Robert Pattinson and Parker Finn Remaking ‘Possession,’ the 1981 Isabelle Adjani Cult Horror Classic
“Because you say ‘I’ for me…” and, apparently, because Hollywood said, “Here’s yet another cult classic we can now remake for profit.” It was inevitable that in the recent years since Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 “Possession” has risen in status, a remake would come.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor/producer Robert Pattinson and “Smile” writer/director Parker Finn are attached to remount the body horror divorce nightmare that starred Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani as a couple coming apart. Per THR, studios including A24, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros. are engaged in a bidding war over the project, with meetings set to take place this week.
IndieWire has confirmed Pattinson’s involvement under his producing banner Icki Eneo Arlo; he’s not yet attached to star. No word yet from Parker Finn’s team.

Back in the mid-1990s, Robert Rodriguez wrote the screenplay for a Predator sequel that would be titled Predators… but the studio decided to put that one on the shelf for fifteen years before circling back to Rodriguez and giving him the chance to bring Predators to the screen. Rodriguez produced the movie and hired Alex Litvak and Michael Finch to rework his old script. The search for a director came down to two contenders: Control, Vacancy, and Armored director Nimród Antal and Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday director Neil Marshall. The job ended up going to Antal, but more than a decade later, Marshall is still hoping he’ll get his chance to make a Predator movie someday.
Marshall was asked about being in the running for Predators while speaking with Inverse, and he said, “As far as I’m aware, I got down to the last two directors.

“There’s something out there waiting for us, and it ain’t no man.”
The typical slasher movie formula sees a group of people, often teens, stalked and hunted by a relentless killer with bladed weapons. Predator, released in theaters on June 12, 1987, retooled the slasher rules, swapping out vulnerable adolescents with a well-armed elite military squad prepared to take on guerilla camps in the jungle. Yet, not even they were equipped for the extraterrestrial threat that targeted them as worthy prey.
Seeing special ops so effortlessly dispatched in the grisliest ways is one effective way to increase the threat level of any horror antagonist, alien or otherwise, but director John McTiernan layers in gradual reveals about the eponymous hunter in a way that launched a franchise and clinched the creature’s movie icon status.

Helldivers 2 is a brilliant co-op shooter on its own, but it isn’t afraid to take inspiration from other franchises in similar settings to add to itself. We can see how it draws from series like Starship Troopers and Left 4 Dead in some ways (the former more than the latter).
One Redditor, however, wants the game to adapt some elements from one of their favorite franchises. If this collaboration was ever brought to life, no doubt it would make a lot of people very, very happy.
Helldivers 2 x Alien Needs to Happen Helldivers 2‘s Terminids aren’t too far removed from the Xenomorphs.

The seventh Alien film is set to make its way into theaters this summer as Disney has confirmed that Alien: Romulus, which was directed by Fede Alvarez, will be released on August 16, 2024. This will be the first film in the franchise since Alien: Covenant, which failed to recapture the magic of the first two films. In fact, the franchise hasn’t been able to match the quality of Alien and Aliens and has suffered greatly in the mainstream because it hasn’t lived up to the legacy that James Cameron set. There isn’t much information on...

Ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Marvel Comics has been producing new comics set in both the Alien and Predator Universes. Wolverine has already clashed with the latter, but next up is a crossover we could once only ever dream of: Aliens vs. Avengers.
Written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Esad Ribić, the four-issue limited series takes place in a new Marvel timeline and pits older, grittier versions of Earth's Mightiest heroes against an invasion of Xenomorphs.
It also will be the first time readers will see certain parts of Alien lore in the Marvel Universe, such as the home of the Engineers. In what sounds like an unmissable series, Xenomorphs reach Earth, and the perfect organism meets a planet of superhumans. But who will be first to fall?
To celebrate this monumental moment in pop culture history, you'll be able to pick up five "Marvel vs. Alien" Variant Covers starting in July.

The sun may be setting on the Marvel empire but the tired old franchise might yet have a few tricks up its sleeves. Refusing to go down without a bang, the MCU has started to collect the debt from its past (and a few from the future). As a result, it’s finally time for Midnight Sons, the highly anticipated project to come to fruition after years of unfulfilled expectations and a grueling cinematic experience.
Midnight Sons [Credit: Marvel Comics]To Marvel’s credit, what the superhero vehicle lacks in quality, it more than makes up for in timing. After scarring people’s memories with movies like Thor: Love and Thunder and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the MCU seems to have shifted its gears back to neutral instead of driving in reverse. With Midnight Sons, the franchise can begin to heal its past mistakes and start anew.

Apple TV+ just dropped four sneak peeks from Season 2 of Silo, and all people can talk about is Rebecca Ferguson, and the absolute show-stealer she is. With her dazzling presence, Ferguson might just challenge Sigourney Weaver’s throne as the sci-fi queen.

In the escalating chaos of the modern world, it makes sense that some gamers would leave their action-adventures and first-person shooters behind in order to focus on more easy-going titles meant to simulate a less stressful life. While I’ve personally avoided this new genre of “cozy games” due to my obsession with survival horror, I couldn’t help but find myself becoming fascinated by the release of Black Salt Games’ Dredge back in 2023.
A bizarre mix of fishing simulator and Lovecraftian horror, this addicting trek into uncharted waters is a terrifying delight and one of the best indie experiences in recent years. I’m clearly not the only one who thinks so, as production company Story Kitchen has already announced that it’ll be turning the game into a live-action horror film set to release in the near future. Alien is back! It’s been seven years since the franchise has hit the big screen and it appears that the story is going back to basics. Alien: Romulus is being spearheaded by Fede Alvarez, who amazed audiences with Evil Dead (2013) and Don’t Breathe. There isn’t much detail about the story, though the brief synopsis does give you a solid overview: “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” The upcoming film has a relatively unknown cast, but so...

It's been over half a year now since we brought you news that The Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence is set to helm an adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk. Now, following hot on the heels of last week's announcement that Lawrence is set to direct Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes sequel Sunrise On The Reaping, we're learning more about the busy filmmaker's King-related plans. According to Deadline, Licorice Pizza star Cooper Hoffman and Rye Lane breakout David Jonsson are both in talks to lead Lionsgate's long-gestating adaptation.
Originally published under his Richard Bachman pseudonym in 1979, King's dystopian doorstop takes place in a world where 100 teenage boys — including sixteen-year-old Ray Garraty —take part in the annual "Long Walk" competition. The film features an all-star international cast, including Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Michelle Yeoh, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong, Cliff Curtis and Rose Byrne as scientists/astronauts on a mission to restart a dying sun before the Earth freezes.
Sunshine features all of the usual space movie tropes, including dangerous external repair job, a mysterious Sos beacon, and a disastrous previous mission, but the film’s legacy is an unconventional third act that turns the film into a slasher courtesy of mysterious character Pinbacker (Mark Strong).

Jordan Peele does not miss. After years of delighting audiences everywhere with subversive and hilarious sketches on "Key and Peele," Peele went on to become an Academy Award winning filmmaker with one of the best debut features in decades. "Get Out" remains a masterpiece of horror, a fantastic calling card for a new director and a hell of a debut that was followed by more phenomenal thrillers, each unique and still hugely entertaining.
Part of the magic of "Get Out" lies in the marriage of Peele's influences. You can clearly see this being the work of a filmmaker with a deep knowledge and passion for the horror genre, but also excellent comedic timing and sensibilities -- both of which were present in "Key and Peele." For the comedy, Peele allowed a great deal of improvisation, which made the horror even more poignant.

Nowhere is safe. This most basic of horror premises — and the sheer simplicity of its implications — has fueled countless classics and scares over the years. One of the biggest early surprises of this year's Tribeca Film Festival, "The Damned," takes this unsettling idea to even greater heights and establishes a can't-miss new talent cut from a similar cloth as Robert Eggers along the way. Icelandic writer/director Thordur Palsson (Netflix's "The Valhalla Murders" miniseries) makes his feature debut with a story set amid the late 1800s in a desolate fishing station, where a tiny Nordic community ekes out a living from a punishing environment that treats them as hostile invaders. The harsh (but gorgeously-shot) tundra and freezing waters trapping them on all sides lends a physical threat as imposing as the labyrinthine Nostromo in "Alien" or the research station in "The Thing." But in a supernatural wrinkle taken straight...

The Alien franchise makes its long-awaited return to theaters this August with Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus, but we will soon get to see the Xenomorph (Xenomorphs?) terrorize the small screen for the very first time in Noah Hawley's FX series.
Updates on the project have been few and far between since the main cast was announced last year, but thanks to a new rumor doing the rounds online, we may have a little more to go on.
Though he stresses that this may not be the final title, insider Daniel Richtman has heard that the show is currently being referred to as "Alien: Neverland."
The series is believed to be set three decades before the events of Ridley Scott's 1979 classic and a few years before Prometheus, and will find the characters "caught in a conflict with the beginning of artificial intelligence and the competition among developers and users.

In a summer full of movies underperforming at the box office, the old-fashioned star power of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence propelled Bad Boys: Ride or Die to a strong start this weekend with a $56 million opening. That’s at least $10 million more than even the most optimistic box office predictions (we predicted way less) and a strong rebound for Will Smith, whose box office prowess has been in question ever since the infamous Oscar slap seemingly hurt his brand.
Whatever the case, audiences seemed more than willing to embrace the star again. The Bad Boys four-quel posted the franchise’s second-biggest opening, following Bad Boys For Life, which started with $62 million in 2020. While some might view that as a bit of a comedown, let’s not forget that the business in movie theatres was much healthier in the pre-pandemic days. In May 2024, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos made a strange claim to The New York Times. Discussing "Barbenheimer," Sarandos insisted that the success of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" wasn't related to the fact that both were released in theaters and made an event out of physically going to the movies. "Both of those movies would be great for Netflix. They definitely would have enjoyed just as big an audience on Netflix," he said. That suggestion seems ... unlikely. But Sarandos wasn't done. "There's no reason to believe that the movie itself is better in any size of screen for all people," he said. "My son's an editor. He is 28 years old, and he watched 'Lawrence of Arabia' on his phone."
Leaving aside what a travesty that example is, Sarandos is simply incorrect. Many movies are, indeed, better when they're bigger, because the theatrical experience is beneficial for two main reasons. First,...

Since the mid-80s, the PG rating has been mostly exclusive to films aimed at kids, and even though there have been releases that pushed its boundaries, they’re few and far between. However, for a long time, this wasn’t the case, as before the PG-13 rating was introduced, films were either rated PG or R, with the latter only being reserved for extreme cases, such as Evil Dead.
This flawed system would finally undergo a massive change, thanks to Steven Spielberg and his blockbusters, especially Gremlins, which too earned a PG rating upon its release. But had the creators stuck to the initial draft of Chris Columbus, the horror would’ve definitely been given the same treatment as that of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead.

It looks like Timothy Olyphant shall be the chosen one.
The Hitman star is set to voice the terse, redoubtable Terminator – the epic character once portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator franchise – in the forthcoming anime series, Terminator Zero.

While replacing the legendary 76-year-old star is no short of a mammoth feat, fans seem to be excited about Olyphant’s casting as the voice actor for the cyborg assassin. At least half of the pressure must be alleviated for him after having secured the fandom’s support, and as for the other half, we’ll soon find out.

Director Fede Álvarez’s upcoming Alien: Romulus has generated significant buzz, especially with the recent release of a gripping new image featuring Cailee Spaeny. The film is set to blend the atmospheric horror of Ridley Scott’s Alien with the intense action of James Cameron’s Aliens. In a recent interview, Álvarez discussed how the movie transitions from the slow-burn terror that defined Scott’s original to the chaotic Xenomorph battles synonymous with Cameron’s sequel. He asks, To ask an Alien fan to choose between is a perverse question. So I thought, ‘How do I do both?’ This duality even extends...

Netflix has found the voice of its Terminator.
The streamer has cast Timothy Olyphant as the classic character in its upcoming animated series Terminator Zero.
The news was revealed at its Next on Netflix: Animation event in LA.
The series, which launches on August 29, is set in two time periods. In 2022, a future war has raged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. In 1997, the AI known as Skynet gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity.
Caught between the future and this past is a soldier sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who works to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity. After months of build-up, the hype for Fede Álvarez‘s “Alien: Romulus” is rounding into form, with a new trailer this week featuring the most footage from the upcoming film yet. But another project connected to the classic sci-fi franchise remains shrouded in mystery: Noah Hawley‘s “Alien” series for FX. Fans knows a little bit about the show so far: it’s a prequel to Ridley Scott‘s 1979 original; it premieres on FX On Hulu sometime in 2025; and it’s still in production in Thailand through the summer.

The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, a show that began filming last year, then had to halt production after a month due to the actors strike. Filming resumed earlier this year, and continues to this day, although Hawley has already finished the episodes he directed himself. He’s doing his best to keep the details under wraps – but during a new interview on the Deadline podcast Crew Call, he revealed that Hulu is hoping to release the first two seasons of the show close together.
Hawley said, “They’re saying maybe don’t do two things at once on this show… their hope is to put a season two as close to season one as possible.” As for how involved executive producer Ridley Scott is with the series – it turns out, he’s not very involved at all.

It’s the age-old argument: Alien or Aliens? The haunted-house horror movie, or the action-packed war film? The lean, dread-filled original, or the bigger, beefier sequel? Both Ridley Scott’s original Xenomorph outing and James Cameron’s exemplary sequel stand tall among the greatest sci-fi films of all time – each with a strong and valid claim for being the best of the bunch. But when deciding the direction in which to take his sequel, Alien: Romulus, filmmaker Fede Alvarez hit upon the ideal solution: why not a hybrid of the two?
“To ask an Alien fan to choose between them is a perverse question,” he tells Empire, in our world-exclusive new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice issue. “So I thought, ‘How do I do both?’” Get ready, then, for a film that aims to conjure the slow-build scares of Alien with the oh-god-they’re-everywhere assault of Aliens, set at a point between the...

If you’ve seen the films of Fede Alvarez, you’ll know the man doesn’t mess around. His 2013 Evil Dead culminates in one of the bloodiest finales ever to grace the screen; his Don’t Breathe takes a juicy and brutal premise (home invaders sneak into a house they really shouldn’t have) and drives it straight to hell. So, handed the keys to the Alien saga, it’s not surprise to see that Alvarez is going straight for the jugular – this second trailer for Alien: Romulus is a foot-on-the-gas ripper, promising intense interstellar carnage set between the events of Alien and Aliens. When it came to delivering one of the most twisted and politically thrilling Fargo seasons ever, creator Noah Hawley says it didn’t entail him ripping up a ton of scripts to get there.
“I’m a big believer that the first idea is a good idea,” says the Primetime Emmy winner, “I trust my instincts.”
His trick: Plow through, no writers’ block.
Season 5 centers around Juno Temple’s Dot Lyon. While it appears she’s just a simple homemaker, she has a dark past that’s connected to Jon Hamm’s red state, criminal rancher, Roy Tillman. Not to mention, beware those who even try to murder her. Complicating life more is Dot’s notorious debt financing mother-in-law played, Lorraine Lyon, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh.
You can listen to our latest chat with Hawley below:

Vincenzo Natali nearly died while making his first movie, “Cube.”
Made on a shoestring budget, his 1997 psychological horror only had one practical set — a huge, boobie-trap-filled cuboid prison to house the film’s action and drama — and at one point, it nearly fell on him.
Thankfully, it didn’t. But the bad luck didn’t stop there. By the time he’d finished making his genetically modified body-horror “Splice,” the process had proven so difficult, drawn-out, and stressful that it had turned the then-40-year-old director’s hair gray.
“It was like having a child,” Natali, laughing, told IndieWire as his cult-hit creation turns 15. “If I didn’t care about the movie as much as I care about my own children, my hair wouldn’t have turned gray. It’s because I wanted this thing to exist so badly. Making [‘Splice’] was so stressful, it made me sick. I had something no doctor could identify,...

1992's "Alien 3" was advertised with the tagline "The B*tch is Back" and the new trailer for the upcoming "Alien: Romulus" implicitly carries that same promise. True, original "Alien" protagonist Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is nowhere to be seen, but a new crew of future victims has a Xenomorph infestation to deal with.
This trailer proves that, for better or worse, director Fede Álvarez knows his sh*t when it comes to "Alien." Based on this two-minute preview, a group of young people — headlined by Rain Carradine — break into an abandoned space station, hoping that whatever is inside can buy them a better life. Instead, they stumble onto hibernating facehuggers that soon get loose. Things predictably go downhill.
This sounds like a streamlined version of the original 1979 "Alien," where the Nostromo investigated a crashed alien ship and brought the Xenomorph back onto theirs. The set design and imagery of "Romulus" echoes the original too,...

Alien: Romulus’ Pure Horror Finally Echoes the 1979 Original - Main Image
When Ridley Scott’s Alien released in 1979, theater-goers vomited and fainted at the pure horror projected in front of them. In the 45 years since, not a single film in the long-running franchise has matched the shock of the original, but Alien: Romulus is finally delivering the terror fans have been missing.
Set in the 57-year interval between Alien and Aliens, Romulus focuses on a young cast colonists exploring an abandoned space station, not unlike Alien Isolation.
As expected with any film in the franchise, the cosmic horror of the Xenomorph is released and lives are lost in particularly gruesome ways.
First Romulus Trailer Gives Hope to Original Alien Fans
Alien: Romulus’ first full trailer shows off exactly what the franchise has been missing for almost half a century: pure, unbridled horror.

Following yesterday’s official trailer release, the MPA rating for director Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus has arrived. No surprise here, but it’s rated “R.”
Alien: Romulus, arriving in theaters August 16, is specifically rated “R” for…
“Bloody violent content and language.”
There was a time when Alien and Predator fans were worried about Disney sanitizing both franchises when they got their hands on them. Thankfully, it’s clear that’s not happening.
In Romulus, “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy, Pacific Rim Uprising) leads the cast alongside Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.

We have reached a point in cinema where two upcoming Disney movies have officially been rated R and it has interestingly come as no surprise. According to FilmRatings.com, Alien: Romulus has officially received its R rating for bloody violent content and language, while Deadpool & Wolverine has also been rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore and sexual references. More adult-oriented movies with stronger ratings have been released by Disney in the past. However, they would usually be released under different banners like the now-defunct Touchstone Pictures or Hollywood Pictures instead of the actual Magic Kingdom castle.
These two films being given their natural R ratings was expected as their usual nature and tone in past films would naturally be capitalized on for appeal. Interestingly, both franchises have dabbled in PG-13 territory as the Alien films would get a more adventure-filled entry with the film Alien vs. Predator,...

Science fiction cinema came of age in the 1950s, beginning an ascent out of the drive-in schlock market that culminated in the boldly experimental yet still commercially viable efforts of the 1960s. That fed directly into the next decade, with sci-fi in the 1970s taking on (for the most part) the same subversive attitude as most other movies made during that era.
But sci-fi movies also entered blockbuster territory in the ‘70s as demonstrated by the massive success of films like Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman: The Movie, Logan’s Run, and Alien. The studios realized that sci-fi could be a cash cow, and as the 1980s dawned, decided to ramp up their genre output, not to mention their budgets, with elaborate visual effects, bigger stars, and more action—even if some of the more cerebral concepts espoused in the earlier decades’ films took a bit of a back seat.

The second trailer for Alien: Romulus contains all kinds of twisted xenomorph horror. We’ve been having a closer look at the finer details.
Nb: The following contains conjecture and general theorising that may be considered spoiler-y. Nothing that hasn’t been revealed in the new trailer, though.
If March’s teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus played coy, this week’s promo, lasting a full two minutes, is where director Fede Alvarez really bears his teeth. In fact, this writer’s initial reaction was that the new trailer for the upcoming Alien film gives away a little too much.
On closer inspection, though, it cleverly drops all sorts of hints without spoiling too many specifics. The first minute, in particular, merely fleshes out what we’ve already gleaned from various loglines and interviews. Its events take place between Alien and Aliens, and sees a group of six scavengers board an abandoned Weyland Yutani space station.
