The Vince Staples Show (2024)
Awesome show
The show is hilarious and believable, given Vince Staples's life story. It's a must-watch; its inspiration echoes Glover's show Atlanta, but this is for L. A.
I wholeheartedly hope this show gets renewed, as Vince is a very grounded entertainer in an age of digital and plastic facades.
The script is superb, and all the actors bring A* performances in each episode. Vince is Vince and each episode is compelling and amusing.
This type of show does outline there is a gap in the market for shows centred on black experiences submerged in humourous satire; if anything else it can aid in bridging cultural gaps and form understanding and appreciation that transcends audience demographics.
Take a bow, Mr. Staples.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Mediocre
The pacing of the entire movie is disjointed. As per previous reviews it feels rushed.
The multiple protagonist's character arcs are nonexistent. Due to this, there is no incentive for the audience to care or relate to the characters' plights on screen.
Freddie is ok, but the antagonist's motivations don't make sense. There is a massive plot hole regarding magic and the Wizard's imprisonment.
Overall the movie doesn't build on the solid foundation of its predecessor. It's pretty soulless, with an inadequate story relying on comedy and special effects to pull it through to a laborious ending.
I wish there were consistency in the adult and child actor's portrayal of Billy Batson. There are apparent differences in how they approach the character; I find the young person's rendition more believable.
In conclusion, this film is mediocre and a snooze fest at worst.
Welcome to Wrexham (2022)
I love the show and now support Wrexham!
I'm a life long West Ham fan. However, as I love Ryan and Matt and everything they do I gave the show a watch, now I'm hucked! I have a friend from Wrexham and because of him and the show I now love the club! Beautiful documentary, the Town has real heart and the show has genuine soul.
Every Footy fan should give this show a watch. It's paced very well and the stories are genuinely human. Very few football documentaries make me cry but this one did after episode 2. Everything magical about being a football fan is captured within this show.
I even started a Football Manager save with Wrexham as I now loves the club. In short, watch it!
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Great Show so Far
As someone who has read Robert Jordans Wheel of Time book series. I can say this is a solid adaptation so far.
Yes, some creative freedom was exercised by Amazon producers adding or subtracting minor characters and rushing certain story beats. But, as Season 1 is only 8 episodes long, that doesn't surprise me.
However, the show has captured the tone and feel of the first book very well. The acting is mostly solid, (though I feel Madeleine Madden was miscast, she doesn't encapsulate Egwene for me), the story is fantastic but is a slow burner. General viewers need to realise this show is set on the foundations of a14+ book series, so there is a lot of lore and world building within the show; this can be interpreted at times as small bits of info dump dialogue or come across "boring" to those unfamiliar with Jordans work. Nevertheless, for the most part it's a fantastic show.
For those being negative about the show, labelling the story boring....have you written 14+ global bestselling novels lately? I think not.😆 Brandon Sanderson is Creative Consultant for the entire show, so rest assured as the author who finished Jordans legacy and is global bestselling author in his own right, the shows in good hands.
In addition to those harking on that the WOT show is a political statement due to...diversity? Just stop, It's not, not in the slightest! 🤣 The cast members who are of colour deserve to be there. Zoe Robbins Is exceptional as Nynaeve.
I think the casting department should be applauded overall, especially when it comes to Rand, Moiraine, Matt and Nynaeve.
The Wheel weaves as the wheel wills.
Watch it.
