Is Fargo really Fargo if it doesn’t feature a cop (or two) with a heart of gold? While not all law enforcement is good in the FX anthology’s world, there was no questioning Witt Farr’s (Lamorne Morris) morality upon meeting him in Year 5’s premiere episode. Acknowledging the danger kidnapped housewife Dorothy “Dot” Lyon (Juno Temple) finds herself in, Witt steps up to try and help release her from the clutches of a bitter ex who is determined to be repaid for a “debt” he feels he’s owed. The polar opposite of Jon Hamm‘s sideways sheriff, Roy Tillman, Witt puts his life on the line for positive change. Helping to deliver Witt’s moving character arc is New Girl vet Lamorne Morris, the subject of TV Insider’s latest Scene Study, in which he takes a look back at the moment in Episode 8, “Blanket,” when...

Spoiler Alert: This article and video contain spoilers for Season 5.
“I was kinda disappointed originally,” admits Lamorne Morris about his character’s ending on “Fargo.” In our recent webchat he adds, “As an actor you want to be this hero with your shirt off and a six-pack. You want to be Denzel Washington, but that doesn’t serve the story all the time. The way this went down served the story.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
“Fargo” is the FX anthology series created by Noah Hawley that was inspired by the 1996 Joel and Ethan Coen film. Each season takes a darkly comedic look at new characters dealing with life and crime in the Midwest. The series’ fifth installment tells the story of Dot, played by Juno Temple, whose normal life is disrupted when her abusive ex-husband, Sheriff Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), discovers her whereabouts. Welcome to My Favorite Scene! In this series, IndieWire speaks to actors behind a few of our favorite television performances about their personal-best onscreen moment and how it came together.
IndieWire caught Lamorne Morris on the road. Headed to work on an unnamed set in Los Angeles, the “Fargo” Season 5 actor joked about an overcast day and rush-hour traffic. Asked how he was faring, he quipped on speakerphone, “Oh, I’m good! I’m in the car, just driving at high speeds recklessly. Very, veeery recklessly.”
The former “New Girl” actor may be many years entrenched in the Hollywood grind, but Morris is native to Chicago. A childhood spent in the American midwest helped him with the accent and demeanor needed for Deputy Witt Farr. The North Dakota highway patrolman has a surprise encounter in Episode 1 “The Tragedy of the Commons” with the scrappy Dot Lyon (Juno Temple) and menacing...

Night Shift, from Benjamin China and Paul China, is a horror film about a hotel you don’t want to visit. The Bates Motel and The Overlook Hotel are worse places, but The All Tucked Inn is definitely on my list of Vacation Spots To Be Avoided. Its kitschy name is really the most fun thing about it. The building is worn, the guest rooms are sparse and bedraggled, there are decades-old taxidermied animals everywhere, and you can practically smell the musty order through the screen. And there are rats. It’s safe to say this hotel has seen better days.
That being said, it is absolutely the kind of hotel you don’t mind visiting vicariously through a screen. While you’re snuggled up safe on your rat-free couch, you can enjoy the experience of watching someone else roam the dark hallways and explore the dusty rooms and deal...

The friendships on New Girl are just as important to the series as the romantic relationships. The show wouldn’t be what it is without the unique dynamics of the central friend group, both as a whole and within different pairings. Some friendships on the show are more expected, like Cece (Hannah Simone) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel), and are there from the beginning to the end of the series. Others kind of appear out of nowhere, like Nick (Jake Johnson) and Tran (Ralph Ahn), and yet it’s hard to imagine the show without them.
New Girl is a great reminder at how important it is to let comedies explore relationships both within and outside of the core friend group. It’s one thing to see how the characters get along as a whole, but pairing people off who may or may not have much in common initially is an...

TV crossovers and interconnected universes are the best things when it comes to fandom. But they can be super tricky, for it involves combining separate ongoing storylines into one project. It’s a daunting task for the creative group, which if not done correctly can end up being like Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl and Brooklyn 99 crossover.
Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day in New Girl
Although people appreciated watching Zooey Deschanel in Brooklyn 99, it wasn’t a great idea to combine the comedy styles of the two shows. Further, what created the biggest mess out of the crossover was featuring the same actors in different roles in the two shows.

Up until recently I worked the night shift in a hotel, so I know how creepy it can feel at times, especially when you’re getting used to the place with all of the building’s odd little noises and quirks. That’s the position Gwen finds herself in.
Recently moved into the area and in need of money, she’s answered an ad for a temporary overnight position at the All Tucked Inn. The owner Teddy, who seems to be making his story up as he goes along, tells her the woman who regularly does the job has been sidelined with medical issues. He’d love to stay and help, but he has a date. But there’s nothing to worry about, this is a quiet, peaceful place where nothing ever happens.

Although Phoebe Tonkin was in the 2012 shark thriller Bait and the high profile 2022 flop Babylon, most viewers probably know her from her work in television: she has been on multiple episodes H2O: Just Add Water, Home and Away, The Secret Circle, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Westworld, Safe Harbour, and more. I just finished watching a Netflix series she was in, Boy Swallows Universe, which I thought was pretty great. Now Tonkin has the lead role in a thriller called Night Shift, which just received a VOD and limited theatrical release today, courtesy of Quiver Distribution. To help you figure out whether or not Night Shift is a movie you’d like to see, we have a clip and the film’s trailer embedded above.

Taraji P. Henson is going to keep telling her truth.
As she took the stage at the 2024 ABFF Honors on Sunday night, “The Color Purple” star pointed to a tattoo on her left bicep that spells out those words exactly: “The Truth.”
“If you are alive and God blessed you with another day to live, it is your job to tell your truth,” Henson told the crowd gathered for the American Black Film Festival’s marquee gala. “Because by you telling your truth, you set yourself free and somebody else free. When we stay quiet, nothing changes. The squeaky wheel gets fixed.”
That ideology is something Henson’s learned to keep close over the years, particularly when it comes to navigating Hollywood.
Late last year, Henson spoke her truth and sparked an important conversation about the unique challenges Black actresses face. She used her platform during “The Color Purple” press...

Zoe Lister-Jones was proud to attend Sunday’s Spirit Awards, and the reason is twofold. First, the multihyphenate talent turned up in Santa Monica to support a pair of nominations for Roku’s Slip, the original series she created, starred in and executive produced alongside a team that includes Dakota Johnson. Reason No. 2: She did so by walking into the event hand-in-hand with a new love in her life.
When the subject of her plus-one came up during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 41-year-old Lister-Jones responded with a big reveal: “I’m here, I’m queer, I have some fear but I’m working through it.” Lister-Jones is in a new relationship with a fellow filmmaker, Sammi Cohen, who most recently directed Netflix’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, the teen comedy starring Adam Sandler and family including wife Jackie and their daughters Sadie and Sunny.

Jason Reitman is staying mighty busy these days. Less than 24 hours after the release of the latest trailer for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," four major casting announcements were made for his next project, "SNL 1975." The film will attempt to tell the true story of what went on behind the scenes before the broadcast premiere of "Saturday Night Live" on NBC, highlighting the real-time bedlam with some of the most legendary names in American comedy. Reitman co-wrote the script with his "Ghostbusters" collaborator Gil Kenan and is basing the story on the firsthand accounts of those who were there. Lest we forget, Reitman's father is the legendary Ivan Reitman, so these comedy titans were the friends and colleagues of the family. If anyone can get serious insight, it's Reitman.

While they've been focused on their Ghostbusters films of late, with the newest, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire less than two months away now, Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan have also been putting the pieces together for something that draws on no little amount of nostalgia (not to mention a connection to Dan Aykroyd): SNL 1975, about the fraught first night of Saturday Night Live. The duo (with Reitman directing and Kenan writing) have built the cast and are now adding Lamorne Morris, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Michael Smith and Matt Wood to the line-up.
Here's the official synopsis: "On October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. FX’s hit television show Fargo just wrapped up its fifth season. Fargo loosely based on the 1996 movie of the same name first debuted on the network way back in 2014. Each season of the show follows a mostly new cast of characters who get involved with murder investigations in different Midwestern towns. Each crime is somehow connected.
Season five was no different from the past seasons. The fifth season of Fargo follows It stars Juno Temple as Dorothy “Dot” Lyon, a seemingly typical Midwestern housewife living in Scandia, Minnesota, whose mysterious past comes back to haunt her after she lands in hot water with the authorities. Season five also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jon Hamm, Joe Keery, Lamorne Morris, Dave Foley, and Sam Spruell.
The cast and the stories may change throughout the seasons of Fargo, but there has been one person from the beginning that we owe a big thank you to.

[This story contains spoilers from Fargo’s season five finale, “Bisquik.”]
For Fargo season five star Juno Temple, nothing was going to get in the way of Dorothy “Dot” Lyon’s mostly happy ending.
When the dust settled on Noah Hawley’s tremendous fifth season of Fargo, Dot finally overcame her wickedly abusive ex-husband Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), his hired gun who happened to be a 500-year-old sin-eater named Ole Munch (Sam Spruell) and her mistrustful mother-in-law, Lorraine Lyon (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Dot thought her quarrel with Munch was settled when he saved her and freed her at Roy’s ranch so she could put a stop to the latter’s vicious cycle of abuse once and for all, but a year after Roy ended up in handcuffs, Dot and her daughter Scotty (Sienna King) arrived home to see Munch sitting in their living room with their respective, unsuspecting husband and father, Wayne (David Rysdahl...

[This story contains major spoilers from the season five finale of Fargo.]
When speaking about the essence of Fargo, show creator Noah Hawley says every season only needs two things: an element of crime, and decency. Few characters embodied those ideas better in season five than Witt Farr, the more than decent state trooper bravely battling a criminal element all season long to help out Juno Temple’s Dorothy Lyon.
Played by New Girl and Woke alum Lamorne Morris, Farr barely made it out of the season premiere alive, when Sam Spruell’s menacing Ole Munch came knocking on Dot’s door. Unfortunately, Farr was not able to cheat death twice. Morris’ straight-and-narrow state trooper was the major casualty in the season five finale, killed by Jon Hamm’s menacing Roy Tillman. Farr pursued a fleeing Tillman into a tunnel, and had the man dead to rights, but decided he could not shoot in cold blood. That decent decision costs Farr his life,...
