Tiger 3 (2023)
Watchable ,all and all SK show
When Salman Khan collaborated with YRF ,in general ,the product is good. Tiger 3 brings that oomph factor which Salman Khan has been lacking in average productions in the recent past . The storyline is quite predictable as is the case in each of the Tiger movies so far . However the production is quite slick with good performances by Salman , Katrina and Emraan Hashmi . Salman has a superb screen presence and steals the show . SRK teaming up with SK was not necessary or required , still it looks good on screen . A good watch on the whole. The story is average but the movie has good production values .
Gehraiyaan (2022)
Riveting watch but lengthy
There are a very few movies which can make you glued to the screen for majority of the time , specifically on ott platforms . This one is real good in terms of performances ,character development , cinematography , background music and songs . Though it could have been to make the running length a bit shorter than 148 minutes by editing out unnecessary stuff ,still it's a riveting watch about "love" essentially and lays bare the notion of "love" in today's world of give and take . I felt Siddhant Chaturvedi's character was a bit too over dramatic when it gets down to absurd levels in attempted murder , otherwise he really did well to embrace his part . Deepika has been gold in the movie and Naseer nailed it in a brief ,yet great performance. The director had a particular vision and mostly he stuck to it and reached out to those who could understand his pov , this is purely an ott play and movie would not have done that well in theatres . In fact ,had it not been an ott platform backed production , perhaps couldn't have been made at all . I liked what I saw ,except for the few irrational stuff right at the end . Nonetheless overall one of the best movies to come out this year.
Life of Pi (2012)
And the story of Pi seems irrational but is logical to the core !
The symbolism of PI a mathematical annotation to irrational numbers has perhaps not been captured so beautifully ever in cinema !! Those who know India and have had the experience of spending even a few days in this enigma of a country know how confusing yet subtly philosophic this country is ...and this is exactly what the cinematic masterpiece from Ang Lee portrays ......To discover who you really are , you need to be thrown in a situation which tests your limits and then "wisdom" will be given to thee. I have not read the novel so i did not actually know what its all about when I walked into the theater and was pleasantly surprised at so many insinuations & portrayals of the Indian way of thinking of universal brotherhood. Ang Lee keeps the things in a different realm of reality which we all acknowledge does exist but perhaps are afraid to "test the waters" since we as human beings are conformists by nature and can not leave our "comfort zone" to think things in a way they should be thought of .......this is exactly why the director succeeds in drawing our attention to small but significant things which need to be understood to make the path more worthy of further discovery......Truly world class cinema with great acting and I will not hesitate in adding that the "tiger" who plays Richard Parker does deserve an Oscar this season .........
Ramayan (1987)
Its not about Religion but about moral values
I saw this series in my childhood and could associate myself only from the religious point of view . Now that I am aware of a little bit working of this world , when I am watching this series again on DVD , I can understand why Ramayana as a epic is so relevant in modern times . It gives a message of love, peace , harmony and dutifulness with the right dose of righteousness in all our actions . The narrative is simple and the characters very true to life .Most of us in India at least understand religion as a sacred duty and not in day to day affairs of life , which ideally it should be. This series , had for the first time explained , with warmth the importance and fun to be righteous and humble in every sphere of daily life . Whoever wishes to improve his life a little more must see and understand from Ramayana.
Source Code (2011)
A different thriller !!
I won't be compelled to put this feature in the league of "Inception" , however the storyline is quite gripping , the characters are believable and the screenplay is brilliant. the "8 minute" theory of something related to the human memory after death though keeps the narrative going , is a little bit difficult to digest, but then this is what sci-fi cinema is all about ...."unbelievably believable " Thoroughly enjoyed it in the theaters..The introduction sequence (which by the way is repeated for 5 times) repetition is handled very well to bring out small nuances in developing the story. At some places though ....the length of the film seems to drag a bit and at one point of time (about 10 minutes from the end)the film appeared to have ended ...so a little bit of confusion there...
