Gravity Falls could possibly be resurrected as Executive Vice President of Television Animation and Disney Branded Television Meredith Roberts hinted they’re in talks with the show’s creator.
In a new interview, Roberts revealed that they are looking into bringing back the animated series and have approached Alex Hirsch to make it happen.
“You know, we’re in conversations with Alex. He’s about to publish a book with Disney on his project. And we also do some shorts. So never say never,” Roberts told The Direct.
Gravity Falls was created by Hirsch and premiered on Disney Channel in 2012 with a 20-episode order. The show follows the adventures of Dipper Pines (voiced by Jason Ritter) and his twin sister, Mabel (voiced by Kristen Schaal), as they spend a summer with their great-uncle Stan (voiced by Hirsch) in Gravity Falls, Oregon. Gravity Falls fans may have some hope for new episodes, according to a recent interview with The Direct. Executive Vice President of Television Animation and Disney Branded Television Meredith Roberts said they are in talks with the original creator, Alex Hirsch.
Roberts also said, “Never say never,” regarding more of the popular show.
Gravity Falls ran from June 15, 2012, until February 15, 2016, and had 40 episodes. There were also many tie-in books.
It was an incredibly popular show with a large fanbase. My whole family loved it. In fact, the kids were re-watching episodes just a couple of weeks ago.
Now, while I would love to have more “Gravity Falls” done by Alex Hirsch, I’m not sure how on board he will be.
He stated that the decision to end the show after two seasons was his choice in 2015,

The history of television is fascinating because you can trace lines between almost any modern show and one of the classics, as crews move from one show to another, bringing their past work and their influences with them. This applies to both live-action and animation. In the latter, many animators who start as writers or storyboard artists in one show end up creating their own series years later, bringing colleagues along with them, who then go on to create their own shows in return. Take "Dexter's Laboratory" launching the career of not just Genndy Tartakovsky, but also Craig McCracken, Rob Renzetti, Butch Hartman, and Seth MacFarlane, each going on to make a popular show.
What "Dexter's Laboratory" did in the '90s, "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" did in the late 2000s. This is a show that helped launch several animation careers, with plenty of writers and storyboard artists...

TV networks come and go. While the state of cable TV now isn’t particularly stable amid the constant streaming wars, TV network deaths have always been monumental funerals. Corporate mergers, changes in demographics, and budget cuts all contributed to channel deaths during the early 21st century that crushed my spirits – long before Netflix even cast the first streaming stone.
Not a day goes by when I don’t reflect upon my childhood spent watching programming on long-gone networks. These networks gave unrepresented artists platforms, brought audiences of underserved demographics together, and ultimately established specific TV identities. These are a few channels that deserve a second or third shot at life.
Spike TV
Before it became the “Yellowstone and Friends” channel, also known as Paramount Network, Spike TV was machismo-television personified. Who doesn’t remember the days of watching Rambo, Star Wars marathons, and 1000 Ways to Die in rotation?...

It is well known that in the entertainment industry, there are far more rejected ideas and concepts for movies and shows than ones that are eventually made. Disney is no stranger to this, as many of its early or canceled concepts have become well-known within the fandom. The trouble is that many of those concepts are locked away in a vault, never to be seen by the general public.
Now, in a series of massive online leaks, multiple pilots, sporty bibles, and show concepts give fans a look at what could have been for some of their favorite shows and what we never got to see. These leaks include not only Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon projects but also Disney Channel/Disney Xd shows.

The phenomenal ‘90s drama series The X-Files is reportedly getting a reboot from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. The legendary show became a worldwide phenomenon in the 90s due to its blend of investigative drama with supernatural elements. The show also skyrocketed actors Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to global stardom.
While the new reboot is still in development, original creator Chris Carter mentioned how difficult it was for him to mount the show. He recalled an instance where he had to fight for Anderson to be a part of the series as the Fox Network preferred someone who would fit in their idea of s*x appeal. The network reportedly wanted someone like Pamela Anderson for the role of Dana Scully.

Outside of his time fighting with a lightsaber, Mark Hamill has dominated the world of voice acting, having been a part of more animated projects than almost anyone in the film industry. He has played characters from all corners of the genre, being a part of the Marvel animated universe, The Sandman, The Boy and The Heron, and even Gravity Falls.
Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)
However, perhaps the one role that has been even more iconic than Luke Skywalker was his time as The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. He integrated the true essence of the character when he was portraying him, which is perfectly reflected in his performance. Fans adored how he played the Clown Prince of Gotham, and he has gone down in history as one of the best animated versions.

The cult-favorite animated series ran for two seasons on Disney Channel from 2012-2013 and can be streamed now on Disney+.
Created by writer Alex Hirsch, Gravity Falls was a dark mystery comedy series that -while a massive deviation from typical Disney fare - proved successful, as the show was heralded for its poignant moments and incredibly intelligent narrative web.

In a world replete with quick-spreading disinformation and the subsequent, dangerous proliferation of kooky conspiracy theories, the 2021 animated series "Inside Job" — created by Shion Takeuchi (a writer on "Gravity Falls" and "Disenchantment") — was perfectly timed. "Inside Job" posited that every single conspiracy theory you've ever heard — whether it be Reptilians, JFK, the Mandela effect, the flat Earth, or the faked moon landing — were all 100 percent real. Clones were out there, severed heads were being kept alive in labs, and aliens regularly visited Earth. Just like in "The X-Files," ordinary citizens weren't allowed access to this knowledge.
Earth's conspiracies were overseen by a mysterious underground organization called Cognito, Inc., one of six major shadow governments secretly in charge of the world. The other five were the Catholic Church, the Illuminati, Atlantis, the Reptoids, and the Juggalos (tee hee). The central joke of "Inside Job" was that Cognito, Inc. was staffed by flawed,...

Ultraman is back.
The character, created by Eiji Tsuburaya in 1966 with the “Ultra Q” and “Ultraman” television series, is back in a brand-new animated feature called “Ultraman Rising.” It’s due out next year but you can watch the trailer above.
In “Ultraman Rising,” baseball superstar Ken Sato, the new Ultraman, “quickly finds more than he bargained for as he’s forced to raise the offspring of his greatest foe,” according to the official synopsis. The trailer shows him battling a huge monster and then effectively adopting the monster’s child, which puts him at odds with his persona as creature-slaying titan. There’s a wonderful moment in the trailer where Ken shrinks down to his human size but the baby still towers above him.
The voice cast for the animated feature includes Christpher Sean, Gedde Watanabe, Tamlyn Tomita, Keone Young and Julia Harriman. Shannon Tindle, creator of Netflix’s fantastic “Lost Ollie,...

Through its first six seasons, identifying who voiced one of the many aliens, critters, or goobers on Rick and Morty was a pretty easy thing to do. That’s because, in addition to performing as the titular lead characters, co-creator Justin Roiland also embodied most of the show’s strange background players.
Following season 6, however, Roiland was fired from the series due to receiving domestic battery charges (later dropped) and multiple allegations of sexual assault. With Roiland gone, multiple actors have stepped in to fill the roles of Rick, Morty, and the whole other host of characters from the Adult Swim hit’s increasingly large constellation of galaxies, timelines, and multiverses. Even without the personnel change midway through, Rick and Morty‘s cast of voice actors was already pretty confusing beast to make sense of. So let’s try to do exactly that.

"Oldboy" is a hugely influential film, one that helped usher in a new age of Korean cinema and also made it popular in the West. The film is an adaptation of the manga of the same name, written by Garon Tsuchiya and illustrated by Nobuaki Minegishi, and it's a phenomenal tale of revenge. "Oldboy" is arguably best remembered for not only its plot twist -- which remains one of the best ones in cinema -- but an insanely well-choreographed hallway fight scene.
This scene has become something akin to the bike slide in "Akira," in that it became synonymous with the film, and it has since inspired countless homages and parodies. The Netflix universe of Marvel shows that started with "Daredevil" were essentially built off of hallway fight scenes, while James Gunn recently paid homage to the scene in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," as did an episode of "Superman & Lois.

Almost everyone has a memory of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Their cultural ubiquity has been maintained for almost 40 years on toy shelves, game consoles, and Saturday morning cartoons, but there’s something about reptilian ninjutsu masters who binge on pizza slices in the New York City sewers that conjures deeply personal recollections of halcyon youth.
No matter when you met Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello, you were a fan for life. This is true for the filmmakers of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. In interviews with Den of Geek, director and co-writer Jeff Rowe, co-writer and producer Seth Rogen, and producer James Weaver all regale us with tales of growing up with Tmnt fever, even dragging their parents on wild toy store hunts to complete their collections.
“It was the first thing that I ever loved in life,” Rowe tells us about his fandom.

Charlie Kaufman is known for his mind-bending script work on projects like “Adaptation” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” But his next project will be entirely more genial – an original DreamWorks Animation feature called “Orion and the Dark,” coming to Netflix in 2024. The announcement was made at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, as part of a larger DreamWorks panel.
Based on the book by Emma Yarlett, the project stars Jacob Tremblay as Orion, a scaredy-cat indoor kid (described in the official synopsis as “a ball of adolescent anxiety”) and Paul Walter Hauser as Dark, the living embodiment of the night and the thing Orion is most scared of. Director Sean Charmatz, a DreamWorks veteran of the “Trolls Holiday Special,” stressed that, even though it’s a DreamWorks movie on Netflix it “has all of the Charlie Kaufman stuff in it.” (Kaufman previously worked on “Kung Fu Panda 2” for the studio.

For his next project for Netflix, Jorge R. Gutiérrez is heading back to the world of Maya and the Three.
The Emmy and Annie-award-winning Mexican animation film director said he is in development on a new limited series that will be set in the same mythological Mesoamerican universe as his 2021 hit Netflix series Maya and the Three and that of his 2014 animated feature The Book of Life.
The project will be Gutiérrez’s third under the overall deal he and his production company Mexopolis signed with Netflix in 2020. Maya and the Three, a feminist spin on Mesoamerican mythology about a female warrior princess who embarks on a journey to fulfill an ancient prophecy and save humanity from vengeful gods, dropped in the summer of 2021 and was a global smash for the streamer. Paramount’s animated reboot “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” doesn’t hit theaters until August, but the film made a splash on Monday at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival where it debuted to a rousing reception complete with a six-minute standing ovation. The crowd’s applause was so strong, in fact, that director Jeff Rowe was dragged back onstage to take it all in.
“Being in the room and feeling all the reactions and hearing all the laughter was amazing, but what really stood out to me was to see our movie received and appreciated in that way by a lot of people who really love and care about animation,” Rowe told TheWrap in a statement.
The cut screened at Annecy had just a few scenes of rough animation but was otherwise complete (including a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). Those in the audience included “The Mitchells vs. the Machines...

The boys are back, and they’re heading to the world of animation once more. Oscar-winning composers and musicians Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will compose the score for the upcoming Paramount film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” marking their second animated feature after scoring Pixar’s 2020 film “Soul.”
The animated reboot is produced and co-written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and Rogen called Reznor and Ross’ score “incredible” while adding that the process of working with the duo has been “thrilling.”
Directed by Jeff Rowe, an animation veteran who worked on the acclaimed series “Gravity Falls” before co-directing the Netflix feature “The Mitchells vs. the Machines,” this new “Tmnt” movie aims to position the titular turtles as real-life teenagers, drawing inspiration from coming-of-age films. This post contains spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
Being a superhero movie fan requires a constant suspension of disbelief. Whether we're accepting the narrative coexistence of what Sam Wilson calls "the big three", looking past the fact that no one in the world ever really responded to the appearance of Tiamut in "Eternals," or glossing over some high-profile recasts, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are pretty consistently asked to just kind of roll with things.
Now fifteen years into its run, the franchise has also gotten into the habit of reusing some actors in more than one role, a method that can be either distracting or delightful depending on the context. The list of actors who have appeared in more than one MCU role is already massive, but it grew even more this week as "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" repurposed familiar voices and faces in surprising new roles.

Celebrity relationships are often a point of interest among fans, particularly when the couple in question does everything they can to evade media attention. But every once in a while, a famous couple will open up about their journey, endearing fans to them even more. Such is the case with Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter, the latter of whom shared his personal account of their relationship.
Where fans have seen Jason Ritter and Melanie Lynskey before

In Ritter’s case, the actor — son of the late John Ritter — has appeared in movies such as Freddy vs. Jason, Frozen II, and The Wicker Man. And on TV, he’s starred in Joan of Arcadia, Gravity Falls, and Parenthood, the latter of which landed him an Emmy Award nomination.

"Gravity Falls" creator Alex Hirsch has never been shy about venting his frustrations with Disney's censors. To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the series, he tweeted out a video of his most insane back-and-forths with Disney's Standards & Practices division, who were deeply concerned about risque jokes like Soos Ramirez wearing a teddy bear costume or a horse smoking a pipe. The squeaky clean House of Mouse could never survive vulgar content like -- checks notes -- the phrase "poop-face."
The most frustrating instances arose any time the series dared to portray or even hint at a same-sex couple. Something that the "Gravity Falls" creatives dared to try, over and over again. Once, they even succeeded in getting something through — but that win didn't come until the series finale.
Throughout the show's two-season run, fans suspected that the relationship between Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland was romantic. The chemistry, the twinkle...

"Gravity Falls" is one of the most beloved cartoons of the past decade. It is a show that forever changed Disney Xd, with a love for genre, and a level of lore and world-building that isn't very common in animated shows. The show followed the Pines siblings, Dipper and Mabel, who are sent to spend the summer with their great-uncle (or "Grunkle" for short) Stan in a small town in Oregon called Gravity Falls, which is full of supernatural creatures.
Throughout the show, we see a number of mysteries being raised, strange phenomena occurring, and an inter-dimensional being starting to hold a grudge against the Pines that grew into a burning desire to destroy the world.
This culminated with a three-part finale of truly apocalyptic proportions — fitting, since the episode is titled "Weirdmageddon" — that showed the final confrontation between the Pines family and Bill Cipher. It is a very emotional finale,...

Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland was today (22 March) cleared of domestic violence charges.
Adult Swim, the network behind the animated series, announced it was severing ties with Roiland earlier this year after it was reported that he was facing charges in connection with a 2020 incident.
Kimberly Edds, spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney’s office, confirmed in a statement (per Variety): “We dismissed the charges today as a result of having insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Roiland shared a statement about the verdict on social media with the one-word caption: “Justice.”
“I have always known that these claims were false – and I never had any doubt that this day would come,” he wrote. “I’m thankful that this case has been dismissed but, at the same time, I’m still deeply shaken by the horrible lies that were reported about me during this process.

Just a few days after the all-star voice cast for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was revealed, the first trailer for the upcoming CGI-animated reboot has arrived. Coming from producer and “permanent teenager” Seth Rogen, the latest adventure looks to take a unique direction with the iconic heroes in a half-shell.
The new preview immediately reveals an animation style owing more than a little to the Spider-Verse series from Sony, though with less of a pop-art feel and more of a gritty NYC vibe. As soon as the Turtles themselves speak, you’ll also notice that these rambunctious reptiles appear much younger than fans may be used to; while the ’90s and Michael Bay-led live-action Tmnt tales arguably show us 16-19-year-old turtles, Mutant Mayhem seems to be focusing on a burgeoning group of heroes who likely don’t have their driver licenses.

The new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie coming later this year promises to show you these comics characters like you’ve never seen them before — in more ways than one. The first trailer for “Mutant Mayhem” not only introduces a visually striking animation style for the new film (not unlike “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”), but also showcases a twist on the characters that positions them as genuine teenagers (right down to the voice casting) instead of the pseudo early twentysomething iterations that have permeated other adaptations.
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” hails from director Jeff Rowe, a writer on the acclaimed series “Gravity Falls” and co-writer and co-director of the Oscar-nominated Netflix animated film “The Mitchells vs. the Machines.”

The film is directed by Jeff Rowe, co-writer of "The Mitchells vs The Machines" and several episodes of "Gravity Falls" and "Disenchantment." The film is produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg; as children of the 1980s, the pair would have grown up at the height of Turtle-mania.
Rogen has said the film will be "deeply personal," and highlight the "teenage" part of these heroes. The script is credited to Brendan O'Brien, who co-wrote the 2014 Rogen comedy vehicle "Neighbors." This isn't Rogen's first foray into animation — he was a writer and producer on 2016's "Sausage Party" — but I imagine that...

Later this week Gorillaz, the cartoon pop band created by Blur stalwart Damon Albarn and “Tank Girl” cartoonist Jamie Hewlett, will release their eighth studio album, “Cracker Island.” The album is already receiving rave reviews (Rolling Stones called it the band’s “most purely pleasurable LP yet”) but, sadly, another Gorillaz project is no more.
Albarn, talking to Belgian publication Humo (via Stereogum), said the Gorillaz movie that was being worked on with Netflix is no longer happening: “The new record came about because Jamie and I were often in Los Angeles. We were working on a Gorillaz feature film, which will never happen.”
When the publication asked if the movie was “permanently suspended,” Albarn confirmed that, yes, it was dead. “That is to say, and without naming names because the whole matter has not yet been settled: the streaming platform for which we were making the film has withdrawn.

It's hard to overstate the importance of Bruce W. Smith's "The Proud Family." The Disney Channel animated series was one of the first animated shows with a Black creator and a majority Black cast, unafraid to explore subjects like race, class, and cultural differences in a way that young audiences could understand. The show originally ran from 2001-2005, with 52 episodes, and the film, "The Proud Family Movie," marked the end of the series. That is, until Disney+ came calling and rebooted the series for a new generation.
Now in its second season, "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder" continues the saga of The Proud Family and their diverse community of friends, family, and colleagues. /Film's own Rafael Motamayor recently spoke with show creator Bruce W. Smith and longtime producer Ralph Farquhar about continuing the series and gave some exclusive insight into what it's like working for the House of Mouse.
