It looks like Pixar doesn’t plan to follow in Disney’s footsteps when it comes to live-action remakes.
Disney has been on a whirlwind of live-action films like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid with many more including Moana and Mufasa: The Lion King slated to arrive. But unlike its parent company, Pixar Animation Studios, especially Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter, isn’t keen on going down that road.

Sure, there have been some successful live-action reimaginings in the past and Jon Favreau’s remake of The Lion King stands testament to the same. But Docter has a rather stellar reason for steering clear of live-action adaptations and maybe, it’s precisely what Disney needs to hear.

Luca Guadagnino’s acclaimed tennis drama Challengers is heading to Blu-ray and DVD on 12th July. More details below.
Challengers debuted to much critical acclaim in April and Warner Bros have now set a date for the film’s physical media release.
Luca Guadagnino’s sumptuous, erotic tennis drama will be available on DVD and Blu-ray but not on 4K Uhd apparently. The press release doesn’t mention any extras either, but then again, with a film this good, who needs them?
Directed by Guadagnino, Challengers stars Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist with a script written by Justin Kuritzkes.
Here’s a synopsis for the film: From visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, Challengers stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike...

Josh O’Connor won’t be playing Alfredo Linguini anytime soon. Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter said this week that the animation-to-live-action craze “sort of bothers me.”
“This might bite me in the butt for saying it, but it sort of bothers me,” Docter told Time. “I like making movies that are original and unique to themselves. To remake it, it’s not very interesting to me personally.”
Docter’s comments came in response to a question about whether he’d seen the trend online campaigning for Josh O’Connor — who has long spoken about his love for Pixar’s 2007 hit Ratatouille — to play a live-action protagonist Alfredo Linguini.
Docter said the casting probably couldn’t happen — plus, it might be difficult to make a “live-action rat cute,” he said.
The latter issue spans across most of Pixar’s canon. “So much of what we create only works because of the rules of the [animated] world,...

Ever since we first learned the title of Rian Johnson's next Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, we've had a sneaking suspicion that Benoit Blanc's latest outing might be an altogether much darker affair than his last, 2022's sun soaked murder-mystery Glass Onion. And if our first look at Daniel Craig's southern sleuther in the upcoming threequel is anything to go by, then we may just be right. Taking to Twitter earlier today to commemorate his first day of shooting on the film, writer-director Johnson shared a brooding black-and-white shot of Craig's Blanc suited up, hair down, and holding onto a new hat. Check it out below;
It's certainly not giving Benoit Blanc in his stripy swimming costume living it up on a billionaire's private island now, is it? Sporting long hair, a dapper three-piece suit, and a decidedly forlorn expression, it looks like Blanc means business this third time around.

Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc is looking dapper as hell in this new look at "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery," Rian Johnson's latest murder mystery that continues the adventures of the private detective after "Knives Out" and "Glass Onion." The topline instant takeaway is obviously that Blanc has much longer hair than he's had in the previous two films, and that new look could potentially signal a new attitude or maybe even a whole new worldview for this character. Could a shaggier-haired Blanc be a bit more laid back and bohemian this time around? Perhaps he's been hanging out with his pal Derol from "Glass Onion" in between movies and taken some life lessons from the amiable slacker.

It’s day one of filming on Rian Johnson’s next Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, and the filmmaker has shared a photo of Daniel Craig to prove it.

It also looks as though Johnson’s latest Knives Out murder mystery will see Craig sport a rather different hairstyle: longer, cleanly parted, like a blonde Brett Anderson out of 1990s indie rock outfit, Suede.

When the original Knives Out movie was released by Lionsgate in 2019, the whodunnit starring Daniel Craig as the southern P.E. Benoit Blanc, was either doomed to fail or become a smashing success. The latter happened, as the ensemble cast full of big names made Knives Out one of the best films of the year, ending up with numerous accolades and nominations, with many going so far as to claim that it had revived the whodunnit genre. The sequel, Glass Onion, was also well-received, but more because of its political and social messages than for the plot, which was more or less feeble and unworthy of the original. But, what is important is that Glass Onion also featured an ensemble cast, and it seems that the upcoming third movie, Wake Up Dead Man, will also follow in these footsteps.

Acting is a pretty unusual profession. After all, most people don't push themselves through intense pretend emotions in order to earn a paycheck, which means there are sometimes some interesting impacts in an actor's life. There are all kinds of stories about how particular roles changed actors forever, but what about a film giving a performer their first heartbreak? Plenty of young actors have their first kiss onscreen, but a first heartbreak is rather unique. In Vanity Fair's "Actors on Actors" interview series, "Furiosa" star Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that she suffered her first heartbreak as a result of one of her earliest roles: Thomasin in Robert Eggers' 2015 folk horror film "The Witch."
"The Witch" is a seriously spooky slow burn of a horror movie that really puts Thomasin through the ringer as she contends with the forces of the devil after she and her family are ostracized from their Puritan...

In terms of ticket sales for conventional blockbusters, this summer is indeed off to a sluggish start. But if you focus only on the nickels and dimes, you likely are missing why you fell in love with movies in the first place.
And there’s been quite a bit to love, or at least respectfully admire, in the first half of 2024. While a few genuinely great blockbusters on this list have struggled, others have thrived. Perhaps more impressive though is the handful of indie and prestige films which have found healthy Gen Z and millennial audiences and (would wonders never cease) benefited from costing less than a cool quarter-billion or thereabouts to produce. Likely in part due to so many delays...

The series of murder mysteries that began with the 2019 film Knives Out and continued with the 2022 film Glass Onion is set to keep on going with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which has writer/director Rian Johnson back at the helm. Johnson and his collaborators are being very secretive about this project right now, but there’s a lot of hype for it – so we figured this would be a good time to start assembling a list of Everything We Know About Wake Up Dead Man. Here we go:
Title
Johnson got the title Knives Out from a Radiohead song. When it came time to make the sequel Glass Onion, he got the title from a song by The Beatles. So it’s only fitting that the third film in the franchise have a song-inspired title as well. But while Radiohead and The Beatles were from England,...

In Luca Guadagnino’s tennis thriller Challengers, stars Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor litigate their love triangle as much on the court as in the bedroom. As such, the sport has to stay interesting.
Guadagnino previously told Little White Lies he doesn’t like watching real tennis because it’s boring. “The way in which [the sport] is shown is rather undynamic,” he said. Challengers — punctuated by the camera’s near-constant frenetic motion — seems to be in part about rectifying this failing.
“Luca’s vision for this movie was making the tennis action generally very kinetic,” Challengers VFX director Brian Drewes tells The Hollywood Reporter. The camera sweeps above and below the court, jumping toward the subjects’ beautifully sweaty faces and buzzing with an immersive energy that took the internet and critics by storm upon the movie’s release. This kineticism reaches its peak at the end of the film, when the camera becomes the ball,...

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.
