As it appears on the verge of losing rights to the NBA, TNT is pivoting to another high-profile sports property. Starting next season, TNT Sports will present two first-round College Football Playoff games. Beginning in 2026, TNT will add two quarterfinal games as well.
The deal comes through a sublicence with ESPN, TNT’s partner in the newly created sports streamer, Venu Sports.
ESPN will present all other College Football Playoff games on its networks including the annual Cfp National Championship Game.
This year brings a huge expansion of the College Football Playoff from four teams to 12. The four highest-ranking conference champions will be seeded 1-4 and receive first-round byes. The Cfp first round will consist of four games played at home campus venues, with teams seeded 5-8 hosting teams seeded 9-12.

For decades, Memorial Day weekend has traditionally been a hugely busy weekend at the box office, often offering the biggest of franchise sequels — or in this case, two potential franchise prequels? Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
The Memorial Day bump that has helped so many franchise installments before will certainly be in play for George Miller‘s return to the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max with “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” a prequel that tells the earlier story of Charlize Theron‘s character from “Mad Max: Fury Road.” This one stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character, joined by Chris Hemsworth as a new antagonist called Dementus, as well a mix of new characters and ones that appeared in “Fury Road.”

Cannes Film Festival president Iris Knobloch said she learned about the “power of cinema to carry messages, liberate speech and accomplish a duty of remembrance” from her parents, who are Holocaust survivors.
Speaking at the Kering Women in Motion Talks at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, the Munich-born Knobloch said her parents took her to the movie theater several times a week. “For them, going to the cinemas was about reclaiming the youth they had lost.”
She cited Volker Schlöndorff’s “The Tin Drum” as the one movie that marked her the most, alongside French movies by Claude Sautet, Claude Lelouch. “I would see the Cannes Film Festival from afar, and it seems a bit like a fairy tale to be here today,” said Knobloch, a trained lawyer who became Cannes’ first female president in 2023 after spending 25 years at Warner Bros. where she led the studio in France and Germany.

Margot Robbie’s long-rumoured Sims movie has now reportedly got the green light from Amazon MGM.
The Sims is a game that most millennials grew up playing. We were immersed and invested in the intricate lives of the characters on our old, boxy PCs in the early-2000s and occasionally, accidentally set things on fire.
We reported in March that a film based on The Sims was in the works, with Loki-director Kate Herron helming it and Margot Robbie producing through her LuckyChap banner. Now, Puck News (via Dark Horizons) is reporting that the film has found a home with Amazon MGM.
Screen Rant mentions that Netflix’s bid for the film’s rights was higher, but Amazon MGM ultimately won by promising the film a theatrical release.

The first time Donna Langley came to the Cannes Film Festival she was a junior executive working on 1999’s “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.”
“I had just been promoted and I was fortunate enough to get picked to come on this trip to be part of the support team, and it was great! It was very different to this experience, I will say,” Langley said, eliciting a laugh from the well-heeled crowd at the Kering Women in Motion dinner, held at the Place de la Castre high above the Croisette. “[But] we had the time of our lives. We were just in so much awe to be in the cinema capital of the world.”

As you’ve probably noticed yourselves, the audiences have been very kind to live-action and animated adaptations of video games and similar brands in recent years, as the studios have seemingly cracked the formula for making a good video game-based movie. Disney had a hit with Wreck-It-Ralph, the Lego franchise is now a classic, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a major hit, with last year’s Barbie (based on a major toy brand) being a global phenomenon. Knowing that fact, the video game adaptation market is growing, and we can confirm that the teased live-action movie based on The Sims franchise is moving forward.
It has been confirmed that Amazon MGM Studios have acquired the rights to the film and will actually provide part of the budget, so the movie has managed to land a major studio behind it, and some big names are attached to the project as well,...

Johnny Depp has acted and aced the many roles he has essayed throughout his career. But Captain Jack Sparrow will remain beloved by his and his fans for the way he molded and shaped it from the ground up. Thus, kickstarting the entire Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the actor is as much to be credited as the writers and crew for the success of the movies.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer seemingly confirmed a couple of things. Firstly, it sounds like Johnny Depp is not returning for “Pirates of the Caribbean,” even if Bruckheimer wants it. Secondly, it seems Disney may indeed move forward with Margo Robbie’s film as well.
We also learned that Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the last “Pirates of the Caribbean” film in 2017 is writing the reboot. At this point the third act is great but the first and second act need more work.
He told EW, “I think he’s cracked it,” Bruckheimer remarks. “He’s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we’ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.”
The script is in play, but does that mean Johnny Depp will return?
Bruckheimer makes it sound unlikely.

Inspired by the loss of the director’s wife, “The Shrouds” is a grief story as only David Cronenberg would ever think to shoot one: Sardonic, unsentimental, and often so cadaverously stiff that the film itself appears to be suffering from rigor mortis, as if its images died at some point along their brief journey from the projector to the screen. And really, what else would you expect? I suppose it’s possible that the story’s deeply personal context might have spurred Cronenberg to push against the tender sterility of his recent features, or even dare to expose the soft underbelly that’s always been hiding inside his tumorous body of work and its many layers of scary-beautiful new flesh. If so, it almost immediately becomes clear that he had zero interest in accepting that invitation.

Ever since the phenomenon of Oppenheimer and Barbie took over social media and actual movie theaters in the summer of 2023, the media and casual viewers alike couldn't stop talking about Greta Gerwig's film. It was at the center of the recent awards season and remains one of the most talked about films of the past year.
The problem that many of the viewers who have already seen Barbie have with the film is that it didn't seem to take the feminist ideas in its base far enough to be meaningful. Instead, many left-wing activists ended up dismissing it as populist, and many conservatives still hated it for criticizing the patriarchy.
Now that some time has passed, Shonda Rhimes has returned to the Barbie theme, but with a very different angle.

There have been hot and cold reports about the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise over the past few years. Some had a reboot happening with an entirely new cast, others a female-centric film with Margot Robbie. Now, Jerry Bruckheimer is setting the record straight.
“It’s two different movies,” Bruckheimer says. The reboot has Jeff Nathanson doing the script with the Robbie-centric film being written by Christina Hodson, according to Entertainment Weekly, which caught up with the producer. “We hope to get ’em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.”
The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin worked on a story for the reboot with original screenwriter Ted Elliot. Mazin told the L.A. Times that their script was very weird and that Disney seemed to like it. But the project stalled because of the strikes last year.

“I was talking to Luke Newton about this the other day,” Coughlan told IndieWire the day before “Bridgerton” Season 3 – Part 1 premiered. “There’s something nice about kind of going back to the drawing board thing as an actor. You’re not going back to point zero, but it’s nice to go ‘Now I’ve got to work my ass off again to get a job.'”
Coughlan was conscious of the fact that a lot of actors reach a point where they no longer accept auditions, just offers, but she feels it’s too important to test the waters...

Ryan Gosling’s latest project, The Fall Guy, has been met with a cruel twist of fate, following its release on 3 May, 2024. After barely running for a month, the movie is now preparing for its release on streaming platforms. Managing to gross $127M so far on a $140M budget, producers are now looking to capitalize on Gosling’s film by shortening its traditional theatrical run.

When Cate Blanchett starts shooting a new movie or show, it’s always the same story.
“It’s like Groundhog Day,” Blanchett said at the Kering Women in Motion Talks at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday. “I do the head count, and I’m back in the same place, working with men who I love working with and respect, [but] I’m walking on set and there’s 50 people on set and there’s three women. When is this going to deeply, profoundly shift?”
Blanchett is trying to change a system that remains male-dominated despite all the panels and protests and calls for action. In addition to debuting her latest film “Rumours” (which she also executive produced), the Oscar-winner is at the festival to promote Proof of Concept, an accelerator program she co-founded last year to elevate the perspectives of women, trans and nonbinary people by financially backing their short “proof of concept” films.

Charli Xcx started to think about what it would be like to have a baby. The 31-year-old has always been an artist of extremes, a main character thriving on an emotional and creative knife edge. But the timing wasn’t about craving novelty, on this occasion. She’s now in her thirties and in a happy relationship of equals with The 1975’s George Daniel.

Margot Robbie is one of the most prolific actresses working in Hollywood today. She created history when she starred in last year’s Barbie, which became the highest-grossing movie of the year and broke multiple records. She also co-produced the film under her Lucky Chap Entertainment production company.
Robbie has also been widely regarded as one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. But reportedly that did not save her from experiencing a bad date. During a press meet for Suicide Squad, Robbie revealed that she had once been on a date that was so bad that she asked out the waiter instead to escape from it.

Filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, and Christopher Nolan are known for pushing the boundaries in blockbuster filmmaking as they bring in original ideas and mount them on a large scale. While the directors have grown to be critical favorites, they also seem to have won the box office race with their original films.
Among these legends, Christopher Nolan seems to have gained the top spot in one category. With four of his original films grossing over $500 million at the box office, Nolan beat Spielberg and Roland Emmerich to gain the top spot. The Oscar-winner is the only filmmaker to have achieved this feat with movies that are not comic adaptations, reboots, or sequels.

Ryan Gosling is unarguably one of the best actors in the entire global entertainment industry, perfect with his charismatic personality, which has established him as one of the greatest heartthrobs of all time. But that isn’t all, because he is also quite literally the ultimate Prince of Hollywood — and, for the record, it’s not just for all those fan-girlies swooning about him out there.

As fears stack up in the industry over a possible Sony and Paramount merger, subtracting one major motion picture studio from the industry, The Chairman of NBCU Studio Group and Chief Content Officer Donna Langley at a Cannes Kering talk weighed in on what that impact will be.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is something Ryan Gosling would love to be a part of, even though he has not starred in any superhero flicks yet. Not only that, but he already knows the character he would most like to play.

In just a few short years, Billie Eilish has demonstrated a keen sense of range that’s far beyond her 22 years, and she’s managed to tap into—and help shape—the cultural zeitgeist more than once, writing anthems for bad guys, Bond, and Barbie. With her exquisite third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, she further cements her status as alt-pop’s happy warrior, keeping one foot in the mainstream and another firmly outside of it.
At just 10 tracks, Hit Me Hard and Soft is both Eilish’s most concise and most ambitious album to date. Throughout, she and her main collaborator, brother Finneas, experiment with song structure and style, examining her celebrity and persona, in ways that are both playful and profound. Packed with multipart songs and self-referential lyrics that reward repeat listens, the album is a world unto itself—and the most fully realized version of Eilish’s sound.

As the word “diversity” became one of the most spoken in Hollywood on the wave of #OscarsSoWhite and #MeToo, Dr. Stacy L. Smith’s USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative became one of the foremost barometers of the entertainment industry’s success or lack thereof in bringing new, underrepresented voices into the production pipeline.
Now, with Dei executives resigning en masse and a far-right backlash to such initiatives on the rise, the program’s founder fears that Hollywood is in the midst of backslide, through no fault of the writers, directors and other creatives who got those new opportunities. Her team’s most recent study shows that despite the success of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” 2023 saw a significant dip when it comes to representation in theatrical films.
“It’s not about their talent. It’s not about the audience. We know that for sure, in terms of our own economic analyses,” Smith told TheWrap.

My favorite scene in the hilarious new film “The Fall Guy” is the one where Emily Blunt (recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for “Oppenheimer”) belts out the Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” as Ryan Gosling (recent Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee for “Barbie”) finds himself in a particularly dramatic — and dangerous — sequence of events.
As Blunt sang with all her heart, I couldn’t help but think of how perfect the timing was.
Forty years ago this very month, the famous power ballad had just completed a three-week reign on top of the Billboard Hot 100. “Against All Odds” was the title song from the romantic thriller starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods. The Taylor Hackford-directed movie was met with solid reviews and healthy ticket sales. But its most notable success was Collins’s song, which quickly took the Billboard chart by storm.

Below Deck, Season 11 has given fans many feuds, including one between Captain Kerry Titheradge and Ben Willoughby.

“Jaws” in 1975 is remembered as the movie that birthed the summer global blockbuster; its many children include “Star Wars,” Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” “Top Gun,” “Ghostbusters,” “Ghost,” “Twister,” “The Lion King,” “Independence Day,” “Speed,” and “Men in Black.” Today, that bloodline is threatened with extinction.
On the surface, that seems ridiculous — summer box office is still defined by blockbusters — but today that means sequels. It’s become exceedingly rare for studios to invest over $100 million in a summer movie with an original screenplay that’s not already part of a franchise. That’s what makes Paramount Pictures’ $110 million “If” such an outlier.
Still, being that exception also hands writer-director John Krasinski a double-edged sword. Those original blockbusters — all released between 1975-1999 — ended up with domestic gross totals, in 2024 ticket price terms, of over $400 million. Consensus on opening weekend for “If” has been around $40 million,...

With a mission wholly unique at the time, make money while inspiring social change through entertainment, Participant Media managed to rewrite the rules of Hollywood during its all too short 20-year run. The studio singlehandedly proved to the world that you can produce unbelievably great films that have an impact, and audiences will go see them. Most studios and filmmakers working today owe a debt of gratitude to Jeff Skoll and his team of visionaries. That’s why the announcement that the studio will be shutting its doors felt like a gut punch, especially at a time when Hollywood is feeling a bit limp and lifeless.
Amidst the backdrop of faltering democracies, news and information channels that appear polarized, a marathon pandemic, and the proliferation of streaming, entertainment media still stands king as a unifier, capable of bringing together broad swathes of audiences. So, while Participant’s award-winning documentary “He...

We first got confirmation that Marvel Studios was planning to introduce Nova to the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2022, and since then, there have been conflicting reports about which medium the project was being developed for.
Last we heard, the studio had settled on a movie, but a new rumor is claiming that Nova will be making his debut on the small screen after all.
According to Daniel Richtman, Nova will be a Disney+ series, and production is currently scheduled to get underway at some point next year. The reliable insider has also heard that the show will focus on a "young lead," which means there's a decent chance it won't be Richard Rider, but Marvel Comics' more recent incarnation of the space-faring hero, Sam Alexander.
A young lead would also indicate that Ryan Gosling won't be playing the character!

Like its titular superhero, The Flash arrived quickly last June and was just as quickly forgotten. Sure, it was talked about for some time after its release, but the lingering sentiment wasn't always enthusiastic, and Warner Bros. and audiences alike were looking forward to the upcoming release of Barbie, which would finally eclipse The Flash's critical and commercial failure. Exclusive: Michael Cera caught Tyler Taormina’s feature directing debut Ham on Rye after a friend suggested he check it out. He was so impressed that he signed himself up as a sort of producing “cheerleader” on the filmmaker’s latest picture Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point, which plays in Directors’ Fortnight on Friday,May 17, at the Cannes Film Festival.
Cera’s quick to point out that Krista Minto, co-writer Eric Berger and others did the heavy-lifting producer duties on the picture that’s almost like a fly-on-the-wall exploration of a sprawling Long Island family’s holiday get-together.
“They’re the ones who actually made the movies,” he stressed.
The film’s Cannes screening comes at a time when Cera, who has made short films, has two films in development, both of which he will direct. One of them is called Gummy, the other is untitled. The untitled one is likely to go first,...
