Sounds from a Town I Love (2001)
Enjoyable, light Woody Allen short
This short played on one of the Support New York City telethons that took place shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It's an enjoyable little film involving many people saying funny things on their cell phones in New York. Not only is it funny, but it's Woody's first good film since "Everyone Says I Love You." Look fast for Tony Roberts.
Stoogemania (1985)
Dreadful!
This is an incredibly bad exploitation film. They took four comparatively weak public domain Stooge films and strung the worst plot imaginable around it. Horrible performances by all, including Sid Caeser (believe it or not), the Three Stooges Imitators, and that Mr. Krull guy. Horrible.
Have Rocket -- Will Travel (1959)
Not So Good
It seems by this point that the Stooges seemed apologetic about their work. There was once a time when the Three Stooges could hit each other all they wanted without fear, but by 1959, when they were re-discovered by kiddies on TV, they had to tone down the violence a little. `Have Rocket, Will Travel', their first feature, has less slaps and eye pokes than their average two-reeler, thus resulting in less laughs. The Three Stooges play
The Three Stooges, and this time they're janitors at NASA. A pretty scientist (Anna Lisa) is about to be fired because her attempts to send a spaceship to Jupiter have been unsuccessful. To help her, the Stooges figure out what was wrong, but accidentally send the rocket while they're still in it. They land on Jupiter find a talking Unicorn, and get into some trouble with an evil computer that makes evil mechanic clones of them. Will they survive? The problem with `Have Rocket, Will Travel' is that it's talking down to a juvenile audience and trying to please the kiddies instead of being funny. What we're left with is Three nice Stooges and a talking Unicorn, which is so silly that it's virtually indescribable. And what about the Jupiter scenes? They appear to have been hastily filmed in a national park hoping the audience wouldn't notice the obvious flaws. `Have Rocket, Will Travel' is certainly likable, and it has one or two enjoyable musical numbers, but it just doesn't have the primitive humour and the laughs of their shorts from the 30s and 40s. However, it did spawn a Three Stooges feature film series that included `Snow White and the Three Stooges', `The Three Stooges in Orbit', and `The Outlaws is Coming!'
Kook's Tour (1970)
A Truly Sad Final Film
I bought a DVD called "The Three Stooges: All Time Favorites" that had "Kook's Tour" on it. I was very excited because I knew it was the Stooges' last film, although I did know that it wasn't very good. Not very good was an understatement: it's a mess. The Stooges look pretty tired and don't seem to be having much fun, and they don't do anything that made them famous. No eye pokes. No face slaps. No "Knuckleheads". Not even any witty verbal banter. This is sad.
Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966)
This is hysterical
This movie is unbelievably funny. At a little organization I'm in called the Bad Movie Club, when we did an awards ceremony for our worst movies, this took home Worst Director, Worst Actor (John Reynolds), and Worst Musical Score. John Reynolds is hilarious as Torgo, and director Hal Warren gives a 'stirring' performance, as he says such lines as "The damn car won't start" with intense feeling. I hear Hal Warren and his wife actually dubbed the dialogue of every single character in the movie! Oh, and plus, this has my favorite MST3K Commentary (although "Mitchell" has a pretty good one, too)

Mitchell (1975)
A Stinky Mess
What a hilarious, stinky mess! Joe Don Baker is perfectly terrible as Mitchell the cop. Here's a little song I created His Name is Mitchell He's the Bad Ass Cop on the Force Is He a Slob? Of Course! His name is Mitchell! Mitchell! Mitchell!
He loves the lovely ladies even though he's big on flab He drinks so much, it kind of makes you sad
He prevents some really bad crimes Stops the crooks all the time All right so I am lyin' Mitchell is a slob But Singin' a nice song Is my job!
Battlefield Earth (2000)
Worst mainstream movie
This was terrible. The whole movie was set up like something out of MTV. I can take MTV on TV, but not in a 2 hour movie. Most of this movie looks like it's been put through a blue filter, and the camera angles are terrible. John Travolta stunk up the film. This may not be as bad as some underground films such as "Manos: the Hands of Fate", but is the worst mainstream film yet. 1 out of 10
Carnival of the Animals (1976)
not so good
I have been a long-time fan of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons, so I found this a disopointment. They basically show parts of the carnival of the animals symphony, with some "Fantasia" rip-off visuals. Bugs and Daffy's nararation was the highlight, but even that wasn't funny. Don't get me wrong, I love classical music, but this just wasn't satisfactory. They didn't even get Mel Blanc to do the voices!
