It is clear Klepper is supposed to be the new John Stewart. Trevor Noah is funny and does a reasonably good job, but nowhere as good as John Stewart. Unfortunately the daily show has become a platform for a Daily Anti Racism crusade, the intention of Noah and TV makers is commendable, but I am sorry to say that for international audience like myself the constant topic of racism (only the kind that applies to Afro Americans) is getting really boring! Again, addressing the subject is great and admirable. But day-in-day out, really? The message looses its power. Ask yourself, what if Luther King had a 'I have a dream' speech every day. People be like: Yeaaaaaaaah yeaah, whatever dude!
Also boring is ANOTHER show that is going to address the exact same issues as Colbert, Oliver, Maher, Jeffreys, Conan, Noah and the regular news. Therefore I think Klepper will have a hard time succeeding, overkill on comedy, overkill on politics. Too much. Just piles and piles of it on TV.
Klepper started off with a rather failed populist move, attacking Alex Jones. Steven Colbert has imitated him, not original! A very weak move. His co-hosts weren't really impressive either, semi funny skits. Nor was his guest interesting. The Pilot was a typical pilot wherein they tried too hard.
The overall content was delivered rather fast and rather sloppy. Kleppers'' interview skills, weren't impressive either, nor funny, nor intelligent. The 'opposition' concept was rather vague and blurry to me.
Surely, despite my disappointment, this is a pilot and there is plenty to work with. I'll be watching Klepper, he absolutely has the potential to become big. He just needs to find his own character, but absolutely polish The Opposition to something more than it is now.
EDIT: 06/10/2017 Seen a, or the, second show. Still rubbish! A cynical tirade is all it is. Simply saying the opposite of what you mean and making this known through a cynic tone, isn't comedy. It's simplicity.
EDIT 05/04/2018
Yeah. Klepper has found his way. I still feel his co-hosts are somewhat weak and like the Daily Show, overkill on the racism subject. It's wearing us out. The interviews are still crap. I stopped watching them. The comedy bit, hilarious though.
