Gôruden suranbâ (2010)
Pure cinematic experience
Aoyagi (Masato Sakai) is mistaken for a murderer and on the run from the cops. At first glance one would think it to be a simple suspense film, but that's not the case. Each character has a deeper motive. Carefree, open-hearted, soft-spoken, each character seems to have some sort of reliance and trust in Aoyagi.A married couple with child get into an elevator, standing alongside a suspicious hooded man. The elevator descends, and a long take follows them as they walk through the department store. Suddenly, the child disappears. In this moment the film has us nervously thinking, "Something bad must have happened."
With this powerful moment I'd recommend the film. Every scene in the film feels like a pure cinematic experience: when the company owner says to Aoyagi, "i know You aren't the criminal;" when we cut to the scenery outside the car in motion; when the child of the wanted criminal dies. Even normal scenes were certainly shot with meaning. The cooperation of Sendai City during the filming has a positive effect on the movie's quality. Extras who appear in the film for just a few seconds stand with consideration for their own significance, in turn blessed by a splendid film.
As soundly escapist entertainment, it's a shame the film hasn't been screened overseas since its debut in 2010.
This kind of amusing film is an example for what Japanese cinema is all about.
Furasshubakku memorîzu 3D (2012)
Epoch-making in film history.
I'm honestly telling you i really really recommend watching "Flashback memories" that new documentary film by Tetsuaki Matsue, that is screening in Japan now.
I think almost reviewer will explain about what's the story and the film won best audience at Tokyo International Film Festival on 2012.it's perfectly true. but none of them doesn't explain why? why the films is attracting to us? i have to explain why that's my job.
It has two elements. First, how to use 3D. As you know, 3D particularity is we can express distance between front and behind in deeply. Or such like 3D attraction in Universal Studio. but Matue is offering definitely new type of using 3D that's describing together present and past in "same scene". I mean, screening GOMA's memory(past) behind him who is playing Didgeridoo with his band(present). Why it's new? we have to back to how to make film. Basically, all film consists of past, present and future time. For example, we saw someone worries about something in the movie. In this case, director insert the past scene, that what happened to them in the past for explaining their situation. I mean, Director describes their background. Basically these scene are completely independent, never occur in same scene. That's why new type 3D movie we never seen. it's epoch-making in film history. But is this effective in the film? Looking back to his filmography, he is looking for the answer what's the film, what's the documentary through the experience of making film. I know some director having ambition in independent film industry in Japan such like Tuchiya Yutaka, that recent films is GFP Bunny.
But he has not only ambition. What's the difference of between them is Matsue has super respect to film history. This respect leads to new way of using 3D. If he doesn't respect it, the idea never born in the world. Anyway What's the respect to film? We have to back to silent film. Specific way making a film is shooting acting, shooting actor, that is "seeing human". We can't make a great film without understanding human. I can say simple words, "what's the film is describing human." Looking back to flashback memories, Director Matue and starring GOMA who has good relationship since before shooting. Story is simple. One day GOMA who is Didgeridoo performer lost memory because of car accident that resulted in brain injury. At the moment, he lost even memory of what's the Diguridoo ..he believes strongly that "please God! Don't make my memory lose! Please!" He struggle to recall memory with helping family and colleague now. How can we describe his life with making a film? Can we make fiction- documentary style? Probably, that's part of success style. But the style doesn't explain exactly "he may not remember things happened few minutes ago.""moment is precious thing for GOMA"
Past thing that before car accident happen, Present thing that GOMA is playing lovely Diguridoo with his band(they are called GOMA & The Jungle Rhythum Section), Future thing that after a second,
What the most important thing for GOMA is "moment!" GOMA may be lost the moment that is playing with his band now. Layer of 3D style that's describing past and present in same scene is most effective way for describing GOMA's life. I think Flashback memories 3D style will be used next fiction films director.Really Epoch-making film.
you have to watch films of Tetsuaki Matsue from Japan.
Momoiro sora o (2011)
Definitely worth watching around the world.
What is it about About the Pink Sky that attracts me?
About the Pink Sky has everything that's important in an entertainment film: proper development of new and original characters. Izumi, a high school girl who reviews newspaper articles, has the quality of those teenagers in films like Shunji Iwai's Hana to Alice or Typhoon Club by Shinji Somai. I was engaged by the character. Some would say the story is mundane; no fascinating events happen in the film. However, in this film the story is not so important—nor is black and white. New character is what's necessary, such as in John Ford's films, where peculiarity creates character.
The film succeeds with its portrayal of the teenager. Family and teachers disappear, similar to Iwai and Somai's style. The story begins when Izumi finds a wallet with 300,000 yen inside on the road. She decides not to return it. She lends money to an acquaintance, then spends more for her friends in a cafe. One day, her friend Akemi notes that the wallet's owner, Sato, is actually a cool guy, so she is obligated to return the wallet as soon as possible. Her purpose is then to see Sato. Izumi is now involved with her friend and Sato.
About the Pink Sky indulges into the insight of a Japanese director. He destroys stereotypes with fascinating characters. For example, why do Japanese ask "How old are you?" for the first time? To understand "your position:" if you're 28 years old, you're a salesman, not a university student. In other words, assumptions are important. You listen carefully to what Izumi says, and then you have to listen carefully for the answer. Izumi brings hope for future directors in Japan. There are some other hopefuls presently. Keichi also tries to destroy stereotypes through new characters. This is through a style of entertainment that doesn't use force.
Why are we impressed by Jaws, Back to the Future, or Batman? What did we get from those films? They all have a dark present and hopeful future. About the Pink Sky is the same. I'm excited to see the truth of entertainment films appearing in Japan.
Rurôni Kenshin: Meiji kenkaku romantan (2012)
This is not "Film"
Movie of "Ruroni kensin" is completely made for watching on TV except action scene and last 15 minutes. This is not "movie".if you watch it on TV, you'll be really satisfied. if on theater, you'll not be satisfied .Biggest reason is director can't shoot efficiently simple scene which is just talking each other.Recent Japanese movie is also like that. so i'm feeling boring eveytimes. We need more tension!! You can imagine that if you met with one parson for the first time at somewhere, you have a little bit tension, expectation or other feeling. then, the more meeting with the person, the more changing your feeling like dislike or love....our job is to shoot his/her acting (feeling) using camera, that's it! !in other words, our job is to shoot "communication". Very simple job, but, i know "simple is very difficult".
Although i'm a little disappointed, worth to watch. Two reasons. one is directer of Ohtomo has original shooting style in action scene.second, Takeru Sato who is acting Kensin has unconscious eye we're fascinated.he is really good acting because Kenshin is wondering.
Manga is very popular around the world now. so many people is reading it and expecting movie.we must do the best not to disappoint to them.
