Sunday mornings, freshly cooked breakfast, perched in front of the TV – that’s how millions of kids spent the beginning of their week across the States back in the day. Fox Kids’ Spider-Man: The Animated Series was the introduction to the titular superhero for a lot of 90s kids, and still remains one of the better Marvel animated shows to this day.

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man franchise did not live up to the expectations of Sony which propelled the scrapping of the potential third installment. Recently, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone starrer The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit the theaters again but the collection of the rerelease was not impressive.
Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has picked up rather an odd record, the movie’s rerelease has put it in the spot of lowest opening from any Spider-Man rerelease so far. The Marc Webb-directed movie claimed $709 million at the box office as per The Numbers. The feat was impressive but considering the huge budget of over $200 million and marketing costs the movie needed a little more to extend into another movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the wall-crawler's latest movie to return to theaters as part of Sony's "Spider-Mondays," but how did it fare when compared to its predecessors?
The movie, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Dane DeHaan, earned $500,000. That's not exactly a, well, amazing result, though it is pretty much what we expected for a sequel which isn't anywhere near as revered as its predecessors.
For comparison, The Amazing Spider-Man opened in 466 theaters last week and made $510,000. However, it's still a mighty fall from Spider-Man ($683,000), Spider-Man 2 ($809,000), and Spider-Man 3 ($760,000). Next up is 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming.
On the plus side, with a $1,100 per theater average, this was a solid showing, albeit one deemed less-than-spectacular overall.
We reviewed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back in 2014 and it wasn't the most positive verdict.

Andrew Garfield was cast as the second iteration of Spider-Man in Sony’s reboot of the film franchise. He made his debut as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man and also reprised his role in the sequel. While a planned third film was canceled after the sequel’s less-than-stellar performance, Garfield is still loved as the web crawler.
Garfield was replaced by Tom Holland in the MCU, and the star had followed up Tobey Maguire’s legendary performance when he was cast in the reboot. The actor had to compete with other Spider-Men when all of them appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, Garfield seemed to have a healthy attitude towards comparisons with other actors.

Andrew Garfield’s arc as Peter Parker in his The Amazing Spider-Man film series may have come to an abrupt end when fans were expecting more, but it still lives in their hearts nonetheless. This became apparent recently when Marvel fans jumped in the picture to remind everyone of his web-slinger saga by Marc Webbs after the shooting of the stunt scenes faced some criticism.
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in his own superhero film series.
This critical approach came from Jon Watts, the helmer of all three of Tom Holland’s movies as Parker, who recently shared some pretty bold advice for the next Spider-Man director regarding the slinging stunt scenes. But instead of gaining appreciation from fans for it, Watts instead faced criticism, with fans reminding him of how Garfield managed to pull those stunts off for his saga.

When it comes to picking the definitive live-action Spider-Man, different people will choose different versions, as all three of them are iconic in their own right. But it’s important to note that out of them all, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man duology remains the most divisive, especially The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which failed to make it big upon its release.
However, despite its issues, The Amazing Spider-Man excelled in one aspect compared to Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire’s films, and it’s Peter Parker’s love interest.

Director Jon Watts stepped up to direct the three solo Tom Holland Spider-Man films that were wildly successful at the box office. The Home-trilogy was a perfect three-part story for Holland’s Spider-Man as he evolved from a young bubbly teenager to learning his responsibilities and dealing with a profound loss.
Jon Watts’ Home-trilogy ended on a high note with 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home
Watts delivered a much bigger and character-driven film with the trilogy than previous Spider-Man films. However, most fans did not find a distinctive visual style and flair that the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s films had. While many agree that Watts did a great job with his trilogy, the change of director for the 4th installment is a welcome change for some.

To celebrate Sony Pictures' 100th anniversary, every live-action Spider-Man movie is being re-released in theaters. Over the past few weeks, Sam Raimi's trilogy has returned to the big screen to much fanfare, but how did The Amazing Spider-Man fare yesterday evening?
Andrew Garfield is immensely popular among fans, but clearly not as much as Tobey Maguire.
The Amazing Spider-Man opened in 466 theaters and earned $510,000. That's quite a drop from Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3. It might also make Sony think twice about ever making The Amazing Spider-Man 3, particularly if there's likely to be greater interest in Spider-Man 4!
This is still a strong result as it made a $1,100 average per theater.
Despite The Amazing Spider-Man not performing as well as its predecessors, Garfield remains incredibly popular. The reboot simply isn't considered a classic, and these numbers should take nothing away from what the actor brought to the table as Peter Parker.

When Marvel Studios enlisted Jon Watts to direct Spider-Man: Homecoming, he was a relative unknown. The filmmaker had helmed the low-budget Clown and Cop Car, but neither of those necessarily suggested he was a good fit to bring the wall-crawler into the MCU.
Like Sam Raimi and Marc Webb before him, Watts proved his detractors wrong by delivering a movie which scored glowing reviews and a spectacular $880.2 million at the worldwide box office.
Spider-Man: Far From Home followed two years later and earned over $1.1 billion, and when Spider-Man: No Way Home eventually swung into theaters, it grossed a jaw-dropping $1.9 billion.
After devoting several years of his life to Spider-Man, Watts decided he needed a break from the MCU and gave up the chance to next take charge of The Fantastic Four. He's since shifted focus to upcoming Star Wars TV series, Skeleton Crew, and a new director will be brought on board for Spider-Man 4.

"We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man." These were the words uttered by former Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Michael Lynton after an investor meeting in November 2013. Those words would become the undoing of the franchise solely under Sony's stewardship, with 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" serving as the nail in the coffin. With the benefit of hindsight, we might be looking at the most outright financially successful franchise-killer in cinema history.
The Andrew Garfield-led "Spider-Man" films remain a tragic mixed bag. There are those who adore Garfield as Marvel's famed webslinger. There are many others who can't get past the messy direction the films themselves wandered down -- particularly this sequel we're talking about today.

Sam Raimi found great success with the ‘Spider-Man’ film trilogy, each installment grossing over $800 million worldwide. However, plans for further sequels were halted due to script issues. Disappointed with ‘Spider-Man 3,’ Raimi aimed to redeem the franchise with ‘Spider-Man 4,’ which unfortunately never came to fruition. In 2022, he expressed regret about not ending the series on a high note.
Despite this, Raimi’s involvement with Spider-Man continued as he and Marc Webb served as creative consultants for Marvel Studios’ ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ directed by Jon Watts. Recently, rumors have circulated about Raimi directing ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ the highly anticipated installment in the ‘Avengers’ franchise.
Recently, Raimi stated his desire to direct the final Phase 6 movie, but unfortunately, the studio hasn’t approached him yet.

When it comes to the character of Spider-Man, we’ve seen it all from Sam Raimi’s iconic trilogy, the MCU’s more tech-heavy and modern trilogy, some stunning animated Miles Morales films, and even a catalogue of disappointing spin-offs which follow villains like Venom and Morbius. Even Madame Web delivered yet another mediocre spin-off film in Sony’s ongoing attempt to give us Spider-Man movies that don’t feature Spider-Man. But tucked away in the depths of the Spider-Verse is Marc Webb’s 2012 reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man. A film that was released just 5 years after Raimi’s disappointing third installment of the Tobey Maguire era and was marketed to be the untold story of Peter Parker and capture the darker elements of the character and his origins. Jean-Paul Vignon, a French actor and vocalist who frequently lent his Gallic accent to Hollywood productions, died of liver cancer on March 22 in Beverly Hills, Calif. He was 89.
Among his notable work, Vignon lent his voice to Marc Webb’s romantic comedy “(500) Days of Summer” as the French narrator. His voice appears when the lovelorn Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) goes to the movies by himself after Summer (Zoey Descanel) breaks up with him, only to fall asleep and dream of a black-and-white French film that speaks to his “suffering.”
Vignon voiced one of Robin Hood’s Merry Men in the first “Shrek” film, part of a group of antagonists encountered by Shrek, Fiona and Donkey along their journey to Duloc. He also voiced the character Gena in the animated feature “The Adventures of Cheburashka and Friends,” which features the titular Russian cartoon character.

It has been a fun and exciting day for rumor lovers and fans of Sydney Sweeney, as a rumor broke out and was then refuted by the actress’ representatives. Namely, earlier today, casting information revealed that popular young actress Sydney Sweeney would be playing the main role in the upcoming supernatural thriller Day Drinker directed by Marc Webb, alongside Johnny Depp, one of the more controversial names in Hollywood today. But, it seems, this was a wrong piece of information, as Sweeney and her representatives denied the claim, causing a bit of a scandal.
We don’t really know much about the whole project, aside from what the early rumors have told us. The 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man director signed on to direct Day Drinker back in 2022. Depp has been confirmed to star in the movie, with Zach Dean writing the script.

Before Spider-Man: No Way Home gathered decades of web-slinging adventures, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had to persuade Spider-Man: No Way Home producer Amy Pascal to allow him to make films for her.
In 2021, the two talked to The New York Times about how Pascal contacted Feige to discuss Spidey’s future after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 received unfavorable reviews in 2014. Starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, the film was helmed by Marc Webb.
Andrew Garfield played Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man
Pascal has acknowledged, though, that she was not, at first, fond of the idea of Peter Parker joining the MCU, which led her to throw a “sandwich” at the Marvel boss. It is hardly surprising that Sony looked to Marvel for support following the critical whipping The Amazing Spider-Man 2 received.
It seemed like Sony was at a loss for what to do with its Webslinger at the time.

Sydney Sweeney and her team are pushing back against a report that she will star alongside Johnny Depp in a new supernatural thriller called Day Drinker from 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb.
Jeff Sneider initially reported news of the project in his TheInSneider newsletter on Friday. However, after the story went viral, a representative for Sweeney dismissed the report. Sweeney herself seemed to address the report on his Twitter on Saturday, saying that she “woke up to rumors.”
According to Sneider’s report, Zach Dean wrote the script for Day Drinker, which follows an “enigmatic stranger (Depp) and a bartender (Sweeney) mourning the loss of her lover.” It’s said to explore themes of “love, friendship, and revenge.”

Sony’s second attempt at the web-slinger’s movie adaptation was widely considered inferior to Sam Raimi’s and MCU movies. Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web has been facing poor reception. It cast down fans with a confusing plot and bad execution. The film feels like a parody of comic characters and doesn’t do justice to extending the Spider-Man universe—according to many reviews given by top critics.
Madame Web tells the story of Cassandra Webb (a paramedic), whose psychic powers develop in the womb when her mother is bitten by a spider before dying.

Actor-musician Donald Glover has a long history with ‘Spider-Man’, stretching all the way back to 2010 when he and his fans launched an online campaign to get him an audition for Marc Webb’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’.
The role ultimately went to Andrew Garfield, but Glover has since carved out his own corner of the Spider-Verse, popping up as Miles Morales’ uncle Aaron in 2017’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and last year’s ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Now, Glover has admitted that he’s probably “too old” to play Spidey himself — but he wouldn’t be surprised if he got the call to join the Spider-Verse again.
As per Entertainment Weekly, Donald and his ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ co-star Maya Erskine took Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test, where Erskine asked her fellow actor if he thought his recent Spider-Verse cameo was “Sony’s way of apologising for not casting you as ‘Spider-Man’.”

Josh Hutcherson Reflects On Losing The Amazing Spider-Man To Andrew Garfield (Picture Credit: IMDb)
The Hunger Games is a successful franchise that gave Jennifer Lawrence massive fame and popularity. Besides Jen, Josh Hutcherson was also praised for his performance and was a part of the main cast in the film series. But before landing the role of Peeta Mellark, he auditioned for Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in The Amazing Spider-Man, but it eventually went to Andrew Garfield.
Marc Webb directed the 2012 film starring Andrew and Emma Stone in the lead, and it had a sequel in 2014. However, it wasn’t continued after two installments while Garfield reprised as the web-slinging superhero in 2021 in Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man: No Way Home and became a part of the MCU. After the MCU film’s release, people started demanding the makers revive his solo franchise, but there is hardly any news. Scroll below for more.

Murder mystery drama Death And Other Details is heading to Disney+ – and the show even has a new trailer! Have a gander within.
Michael Weiss has been a producer and screenwriter on many successful shows, including Chicago P.D, The Mentalist and the terrific Cobie Smulders private eye comedy drama Stumptown, which sadly only ran for a single series but is well worth watching. It’s currently streaming on Disney+.
Weiss is now co-showrunner of Death And Other Details, a murder mystery drama series heading to Hulu in the US and Disney+ in other territories, including the UK. It looks like a cross between Death On The Nile and The White Lotus, which is a pretty good hybrid if you ask us.
The synopsis reads as follows:
