"The Simpsons," now in its 500th season (okay, it's actually in season 35, but who's counting?) recently made headlines by killing off a character who has been with the show since the beginning. It's not the first time the classic animated sitcom has bumped off a character — Maude Flanders famously died, as did Bart's teacher Mrs. Krabappel, and both instances left poor Ned Flanders a widower. Bleeding Gums Murphy's death sent Lisa Simpson into depression. Dr. Marvin Monroe was said to have died, only to then return. Then, of course, there's the unfortunate Frank Grimes, who died after grabbing some electrical wiring in one of the show's most infamous (and best) episodes. In short, death is nothing new to Springfield — especially when you consider how long "The Simpsons" has been on the air. The characters may not exactly age, but time marches on.
However, this recent character death seems to be getting to people.

Stochastic Journalism
While Lisa Simpson memorably described “stochastic” by its more benign definition, the word has increasingly become attached to “terrorism” in a world where social media platforms have become launching pads for mass-harassment and targeted violence. The fact that Donald Trump’s ongoing felony criminal trial has been struggling to impanel a jury based on the former President and defendant’s signature strategy of siccing his fanatical supporters on people he doesn’t like is rapidly popularizing the term even further.
Not that Trump is alone—as soon as the jury pool was whittled down to a handful of lucky citizens, news outlets have rushed to publicize literally every personal detail they can glean from the proceeding’s increasingly inadequate privacy policies. At least one chosen...

D'oh! The Simpsons is going strong in its 35th season, and the writers are exploring some new directions.
After three and a half decades, Marge and Lisa Simpson are starting to get the screen time they've always deserved.
As exciting as it is to see this testosterone-driven classic lean more inclusive of its female characters, there's some question about the motive behind the change.
This show has captured the dynamic between Homer and Bart well, and it's not like we never got to see Marge bond with Lisa.
In fact, way back on The Simpsons Season 1 Episode 6, one of the show's best quotes came during a conversation between the mother-daughter duo.
You want to be sad, honey, be sad. We'll ride it out with you. And when you get finished feeling sad, we'll still be there.

The character of Dr. Marvin Monroe (Harry Shearer) first appeared in the "The Simpsons" episode "There's No Disgrace Like Home". He would show up during the show's early seasons when Homer (Dan Castellaneta) was preoccupied with his family's perceived normal-ness. Homer looked at his home and saw the suburban ideals of a nuclear family slowly exploding. To combat this, Homer pawned the family TV -- an object he saw as problematic anyway -- and bought therapy sessions with Dr. Marvin Monroe, a family psychiatrist who promised "family bliss or double your money back." It seems the Simpsons were so dysfunctional that even Dr. Monroe couldn't cure them (a shock therapy session goes horribly awry).
Dr. Monroe typically appeared whenever "The Simpsons" required the word of a psychiatric specialist to aid in plot points. He was one of the show's many regular supporting characters, relegated to the background. However, the character...

In July 2021, it was announced that Universal Pictures had spent $400 million to acquire rights to The Exorcist. Planning a trilogy, with two sequels that would be exclusive to the studio’s streamer Peacock, they collaborated with horror outfit Blumhouse in a deal that essentially seemed rush to match Netflix’s then-groundbreaking pact to produce two Knives Out sequels. Well, in the two years since—where Wall Street has realized the long-game business plan of streaming was actually, to quote George Herbert Walker Bush, “voodoo economics”—the first entry of this (hopefully not-realized) horror trilogy lands in theaters with a not-insignificant amount of pressure to recoup the investment.

It’s not uncommon for comedies to take a potshot or two at Scientology. After all, most of what people know of the Church stems from gossip pages, highly publicized lawsuits, or documentaries like Going Clear and Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.
But despite its more than three-decade history of irreverent humor, The Simpsons has never directly mocked Scientology. Why is that, exactly?

If you include the short animated skits that aired on The Tracey Ullman Show, Yeardley Smith has been voicing the character of Lisa Simpson for 36 years — that’s well more than half her life! Once she got the role of Lisa (after originally auditioning for the voice of Bart), she needed to figure out what the character would sound like. Smith told us that, rather than looking at drawings of the character, she took her inspiration from the scripts and figured out Lisa’s personality from there. On October 30, Fox aired the newest "Simpsons" Halloween special, "Treehouse of Horror Xxxiii," the sixth episode of the long-running show's 34th season. The longevity of "The Simpsons" has never been something to scoff at, but the fact that the show is still innovating and connecting to different generations' sense of humor is even more impressive.
The second segment in this year's "Treehouse of Horror" received a lot of attention from fans leading up to the episode's release by parodying the well-known, edgy horror anime series "Death Note." The episode emulated the style of "Death Note" perfectly, even down to commissioning the animation house that animated the original anime, the South Korean studio Dr Movie.

Nope, like a famous “Treehouse of Horror” segment, explores the fact that no matter what is on screen, we, as horror fiends, can’t help ourselves. Without spoiling the movie for those who haven’t seen it, Nope asks us as horror fans and as a society what it will take...

As the climate crisis worsens, the need for urgent action grows exponentially. Ignoring a problem doesn’t make it go away, and this one threatens total global collapse. Unfortunately, the allure of money, power, and the empty promises of the free market have incentivized popular culture to ridicule and pathologize those who care deeply about the planet’s health. “Lisa Simpson” has become a shorthand for the overeducated do-nothing youth archetype created by conservatives and satirized in the media.

Lisa Simpson discovers that villains really do have more fun in the new Simpsons animated short, “Welcome to the Club” on Disney+, which sees her hanging out with “Little Mermaid” baddie Ursula and Loki.
Tom Hiddleston, who previously appeared in the Simpsons/Marvel crossover short, “The Good, the Bart, and the Loki,” returns to voice the mischievous trickster god in the new four-minute short. Voice artist Dawn Lewis takes over the role of Ursula from Pat Carroll, who died earlier this year.
Ahead of the short film’s premiere on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 12:01 a.m. Pt, TheWrap spoke with “The Simpsons” writer/producer Al Jean, who joked he’s dying to do a NatGeo crossover. And since he’s a big fan of “Bluey,” it might not be a stretch to see Simpsons’ pooch Santa’s Little Helper hanging out with our favorite animated heelers.
