MacRae showed up as Lou-Ann Poovie on 15 episodes of the CBS comedy Gomer Pyle: Usmc during its final three seasons (1966-69). She was signed to work just one episode, “Love’s Old Sweet Song,” on the Jim Nabors starrer but impressed producers enough to stick around for more.
Earlier, she portrayed April Clomley, the girlfriend of deputy marshal Festus (Ken Curtis), on CBS’ Gunsmoke on four installments from 1962-64.
In The Conversation (1974), written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, MacRae played Meredith, who dances with Hackman’s Harry Caul in his apartment, sleeps with him and then swipes one of his audiotapes. The actress was among...

In the audition phase of “AGT,” an act needs at least three of the four judges to give them a “yes” vote to advance to the next round. If two or more judges buzz the act, they are immediately eliminated. For the first time ever, each judge not one, but two chances to hit the “golden buzzer” and send an act straight through to the live performances. Terry has one chance of his own, totaling nine acts overall that will earn the special path to the final phase of the competition.

I’ve experienced a rare thing with regards to David Cronenberg’s latest film, The Shrouds, particularly during festival time. As it’s a Canadian film, one of several that premiered this year in Cannes, I got to screen it a few days before flying to France.

Did you ever wonder what your favorite stars did before they were famous?
Although there are a few rare exceptions, most celebrities did not start as stars. They had standard jobs just like the rest of us.
Some even had extremely unusual jobs. Here are eleven examples.
Harrison Ford Was a Carpenter
You would be hard-pressed to find a person alive who doesn't know who Harrison Ford is.
The iconic actor starred in some of the most popular films ever, including the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.
The star of 1923 and Shrinking turned 81 on July 13, 2024, but he seems to have no intention of slowing down. That's no surprise since he has been a hard worker for his entire life.

Pirates of the Caribbean has explored some interesting and uncharted territories under Johnny Depp’s reign as Captain Jack Sparrow. The movies were filled with various elements and themes all resonating the feelings of fun, thrill, and excitement. All five films were loved in one way or another, even though not all had as strong a box office run as others.

There were many ideas explored and those that could never make it from concepts to paper. Although a 6th installment is in the works, Depp’s involvement is less than likely. As such, there were many ideas he too wanted to explore that still remain untouched. Having done so many different films in the franchise, there was one concept in particular the actor wanted to explore. One that may never happen, or occur in the absence of Depp.

David Cronenberg always makes personal cinema, whether telepodding Jeff Goldblum into a human-sized pest in “The Fly” or asking James Spader to fuck a gaping flesh wound in “Crash.” The Canadian filmmaker will never tell you what makes his body horror classics so close to home, but he doesn’t feel it should matter to viewers anyway.
“For an average audience, they shouldn’t have to know that,” Cronenberg, behind oversized Saint Laurent sunglasses, told IndieWire at Cannes on a windy day atop the Jw Marriott. “They shouldn’t have to know that it has any basis in my reality at all. The movie has to stand on its own, and you can’t expect the audience to give you credit because it’s really happened to you.”
But his latest film “The Shrouds,” his seventh to compete for the Palme d’Or at Cannes and a co-production of fashion house Saint Laurent,...

David Cronenberg’s films have often imagined a future where technology would find a way into our collective id. 55 years into the director’s incomparable career, might that future have finally caught up with him? In Cronenberg’s new film––the slick, scrambled The Shrouds––there are two barely speculative conceits: that an AI chatbot could be designed to look like a recently deceased love one; and primarily, that a company might have the bright idea to wrap a blanket of HD cameras around our nearest and dearest before they’re sent six-feet-under, allowing us to check in on their decaying corpse, all with the click of an app.
If that sounds a little unambitious by the Canadian’s standards, the director––whose wife of 43 years, Carolyn, died in 2017 after a battle with cancer––has his reasons. If “grief is forever,” as the director said before the premiere in Cannes,...

“The Crown” can only play a pair of Queens at the Emmys.
Emmy winner Olivia Colman, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth in the series finale episode of Netflix’s monarchy drama, is not eligible to submit in the guest drama actress race by only a few seconds. However, her co-star Claire Foy, who also portrays Her Majesty in her younger years and appears in the same episode, is eligible and will be the sole guest submission for the series, angling for her second win in the category.
The “Sleep, Dearie Sleep,” written by Peter Morgan and directed by Stephen Daldry, clocks in at a robust 72 minutes, the longest of any episode across its six seasons. In the series’ final moments, Imelda Staunton’s Elizabeth looks back on the highs and lows of her reign as she grapples with the idea of handing the crown to Charles. Her younger self appears to...

David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and the reviews have begun to emerge. The film follows a businessman and grieving widower who invents a controversial technology known as Gravetech that allows families to see inside the graves of their loved ones as they decompose. Although known as the master of body horror, fans shouldn’t expect too much of that as Cronenberg’s latest is a much more personal film. The Shrouds is at least partly inspired by the death of his wife, Carolyn Cronenberg, in 2017.
THR‘s Leslie Felperin said, “This fetid stew of sex, death and tech may be an aphrodisiac for hardcore Cronenberg fans, but more casual viewers are likely to find it all rather slapdash and undercooked here. Cinematographer Douglas Koch’s lighting looks drabber than usual, and many of the scenes feel like the first or second take after a long day’s filming,...

When his wife died, Karsh tells the blind date he has asked to lunch, he had an overwhelming urge to jump into the coffin with her rather than see her sent away alone. Instead, he contrived a way to straddle the worlds of the living and the dead, setting up a luxury cemetery where the dead are wrapped in metallic shrouds that are like camera blankets. Above ground, there are screens over each grave on which you can watch your loved one disintegrating.
Welcome to Gravetech, the latest of Canadian director David Cronenberg’s sinister institutions, and welcome to The Shrouds, Cronenberg’s latest feature to debut in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
Over the four years since she died, the painfully bereaved Karsh (Vincent Cassel) has been checking in to see his wife Becca’s body – already crumbling with cancer before she passed – rot down to the bone.

“I didn’t think I was going to get that far,” admits Thelma Houston, the legendary Grammy-winning diva who placed third on “The Masked Singer” as Clock. “There have been some other divas out there that we know well that didn’t get quite that far, so I said, ‘Well, as long as I can do as good as they did that would be great.’ To go this far was just a surprise to me. It was one of the most challenging things I have ever done, trust and believe.”

During a recent Emmys FYC conversation in Atlanta with Bmf showrunner Heather Zuhlke, stars Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., Da’Vinchi, Michole Briana White and Russell Hornsby — who respectively play Big Meech, Terry, and Flenory matriarch and patriarch Lucille and Charles — and executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who had been less active with the network in recent years after several fallouts, was full of pride and commentary about the Starz drama’s current success and future plans.
There’s no denying that Jackson putting his hip hop fame and street cred behind Power, the series essentially about a drug kingpin named Ghost (Omari Hardwick) who wanted to get out the game and become a respectable businessman, changed the premium network’s fortune. Power reportedly increased Starz’s subscribers base by as much as 40 percent.
From that came three successful spinoffs — Power Book II: Ghost; Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force.

Ever since X-Men ’97 was revived by Marvel Studios, the superhero landscape has entered into a pseudo-nostalgic era, where audiences have begun to reminisce about the good old days, when animated series were the go-to format for good superhero fiction. Almost immediately, there was a demand to bring back other animated series, not just from Marvel, but other studios that had previously produced great superhero content like Batman Beyond.

Batman Beyond remains one of the greatest versions of the Dark Knight, following Terry McGinnis in the city of Neo Gotham, as he is mentored by Bruce Wayne in a cyberpunk setting. The show was unceremoniously canceled, despite its great premise and ratings, in favor of Justice League Unlimited, which also ended the show officially in its episode Epilogue.

The Bear is one of those rare stories that comes along once in a blue moon. It doesn't get by on flashy CG, explosions, or modded-out race cars flying down the streets.
Witty dialogue, high stress, and intense drama fuel this machine, and perhaps that's why so many big-name actors are attracted to its frenzied undercurrents.
Kudos to the creative team assembled under the banner of The Bear. They've created a fantastic ride, thrumming with intensity and entertainment without needing to spend a fortune.
They're clearly doing something right. Series creator Christopher Storer (bolstered by incredible writers like Joanna Calo) nails the pace and character beats while accomplishing a rare feat within the industry, perfecting the art of the cameo appearance.
Cameos are often tricky for several reasons. They tend to disrupt the immersive nature of the story. As a prime example, everyone is still trying to forget Ed Sheeran...

The BBC sitcom Terry & June is available to stream unedited in full, but a warning at the start of it has left one MP demanding his country back.
Starring June Whitfield and Terry Scott, the BBC sitcom Terry & June was a big hit for the corporation, particularly in the 1980s. It debuted in 1979, ran through until 1987, and the show has been made available to stream in full via the BritBox service.
To the best of my knowledge, not a single frame of the show has been edited or altered. In spite of if being a programme very much of its time, the decision has been made to leave the material in tact, and instead just add a warning at the start.
This seems a decent way of doing things. Retrospectively censoring material to modern sensitivities is a dangerous and evolving path. Letting people wander unwarned into family-targeted viewing...

The Most Precious of Cargoes, the first animated feature from Oscar-winning French director Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), will open this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant narrates the film with voice acting from Dominique Blanc, Denis Podalydès, and Grégory Gadebois. Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water) composed the score. Animation is from 3.0 Studio – formerly Prima Linea — the group behind the...
