Richard Foronjy, who spent more than eight years in prison before he turned to acting and appeared in such films as Serpico, Midnight Run, Repo Man and Carlito’s Way, died Sunday, his family announced. He was 86.
Foronjy said he was arrested more than 20 times for “forgery, bank robbery, credit card rip-offs, assorted crimes and skullduggery … [guilty of] almost everything except drugs and homicide,” he said in a 1987 interview with Upi’s Vernon Scott.
The Brooklyn native was convicted only once, but that got him an 8½-year stretch in the New York prisons Sing Sing and Attica before he was released when he was 32.
In Hollywood, not surprisingly, Foronjy specialized in portraying cops and crooks.
He was a cop killer in his screen debut, Serpico (1973), and cops in The Morning After (1986) and Prince of the City (1981), all for Sidney Lumet. “I was especially good at playing cops, no doubt because I got to...

Outbreak Park: "Lethal Comics and Holy Crow Press present Outbreak Park! The Walking Dead meets Jurassic Park! Writer Allan Amato and artist Andy Belanger bring you their startling vision of a post-post apocalyptic world. Humanity exists in vastly smaller numbers, within fortified enclaves mirroring the early city-states of ancient Greece. While a vaccine inoculating humans against a bite has been created, most of the planet is still subject to roving herds of undead. And equally frightening anarchist wellness Men’s groups..
In New Alhambra, Outbreak Park is built to further research into the undead phenomenon, using docile zombies as teaching tools for the children growing up in the new republic. Lest the near extinction of humanity ever be forgotten, and repeated.
But while humanity is slowly clawing it way back from the brink, underneath the veneer of civilization lies a fervent minority plotting against the yoke; religious zealots that insist...

Kino Lorber is expanding its streaming footprint. The boutique art-house distributor just launched its own SVOD platform, the Kino Film Collection.
The new app is available now as a standalone service on Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and Roku, and it will feature hundreds of movies from Kino Lorber’s film library of more than 4,000 titles. Subscriptions will begin at $5.99 per month.
In November 2023, Kino Lorber launched an Amazon Prime Video channel; you can still access its titles there. But having its own service puts the company in the race alongside other niche streaming options in the space, like the Criterion Channel ($10.99/month) or Mubi ($14.99/month).
As part of the launch, Kino Film Collection curated a selection of titles that showcase auteurs who have played at Cannes; the 2024 film festival is currently ongoing. The collection includes early movies from Yorgos Lanthimos, Jia Zhangke, and Ken Loach, as well as...

Ascended rock deity David Bowie appeared on TV and in movies as early as 1968, only shortly after the release of his first record. His first leading performance came in 1972 with the release of Nicolas Roeg's sci-fi satire "The Man Who Fell to Earth," a film about an alien who comes to Earth and becomes distracted by drugs, TV, and other unhealthy creature comforts. Bowie later played himself in Uli Edel's harrowing 1981 J.D. flick "Christiane F.," in addition to starring in the smoky vampire film "The Hunger" and terse Pow drama "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence." A younger generation fell in love with Bowie because of 1986's puppet film "Labyrinth," while he was cleverly cast as Pontius Pilate in Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ."
In 1993, when director Renny Harlin was preparing to make his mountainside actioner and Sylvester Stallone vehicle "Cliffhanger," he very much wanted Bowie to play the film's villain.

Forty years ago today, late-night TV lost one of its most influential players—and perhaps its most polarizing.
Andy Kaufman, who passed away on May 16, 1984, became a prominent figure in comedy thanks to appearances on programs like Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman, and Fridays.
Often described as a performance artist, an anti-comic, and a prankster, Kaufman aimed not to make audiences laugh, but to make them question. While he would ultimately become something of a household name when his“Foreign Man” character was worked into the sitcom Taxi, Kaufman only took the role to enable his more eccentric comedy acts, put-ons, and performance art experiments—which often took place in late night.
Intent on committing to the bit, Kaufman didn’t have as many TV shows eager to embrace him as the most successful traditional comics did.

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman don’t need to live together to make their marriage work. In fact, even though they have lived separately for years they are seemingly closer than ever. The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor opened up the couple’s unconventional marriage in an interview with Fox News Digital, where he was promoting his new comedy film Poolman, which opens in theaters today, Friday, May 10. “We’re doing great,” DeVito said of his relationship with his former Taxi co-star. “We’re sharing our granddaughter, our new granddaughter, and we see each other all the time.” DeVito and Perlman, who played boyfriend and girlfriend in Taxi and married parents in 1996’s Matilda, tied the knot in 1982. They went on to have three children: Lucy Chet DeVito, Grace Fan DeVito (born March 1985), and Jacob Daniel DeVito (born October 1987). They are also grandparents to Sinclair Lucille DeVito, who turned one back in March.

Months before she won the 2023 Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy for the first season of FX’s “The Bear,” it was reported that Ayo Edebiri would move up to lead for season two. According to our odds chart, she looks set to become the 12th woman to reap both supporting and lead Emmy bids (in that order) for a single role on a single series. If she takes the gold again, she will become the first to win both comedy actress awards in that order for one show.
Edebiri’s win in the supporting race at the strike-delayed 75th Emmys was preceded by victories in lead for season two at the 2024 Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards. Having just blocked Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”) from achieving back-to-back supporting Emmy honors, she now faces the challenge of fending off two former lead champions: Jean Smart and Quinta Brunson.

Ya know that feeling when you watch something dumb, and even though you know it’s stupid, you can’t help but laugh and enjoy yourself? The 1980s are full of comedies like that. Yeah, we know they’re dumb and not especially clever, but whatever, man, every now and then, you’re in a bad mood, and you want to turn your brain off. That’s why they made seven Police Academy movies. No one thought they were good, but we watched them anyway because they were stupid in a pleasing way.

Given her one-of-a-kind awards resume and irrefutable status as an acting legend, it’s no wonder Meryl Streep is widely expected to be honored at this year’s Emmys for her work on Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Taking the gold for her first regular comedy series role would be impressive enough, but the noteworthiness of her win would extend far beyond that. Having joined her show in its third season, she would be only the 10th non-original comedy series cast member to ever pull off a lead or supporting Emmy victory.
Not including sketch performers, Streep would be said winners club’s first new entrant in over three decades. The last was Kirstie Alley, who replaced Shelley Long as the female lead of “Cheers” at the start of season six and prevailed on her third Emmy bid in 1991. Prior to his gig on "Star Trek" in 1966, actor DeForest Kelley spent 20 years traversing the wild and hoary world of episodic television and appearing in supporting roles in little-regarded feature films. His first professional screen acting job was a one-off performance in the one-season 1947 TV series "Public Prosecutor." The series holds the distinction of being the first-ever mainstream televised series to be released on film, instead of being broadcast live, which was standard at the time.
Between that show and "Star Trek," Kelley appeared on over 80 TV shows, often just in single episodes, but sometimes returning for two or three. He also had bit roles in films like "Variety Girl," "The Men," "Taxi," and "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," playing Morgan Earp. He was just a hardworking character actor, taking the jobs that were offered him. There is an integrity to that approach.

Noted talk-show host Jimmy Fallon would have had a completely different life if he had picked up on a hint years ago. The SNL alum was reportedly blindsided when actress Nicole Kidman brought up a ‘date’ they had back when she was single after her divorce from Tom Cruise. Fallon reportedly did not know that it was a date.
The talk-show host later revealed that he was extremely embarrassed by the revelation, which came after Kidman married country rockstar Keith Urban. Fallon also revealed that in the years since Kidman’s confession, the crush has become a running joke between the three and has even led Fallon to prank Kidman.

Comedy icon Carol Kane reflected on her experience on her new TV show Dinner With The Parents in her new uInterview.
Kane gained recognition as an actress in the 1975 film Hester Street, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for best actress. In the 1970s and ’80s, she appeared in acclaimed films like Dog Day Afternoon and Annie Hall. In the early 1980s, she also appeared on the television series Taxi, acting as a comedic actress for the first time.
Dinner With The Parents is a single-camera comedy series about two 20-something brothers and their awkwardly hilarious weekly dinners at their parents’ house.
“I just think the family dynamic is so fun and so crazy, not any crazier than most families probably, but we just get to play so much, and this character is fantastic, and I got to wear such great clothes,” Kane told uInterview founder Erik Meers.

The current category champ, “The Bear,” is looking to become the 10th series to win this award for both of its first two seasons. It would join “The Phil Silvers Show,” “All in the Family,” “Taxi,” “Cheers,” “The Golden Girls,” “Frasier,” “30 Rock,” “Modern Family,” and “Ted Lasso” on this honor roll.
Of the seven other 2023 Best Comedy Series nominees, only “Abbott Elementary” and “Only Murders in the Building” are eligible to contend again. “Barry” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” officially concluded in spring 2023, while the futures of both “Jury Duty” and “Ted Lasso” remain uncertain. That leaves “Wednesday,” the confirmed second season of which will not air in time to qualify for consideration.

There is something deeply comfortable about the bar owned by Sam Malone (Ted Danson) on "Cheers," a kind of vintage Americana that can take almost any viewer back to "a place where everybody knows your name," like the theme song says. Its brick walls, wood paneling, and old-school jukebox evoke both its Boston setting and something broader, the kind of place one might expect to find nestled down a random street in any major American city, but it was actually based on a very real bar that the series creators visited while first developing the show! While that sounds like it could really be a great thing for a bar, given how immensely popular "Cheers" was in the 1980s, it actually ended up causing some rather interesting problems, especially for the bar's regulars.

The Academy Awards is that platform where films of every language get much-needed recognition. Hollywood has a long history in terms of cult classics and critically acclaimed films, including Titanic and Avatar. The majority of them have proved themselves deserving enough to get an Oscar.
There are directors, such as Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan, whose works are specifically known for different reasons. A bunch of those masterminds created something unique and amazing in their career but they were never considered worthy of an accolade at the Academy Awards. While the reasons remain unknown, here are 7 movies that could not make it to the list of winners at the prestigious award ceremony.

In the "The Simpsons" episode "Flaming Moe's, the put-upon bartender Moe Szyslak (Hank Azaria) finds his bar struggling to stay afloat in the wake of increased job satisfaction and family bliss in the city. Homer (Dan Castellaneta) suggests Moe try a new cocktail. Homer then reveals the recipe for a cough syrup-infused drink — the Flaming Homer — that becomes more flavorful after you set it on fire. Moe mixes one and it's an instant hit. Moe also instantly claims credit for inventing the drink, much to Homer's consternation.
The redubbed Flaming Moe is a huge success, and Moe's dive bar quickly grow into a massive event space where Aerosmith performs. Eventually Homer, fed up with not receiving any credit or money, reveals the secret ingredients and Moe's quickly returns to being a dive.

Ayo Edebiri‘s upgrade to lead for Season 2 of “The Bear” has been an unqualified success. She won the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Actress in January, along with the Screen Actors Guild Awards’ single comedy actress prize. In the midst of all that, she took home the Best Comedy Supporting Actress statuette for Season 1 at the delayed Emmy ceremony. And now Edebiri is the odds-on favorite to win the Best Comedy Actress Emmy for Season 2 in September, which would put her on a short list of women who’ve won both comedy lead and supporting trophies.

Ernie Hudson, the 78-year-old actor who has appeared in all five of the “Ghostbusters” movies and several “Ghostbusters” video games, spoke with The Independent about the franchise in the lead-up to “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.”
The role of Winston Zeddmore was originally offered to Eddie Murphy, and when that didn’t happen, his character’s screen time was greatly reduced. As such, Hudson’s pay was much smaller than that of the other three Ghostbusters, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis (the latter two also wrote the script). He also did not appear on any of the posters.
“It’s very tempting, sometimes, to blame anything that doesn’t work in your life on racism. But there are a lot of things that play into it. It’s not quite that simple,” he explained. “We can say it’s a racial thing, but I think if Eddie Murphy had played the role I played,...

You know, a wise man once said that sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name.
"Cheers" is one of the best and most popular sitcoms of all time. That's not hyperbole, either — critics and fans alike will sing the praises of the show until you can't stand it anymore. "Okay, I get it!" you'll say. "You love 'Cheers'! Leave me alone!" Running for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993, and starring Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Rhea Perlman, George Wendt, John Ratzenberger, Woody Harrelson, and more, "Cheers" was actually a flop during its first season, finishing last in the ratings during its premiere. Things were so bad, in fact, that the network almost pulled the plug. Eventually, though, "Cheers" found its audience, and that audience couldn't get enough of the barflies and bartenders who called the show home.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has been on for a record-breaking 16 seasons, making it the longest-running live-action sitcom of all time ... but, for some reason, it's never won an Emmy. Actually, it's never even been nominated for an Emmy, unless you count the three times the series was nominated for "Outstanding Stunt Coordination For A Comedy Series Or A Variety Program." The show has been around forever and continues to make people laugh and fans go absolutely rabid creating memes and video edits, so it honestly feels a bit absurd that it's never been honored with the biggest award in television. The gang even appeared on the 2024 Emmy Awards ceremony and poked fun at the fact that they had never been awarded, though Danny DeVito noted that he had.

The awards ceremony for the 74th Berlin International Film Festival kicks off Saturday night, where this year’s jury, headed by 12 Years a Slave and Black Panther actress Lupita Nyong’o, will hand out the coveted Gold and Silver Bears.

If the jury picks out Cake for the Golden Bear it would be the third time in 10 years —following Jafar Panahi’s Taxi (2015) and There Is No Evil (2020) from Mohammad Rasoulof —that Berlin has given its top honor to Iranian directors in absentia. If the jury picks out Cake for the Golden Bear it would be the third time in 10 years —following Jafar Panahi’s Taxi (2015) and There Is No Evil (2020) from Mohammad Rasoulof —that Berlin has given its top honor to Iranian directors in absentia. Nostalgia is Sega’s newest driving force as they look back from the past and pluck out some beloved classics from the cobwebs and drag them into the present day with the Aaa treatment. The Game Awards 2023 was the perfect event to announce the reboots of five titles with a small teaser but what really stood out and drove fans crazy was Crazy Taxi.
Excitement is an understatement especially if retro gamers and new players alike can share and experience legacy franchises in modern consoles but with the core game still in there, and Sega isn’t slowing down.
Remasters, reboots, and remakes are nothing new but when done right then it is justified. Crazy Taxi made its debut through arcade machines back in 1999 then got ported in superseding home consoles such as the DreamCast, PS2, GameCube, Xbox, and even in the form of handhelds like the PSP and Gba.

By the end of its fifth season, "Cheers" had become one of the most popular sitcoms on television. Every Thursday night, viewers tuned in to hang with the regulars at the Boston pub where everybody knows your name, and the gang always delivered. You could put the "Cheers" gang up against the very best in the history of the medium.
Most amazingly, the series didn't miss a beat when Woody Harrelson stepped in for Nick Colasanto after the latter's unexpected death. It just became a different kind of excellent.
And yet, as the show headed into its sixth season, no one was sure if "Cheers" could survive the departure of Shelley Long. The actor's combustible, Tracy-Hepburn chemistry with Ted Danson gave every episode the charge of the unexpected, and kept everyone in their orbit perpetually unsettled. Without her, the entire dynamic of the show might change, turning fans off a...

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all rights worldwide to “Between the Temples,” a comedy with Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane that earned strong reviews when it debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Nathan Silver, the film follows a forty-something cantor who is at a personal and professional crossroads. That’s when his grade-school music teacher re-enters his life as an adult bat mitzvah student, prompting the pair to form an unusual connection.
In a positive notice, Variety‘s Guy Lodge wrote, “Buoyed by the unlikely chemistry between its two stars, this alternately raucous and tender ‘Harold and Maude’ riff is the warmest work to date from microbudget auteur Nathan Silver.”
“Between the Temples” will have its international debut at the upcoming Berlin International Film Festival in the Panorama section. Schwartzman’s credits include “Rushmore,” “Asteroid City” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” Kane is the Oscar-nominated star...

The Berlin Film Festival has called on Iran to allow directors Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha to leave the country to attend the world premiere of their new film My Favorite Cake, which has been selected to screen in competition at the 74th Berlinale.
In a statement Thursday, the festival said that they have learned that Moghaddam and Sanaeeha have been banned from traveling, have had their passports confiscated by Iranian authorities, and face a court trial connected to their work as artists and filmmakers.

There are loads of tantalizing Hollywood casting what-ifs. Tom Selleck would've played Indiana Jones had he not been previously committed to CBS' "Magnum P.I." Pierce Brosnan was set to succeed Roger Moore as James Bond after "A View to a Kill," but NBC, realizing the star of their just-canceled "Remington Steele," was a hot commodity, resurrected the show for a fifth season (after which it was canceled again). And there's always poor Dougray Scott, who had to give up the role of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's "X-Men" when "Mission: Impossible II" went over schedule.
These were franchise- and career-altering decisions. What would Harrison Ford have done after the conclusion of the "Star Wars" original trilogy in 1983? Would Brosnan have rejuvenated the flagging Bond series, thus averting the six-year retooling period between "License to Kill" and "GoldenEye?" Could Scott have connected with audiences as emphatically as Hugh Jackman did in the role of Logan?...

Despite sharing a life and being in the same profession, husband-and-wife duo Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick haven’t starred in a film together in twenty years. Thankfully for us, that’s about to change as they’ll lead the Michael J. Weithorn-directed film Connescence. The project from Weithorn, who created the TV series The King of Queens, starring Kevin James, Leah Remini, and Jerry Stiller, begins principal photography this week with Victoria Hill and Greg Clark’s Fibonacci Films. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are thrilled to team up for Connescence, and Hollywood is ready to welcome the duo back to the silver screen.
Brittany O’Grady and Judd Hirsch join Bacon and Sedgwick as primary cast members. According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Connescence features Kevin Bacon as Stan Olszewski, “a sharp, funny, but chronically underachieving security guard, who breaks up an attempted robbery at the home of...

The classic sitcom "Taxi" has its fair share of interesting characters that work in New York City's Sunshine Cab Company, but arguably the tender heart at its center is boxer Tony Banta, played by Tony Danza. He's not always the brightest crayon in the box, but he's full of courage and love and would do just about anything for his friends. Despite being a bit of a womanizer early on, he's never cruel or lecherous like his boss Louie (Danny DeVito), and he is a fantastic friend to his co-worker Elaine (Marilu Henner). He's also surprisingly sweet despite his punchy side gig, serving as the template for later sitcom characters like Joey from "Friends." It's truly hard to imagine "Taxi" without him.
What's even harder to imagine is the character of Tony being played by anybody else. He's warm and earnest and bounces off great against some of the more cynical comedians on the cast.

It took a savvy comedy fan to know what Andy Kaufman was doing with his career. More than a mere funnyman, Kaufman tended to satirize the trappings of standup comedy, often using his routines to play pranks on the audience. As detailed in Miloš Forman's 1999 biopic "Man on the Moon," Kaufman wanted to host a TV special that contained artificial signal "static" in the hope that viewers would get up out of their seats and whack their "broken" TV sets. That's not funny for the audience, but it's certainly funny for Kaufman.
Part of Kaufman's satirical act was a whole separate stage persona named Tony Clifton, a foul-mouthed, alcoholic lounge singer who cussed and behaved badly. Clifton was also occasionally played by Kaufman's close friend and associate Bob Zmuda, allowing Clifton and Kaufman to occasionally appear in the same room, calling the reality of the character into question. There’s no IP more innately suited for adaptation as a pure two-hander than the tale of Adam and Eve, a story in which, initially at least, there are no other characters, excepting the creator of the universe, who quickly gets relegated to a supporting role in the wake of more fleshed-out human leads. Legendary television scenarist Ed. Weinberger has finally done the obvious and turned it into a two-person play in the style of “Love Letters,” read aloud from scripts, like A.R. Gurney’s highly portable, bare-bones model. Weinberger’s take on the world’s favorite creation myth, “The Journals of Adam and Eve,” premiered over the weekend with a very limited run at L.A.’s 110-seat Garry Marshall Theatre, where a total of six audiences saw that it was… good.

Totem Films, the Paris-based sales and production company known for arthouse breakouts such as “Compartment No. 6” and “Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry,” has boarded sales on “My Favourite Cake” by Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha. The Iranian writing-directing duo’s latest feature was just announced in competition at the upcoming Berlinale.
The film stars newcomer Lily Farhadpour as Mahin and renowned Iranian actor Esmail Mehrabi as Faramarz.
Seventy-year-old Mahin lives alone, until she decides to break her solitary routine and revitalize her love life. But as she opens up to romance, an unexpected encounter quickly evolves into an unforgettable evening.
Moghaddam and Sanaeeha said: “’My Favourite Cake’ is based on the reality of the everyday lives of middle-class women in Iran. The realities of women’s lives in Iran have hardly ever been told, yet this is a playful tale about hope and joy in life, as well as the absurdity of death.

The 2023 Emmys ceremony celebrated 75 years of television by staging reunions of some of your favorite shows, including FX’s long-running comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Cast members Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito came out on stage and poked fun at the Emmy Awards for never nominating them throughout their 16 seasons (and counting), but is that factually correct? Let’s consult the history books!
While it’s true that “Sunny” has never been nominated for any of the main Primetime categories — i.e. series, acting, writing and directing — the half-hour show did actually receive three bids in the little-known category of Best Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or Variety Program. “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” lost those three races to Nickelodeon’s “Supah Ninjas” in 2013 and to Fox’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” in 2014 and 2015.

The 75th Primetime Emmys was a somewhat predictable affair, with "Succession," "The Bear" and "Beef" winning nearly everything, but there was one creative choice that made it stand clearly above the Emmys of the past few years. The theme this time around was honoring the most beloved shows in TV history, which made for a far more interesting transition between awards than the usual random comedy schticks.

The postponed Emmys had far more great moments than bad, thank goodness — starting with the brisk, git’ ‘er done pace, which seemed particularly on brand for the scrappier-than-ever Fox. And though the night was packed with far too many anti-climactic moments (as if any show other than Succession would rack up all the trophies), the meet-cutes on stage made for fun TV and the sentimental interpretation of the title song from Friends during the In Memoriam segment was both appropriate and absolutely heartbreaking.
Best Moments

The cast of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has a bone to pick with the Emmys: They want an award.
Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito took the stage Monday night to present the award for Outstanding Talk Series.
“What an honor it is to be here at the 75th Emmy Awards,” Olson began.
“Wait, what?” Howerton interjected. “Seventy-five years? The show’s been on for 75 years? We’ve been on the air since 2005. I’ve never been here.”
“Have you guys been doing this every single year without us?” Day then asked.
“They do. They get dressed up. They give each other awards,” McElhenney said. “And 16 seasons we’ve never even presented before.”
Day then asked DeVito if the Emmys have ever given him an award, to which the man behind Frank Reynolds casually said, “Yeah.”

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has managed to stay on the air longer than any other live-action sitcom in television history because it constantly one-ups itself. Every episode is more extreme than the one before. The show has aired for 16 seasons and counting, yet it has never stopped taking big swings.
By season 7, the series creators wanted to continue to challenge themselves and make themselves laugh. So they came up with an outlandish and offensive premise — a child's beauty pageant that takes place in a bar. It might sound like one of the most inappropriate things to ever air on television, but of course, that's their bread and butter on "Sunny." However, series creator Glenn Howerton insists that the point of the show is not to push boundaries.

Illumination is a rare animation studio, in that they have landed upon a formula for the majority of their films and they seem perfectly content in hewing to that formula no matter what stories are being told. The studio thrives on mid-budget films that bring together a recognizable ensemble, some pop songs, and stories that feel vaguely cribbed from Pixar Animation Studios without being out-and-out plagiarism. Illumination, like DreamWorks, also leans heavily on turning its films into lengthy franchises, which has given us the obnoxious and leaden "Despicable Me" series (including its multiple "Minions" spin-offs), the obnoxious and leaden "Sing" films, and the obnoxious and leaden "The Secret Life of Pets" films. For this holiday season, Illumination is trying to do another original film, but much like the first "Secret Life of Pets", the new film "Migration" is original in name only, while feeling like a flavorless mishmash of "Finding Nemo" and "Ratatouille.

Frank Reynolds is one of the most deranged characters in the history of television, taking performer Danny DeVito's lewd, lascivious Louie DePalma character from "Taxi" and turning it up to 11. DeVito plays him as a total human disaster, complete with animal-like grunts, belches, and gurgles. It's hard not to laugh at Frank, but it might feel altogether different being in the same room with him, which is what happened to one "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" co-star early on in the series. DeVito isn't a method actor by any stretch of the imagination, but he does have a warm-up routine that helps him become Frank, and it totally freaked out one actor while filming the season 2 episode "Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom."

Nader Saeivar’s Iranian drama No End has been dropped from the official selection of the Hainan Island International Film Festival in what filmmakers say was an act of censorship by Chinese authorities.
ArtHood Entertainment, which is handling world sales for No End, told The Hollywood Reporter it received a confirmation from the Hainan Island festival on Nov. 19 that the Iranian drama had been picked to run in the main competition at the event. Two Saturday Night Live legends, Pete Davidson and Eddie Murphy, are joining forces for The Pickup, an upcoming comedy directed by Tim Story. The project hails from Amazon MGM Studios, with plot details remaining a mystery. Smoke on the street says The Pickup is a heist comedy with a script by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows.
In addition to his directorial duties, Story produces through his The Story Company banner, with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox, and Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster via Eddie Murphy Productions. The Story Company’s Vicky Mara Story, Davis Entertainment’s Jeremy Stein, and Kevin Burrows, Ross Fanger, and Matt Mider executive produce.
When he’s not the subject of paparazzi fodder or changing dating partners like fresh pairs of underwear, Davidson appears in films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, Dumb Money, and Good Burger 2. He recently completed his role for The Home.

The View hosted an epic reunion of the cast of Taxi, 45 years after the series premiered on ABC. The ladies hosted Danny DeVito, Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd, Judd Hirsch, Marilu Henner and Carol Kane for the celebration.

Added Hirsch, who played Alex Reiger, “We said, we gotta do this. If we’re not good, it’s not gonna work. They canceled shows left and right in those years.

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
"When I said I wanted to do a comedy it was like, 'Arnold, why would you waste that time?" Arnold Schwarzenegger, one of cinema's all-time great action heroes, recalled during an appearance on "The Nerdist" podcast in 2014. In the mid to late '80s, nobody could touch Schwarzenegger. From "Terminator" to "Predator" and films like "Commando," nearly everything the bodybuilder-turned-actor touched turned to gold. So why mess that up by trying to do a comedy? Or so that's what the moneymen in Hollywood thought. But Schwarzenegger had a vision and no was not an option. His resilience led to the biggest payday of his illustrious career. Of all things, that giant payday came from his 1988 comedy "Twins."

At the end of the first season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," the U.S.S. Enterprise had lost its chief engineer, Lieutenant Hemmer (Bruce Horak), to a Gorn egg that had been implanted inside his body. After a merry misadventure, Pelia decided she liked the Enterprise and its crew and signed onto a senior role on the ship. Pelia was unlike many of the more rule-oriented characters on "Strange New World," rarely abiding by protocol, hoarding strange art artifacts in her room, and generally ignoring orders. She was a wonderful addition to the show, and a worthy successor to the already-great Hemmer.
