Everybody knows that NCIS is one of the biggest TV franchises there is, but what if we tell you that there are even more shows that share the same universe with the series than those which have NCIS in their names.
Sounds intriguing? Then check out our list and the advice on how to watch all the shows in correct order.
10. Jag
Everything started with Jag. It actually gave the start to the whole franchise, and it surprises us that not so many fans actually knew about it. The two episodes that made it all happen were Ice Queen and Meltdown, both from season 8. In these episodes the many NCIS characters were introduced, like Jethro Gibbs, Anthony Dinozzo and others. After that, when NCIS premiered, it featured many Jag characters as well.
So if you never heard of the show but consider yourself a NCIS fan, it’s time to binge Jag right now.

There’s a reason why Tom Selleck refers to the original Magnum, P.I. television series as just “Magnum” — and it has nothing to do with it being simple shorthand.
Selleck’s 352-page memoir, You Never Know, was released earlier this month (days after the 36th anniversary of Magnum, P.I.’s series finale), and when rummaging for something to read outdoors on a lazy Memorial Day Weekend afternoon, I remembered that I had been floated an advanced copy. Before I knew it, I had plowed through the entire back half of the book, which covers the shooting of the Magnum pilot,...

Unless you've been living under a rock recently, you're aware that movie theaters have been in a tough spot for nearly half a decade now, if not longer. Various factors have contributed to this, of course -- everything from the Covid-19 pandemic to the economy itself contributing to higher prices for a night out at the movies (especially for a family). Yet perhaps the biggest point of contention for those not fully inducted into the church of moviegoing is that old chestnut coined by Jean-Paul Sartre: Hell is other people.
Due to being at the tail end of several decades' worth of manufacturers and big box stores pushing home theater technology, the average living room theater setup tends to rival most generic movie theater screens in terms of picture and sound quality, with the convenience of the setup already being in one's home, away from loud talking randos and teens on their bright smartphones,...

As J. Cole put a bow on this year’s Dreamville Festival, he worked an apology heard-’round-hip-hop into the introduction to one of his biggest and most sentimental songs, “Love Yourz.” “The past two days have felt terrible,” he said, earnestly admitting he’s lost sleep over “7 Minute Drill,” his nuanced but ill-received jab back at Kendrick Lamar for dissing him and Drake (mostly Drake) on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.”

J. Cole has issued a public apology to Kendrick Lamar for the diss track he included on his newly released project, Might Delete Later.
On the closing track, “7 Minute Drill,” J. Cole claimed Lamar had fallen off “like The Simpsons” and mocked his recent musical output. Cole rapped about Lamar, “Your first shit was classic, your last shit was tragic/ Your second shit put n***as to sleep but they gassed it/ Your third shit was a massive hit, that was your prime/ I was trailing right behind but I just now hit mine/ Now I’m front of the line with a comfortable lead/ How ironic, soon as I got it now he want something with me.”
Less than 48 hours after releasing the project, however, Cole was already expressing regret. Speaking during his set at the Dreamvillle Music Festival on Sunday night, Cole said, “I am so proud of that project,...

Metro Boomin warned us before he and Future dropped We Don’t Trust You: “Pick a side.”
As J. Cole has learned over the past 12 hours, anyone not firmly on one side of the Drake and Kendrick Lamar divide is liable to get caught in the crossfire. Although acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky stated that he would be directing an Elon Musk biopic at A24, this is not going to be his next movie, if reports are true. Namely, recent news suggests that Aronofsky is actually working on a crime thriller based on a book by Charlie Huston. The movie’s title is probably going to be Caught Stealing and as Empire confirms, the movie will star Oscar-nominee Austin Butler in the main role of Hank Thompson.
While speaking to Deadline, Aronofsky said the following about his upcoming project:
“I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers.”

Austin Butler is continuing his auteur collaborations, this time partnering up with Darren Aronofsky.
Butler, who was Oscar-nominated for his breakout transformative “Elvis” role, is set to lead Aronofsky’s upcoming feature “Caught Stealing.” Novelist Charlie Huston will adapt his own work for the screen. Protozoa is producing the Sony crime thriller. The novel is the first installment of Huston’s Henry Thompson trilogy series.
“Caught Stealing” was originally set for an adaptation in 2013 with Patrick Wilson cast in the lead role, now occupied by Butler. The story follows Hank Thompson, a former high school baseball prospect turned alcoholic bartender who gets caught up in a treasure hunt through New York City. A sadistic police officer tries to outrun Thompson, hitmen, and mobsters to find the treasure. Alec Baldwin was cast as the cop in the 2013 iteration that was slated to be written by David Hayter and directed by Wayne Kramer.

Before he had the budget to stage elaborate films like “The Fountain” and “Noah,” Darren Aronofsky got his start with “Pi,” a microbudget indie that hit theaters in July 1998. Shot in stark black and white, the story of an obsessive mathematician looking for the number that can unlock the secret to nature received acclaim and earned Aronofsky a Director’s Prize at Sundance, but faded into relative obscurity as he broke through to the mainstream with “Requiem for a Dream” and “Black Swan.” But in 2023, “Pi” got a new lease on life when Aronofsky sold the film’s rights to A24, and the studio celebrated with a 25th-anniversary re-release of the film in IMAX theaters. The re-release happened on — you guessed it — Pi Day.
One year later, A24 is celebrating Pi Day again with two new releases. The first is an all-new Blu-ray release of the film, which is available...

A24 is really getting big. And we now mean that literally.
The indie studio is partnering with IMAX to re-release some of its most beloved films on IMAX screens, remastering movies from its library as part of a monthly screening series that will continue into 2025.
It kicks off with Alex Garland’s “Ex Machina” on March 27, followed by Ari Aster’s ‘Hereditary” on April 24, and the Safdie Brothers’ “Uncut Gems” on May 22. The screening of “Ex Machina” will precede a special sneak peek of Garland’s next movie with A24, “Civil War,” which also opens on IMAX screens on April 12.
Other titles haven’t been announced yet, but the studio will dig through its library of more than 140 feature films for future screenings. Can we humbly request “The Green Knight,” “Moonlight,” and “Under the Skin”?

Tom Selleck is one of the most well-known television actors in Hollywood at present. A decorated thespian, Selleck has an arms-length list of accolades to his name. He has appeared in several popular shows, such as the long-running Blue Bloods and Magnum, P.I., playing the titular character, for which he received several Emmy Award nominations. Given Selleck’s standing in the television industry, he is also one of the richest actors around.
Tom Selleck‘s acting genius is not just limited to television, though. He has also acted in movies, such as Three Men and a Baby (1987) and its sequel, Three Men and a Lady (1990), where he played the bachelor architect, Peter Mitchell. Moreover, Selleck cemented his name in pop culture when he played Dr. Richard Burke, Monica Geller’s love interest, on Friends.

Searching for and listening to movie soundtrack music for the year is an active quest of curiosity, discovery, and collage. For those fatigued and pushing through the chilliest season, I hope this mix can provide both energy and warmth, as it did to me in making it.Trends in film music over the last decade are continuing strong in 2023, particularly in the ambition of independent auteurs using complex and unusual scoring. The foundation for this mix is Angela Schanelec's beautiful and aptly titled Music, which provides both diegetic and non-diegetic moments to guide us. Samples range from The Old Oak, in which classical choral choir meets Syrian guitar and words of hope that now hit harder than ever, to a mix of sentimental strings courtesy of the legendary Joe Hisaishi. Abstract experimental sounds by two completely different kinds of artists—Harmony Korine and Thomas Newman—are mixed with sliced...

After directing a trifecta of progressively weirder genre films — "Ex Machina," "Annihilation," and "Men" — Alex Garland is delivering another vision of a possible future with his upcoming sci-fi film "Civil War." Produced by acclaimed indie studio A24, "Civil War" has been described by Garland as a "companion piece to 'Men' in some ways." The cast includes Kirsten Dunst ("The Power of the Dog"), Wagner Moura ("Narcos"), Sonoya Mizuno ("House of the Dragon"), Cailee Spaeny ("Priscilla"), and Stephen McKinley Henderson ("Dune").
Though Garland has been cagey with plot details in the lead-up to this trailer release, he did reveal that "Civil War" is "set at an indeterminate point in the future — just far enough ahead for me to add a conceit." He also told The Telegraph that the film is a sci-fi allegory for the increasingly sharp political divides in society, and warned that it's "going to wind some people up.

"This is your life! Right here, right now!" The famed art house cinema in New York called Metrograph has introduced a new screening series of movies called 25Y2K. They're borrowing inspiration from the brilliant Crtierion Channel collections, featuring a thematic selection of iconic movies to feature in a special package. This time they're looking back at Y2K, and the "Millennium Bug", and how it affected cinema. "A computer glitch that was supposed to drown the world in darkness—[was] on everyone's lips, the air thick with the anticipation of apocalypse. Did that anxiety impress itself on some of the finest films?" Definitely. They're showing classics like Fight Club, Pi, The Truman Show, American Psycho, Strange Days, Audition, Being John Malkovich, Vanilla Sky, American Beauty, and others. To promote the series, Metrograph cut together a quick trailer with Fatboy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now" which samples a line from the film Strange Days.

In 2000, Darren Aronofsky released his sophomore feature film, Requiem for a Dream. Following on from the success of his underground hit, Pi, he stunned the cinematic world once again with his poignant story of drug abuse. The plot follows four people from Coney Island who have their existence thrown into turmoil as drug addiction takes over their lives. Requiem for a Dream launched the careers of many involved and quickly became a cult classic. With a blistering soundtrack that looms over the movie with sense of dread, Aronofsky’s drama hooks the viewer with its flawed but oddly relatable characters.

Fresh off his appearance on IndieWire’s Best Performances of the 80s list, David Byrne will be bringing down the house — hopefully packed movie theater houses.
A24 is gearing up for its re-release of Jonathan Demme’s adored Talking Heads concert documentary “Stop Making Sense” at TIFF and in a Global IMAX Live event on September 11, with the film rolling out to the general public in the weeks after. Watch the trailer below.
The distributor had previously released a 40-second teaser that showed Byrne picking up his laundry and getting back… the big suit! The comically oversized, boxy suit the buttoned-down singer/songwriter wears during the latter part of the concert during songs like “Girlfriend Is Better.” In that teaser, he put it on again and did his trademark wiggle, the awkward-chic moves that, along with many other things, have endeared him to audiences the past four decades.

Shelley Smith, the statuesque super model who starred alongside Martin Short on a sitcom and was a regular on game shows like The $10,000 Pyramid before she launched an egg-donor program to assist infertile couples, has died. She was 70.
Smith died Tuesday at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, her husband of 18 years, actor Michael Maguire, tearfully announced on social media. She had been in a coma after experiencing cardiac arrest three days earlier, and her health had deteriorated in the past year, he said.
On the 1979-80 ABC comedy The Associates, a sequel of sorts to The Paper Chase from creators James L. Brooks, Ed. Weinberger, Stan Daniels and Charlie Hauck, Smith played a sharp, upper-class Bostonian who works at a Wall Street law firm.
The show, which also featured Short, Joe Regalbuto, Alley Mills and Wilfrid Hyde-White — with whom she graced the cover of TV Guide in November 1979 — lasted just 13 episodes.

In a tough moment for the economics of TV, NBCUniversal went to market with a greater emphasis on big tentpole events and a little less on individual TV shows and specific networks.
The Comcast-backed media conglomerate believes advertiser interest in larger properties such as the 2024 Olympics, a planned celebration of the 50th season of “Saturday Night Live” and its annual “BravoCon” helped buoy its efforts in TV’s annual “upfront” market, when U.S. media companies try to sell the bulk of their advertising inventory ahead of their next cycle of programming. NBCU expects this year’s upfront negotiations to generate “total cash commitments roughly in line with last year,” says Mark Marshall, the company’s interim chairman of global advertising and partnerships, in an interview. NBC is adjusting its fall schedule now that the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strike is underway. The network still has plenty of original scripted dramas occupying its revised fall schedule, with the second half of Season 5 of Magnum P.I. leading the charge. Initially, Magnum P.I. was supposed to return midseason. However, the crime drama is moving to Wednesday nights, joined by Quantum Leap, the new series Found, The Irrational, and the Canadian medical drama Transplant.
Previously, we reported that ABC’s plans to lean on reality TV are changing the network’s approach to its fall schedule. Meanwhile, CBS is going hard in the paint with competition series and the addition of shows like Yellowstone. Fox is making fewer adjustments as the network sticks to non-scripted and animated entertainment.

NBC is shaking up its fall schedule, most notably moving up the final season of “Magnum, P.I.” to this fall.
Amid the historic double SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike, new seasons of three shows in the “Chicago” franchise, including “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” and two “Law & Order” series — “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu” — which were set to hold down Wednesday and Thursday night programming, respectively, have been delayed. The second season of “Night Court” and “Extended Family,” both of which were scheduled to air Tuesdays, are also being held.
While Monday programming will remain untouched with airings of “The Voice” Season 24 and new series “The Irrational” debuting Sept. 25, NBC has added an additional Tuesday airing of “The Voice,” which will be followed by new series “Found,” which premieres Oct. 3 at 10 p.m., shifting from its previous Thursday timeslot.

It comes as NBC’s rivals largely moved into the unscripted arena for their fall schedules with ABC relying on reality fare, CBS ramping up its competition series and adding some sister shows such as Yellowstone, and Fox sticking with non-scripted and animation.

A tiger on the loose terrorizing the inhabitants of an unnamed city becomes the launching pad for a meditation on love, loss and grief in Romanian filmmaker Andrei Tănase’s feature debut, “Day of the Tiger.” The film, which had its world premiere in the Bright Future strand at the Intl. Film Festival Rotterdam, plays this week at the Transilvania Film Festival.
The movie follows Vera (Cătălina Moga), a rundown and emotionally drained veterinarian grappling with some unknown grief as she plods through her daily routine at the zoo. She’s suddenly shaken by the arrival of a tiger that was being kept as a pet by a local gangster, awakening her long-dormant nurturing instincts.
But revelations about Vera’s failing marriage soon rise to the surface. And as the vet and local authorities play a dangerous cat-and-mouse game to catch the escaped tiger, she must engage in her own...

Few filmmakers from the past quarter century embody the indie filmmaking dream better than Darren Aronofsky. After bursting onto the scene with his microbudget debut feature “Pi” in 1998, he has gradually made his way through bigger and bigger projects without compromising his signature worldview. From Oscar-winning prestige dramas like “Black Swan” and “The Whale” to blockbusters such as “Noah,” Aronofsky is the rare director who has found ways to bend every level of the film industry ecosystem to his personal style at one point or another.
His eclectic career has seen him work in a variety of genres, from esoteric sci-fi dramas and psychological thrillers to full on Biblical epics. But after a quarter century, it’s increasingly easy to look back and examine the themes that Aronofsky keeps returning to. His films frequently feature deep dives into the complexities of the human mind, examining the way obsessions and addictions...
