Pirates of the Caribbean, a film stemmed from a Disney’s theme park attraction, has become one of the biggest media franchises for the studio, expanding into five films with numerous beloved characters, including Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. The character, depicted as a rogue pirate, who is a little drunk all the time, became a fan-favorite for his charismatic and adventurous personality.

While he is not usually represented as a hero, as he lacks plenty of conventional heroic traits, the filmmakers did try to develop the character closely in a heroic light in the third installment of the franchise, At World’s End, which remained unseen due to a deleted cut.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise can easily be called one of the most beloved and successful series of all time. The entire cast is full of massively talented actors, and every single aspect of the series is well thought-out, especially when it comes to the first three films.
Pirates of the Caribbean [Credit: Walt Disney Studios]Having been known as one of the best trilogies out there, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End are certainly regarded as the better parts of the series. This is especially true for the third film, as many fans adore the final sequence of the movie.
With this, many audiences would be surprised to know that when the 2007 film went into production, its script wasn’t even finished.

The thought of a Pirates of the Caribbean film without Johnny Depp isn’t something many fans find comfort in. However, the upcoming film has been leaning mostly towards that very possibility. For all five films so far, the actor has been front and center in each and every one of them. Disney had taken the tough and controversial decision of firing Depp in the course of the defamation trial against Amber Heard.

Although a 6th part of the franchise was in the works at that time, the chances seem nonexistent of his return. The film was scrapped altogether. However, it has been picked up once again with many renowned celebrities rumored to be a part of the film. Depp’s name isn’t one of them. That is not to say that he may not return. At least,...

Why did fans love Our Flag Means Death? This series was a big upgrade for the on-screen pirates – they no longer sail the seas in search of mystical artifacts as in the cult Pirates of the Caribbean. Our Flag Means Death shows the pirates of a new era – they are absurd, humorous, and surprisingly vulnerable.
Our Flag Means Death was also an ode to escapism. In the hands of screenwriter David Jenkins, the story of an aristocrat-turned-pirate is transformed into a funny and poignant exploration of escapism as a way out of a mental crisis.
However, the devoted love of the fans did not save Our Flag Means Death from cancellation after the second season, and it continued a series of Taika Waititi's axed projects. In early 2023, the series Reservation Dogs was completed, and then the last, sixth season of What We Do in the Shadows was released.

Margot Robbie’s long-rumoured Sims movie has now reportedly got the green light from Amazon MGM.
The Sims is a game that most millennials grew up playing. We were immersed and invested in the intricate lives of the characters on our old, boxy PCs in the early-2000s and occasionally, accidentally set things on fire.
We reported in March that a film based on The Sims was in the works, with Loki-director Kate Herron helming it and Margot Robbie producing through her LuckyChap banner. Now, Puck News (via Dark Horizons) is reporting that the film has found a home with Amazon MGM.
Screen Rant mentions that Netflix’s bid for the film’s rights was higher, but Amazon MGM ultimately won by promising the film a theatrical release.

Let’s be real here: Pirates of the Caribbean hasn’t been the same since the original trilogy’s finale. The last two movies were mediocre at best, but we still watched them, and there was only one reason we did — Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.
But while Disney stubbornly refuses to use that advantage in its quest to revive the franchise, the Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer disagrees.
PotC Boss Wants Johnny Depp Back
The notorious and highly controversial Depp vs. Amber trial locked many doors in front of the Pirates’ star’s face despite him winning in the court. Perhaps the toughest blow for the actor was Disney’s decision to boot him from all the franchises he played in, including Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most influential series of the early 2000s, being a series of films that had completely taken over the mainstream media space during its heyday. The series was based on a theme park ride at Disneyland and had a great cast of actors partaking in the franchise.

Building upon the existing franchises is never exactly easy. Fans already have expectations based on the previous creator’s vision; there’s already an established tone of voice and setting to defer to; and overall, people don’t take kindly to reboots, remakes, and “new chapters” when it comes to their favorite fictional worlds.
But Pirates of the Caribbean bosses are feeling increasingly optimistic about their idea of rebooting the iconic franchise without its lead star, Johnny Depp.

As controversial as the decision to move into the new era of Pirates without Depp has proven to be, Disney doesn’t seem inclined to back down from it. The 2003 premiere of The Curse of the Black Pearl launched the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, a series of movies that soon became one of the most popular franchises of all time and was a massive success for Disney. The franchise was led by one of the biggest stars of that period, Johnny Depp, whose charismatic appearance as Jack Sparrow became a pillar of pop culture. While we cannot deny that the overall quality of the movies dropped by the time the fifth movie was released, as a whole, it is still one of the most popular franchises of all time. Now, it has been seven years since the last movie in the series, and while we did know that Disney was working on reviving the franchise, we did not know – due to conflicting reports – what they were working on.

While the franchise started losing its appeal as time passed, Disney still found massive success with its Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Johnny Depp deserves much of the credit for that, but Amber Heard's allegations of domestic violence and a series of messy court battles led to Disney scrapping plans for a sixth movie. Depp's Hollywood career was put on hold and the studio went back to the drawing board with the franchise.
It's unclear exactly who is developing the next iteration, though the expectation is that the spotlight will shift to another character in place of the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow.
Talking to Et Online, Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer made it clear that, he at least, is willing to bring Depp back into the fold.
"If it was up to me, of course. I love having Depp," he said. "He's a great actor and good friend.

We’ve known for a while that another ‘weird’ Pirates Of The Caribbean movie is coming, and Margot Robbie is still involved too.
Here’s an update on a story that we’ve been reporting on now for a good few years. It’s zigged and zagged a few times since then, but according to series producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, a Pirate Of The Caribbean film starring Margot Robbie in a female-centric movie is still happening.
We first heard about this project all the way back in 2020. Apparently, Disney had plans to make two very different Pirates Of The Caribbean movies to continue the popular swashbuckling series that already boasts six films. The plans back in 2020 were to develop a female-led version which would be headlined by Margot Robbie alongside another ‘weird’ film with an all-new cast. The latter version was based on a script penned by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott,...

Johnny Depp has acted and aced the many roles he has essayed throughout his career. But Captain Jack Sparrow will remain beloved by his and his fans for the way he molded and shaped it from the ground up. Thus, kickstarting the entire Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the actor is as much to be credited as the writers and crew for the success of the movies.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer seemingly confirmed a couple of things. Firstly, it sounds like Johnny Depp is not returning for “Pirates of the Caribbean,” even if Bruckheimer wants it. Secondly, it seems Disney may indeed move forward with Margo Robbie’s film as well.
We also learned that Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the last “Pirates of the Caribbean” film in 2017 is writing the reboot. At this point the third act is great but the first and second act need more work.
He told EW, “I think he’s cracked it,” Bruckheimer remarks. “He’s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we’ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.”
The script is in play, but does that mean Johnny Depp will return?
Bruckheimer makes it sound unlikely.

There have been hot and cold reports about the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise over the past few years. Some had a reboot happening with an entirely new cast, others a female-centric film with Margot Robbie. Now, Jerry Bruckheimer is setting the record straight.
“It’s two different movies,” Bruckheimer says. The reboot has Jeff Nathanson doing the script with the Robbie-centric film being written by Christina Hodson, according to Entertainment Weekly, which caught up with the producer. “We hope to get ’em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.”
The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin worked on a story for the reboot with original screenwriter Ted Elliot. Mazin told the L.A. Times that their script was very weird and that Disney seemed to like it. But the project stalled because of the strikes last year.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer has provided more clarity on the current state of the Disney adventure franchise. He already teased in March that a total reboot was going to be the first “Pirates” movie out of the gate in the future because “it’s easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.” This reboot is now confirmed to have writer Jeff Nathanson attached. Bruckheimer announced the news in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Nathanson also wrote the screenplay for the last “Pirates” movie, 2017’s “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” which was directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. Rønning and Nathanson, as well as Bruckheimer, have reunited on the new Disney biographical drama “Young Woman and the Sea.”

The road to a Pirates of the Caribbean follow-up has been a long and bumpy one. Even before Johnny Depp’s public image troubles with the messy divorce involving him and ex-wife Amber Heard, Disney couldn’t lock down a solid way to continue the franchise with or without the face of the series — Captain Jack Sparrow. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has thrown around a number of concepts, one of them involving Margot Robbie (which received conflicting reports on whether or not Disney passed on it) and one of them involving a new cast of younger actors. Bruckheimer confirmed recently that it will be a full-on reboot.

Disney is apparently invested in keeping up with one of their most successful franchises, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ with or without Johnny Depp at the helm.

Zoe Saldaña is one of the few Hollywood stars whose reputation undoubtedly precedes her. As such, her work not only stands out as a product of her excellent ethics but also an irrevocable personality that drives her to achieve perfection in every single role she embodies. But such quality of work doesnʼt breed out of compliance and pleasantness.
Zoe Saldaña in Special Ops: Lioness [Credit: Paramount Network]For the Avatar star, it took incredible strength and bravery to pursue work in an industry that makes it their daily mission to promote misogyny. Saldaña has hardly kept quiet in the past about the difficult working environment on Pirates of the Caribbean sets and she isnʼt about to do so now as she makes explosive revelations about the openly vile nature of studio execs.

Attention: The Following Report Is A Rumor. Please Take The Following Story With A Grain Of Salt.
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been in a bit of a pickle lately. Ever since the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial, many hardcore fans had been hoping for some reconciliation between Depp and Disney after the actor was unceremoniously let go following the abuse accusations.
Now it appears the series will continue as a reboot instead of another Jack Sparrow adventure. Another rumor claims that Jack Sparrow might make a cameo in the film, but the focus would be on a new generation. Actress Ayo Edebiri has been reported to be on the list of actors considered for the film. Now, we might have another name attached.
An anonymous source at the DisInsider answered a question regarding the actor’s potential involvement with the upcoming Live-Action Remake of Hercules via their mailbag.

It’s no secret that sequel films typically send people running to movie theater seats. They’re a safe bet for a studio like Walt Disney — if audiences loved an original film, they’re sure to enjoy a new adventure with the same charismatic characters and the addition of some new ones (preferably one that can be turned into profitable theme park plushies). For better or worse, Disney has boarded the sequel train and doesn’t seem to be hopping off anytime soon. For the next solid three years, the studio has multiple sequel projects slated to drop — ranging anywhere between the second and fifth film of a franchise. While it can be nice to revisit fan-favorite universes like ‘Avatar’ and ‘Toy Story,’ there’s also a major demand for Disney to return to their original storytelling roots. Walt Disney himself was incredibly opposed to sequels, saying he always had...

It has been seven years since the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. It is, undoubtedly, one of the biggest franchises that Disney has been trying to reboot the movie series for quite a while.
Johnny Depp’s Capt. Jack Sparrow
In this scenario, reboot means the absence of Depp, and for obvious reasons, it would be hard for anyone to imagine the franchise without Depp leading the film series. However, recent reports suggest that Dune: Part Two star Austin Butler is being eyed to lead the new reboot of the popular movie series.

In the first scene of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Charlotte (India Amarteifio) sulks in a carriage en route to marry King George. Her brother jokes that she hasn’t moved in six hours.
Charlotte scowls and responds: “The gown sits atop a bespoke underpinning made of whalebone. The problem with whalebone is that it is rather sharp. I am in the height of fashion, so this corset is quite snug. If I move too much, I might be sliced and stabbed to death by my undergarments. I am angry and I cannot breathe. Turn this carriage around or I will bounce. I will impale myself on this ridiculous corset and bleed to death.”
This monologue is great for setting up Charlotte’s feistiness. But Charlotte is very misinformed about her own underwear. European women in the 1760s called their structured undergarments “stays” not “corsets.” Stays weren’t made with...

Men in Black is one of those franchises that defined the late 1990s and the early 2000s, along with franchises like The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean. However, given that this was the time when Hollywood did not shy away from experimenting, Men in Black had an earlier draft that would probably have made it less palatable to general audiences.
Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in a still from Men in Black (1997)
Men in Black is a film that can be very neatly categorized as an action comedy. However, an earlier draft of the film did not have nearly as much action as the final cut of the movie and was also really grounded as compared to what the audiences finally got to see. Twenty years ago, Troy and its cast made its mark on epic filmmaking. Director Wolfgang Petersen’s take on Homer’s Iliad featured an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt and created a wildly entertaining, if not entirely accurate, movie.
Working from a script by future Games of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, the Troy cast brought to life legends like Achilles, Helen of Troy, and Hector. Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger were among those who joined Pitt in the impressive cast. While many of the actors haven’t made another film on Troy‘s scale, they continue to perform in blockbuster movies 20 years later.

For years, fans couldn’t get enough of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies. In fact it was so beloved it became one of Disney’s most profitable franchises. Even up to this moment, there are fans that still hold out hope that the ‘Pirates’ will make a return.
No, not as the completely rebooted movie that’s reportedly in development, but with Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow, and if they can manage it, Orlando Bloom as Will Turner. What new mayhem will the duo get into for their next adventures?
While we pray for that, Orlando Bloom has decided to make us a little nostalgic by revealing how Johnny Depp crafted the character Jack Sparrow and got him to be so good fans couldn’t help but fall in love.

Keira Knightley was critical about wearing corsets for her role in Pirates of the Caribbean, despite admitting that it was an easy way to slip into the character of a royal woman. She believed that women should have burned these dresses centuries ago. While the actress’s view about the constricting garment remained the same even after all these years, she has come to accept the vitality of the costume for the character.
Pirates of the Caribbean actress Keira Knightley was vocal about her hate for corsets
Knightley was just 18 when she was cast in the role of Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Apart from the challenging costumes, she also revealed that she was forced to do some stunts that she wasn’t trained for in the movie.

Johnny Depp’s Potential Return To Pirates of The Caribbean Explored. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Johnny Depp is reportedly “moving forward” from a dark part of his life as the actor looks forward to future projects. People, citing a close source, recently reported that the 61-year-old actor is “very excited” for fans to see his new French film, Jeanne du Barry. The Source added the actor does not hold any “animosity” against anybody as he embarks on a new chapter in his life.
The Source said, “There’s been a release of the old and embarking on this new chapter. He’s feeling better about where he is in life. There’s no animosity toward anybody.”
Johnny Depp, who won a heated defamation legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard in Virginia, also provided a reassuring update amid swirling rumours of his return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming Pirates of The Caribbean film.

Disney is always updating and refreshing attractions at its theme parks. Recently, they opened a version at Tokyo DisneySea called Peter Pan’s Neverland Adventure. This has people wondering if Disney plans on making similar changes to the version in Walt Disney World.
Recently, Disney filed a permit for the installation of “set elements” to the Magic Kingdom’s “Peter Pan’s Flight” attraction with InterAmerica Stage, a contractor they have worked with many times. But this does not mean that the attraction is being completely changed. At this point, we don’t know if this is for a refresh or something more.
Previously, there were rumors that Disney had a list of “problematic attractions” they wanted to update to remove “culturally insensitive” elements. The Jungle Cruise was one of them. Now, the natives are chimpanzees, and Trader Sam is fencing lost and found items. I’m so glad they fixed all the stereotypes there.

Famously known for appearing in franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings, Orlando Bloom has acquired a fanbase out of his iconic characters. But not always did the actor appreciate the projects he appeared in. Take, for example, Bloom admitted blocking out Wolfgang Petersen’s 2004 historical epic Troy, from his mind.

VFX icon and “Mad God” director Phil Tippett is working on a new stop-motion feature titled “Sentinel,” which will be pitched for the first time at this year’s Frontières section of Cannes’ Marché du Film.
Variety has been given exclusive access to the first plot details and set images from “Sentinel,” which shares a visual fidelity with “Mad God.” However, in terms of production, things will be very different this time around.
“Mad God” was a project that Tippett worked on off and on for thirty years. A similar timetable isn’t realistic for “Sentinel,” as the director would be over 100 at the film’s premiere. So, Tippett and producer Colin Geddes (Ultra 8 Pictures) say they’re pursuing a more conventional development and production plan with their new project, including a clearer narrative focus. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the most celebrated works of fantasy and has been regarded as one of the greatest films ever. Director Peter Jackson spent years bringing to life a novel series that was considered to be unadaptable. The final film of the trilogy The Return of the King won eleven awards at the Oscars, including Best Picture.
Many actors in the fantasy trilogy have gone on to become stars. While lead actors such as Elijah Wood and Viggo Mortensen became synonymous with their roles as Frodo and Aragorn, other actors such as Orlando Bloom, Liv Tyler, and Andy Serkis saw new levels of stardom. The Star Wars film series is still expanding and has grown in recognition over the years. Innumerable actors have contributed to the property as the galaxy far, far away continues to grow through projects for both small and large screens. Some of them even lose track of how they came to be cast in the first place. Take Keira Knightley, for example.

Gore Verbinski would seem to have hit a snag in his big-budget blockbuster career after his Lone Ranger movie for Disney became a notoriously bloated flop. However, he was able to return with a smaller directorial effort after that, with the suspense film A Cure for Wellness.
