- Says that he became a fan of horror because his mother was a huge fan, and introduced him to the genre from a young age. She even named him Damien after the character from The Omen (1976).
- Has defended himself against allegations that his movies are misogynistic, stating that he was raised by women who also loved the horror genre, and that he wants the audience to root for his female protagonists. However, he suspects that viewers have a subconscious tendency to be on the bad guy's side.
- Despite the extreme amounts of blood and gore in his movie, he has admitted that he cannot stand the sight of real blood, and will be the first one to faint when medical programs are broadcast.
- Famously invents and creates all (practical) special effects for his movies himself, which allows him to produce high-quality set-ups on low budgets. This also enables him to work independently from big studios, and have complete creative control over his works.
