The seventh Alien film is set to make its way into theaters this summer as Disney has confirmed that Alien: Romulus, which was directed by Fede Alvarez, will be released on August 16, 2024. This will be the first film in the franchise since Alien: Covenant, which failed to recapture the magic of the first two films. In fact, the franchise hasn’t been able to match the quality of Alien and Aliens and has suffered greatly in the mainstream because it hasn’t lived up to the legacy that James Cameron set. There isn’t much information on...

Ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Marvel Comics has been producing new comics set in both the Alien and Predator Universes. Wolverine has already clashed with the latter, but next up is a crossover we could once only ever dream of: Aliens vs. Avengers.
Written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Esad Ribić, the four-issue limited series takes place in a new Marvel timeline and pits older, grittier versions of Earth's Mightiest heroes against an invasion of Xenomorphs.
It also will be the first time readers will see certain parts of Alien lore in the Marvel Universe, such as the home of the Engineers. In what sounds like an unmissable series, Xenomorphs reach Earth, and the perfect organism meets a planet of superhumans. But who will be first to fall?
To celebrate this monumental moment in pop culture history, you'll be able to pick up five "Marvel vs. Alien" Variant Covers starting in July.

Marvel Studios may have taken a big step forward in the development of its planned Midnight Sons movie, as a new rumor is claiming that the project has enlisted a writer.
According to Nexus Point News - who previously broke some significant scoops as DCULeaks - Michael Green has been hired to pen the script.
Green wrote the original script for the long-awaited Blade reboot, and has also worked on the likes of Netflix's Blue Eye Samurai, Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot trilogy, Blade Runner 2049 and Logan.
While Green would almost certainly be a popular pick, it's important to keep in mind that a Midnight Sons movie has yet to be officially announced - although we'd say Marvel Studios assembling their supernatural characters for a team-up at some point is inevitable.

Alien is back! It’s been seven years since the franchise has hit the big screen and it appears that the story is going back to basics. Alien: Romulus is being spearheaded by Fede Alvarez, who amazed audiences with Evil Dead (2013) and Don’t Breathe. There isn’t much detail about the story, though the brief synopsis does give you a solid overview: “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” The upcoming film has a relatively unknown cast, but so...

The Alien franchise makes its long-awaited return to theaters this August with Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus, but we will soon get to see the Xenomorph (Xenomorphs?) terrorize the small screen for the very first time in Noah Hawley's FX series.
Updates on the project have been few and far between since the main cast was announced last year, but thanks to a new rumor doing the rounds online, we may have a little more to go on.
Though he stresses that this may not be the final title, insider Daniel Richtman has heard that the show is currently being referred to as "Alien: Neverland."
The series is believed to be set three decades before the events of Ridley Scott's 1979 classic and a few years before Prometheus, and will find the characters "caught in a conflict with the beginning of artificial intelligence and the competition among developers and users.

Ahead of its release next year, showrunner Noah Hawley’s Alien TV show now has a title – Alien: Neverland. There are also new plot details.
We’ve waited a long time for showrunner Noah Hawley’s Alien TV show to materialise, and given that it isn’t due to arrive next year, we’ve still a way to go.
Pandemics, strikes and recasting have all taken a toll on the pace of the production, but thankfully we’re finally starting to learn a few details about what to expect.
Thanks to World Of Reel, we now know the title: Alien: Neverland. As previously reported, it will function as a prequel to 1979’s Alien. Here’s a brief synopsis posted by the outlet:
‘In Alien: Neverland we are introduced to the characters on Earth set 30 years prior to Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien film. Characters are caught in a conflict with the...

We've been hearing reports that Marvel Studios might be planning a Midnight Sons (or Midnight Suns if they go with the more recent title) movie for quite a while (shortly after the Moon Knight finale aired), and we may now have a better idea of which characters are going to make up the team when the project does finally begin to take shape.
Though a Midnight Sons movie has yet to be officially announced, Marvel Studios assembling its roster of supernatural/magical characters for a team-up event would seem like a smart move.
Multiple characters have been a part of or associated with the team in the comics over the years, but according to The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez, the McU's line-up will most likely include: Wong, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Blade, Werewolf by Night, & Man-Thing.

A few months ago, there were rumors that Marvel Studios was working on a ‘Midnight Sons’ project, and that the new ‘Blade’ reboot would be connected to it.
The Midnight Sons would feature characters who have never been in ‘The Avengers,’ and Doctor Strange supposedly won’t be part of the team.
Now, Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus shared on his Discord Ama the possible members of the Midnight Sons, along with some frequently mentioned candidates according to his inside sources:
I’ve heard Wong, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Blade, Werewolf by Night, & Man-Thing as the most repeated names by sources as part of the team roster. Other names I’ve heard, from most to least likely, include Black Knight, Scarlet Scarab, Elsa Bloodstone, Dr. Strange, and even Agatha Harkness. But if I had to guess how many members I’d expect for this team lineup, I’d say between 6-9 members.

It’s the age-old argument: Alien or Aliens? The haunted-house horror movie, or the action-packed war film? The lean, dread-filled original, or the bigger, beefier sequel? Both Ridley Scott’s original Xenomorph outing and James Cameron’s exemplary sequel stand tall among the greatest sci-fi films of all time – each with a strong and valid claim for being the best of the bunch. But when deciding the direction in which to take his sequel, Alien: Romulus, filmmaker Fede Alvarez hit upon the ideal solution: why not a hybrid of the two?

1992's "Alien 3" was advertised with the tagline "The B*tch is Back" and the new trailer for the upcoming "Alien: Romulus" implicitly carries that same promise. True, original "Alien" protagonist Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is nowhere to be seen, but a new crew of future victims has a Xenomorph infestation to deal with.
This trailer proves that, for better or worse, director Fede Álvarez knows his sh*t when it comes to "Alien." Based on this two-minute preview, a group of young people — headlined by Rain Carradine — break into an abandoned space station, hoping that whatever is inside can buy them a better life. Instead, they stumble onto hibernating facehuggers that soon get loose. Things predictably go downhill.
This sounds like a streamlined version of the original 1979 "Alien," where the Nostromo investigated a crashed alien ship and brought the Xenomorph back onto theirs. The set design and imagery of "Romulus" echoes the original too,...

Alien: Romulus’ Pure Horror Finally Echoes the 1979 Original - Main Image
When Ridley Scott’s Alien released in 1979, theater-goers vomited and fainted at the pure horror projected in front of them. In the 45 years since, not a single film in the long-running franchise has matched the shock of the original, but Alien: Romulus is finally delivering the terror fans have been missing.
Set in the 57-year interval between Alien and Aliens, Romulus focuses on a young cast colonists exploring an abandoned space station, not unlike Alien Isolation.
As expected with any film in the franchise, the cosmic horror of the Xenomorph is released and lives are lost in particularly gruesome ways.

Following yesterday’s official trailer release, the MPA rating for director Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus has arrived. No surprise here, but it’s rated “R.”
Alien: Romulus, arriving in theaters August 16, is specifically rated “R” for…
“Bloody violent content and language.”
There was a time when Alien and Predator fans were worried about Disney sanitizing both franchises when they got their hands on them. Thankfully, it’s clear that’s not happening.

We have reached a point in cinema where two upcoming Disney movies have officially been rated R and it has interestingly come as no surprise. According to FilmRatings.com, Alien: Romulus has officially received its R rating for bloody violent content and language, while Deadpool & Wolverine has also been rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore and sexual references. More adult-oriented movies with stronger ratings have been released by Disney in the past. However, they would usually be released under different banners like the now-defunct Touchstone Pictures or Hollywood Pictures instead of the actual Magic Kingdom castle.
These two films being given their natural R ratings was expected as their usual nature and tone in past films would naturally be capitalized on for appeal. Interestingly, both franchises have dabbled in PG-13 territory as the Alien films would get a more adventure-filled entry with the film Alien vs. Predator,...

The second trailer for Alien: Romulus contains all kinds of twisted xenomorph horror. We’ve been having a closer look at the finer details.
Nb: The following contains conjecture and general theorising that may be considered spoiler-y. Nothing that hasn’t been revealed in the new trailer, though.
If March’s teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus played coy, this week’s promo, lasting a full two minutes, is where director Fede Alvarez really bears his teeth. In fact, this writer’s initial reaction was that the new trailer for the upcoming Alien film gives away a little too much.
On closer inspection, though, it cleverly drops all sorts of hints without spoiling too many specifics. The first minute, in particular, merely fleshes out what we’ve already gleaned from various loglines and interviews. Its events take place between Alien and Aliens, and sees a group of six scavengers board an abandoned Weyland Yutani space station.

With throwbacks to the Alien, Aliens and ALIEN3 movies, featuring facehuggers, trackers, the Xenomorph and female protagonist, this new trailer for Alien: Romulus, made for the die hard fans dropped today. There are winks and nods to all the original movies.
The all-new sci-hi/horror-thriller from producer Ridley Scott and director/writer Fede Alvarez opens exclusively in theaters nationwide August 16, 2024.
Alien: Romulus takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
Check out this past weekend’s interview with the director at Monsterpalooza. Alvarez said: “I want to believe in the canon of this movie is like gospel. I played “Alien: Isolation” and its what made me want to make this movie. I played 10 years ago. I was playing the...

As promised. 20th Century Studios has released the first full-length trailer for Alien: Romulus. If Prometheus and Alien: Covenant's heavy sci-fi themes weren't your thing, get ready for a gore-filled horror fest with Evil Dead helmer Fede Álvarez clearly holding nothing back here.
While it's clear the filmmaker wasn't kidding when he talked about pulling inspiration from both Alien and Aliens, this feels more like a terrifying horror movie than an action-packed adventure.
Along the way, we see Facehuggers, chestbursters, and the iconic acid-spewing Xenomorph as this latest crew of soon-to-be-dead meat attempts to fend off an invasion from within. Needless to say, the sneak peek is red-band and isn't for the faint of heart.
"My first instinct, just to try something different that hasn’t been seen before, was to approach it from the angle of characters who are not professionals or scientists; they’re not even adults,...

In space, nobody can hear you scream ... but even from orbit, you can probably hear the collective buzz unleashed by this heart-stopping new footage for the next "Alien" film. The first official trailer for "Alien: Romulus" has finally dropped, and the reactions are pretty much unanimous: Audiences simply can't wait to watch yet another cast of soon-to-be victims attempt to survive some of the most terrifying, chest-bursting, existential horror they've ever had the cosmic misfortune to experience. Neither Sigourney Weaver's beloved Ellen Ripley nor original director Ridley Scott are part of the action this time around, having passed the mantle down to rising star Cailee Spaeny and "Don't Breathe" filmmaker Fede Álvarez, but the new film sure looks like it's bringing everything else fans have come to expect from the classic sci-fi series. While Scott's divisive prequel efforts "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" have garnered their fair share of supporters and detractors in recent years,...

As we've previously discussed, this summer movie season is surprisingly light on franchise fare.
That's partially due to the strikes that shut down Hollywood for much of the year, and partially due to the fact that superhero flicks just aren't packing 'em in like they used to.
But if you're a fan of sequels and nostalgia, fear not! Ridley Scott's Alien saga will be returning to theaters in August!
Yes, Alien: Romulus is set for release on August 16.
Scott is still on board as executive producer, but there's a new writer-director at the helm in the form of Evil Dead and Don't Breathe horror-meister Fede Alvarez.
Earlier today, 20th Century Studios dropped a press release, along with a trailer that's giving us some serious heebie-jeebies.

The “Alien” franchise is going back to basics with “Alien: Romulus.” A new trailer makes it clear that writer-director Fede Álvarez is emphasizing the claustrophobic sci-fi horror of a spaceship overrun by vicious aliens, like Ridley Scott’s 1979 film that started it all.
“Alien: Romulus” is set between the events of “Alien” and “Aliens,” and follows a group of young space colonizers who, while on a scavenging run on a seemingly abandoned space station, encounter a terrifying alien presence. The intense trailer shows off facehuggers, chestbursters, and references to earlier “Alien” films.
The film is led by Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”), who is taking the Sigourney Weaver-type role, as seen by her recreation of the iconic image of the xenomorph in Weaver’s face. The cast also includes David Jonsson (“Industry”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“Madame Web”), Spike Fearn (“Back to Black”), and newcomer Aileen Wu.

The first full teaser for Alien: Romulus contains lots of nods to Alien and Aliens. Not only does it integrate the famous tagline for the first film, but we get plenty of cool guns, facehuggers on the attack, and even a xenomorph rising from the water. In other words, all things that made Aliens great.
The connections between Alien and Aliens make sense. Director Fede Álvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues have made clear that Romulus takes place between those two landmark films. However, the standout, most shocking scene pays homage to Alien 3, a movie so divisive that even director David Fincher disowned it.
In the final image of the trailer, a xenomorph approaches protagonist Rain and extends its inner jaw. Soaked with sweat and steam, Rain turns her anguished face away from the monster and toward the camera.

Another trailer for this August’s Alien: Romulus has landed, and it contains a lot more gore and swearing. You have been warned…
A new Alien: Romulus trailer has landed! We’re in a bit of a hurry, so we’ll just plonk the embed here and come back with a few more thoughts later.
We’d argue it gives quite a lot away, though, so bear that in mind if you’ve already decided to buy a cinema ticket. Also there’s quite a lot of swearing, so that’s something else to consider if you happen to be sitting in a busy office or something.
Take it away, director Fede Alvarez…
Our original story follows.
We’ve been following the development of Alien: Romulus with interest, but also with a bit of concern. The franchise, which started with Ridley Scott’s pretty perfect 1979 film Alien, has had many...

Fede Alvarez is no stranger to horror franchises with devoted fanbases. Having directed the “Evil Dead” remake back in 2013. That being said, with “Alien: Romulus,” Alvarez tackles another famed film property that first crept into the psyches of filmgoers back in 1979 with Ridley Scott’s “Alien” and was further made iconic with James Cameron’s “Aliens.” Since the beginning, the movies have provided a degree of shock, disgust, and gore.

Most people don’t know that the Alien franchise was actually created by the late writer Dan O’Bannon and his colleague Ronald Shusett, who wrote the original story. Ridley Scott made the franchise popular with his Alien movie, and the rest is history. Alien is one of the best and most beloved sci-fi and horror franchises today. It has since expanded its universe and explored the origins of its own universe, but the most recent installment – the upcoming Alien: Romulus – is back in the present timeline of the universe, as it will be set between Alien and Aliens. The movie is set to come out on August 16, 2024, and today, the first trailer for the movie has been released, and you will be able to see it below.

The “Alien” franchise’s 21st century output has been something of a mixed bag, with offerings ranging from the crossover blockbuster “Alien vs. Predator” to Ridley Scott’s polarizing prequels “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant.” But the sci-fi series is set to return in a big way courtesy of an upcoming TV show from Noah Hawley and “Alien: Romulus,” a new film hailing from director Fede Alvarez and executive producer Ridley Scott.
The film, which stars Cailee Spaeny and is based on an original idea from Alvarez, takes place 20 years after the events of Scott’s original “Alien.” The movie is one of the highest profile releases on Disney and 20th Century’s strike-shortened summer movie slate.
Disney’s distribution chief Tony Chambers embraced the R-rated nature of “Deadpool & Wolverine” and quoted something he heard from Ridley Scott on his thoughts on the movie during CinemaCon: “It’s fucking great.

If I lived in the "Alien" universe, the last thing I'd ever do is step foot on a mysteriously empty spacecraft. Or heck, leave Earth at all; it seems there's little out there in the cosmos besides Xenomorph hive after Xenomorph hive. Space is terrifying enough as is and with bug-looking rape/murder monsters thrown in? Pass.
However, the main characters in "Alien: Romulus" doe not share my trepidation. The official synopsise says the film follows a crew of colonists who, while salvaging supplies from an abandoned space station, discover that it's hosting Xenomorphs. The film's newest trailer does nothing to disabuse the presumption that this is going to end poorly for them.
"Romulus" is set between the 1979 original "Alien" and 1986 sequel "Aliens." The film's set design evokes the steamy, factory look of "Alien". Stan Winston's effects team from "Aliens" was also recruited to create this movie's monsters practically.

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.

And while Alien: Romulus is currently in focus due to a trailer coming out, its rival, the Predator franchise, is also alive and well, and we actually have some information for you about the future of that franchise as well. The most recent installment, Prey, was released on August 5, 2022, to positive reviews, and Dan Trachtenberg, who directed the movie, is currently working on another standalone movie that is scheduled to come out sometime in 2025. Badlands, as the movie is titled, will continue the franchise in a proper way, and it seems that Trachtenberg has someone in mind for the main role in the movie.
Badlands is supposedly one of many planned Predator projects, and it is supposed to serve as a standalone sequel to Prey. Trachtenberg is, for the first time in the franchise’s history, eyeing a female lead, which could change the franchise forever in a very positive way!

It's a horrifying piece of imagery and one which suggests horror director Fede Álvarez intends to embrace the sci-fi franchise's horror roots. However, as much as he's been inspired by Alien, the filmmaker is also taking his cues from Aliens.

It's "Alien" vs. "Predator" all over again. As the next installment of the classic horror franchise is set to arrive later this year with "Alien: Romulus," the rival "Predator" series is gearing up for a revival of its own. Director Dan Trachtenberg's "Prey" injected fresh blood into the IP in 2022, stripping away all the flashy bells and whistles from Shane Black's messy sequel and instead taking things back in time to colonial America. In fact, the Hulu film earned such glowing praise that it led to a buzzy announcement earlier this year, when we heard the promising news that 20th Century Studios would be bringing Trachtenberg back for more movies to come. At the time, all that was revealed was the title of the next planned feature -- "Badlands" -- but now we know which actor has been handpicked to lead Trachtenberg's new film.
