The Dead Don't Hurt (2023)
Viggo stay in acting
Viggo please you are such a great actor. Stay there and let writers write a story and directors direct it.
Very slow, boring with a lot of back and forth in time to explain what is happening. I found it confusing in the beginning but then it started making sense. No tempo, no rhythm in the story and the direction.
A very irrational decision of Viggo, the main character, a decision that made no sense at all provided the fuel for the story. Even acting was not great.
One of the few plus of the film is its cinematography. There are some nice shots of the landscape that add to the atmosphere of the film.
Overall, it was painful to watch and I feel that I have lost 2 hours of my life!
Monkey Man (2024)
The Indian Kill Bill
It's entertaining for sure! The fighting scenes are good and acting is nice as well. Dev Patel made a nice debut as a director
The plot.is very weak to say the least. The more the story unfolds the more unbelievable it becomes. Now really, are we serious? The guy survived a shooting and a fall to the river handcuffed and then he was miraculously saved by the travesty nuns! And on the top of all he gets a super power and becomes the male Uma Therman and destroys an arm of men with the help of the travesty nuns again!
It had potential to become much better. Dev maybe next time stay behind or in front of the camera but please don't write another plot like that!
Dream Scenario (2023)
It's a film not only about the cancel culture but also about repressed emotions!
Nicolas Cage is great, although he is not one of my favourite actors, I loved how he acted in this film.
I agree that one of the main themes of the movie is the cancel culture but it wasn't only that. There was something deeper in the film that it wasn't explored deeply which would have made it to a masterpiece in my opinion. This is the topic of repressed emotions and how we live our lives!
Nicolas Cage paid a boring and dull university professor who has a big goal of writing a book in a subject that he knows well and feels passionate about but never took any action about it. He is craving for recognition but he is not doing something about it. He is begging a peer of him to mention him in her research and she said NO, you could have done something about it!! As a result, she took advantage of it, did the necessary research, published it and got the recognition.
When he starts appearing in people dreams he is just a passive observer as he is doing in his life. When he has a glimpse of flirt with his wife, a woman has vivid sexual dreams with him. He likes the fame and with his naivety he is trying to exploit it. When he reads an article about the recognition his peer received for the work that he should have done all these years, he is full of anger and rage.
That resulted to people having nightmares with him, as they are constantly assaulted, raped, killed in their dreams from him! They are terrorised and of course they will cancel him! When he lashes out his anger to a teacher and accidentally injure her then the dreams suddenly stop!
I didn't like the ending! It's like he had such a profound life experience and he didn't learn anything. He remained the same, a little man exploiting his fame in France and wishing his wife will accept him back! I am astonished that she kept staying in their marriage for 15 years. No reflection for him, no development at all!
Licorice Pizza (2021)
Nostalgic, romantic film
One of my best movies this year. I loved the 70s atmosphere, both of the protagonists played amazingly well! I couldn't believe that this was their first performance, lot of talent for both.
It's a romantic film for the love between a 25 years old woman and a 15 years old kid. It was portrayed with sensitivity and innocence. An euphoric film that makes you feel good without pushing emotions.
Highly recommended!
Burning Cane (2019)
Tragic
Where shall I start? The storyline, the editing, the acting, the cinematography was poor. A dull and boring film that I wouldn't recommend unless you are so bored from life and you want to kill your time!
Game Night (2018)
Boring & Uninspiring
I had high hopes before seeing the film but unfortunately it was below my expectations. Maybe it's me and my friends that we have a bad taste in movies but believe me a fine Saturday night was destroyed. Almost 2 hours lost of my life! What a pity!
The film was promising in the beginning but the storyline was so bad and fake. The characters were stupid and I couldn't resonate with them to find them funny. Of course there were some funny moments e.g. the scene with the dog but in total the outcome was not funny.
