Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Chapters: Special 2 (2023)
The Ending to the Greatest TV Show of All Time
Attack on Titan's conclusion was a masterpiece, along with the rest of the show. The story of Eren Yeager's desire to go beyond the walls is one that is as beautiful as it is complex. The final episode encapsulates all of the horror and beauty that is to be found in the world, giving masterful conclusions to Mikasa and Armin as well as sending Eren off as perhaps the best character in fiction. The animation in this episode was the best in the entire show's run and the pacing made this incredibly enjoyable
to sit through despite the episode being nearly the length of a feature film. The theme of freedom is explored perfectly and we see what real freedom is as well as what it means to be a slave to freedom. This show is an absolute masterpiece and is absolutely the best anime of all time, and perhaps the greatest story of all time.
Jaws: The Revenge (1987)
One of the Worst Sequels of All Time
This is the film that ended the Jaws franchise. The first Jaws film never needed a sequel, yet 3 sequels were made with a spectrum of quality ranging from decent to awful. Jaws: The Revenge is at the bottom of that spectrum. This film is depressing, cheap and poorly made. The plot is ridiculous and the characters are all forgettable, aside from the ones that are featured in the first film. This film is soulless and has no purpose for existing. The tone of the film is miserable and is a terrible way to send off the Brody family. This is just a very cheap and forgettable sequel that has no right to exist.
The Last of Us: Look for the Light (2023)
Perfect Conclusion
The ending of this season was perfect. Joel's decision to kill the fireflies was brutal but also very in character for Joel. He values Ellie over the rest of humanity because Ellie is the new reason he has to live. The music, editing and set design are all fantastic as always. Salt Lake City looked fantastic and was very distinct from the other cities we've seen so far. This conclusion is complex and raises a lot of questions as to whether or not Joel made the right decision or if it was a selfish decision that doomed the rest of humanity. This is one of the best episodes of television history.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Chapters: Special 1 (2023)
All Time Great Episode of Television
Attack on Titan continues to be one of the best shows of all time. The show's plot has continued to impress for years. The character of Eren Yeager continues to become more and more complex and intriguing. The deuteragonists, Mikasa and Armin have a stellar dynamic with Eren that reveals the thematic brilliance of this show. The true meaning of freedom continues to be a theme that is explored. The way the episode expresses Eren's desire to want to be free and his drive to want to be free combined with the fact that he is a tormented character who deeply wants his suffering to end are only just one aspect of what made his episode fantastic. The animation, cinematography, dialogue, music and voice acting has always been incredible. Mikasa continues to be put in an interesting position in this latest arc due to the fact that Eren is the most important person in her life and she now has to face the reality that she has to stop him at any cost. Hange's death was executed to perfection with her going out on her own terms doing what she believes is right. This may have been the best episode of the show.
Kaguya-sama wa kokurasetai ~ Tensai tachi no ren'ai zunô sen ~: Dual Confessions, Part 2/The Shuchiin Afterparty (2022)
Immensely Satisfying
This is how you get something to pay off. 3 seasons of build up lead to a satisfying payoff that leaves room for a lot of intrigue for the next season. This episode was fantastic, with the characters of Kaguya and Miyuki and their romance taking the forefront, while not completely overshadowing how all of the other characters stories are being concluded in the festival arc. Tsubame and Ishigami also had a very satisfying payoff this season. This episode delivered.
The Quarry (2022)
A Stellar Horror Experience
The Quarry offers a great mix of mystery and horror mixed with a likable cast of characters who you don't want to see die. The plot of the Quarry unfolds perfectly in a 10-12 hour experience. I loved how the mystery was revealed over time. The music is excellent and the atmosphere truly feels unsettling and like the characters are never truly alone. The Quarry is an incredible horror game.
The Boys: Herogasm (2022)
The Best Episode of the Boys so Far
Unexpectedly, the show's most insane episode came in the middle of the season. Homelander's monologue in the mirror shows just how twisted he has become, he sees his desire to be loved as a weakness and given how this episode ended, I believe he will snap very soon. Soldier Boy is a compelling character, he seems like a man who doesn't care about the consequences of his actions but doesn't want to hurt innocent people. The conflict between Hughie and Annie has been set up perfectly so far and Annie's Instagram live at the end was a perfect cliffhanger. The insight into M. M. in this episode and the origin of his OCD is something that continues to make him one of the best characters in the show. The fight against Homelander was obviously insane and the bruise on his face is something that may effect his psyche. This episode had it all.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Dawn of Humanity (2022)
Brutal Departure to the Part
This ending has a cliffhanger that haunts you. This episode shows us desperation from certain characters as well as the true horror of what's going on. This episode was beautifully animated with an amazing OST to match. This is one of the best and most tragic episodes of the show and is a great ending to the part.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Pride (2022)
A Realistic Character Focused Episode
This episode puts a lot of emphasis on the arcs of some characters rather than advancing the plot in a major way. This episode had great music, tense scenes and was very entertaining.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Sunset (2022)
Great Episode
This episode does a great job at portraying the hopelessness of the situation the characters are in while also not doing anything major as far as the plot goes. The animation and music as always is great and the character moments in this episode are fantastic.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Thaw (2022)
Amazing Episode
This episode had everything, emotion, stakes, great animation, great music, great character development and great plot developments. This episode obviously isn't as good as the last 3 but I'm not rating it relative to those, as that was quite possibly the best 3 Episode stretch in the history of TV. This episode was fantastic and gut wrenching at times as well.
Shingeki no Kyojin: From You, 2000 Years Ago (2022)
Perfect Episode
This is one of the best episodes of the series, if not the best. I've been saying this for the last 3 weeks about every new episode though. Attack on Titan is a masterpiece and this episode reveals the plan of its best character in an extremely satisfying way. The backstory was also handled extremely well. Music, animation and voice acting are all stellar, as is the plot.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Memories of the Future (2022)
The Best Episode in Anime
This episode has the best twist in anime. The intensity of this scene was crazy and it was enhanced by stellar music and animation. Eren Yeager is the best fictional protagonist and he only gets better going forward. Grisha and Zeke are also incredible characters.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Two Brothers (2022)
The Best Episode of AOT so Far
War for Paradis is the best arc in anime and manga and this is where it truly picks up steam, despite already having 2 fantastic episodes. This episode was immaculate. The animation and music added so much. The characters converging in this moment is so fascinating and the battle of ideas between 2 certain characters is part of what makes this series a masterpiece.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Sneak Attack (2022)
Epic and Emotional
This episode had some of the best animation out of any episode we've seen in Attack on Titan. Certain characters that's were focused on also had very emotional scenes. Attack on Titan has the strongest cast in Anime, Manga and maybe even all of fiction. The music and scope of this episode was epic and the stakes were set extremely high for what will be a stretch of some of the best episodes in Television. This series is a Masterpiece.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Judgment (2022)
Fantastic Start to Part 2
With the beginning of the end for possibly the greatest story in fiction, this set the tone perfectly. There was a great mix of action and impactful dialogue. The ambiguity around Eren's character makes this episode unique. We see his will to fight being shown, yet unless you read the manga, you don't know his motives. The way they're foreshadowing future events is great. They're making the decisions of characters hold a lot of weight which makes every line of dialogue important.
Rick and Morty: A Rickconvenient Mort (2021)
Top Tier
One of the best episodes for Morty's character. This episode shows Morty trying to find meaning in his life once again which is a stark contrast to Summer who is becoming more like Rick. The slow character development pays off in episodes like this.
Shingeki no Kyojin: OVA: Lost Girls: Lost in the Cruel World (2018)
The Best OVA in Anime
This OVA provides so much foreshadowing and insight into Mikasa Ackerman as a character, as well as the curse that is her love for Eren Yeager, even in a world where cruelty doesn't happen to her, she can't save Eren. The idea that the Mirror Man is a reflection of her future self trying to provide Mikasa with the strength to move on is very significant, given what we learn near the end of the manga in chapter 138, which is one of the best chapters in Attack on Titan, just like this is the best OVA in Attack on Titan, and I'd argue all of anime.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Above and Below (2021)
Perfect Cliffhanger
This episode felt like a western film. The tension felt so high that even the most minor moves could result in conflict. The beginning of the episode was also very important and I'm glad they were even more vague than the manga, likely anime only viewers time to speculate on who the girl is and what Zeke's status will be. The ending of this episode was insane with gorgeous animation and an amazing soundtrack. As a manga reader, this next season is worth the wait 10 fold from whatever you expect. I'm assuming 5 or 6 of my top 10 episodes will be in Part 2.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Sole Salvation (2021)
Better than the Manga
The emotion of Zeke's backstory and the situation he was put in were incredible sad. The voice acting was top tier for Ksaver, Dina, Grisha and Zeke. The end of the episode was even more intense than the manga and the episode as a whole was perfect. All this on top of the scene with Eren that I forgot was in the manga this early, and you have one of the best AOT Episodes.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Savagery (2021)
Arguably the Best Episode Yet
2 of the best scenes in the series were in this episode. This gave us insight into the Eren and his elaborate plan to keep his friend's safe by pushing them away. We also saw what probably was the best fight in Attack on Titan until S4 Part 2 is released.
Dokutâ Sutôn: Humanity's Strongest Tag Team (2021)
The Peak of Dr. Stone
This was the best episode in the series without a doubt. The ideologies finally clashing in a way that had stakes and drama was executed perfectly in this episode. The dichotomy between Tsukasa, Hyoga and Senku was fantastic and this was a fight worth waiting for.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts (2021)
The Second Best Episode of Re:Zero
This Episode has for sure been the highlight of the second half of season 2. In my opinion only Episode 11 of Season 2 is better. The focus on the mansion battle as well as the intimate moments between the characters there were executed perfectly. Emilia's third trial was horrifying and the scene with the Witch of Wrath was amazing, this all was met with dread when she stepped out of the trial though. I also think Roswaal's battle with Ram was fantastic, especially the end of it.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Children of the Forest (2021)
One of the Most Raw Moments of the Series
The intensity of the voice acting in this episode matched the emotion presented through the characters perfectly. This episode was a fantastic adaptation of Chapter 111 and 112. All of the reveals with insane and the character development for Gabi was some of the best we've seen from any character in the series.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Guides (2021)
Amping up the Tension
This Episode finally began the start of the War for Paradis Island, with the defection of the Yeagerist Faction. Having foresight due to the manga, this episode sets the tone perfectly going forward and does a great job increasing stakes as well as defining the motivation of the characters.
