Prolific author Anthony Horowitz has scripted mystery drama Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue, here are the details.
Anthony Horowitz is perhaps best known for creating the Alex Rider franchise, which so far comprises fourteen novels, seven short stories, a critically maligned 2006 film and a popular television drama on Amazon Prime, the third and final series of which aired last month. He has also written many standalone novels and the terrific Horowitz Horror books of horror stories for older children.
However, he is just as prolific writing for the screen, creating the brilliant time travel drama Crime Traveller, which starred Michael French and Red Dwarf star Chloe Annett, ITV drama Foyle’s War and the television adaptation of his novel Magpie Murders.
His latest series is Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue, which has been acquired by the BBC. The synopsis reads as follows:

Somehow it seems fitting that on a week when we’re mourning the great Angela Lansbury, who for 12 years played one of TV’s most beloved female sleuths, PBS‘ Masterpiece Mystery! franchise devotes its entire Sunday lineup for the next six weeks to three very different series where women take the leading role in discovering whodunit. Jessica would be so proud. Magpie Murders (Credit: Eleventh Hour Films/Nick Wall/PBS) A mystery lover’s delight, Magpie Murders is a whodunit wrapped in a whodunit, an homage to the genre’s most revered classics that adds clever twists of its own. Anthony Horowitz (Foyle’s War) adapts his bestselling novel, and if the TV version lacks some of the book’s formal brilliance and literary showmanship, it’s still a superior brainteaser. “Is there anything more useless than a whodunit without the ending?” barks veteran editor Susan Ryeland (the delightful Lesley Manville...

Exclusive: Anthony Horowitz believes his upcoming Magpie Murders adaptation is “the first time I’ve really got it right,” and has stated he will no longer write on classic TV murder mysteries.
The renowned UK author has adapted many of his novels for TV including Stormbreaker, The Diamond Brothers and South By South East, but Horowitz thinks PBS Masterpiece/BritBox’s Magpie Murders from Jill Green’s Eleventh Hour Films is a greater achievement.
The six-parter took two years to pen and involved around half a dozen drafts, Horowitz told Deadline, and while the mystery-within-a-mystery format threw up a multitude of challenges, the author said this is “the first time I’ve really got it right.”
“The whole book-within-a-book thing is really difficult,” he explained. “In the book the mysteries happen one at a time whereas in the show I wanted to do them simultaneously and that gave me the...

Timothy Spall will star alongside Lesley Manville in the Masterpiece, BritBox UK and Eleventh Hour Films adaptation of “Magpie Murders,” Anthony Horowitz’s international bestseller.
Spall will play detective Atticus Pünd in the mystery-within-a-mystery in “Magpie Murders.” In the story, book editor Susan Ryeland (Manville) sits down to read the latest manuscript written by her popular author, Alan Conway, the writer behind the popular Atticus Pünd mystery series. When she discovers that its final chapter is missing, she goes to Conway’s house only to find his dead body. The story goes back and forth between the cozy case Pünd was trying to crack and Ryeland’s investigation of what happened to Conway.
Horowitz, who created the BBC mystery shows “Foyle’s War” and “Midsomer Murders,” has adapted “Magpie Murders” as a six-episode series. Production begins next week in England and Ireland, and “Magpie Murders” will air on Masterpiece on PBS next year.

Subsequently recruited by MI6 subdivision the Department of Special Operations, Alex undergoes a transformative training process for a job that uproots his adolescent life.
The second season renewal of Alex Rider arrives, via Deadline, shortly after the TV series made its June 4 debut, specifically in the franchise’s homefront, on Amazon U.K. However, while it has yet to arrive in most countries, including the U.S., Sony is reportedly close to landing a deal for platforms in the U.S., Australia and China.

Welcome to an April that’s sure to be unlike any other. Usually this time of year means getting outdoors in the nice weather or catching a baseball game or two. Obviously 2020 had different plans for us all. Now Amazon Prime has unveiled its new releases for April 2020 to give us an idea of what indoor entertainment options we have.
April 2020 is pretty thin on original series for Amazon Prime. Thankfully two of the few launches are big ones. Sci-fi anthology series Tales from the Loop launches on April 3 and looks to be quite bingeable. Amazon Prime is no stranger to sci-fi anthologies thanks to Philip K. Jame Bond author Anthony Horowitz has cast the lead roles in his new BBC One crime drama New Blood.
No Offence actor Ben Tavassoli and The Mill's Mark Strepan will take on the lead roles of junior investigators Rash and Stefan.
Apparently, it'll be the first time that the Serious Fraud Office and police have worked together on screen, as the two are brought together by a link between two seemingly unrelated cases.
The crime-solving duo will come up against rich and powerful individuals, corporations and governments that are protected by an army of lawyers.
Anthony Horowitz said: "When I created a hero who was Polish/British and another who was Iranian/British, I never expected that we'd actually find the real thing but with Mark and Ben we've done exactly that.
"They really are the 'new blood' that the title promises and I'm confident that they're going to...

Streaming service Acorn TV, which specializes in programming from across the pond, makes its Emmys debut this year with two strong contenders for Best TV Movie: "Agatha Christie's Poirot: Curtain, Poirot's Last Case" and "Foyle's War: Elise, The Final Mystery." Honeysuckle Weeks has played the part of Samantha Stewart (Wainwright), trusty aide to a detective, in Anthony Horowitz's period drama "Foyle's War" since 2002. As she says in our webcam chat (watch below), "it's a third of my lifetime, a part of my life when I have had the most changes happen, marriage, children, illness, the usual slings and arrows that life besets you with." -Break- The first six seasons were set in a seaside town during WWII and followed a police detective (Michael Kitchen) and his assistant as they solved crimes. The final two took the pair to post-war London where they become ensnared in the mysterious world of espionage. Foyle made an unlikely spy and spent as much time navigating the labyrinth that is Mi-5 as he did righting wrongs. And while Sam found herself a fellow, rising politican Adam Wainwright, and got hitched, she continued to keep her hand in the game.

Mary McNamara makes the case that "Foyle's War" deserves as much Emmy attention as "Sherlock" has been receiving lately. That BBC set of telefilms was able to snag awards for lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch and supporting actor Martin Freeman at last year's ceremony. She calls "Foyle's War" the "Mona Lisa of television: small, quiet, utterly hypnotic and mysteriously perfect." Now streaming on Acorn TV, the British production is finally eligible at the Emmys for the first time in its long run. The final installment "Elise" stars Michael Kitchen and Honeysuckle Weeks. L.A. Those top names are Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Angelina Jolie, Shakira, Ellen DeGen.

The Babadook Along with It Follows, The Babadook is a bit of a re-energizer in the horror genre, delivering mood and atmosphere over jump scares and gore. Sullivan's Travels (Criterion Collection) I am woefully behind on my Criterion reviews as I have been inundated with my day-to-day duties and screeners, but I will be catching up soon and Preson Sturges' Sullivan's Travels will be one of the first ones I get to.
