Jordan Peele does not miss. After years of delighting audiences everywhere with subversive and hilarious sketches on "Key and Peele," Peele went on to become an Academy Award winning filmmaker with one of the best debut features in decades. "Get Out" remains a masterpiece of horror, a fantastic calling card for a new director and a hell of a debut that was followed by more phenomenal thrillers, each unique and still hugely entertaining.
Part of the magic of "Get Out" lies in the marriage of Peele's influences. You can clearly see this being the work of a filmmaker with a deep knowledge and passion for the horror genre, but also excellent comedic timing and sensibilities -- both of which were present in "Key and Peele." For the comedy, Peele allowed a great deal of improvisation, which made the horror even more poignant.

Jordan Peele is undoubtedly one of the most talented and important filmmakers of today. Although he was initially known as a comedian because of his Key & Peele series, he has since evolved into a complex and versatile filmmaker who is able to blend horror with strong social commentary. Get Out, Us, and Nope are the movies he directed, but he also produced several other major hits and also worked on the short-lived revival of The Twilight Zone. Now, while we do know that Peele himself is working on a new movie, while we’re waiting for more updates on that movie, we have more information about his next project, a movie he is producing!
The movie we are talking about is going to be directed by Justin Tipping, who has some experience with movies and television, with his most important works being Kicks (2016), Flatbush Misdemeanors (2021), and Joe vs. Carole...

Jordan Peele has achieved, in a relatively short time, what many other directors only dream of achieving. Not only is Peele capable of crafting hits that deliver the goods both critically and commercially, but his name means something to audiences now. His ideas and his name are enough to sell a meaningful number of tickets, not unlike Quentin Tarantino or Christopher Nolan. It's rare air, and it's a powerful tool in Hollywood. There was a very specific moment where it became clear that Peele did, indeed, have this power, and it came in 2019 when "Us" hit theaters.
Before making himself known to the world as a visionary filmmaker, Peele broke out via comedy, primarily with his comedy sketch show "Key & Peele.

Exclusive: Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), and Larry Joe Campbell (The Orville) have been set for guest star roles in the forthcoming second season of Fox’s popular workplace comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale.
Others set to appear in S2 guest roles, as previously announced, include Ken Jeong, Sarah Chalke, and Krystal Smith.
Premiering last February, the show created by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Dan Sterling follows a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. McHale plays Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm creator and star gets into it with Hymnson Chan in a two-episode arc.
Chan, whose character works in a Chinese restaurant, appears in the fifth and sixth episode of the final season of the HBO comedy.
Chan won a SAG Awards for his stunt work in Avengers: Endgame and has appeared in series such as I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, Grey’s Anatomy, Kidding, Shameless, Key & Peele and Jane The Virgin. He also recurred in Syfy’s Underlying.

This year’s SAG Awards nominations for drama ensemble run the gamut in terms of total cast members nominated. You have “The Gilded Age” on one side with a jaw-dropping 34 people represented. And then you have “The Last of Us” on the other side with just two — hi, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey! HBO’s zombie apocalypse series has now tied the Screen Actors Guild record with “Key and Peele,” which was the first TV show to nab an ensemble citation with just two stars: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
The “Key and Peele” funny duo lost to “Orange Is the New Black” for comedy ensemble in 2016, which had a whopping 34 cast members nominated that year. Hmm, a two-person cast losing to a 34-person ensemble? Might SAG Awards history repeat itself? “The Last of Us” competes this year against “The Gilded Age” (34 cast members), “Succession” (18), “The Crown” (15) and “The Morning Show...

With his 2017 directorial debut "Get Out," Jordan Peele firmly established himself as a horror filmmaker to watch. It was a box office sensation, making Peele a household name for more than his comedy. Viewers might have shown up expecting something in the vein of his sketch comedy work, anticipating a darker story out of the legendary run of "Key and Peele," in which he performed with Keegan-Michael Key. But "Get Out," while often darkly comedic in its skewering of a supposed "post-race" America, was an all-out horror movie, and was made with such brilliant technique and crackling tension that whatever Peele did next would have an audience. And this time, they'd be ready for the horror.
That follow-up was 2019's "Us." Altogether weirder, more sprawling, and more ambitious than his previous movie, "Us" follows a family on a vacation that goes violently wrong when an underground civilization of doppelgangers rises...

In July 2022, on the heels of the premiere of his third feature “Nope,” Jordan Peele went viral when he responded to a tweet calling him the greatest horror director of all time. “Sir, please put the phone down I beg you,” the writer/director wrote. “Sorry. I love your enthusiasm, but I will just not tolerate any John Carpenter slander!!!”
That’s just one of many examples of Peele professing his love for classic horror cinema. Even before he established himself as one of the industry’s top filmmakers, Peele was always open about his love for the sometimes taboo genre. In recent years, he has used his newfound status as a darling of the horror community to wax poetic about the many scary subgenres he enjoys. From 1980s slashers to meticulously crafted contemporary psychological horror, Peele’s appreciation for the art of the scare only seems to increase as his filmography grows.

It is hard to recall a more vocal or stunned reaction at the movies than when my theater echoed with a hundred different gasps in Jordan Peele’s Get Out. You know the scene. Daniel Kaluuya’s Chris Washington has finally realized just how sinister the Armitage family’s designs for him are: the doorway is blocked by snide little brother Jeremy (Caleb Landry Jones), the patriarchal Dean (Bradley Whitford) has finally stopped bragging about how he voted for Obama and is now speaking about how white people are gods, and Chris’ white girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), is desperately searching her massive purse for the car keys that would be Chris’ salvation.
Peele ratchets up the tension of the sequence like the classic paranoia thrillers that influenced him in his youth. Everyone is out to get Chris. But the character and the audience are only clued into how devastatingly true...

Jordan Peele wasn't always one of the greatest horror filmmakers in the world. First he was a prolific comedian, starring in five seasons of the late-night sketch comedy series "Mad TV," impersonating celebrities left and right. Then he created his own show with his fellow "Mad TV" alumni Keegan-Michael Key, appropriately titled "Key & Peele," and that show was a major comedy hit that's still actively memed to this day.
It made sense that, when Jordan Peele moved into the realm of movies, his first project was the phenomenally funny buddy comedy "Keanu." Peele co-wrote the screenplay and starred opposite Key as mild-mannered friends who have to step outside their comfort zone and into the world of violent crime in order to rescue their kidnapped, adorable kitten. Peele may not have directed it, but it's a delight, and established Peele as a force to be reckoned with in motion picture comedies as well as TV.

Meredith Stiehm has been reelected as president of WGA West, in a strong show of support as the union’s strike continues into its fifth month.
Stiehm took 3,354 votes, easily defeating Rich Talarico, who took just 300 votes.
Two other officers were also reelected: Michele Mulroney, as vice president, and Betsy Thomas, as secretary-treasurer. Five board members were reelected, and three new members were also elected to the board.
Stiehm was the showrunner of “Cold Case” on CBS and “The Bridge” on FX. She was also a key figure in the union’s fight against agency packaging in 2019-21. She alleged that CAA, her former agency, collected almost as much for packaging “Cold Case” as she did for writing the show.
Since the strike began on May 2, Stiehm has described herself as a “wartime president,” and has said that the union is on the path to success.

Following the successful run of his Comedy Central series “Key & Peele,” Jordan Peele made a well-received pivot to the psychological horror genre, starting with his 2017 feature “Get Out” starring Daniel Kaluuya followed by 2019’s “Us” with and 2022’s “Nope.” His current catalog of thrillers center on themes of Blackness in America, pitting the sometimes horrifying reality of these experiences against the classic supernatural tropes of scary movies.
Now, the actor, writer and director is releasing a new book, “Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror,” a hard-cover curation of some of the best horror stories from 19 Black writers. Peele edited the anthology and wrote the foreword for the book, which is already a No. 1 new-release on Amazon.

Meredith Stiehm, seeking reelection to a second term as president of the WGA West, told her members today that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers’s only option to end the ongoing Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes is “to make a fair deal for writers and actors – one that shares the wealth with the people who create it.” She vowed, however, that once the strike is over, the guild and the studios will return to being “partners” once again.
The WGA strike is now in its 85th day, and the SAG-AFTRA strike is now in its 12th day. Her challenger in the race for president is Rich Talarico, a Peabody Award winner and four-time Emmy-nominated writer and producer who’s perhaps best known for his work on Comedy Central’s Key & Peele.

The Machine is loud, gross, obnoxious and overbearing. It’s also disarming, quick-witted, fast moving and becomes increasingly funny as it ends up in, of all places, Russia for its payoff scenes.
Presided over, if that is the right term, by the irrepressible Bert Kreischer, the big-gutted comedian who goes by the name The Machine and prefers to appear without a shirt on whenever possible, has landed his first big feature film at age 50 and continues the same comic shtick he’s been doing for years. Lo and behold, it’s still pretty funny stuff. This is a big picture for a big guy, and Kreischer is so persistent, and persistently off the wall, that it’s finally far easier to enjoy the party than to carp and resist.

After being publicly fired from the show he created, it seemed Dan Harmon was done with "Community" forever. Rarely, if ever, had a mainstream U.S. television network rehired a volatile showrunner after parting ways with them. Then again, "Community" always had a David and Goliath spirit and a surprising resilience to it, so anything was possible. Still, when NBC and Sony Pictures TV decided to bring Harmon back and hand him the keys to his show once again after an underwhelming fourth season without him, Harmon didn't have time to take a victory lap. Instead, as he relayed to Uproxx in an interview, he had one question: "Who the hell is gonna write the show"?
Because the negotiations to get him back took a little while to iron out, Harmon and his core team felt like they were already behind the eight ball when it came to season 5. "So...

Exclusive: Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) has closed a deal to return for Deadpool 3, joining the Ryan Reynolds-led ensemble of the threequel that Shawn Levy will direct and produce for Marvel Studios.
Reynolds and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will also produce, as previously announced, working from a script by Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese and Zeb Wells.
While Deadpool 3‘s plot is under wraps, past installments have followed the misadventures of Wade Wilson (Reynolds), the foul-mouthed mercenary who transforms into the immortal superhero known as Deadpool following a disfiguring science experiment.
Delaney’s character Peter joins Deadpool and Weasel (T.J. Miller) as part of their mutant-heavy new team X-Force in Deadpool 2, despite the fact that he’s a run-of-the-mill human with no powers or special skills to speak of. Quinta Brunson is bringing some April Fools’ Day energy to Saturday Night Live ahead of her hosting debut.
The Abbott Elementary creator and star is set to lead the NBC sketch comedy series April 1, marking its first new episode since Jenna Ortega hosted the show March 11. Brunson will be joined by musical guest Lil Yachty, who is similarly making his SNL debut.
In a video released Wednesday, featured player Molly Kearney talks to the camera, in a style similar to that employed by ABC’s Abbott Elementary, and explains that Brunson has been caught up in the April Fools’ Day spirit. As the footage shows, Brunson keeps hiding throughout the studio to surprise the performer with unexpected gifts.
“I’m not sure Quinta understands the concept of a prank,” Kearney quips. This leads Brunson to reevaluate her plan to pull a prank involving the purchase of a brand-new car.

The movie will be Peele’s first to open during during December, a busy month for film releases that often features several Oscar hopefuls as well as big-budget blockbusters. The Daniels are on top of the world. There was a running joke between Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert during the first week of shooting “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” After a successful first read-through, and perfect shots and framework, the two would turn to each other and whisper, “this is nonstop entertainment.” And even though they weren’t successful in getting a cameo of their “Swiss Army Man” leading men Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano into the film, the joke is God’s honest truth.
On this episode of the award-winning Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, we sit down with “Everything Everywhere All at Once” directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The dynamic duo talks about the origins of their collaboration which began in film school, assembling their outstanding cast and artisans ensemble and what’s next for them in the film and television space.

"Bert - take off that shirt and show those SOBs who you really are!" Sony Pictures has revealed the full red band trailer for the wild and crazy comedy movie The Machine, from comedy filmmaker Peter Atencio, known for directing "Key & Peele" and their film Keanu previously. We featured the teaser last fall, now get ready for the entire story. From Legendary Pictures, this is an adaptation of comedian Bert Kreischer's crazy (true?) story of that time he was an exchange student in Russia. He ended up studying Russian at university and while on a trip there got the nickname "The Machine" because of his mad drinking abilities. Then he unwittingly helped the Russian mafia with a train robbery. Bert's drunken past then catches up with him 20 years down the road when he and his father are kidnapped by those Bert wronged 20 years ago while drunk on a college semester abroad.

Despite the fact that William H. Macy pulled off an impressive three individual SAG Award wins for “Shameless” between 2015 and 2018, the 11-season series was never recognized in the comedy ensemble category. Among Macy’s perpetually overlooked cast mates was Jeremy Allen White, who moved on to a starring role on “The Bear” one year after “Shameless” concluded. Now that his new series is a proven hit with SAG voters, he not only has a long-awaited first shot at a comedy ensemble win, but could also follow in the footsteps of his former TV dad by achieving a solo victory.

There are a number of people in the annals of Hollywood history that just put a smile on your face whenever you see them. In generations past, we've been graced by the likes of Lucille Ball, Chris Farley, and Robin Williams. In more modern times, maybe Gabriel Iglesias, D'Arcy Carden, Wayne Brady, or Jason Sudeikis do the trick for you. But someone else that certainly fills that role whenever they appear on a show or in a movie has to be Gary Anthony Williams. Probably best known for playing Stevie's dad, Abe, on "Malcolm in the Middle," the actor and comedian's resume stretches a mile long due to all of the diverse projects he's been involved in. "Key & Peele," "How I Met Your Mother," "Weeds," "Archer," "The Eric Andre Show," and "Reno 911" are just a few places where you may have seen his lovable face or heard his boisterous voice.

This year's Oscar nominations are out, and they are both full of surprises and also kind of expected? Sure, some favorite and acclaimed performances and movies got snubbed, and "Rrr" got outright done dirty by the Academy, but most of the nominees were movies that critics and experts had called for months as having real shots, from "Elvis," to "Banshees of Inisherin," and Brendan Fraser.
Then there's "Everything Everywhere All At Once," the type of movie many people hoped would get some sort of recognition, but few genuinely believed would get an actual nomination, let alone 11. And yet, the Oscars now have the chance to actually reward the best movie of the year, one that has stunning visuals, a mesmerizing story, one of the best casts of the year, tear-jerking emotional scenes, and also some of the most absurd, cuckoo bananas, ridiculous moments in a film.

With only two movies under his belt and Nope on the horizon, Jordan Peele has proven himself to be one of the most fascinating voices within the horror genre. And if you had said that seven or eight years ago, most people would’ve thought you were crazy. But even when he was best known for the hilarious sketch comedy show Key and Peele, Jordan proved very capable of combining surreal dark humor with unnerving imagery.
Although we knew the man was very talented, it’s safe to say no one was quite prepared for the impact his debut feature, Get Out, would have, not just on horror fans, but the cinematic landscape at large. Socially relevant, morbidly funny, and consistently terrifying, the film became an instant classic upon its release, before culminating at the Academy Awards with four Oscar nominations and one win for Peele’s ingenious, layered screenplay.

The Television Academy is taking another stab at resolving its Emmys variety talk and variety sketch category conundrum. The org announced Tuesday that it would scrap those two controversial categories and introduce two new ones: Outstanding talk series, which will center on shows that focus on “unscripted interviews or panel discussions between a host/hosts and guest celebrities or personalities”; and outstanding scripted variety series, which focuses on “programs that are primarily scripted or feature loosely scripted improv and consist of discrete scenes, musical numbers, monologues, comedy stand-ups, sketches, etc.”
In creating these two new categories, the Television Academy is likely hoping to solve two debates at once: What to do with the decline in sketch shows, which have shrunk to a point where they can no longer sustain a separate Emmy category; and how to separate topical and news-focused talk shows from more variety-centric talkers.

Trevor Noah taking over “The Daily Show” from Jon Stewart went better than anyone might have hoped, both in keeping the series alive and in boosting Noah’s own profile: As Noah prepares to leave, with his final broadcast slated for Dec. 8, he looks like a person with unlimited potential and “The Daily Show” looks like a show that survived a now-complete reinvention. It also helped, a bit, in covering for the increasing weakness of Comedy Central, a once-sterling TV brand that, in its post-Noah era, will likely be searching for an identity with less inventory than ever.
Names floated to replace Stewart, when he announced his departure, included Amy Poehler and Chris Rock; it’s unsurprising that they turned it down, but perhaps a little unexpected that the show was as successful as it was at creating a star. Jordan Peele's meteoric ascent in the film industry has landed him squarely on the map as one of the rare figures -- alongside proven talents such as Christopher Nolan, M. Night Shyamalan, and a select few others -- who's able to bring in audiences to original genre movies by virtue of their name alone. But Peele's actual directing work really only scratches the surface of what he brings to the table. In addition to lending his voice to animated movies like "Wendell & Wild" and "The Bob's Burgers Movie," he's also used his considerable influence to set up his own production company and help get several other projects off the ground.

Over the last five years, Jordan Peele has reinvented himself as one of the most acclaimed horror filmmakers working today. His directorial debut, "Get Out," won him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, which is about as successful as you can get for a first-time filmmaker. However, as any "Key & Peele" fan knows, Peele comes from a comedy background, and for him, the road to movies like "Get Out," "Us," and "Nope," was paved with as much failure as success.
Sketch comedy is one thing, of course, but live comedy can be especially brutal for a performer onstage if and when their jokes bomb and they have to deal with rejection from the audience in real-time (not unlike the classic "Key & Peele" sketch where an insult comic meets his match). One of the more popular sketches to originate from Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s sketch comedy series Key & Peele was the substitute teacher sketch. Key played Mr. Garvey, a tightly wound inner-city teacher who had problem pronouncing the names of his middle-class white students, such as Aaron as A. A. Ron or Jacqueline as Jay-kwellin. Well, Key has reprised his role of the iconic substitute teacher in a new commercial for the Paramount+ streaming service.
Perched atop Paramount Mountain, Mr. Garvey goes through a roll call for a group of animated and human characters, such as Dora the Explorer, Bumblebee, Murf, and more. The end of the commercial also includes a callback to the very first substitute teacher sketch thanks to an appearance from Los Angeles Rams player Aaron Donald.

Keegan-Michael Key’s substitute teacher Mr. Garvey, one of the signature characters from former Comedy Central sketch series Key & Peele, has returned to the head of the class to promote Paramount+.
The streaming service has booked a 60-second spot during tomorrow’s Thanksgiving Day NFL telecast for the plug (watch it above). The synergistic promo features Mr. Garvey atop “Paramount Mountain,” reprising the gag from the show in which he mispronounces every name on the attendance sheet, browbeating students into agreeing with his aggressive malaprops. Being the award-winning comedian that he is, Keegan Michael Key has a pretty high bar when it comes to comedy projects. And with a resume like his, it's not hard to understand why. After closing out his sketch comedy run on "Key and Peele," the actor went on to star in titles like "Friends From College," "Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers," and "Schmigadoon!" It's a wild rage of tones and subgenres because those details aren't how Key makes his decisions. Instead, he searches out projects that intrigue him.
"There has to be something special," Key told Collider during a September interview. "There has to be some kind of twist to it. The meta nature of the content is really what drew me to this project."

"Wendell & Wild," the latest animation offering from stop-motion juggernaut Henry Selick ("The Nightmare Before Christmas"), is as weird and wonderful as a Selick and Jordan Peele collaboration sounds. While only several weeks old, the film already feels buried beneath the sheer volume of television and movies Netflix released this Halloween season. As soon as one film lands on the streaming platform, hundreds of titles are waiting in the wings to take its place. But "Wendell & Wild" is not only Selick's first directorial outing since "Coraline," but also a stop-motion saga that deserves to stand alongside the latter as a pioneering piece of animation.
With a script co-written by Peele, "Wendell & Wild" is as funny -- and scary -- as his involvement suggests. The film revolves around Kat Elliot's (Lyric Ross) quest to revive her parents from the dead. "Wendell & Wild" barrels through a tapestry of gothic horror iconography,...
