Definitely Watchable but not as good as t.o.j.
lewischasen4 May 2024
So for the good, the visuals are done well. There are new aliens and certain elements flow well, made some decent connections and ended a question of one empirial operative.

As for the bad, some returning characters were visually revamped which I found unnecessary. A chunk of what I watched left me failing to see the characters logic and connection from pre and post empire. I get the idea but the character came off hypocritical to me. It doesn't have to be a hard negative but it would be if this is where the trail ends.

Neutral, the final episode had me wondering if it's intended to be continued or if that was it. If it is good, if not well what happens next?

Overall I found it watchable and others may enjoy it more or less than I did. There's good about it but plot wise and doesn't have the same connection or feeling of how a character got to the point they were at in other shows, like tales of a jedi did.

A Good Show on Lesser Characters
alindsayal4 May 2024
It happens every year and we have finally reached May 4th aka Star Wars Day and Disney decided today to release the follow up to the successful Tales of the Jedi with a new show Star Wars Tales of the Empire and I have watched it this morning and this is my review of the show. The premise of the show documents the journey's of Morgan Elsbeth & Barriss Offee and how their lives were affected by different events.

Main Character The first 3 episodes of the show documents the journey of Morgan Elsbeth with Diana Lee Inosanto reprising her role from The Mandalorian & Ahsoka and she is great. It shows how she became the character that we met in those shows. She does a really effective job of showing the anger and the devotion that she has to her new mission, her character was great in live action and it continues here.

The latter 3 episodes focus on Barriss Offee who is once again voiced by Meredith Salenger. The show picks up after she was expelled from the Jedi Order in The Clone Wars. Salenger does a good job, we still see the inner turmoil of her character and that even though she was against the Jedi, she might not be fully on board with the Empire and it is just nice to get some follow up on her which people have been asking for years.

Supporting Characters To be honest this show is all about the two main characters and doesn't have too much time for the rest of the cast but everyone does a good job. Probably the main one is The Fourth Sister who has a good story with Barriss and gives some more character to this pretty dull character so that was good to see.

It was also nice to see cameos from characters from the Star Wars universe such as General Grievous, Thrawn & The Grand Inquisitor. They all offer something to the stories and it was just nice to see them make a return here.

Story The stories are good. Seeing how Morgan Elsbeth went from surviving on Dathomir to become a Magistrate is well realised and it does set up future events in Ahsoka which is appreciated. I also enjoyed seeing Barriss journey to becoming an Inquisitor and how it showed her different viewpoints of the galaxy. But, there is no doubt that there is something missing here, it just isn't as interesting as I wanted it to be. Morgan's story doesn't do enough to tell us more stuff about her, it probably would have come across better if we had seen it before Ahsoka was released and we knew what happened to her. Barriss story does feel a little bit like missed potential and I think maybe they could have had 6 episodes just on that and it would have been better and the ending is incredibly abrupt and doesn't quite work like I think Disney thought it would.

Script The script is okay, this show is incredibly mature and dark and that does work and I am glad that this show goes with that tone and the lack of humour isn't an issue. The issue is that none of the drama really nails the mark fully, similar to the story I think Disney expected more and it just fell a bit flat at crucial times.

Style The animation looks fantastic. We have seen with other animated Star Wars shows that the animation has got better and better and this is up there with the best yet. The character models look fantastic and the action flows incredibly well and feels very smooth. But the pacing is where the issue is, with us only having 3 episodes each with these lesser known characters, plenty is left out and it feels a bit janky especially with Morgan Elsbeth which made it hard to really get invested in it.

Overall Overall, Star Wars: Tales of The Empire is a good show that has some merit to it and will entertain fans of the franchise. But it doesn't hit the landing as much as it should and feels like a slight let down in that way but it is still a decent watch.

Rating - 7/10.

Doesn't Add Much
imperialwalkrnyr4 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Found myself asking - do we really need this? Morgan is not a very redeeming character & did not love seeing her be the new inception of the Tie-Defender program.

The Barriss story was a bit better - but was really hoping to get more of the Inquisitors; their training and plights - rather than a redemption arc.

I know this will be polarizing but also didn't need the pronoun thing being snuck into a potentially kids cartoon. But that's neither here nor there in my rating - Just something some parents might want to be aware of.

Was nice to have something for May the 4th but found myself wishing I rewatched Tales of the Jedi instead.

Pretty Average
adambell-218725 May 2024
Your perception of the show may differ quite drastically from others depending on how much you care about the characters that the show focuses on. Personally, I do not care much for Morgan Elsbeth as she doesn't really come off as an interesting character so I found the first 3 episodes to be relatively average, nothing insulting by any means but nothing that exciting either. The episodes focusing on Bariss Offee were more interesting to me as I like her more as a character but they weren't anything special. Overall there's a lot more they could've done with the show, but if you are interested in those characters then it might be worth a watch for you. Do not expect anything ground-breaking though.

Would have been 9 if it hadn't been for... you know...
Konsul_K13 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoyed this show, for the very most part.

Side characters are explored, enriching the SW universe. The story is well told. It is well done. It is well paced. The scope is neither small nor big, but focused. The techniques are good, camera and lighting and art direction and score and all the other machinations of cinematic story telling that an audience usually will not notice.

It made me feel stuff. I felt the anger, frustration, and fear. Tales Of The Empire works.

And then there is episode 5: A gender politic (singular?) out of the blue. It yanked me right out of A Galaxy Far, Far Away and into the undesireable present.

And I already feel the pressure, the need to explain myself: So, two years ago I met a person - first for me - who wanted to be addressed as they/them, and I was surprised: It didn't bother me at all. For one: Name and identity - behaviours, habitus - is anybody's choice: If I want to be addressed as "cactus", I have the right to want that. And very actual: I quite instantly realized that above mentioned person was plagued hard with psychological problems, and I thought, boy, if this is your way out, or at least some kind of help, I would be a terrible, terrible person to make it a problem. (I also think that a portion of people struggling with their social-biological identity, thanks to the media, fall for the "gender maelstrom" as a remedy (also thanks to the media), and I think that this sets them on a distracting course, and a caring therapist would be galaxies better...) What a digress.

What I do not appreciate: Disney is very consciously sabotaging my escapism. Star Wars, to me, is holy. It is a fairy tale. I don't want trade disputes in it. I don't want racial stereotypes (Ep. I, anyone?). I don't want Tatooine engineers talking about the hairyness of Jawas. I don't want conservationists joining the Rebel Alliance because the Empire uses plastics in their armor. I want to be swept away and I do not want to be hit in the face with what is trending. I also think that this is exactly what is fueling the burning divide, and that it is a huge disservice to the people struggling with these issues.

Closing thought: Me, I am a fat dude - where is my representation, where is the one fat side character Jedi? Kidding. I don't want fat Jedis. Please.

Morgan's story was eh; Barris' story was the main dish
Uzer_error4045 May 2024
Honestly, who cares about Morgan Elsbeth.

A one off character of the MANDALORIAN who became a mainstay in AHSOKA, but even then she wasn't all that interesting. Not sure why TOTE wanted to showcase her backstory when we already know it.

The issue with Morgan's three episode arc is that it doesn't tell us anything new about her and it doesn't make any sense.

Morgan states to Thrawn that she "seeks revenge," but revenge against who?? Grievous is dead, Dooku is dead, the CIS has been defeated-everyone responsible for the destruction of her people are dead. Sooo...what vengeance is she seeking? Morgan just becomes some corrupt bureaucrat for the imperials who basically turns a random village into a hard labor camp, but why though? Why is she going out her way to mistreat these people? We don't know. She just winds up running a pyramid scheme and then murders anyone who challenges it, and again, it's never understood why she's doing any of it outside of be generic "I want power," which isn't a goal Morgan states. Again, she's somehow doing this to "get revenge," one day against people who are already dead.

So in the end, we wind up learning nothing new about Morgan and her episodes were largely a waste of time.

I just stuck around for Barris, because we get to see what happened to her post RoTS. Barris' story does what Morgan's should had, which is sbowing us things we don't know, and exploring the depth of Barris herself. It was great seeing the Fourth Sister since we didn't get anything from her out of KENOBI. I won't go into detail about Barris' story because I'd be spoiling, but I do feel that it was better handled than Morgan's.

Another fine addition to the Star Wars Galaxy!
moritzherz4 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Tales of the empire fails to surpass the Tales of the Jedi but nevertheless enrichens this already loaded franchise with a few new gems.

The first three episodes focus on Morgan Elsbeths journey, starting with the purge on Dathoomir. The nightsisters get eliminated by General Grievous, Morgan Elsbeth is one of the few survivors. This event is known from the clone wars and it was great to revisit it.

Morgan Elsbeth, thrived by revenge, brings destruction to the mountain clan, that was so kind to give her shelter.

We next see her presenting the plans for the TIE-Defender systems to imperial officers. Admiral Yularen is interested and connects her with Admiral Thrawn. So this is how they met.

In the third part we see her after the fall of the empire, slaughtering an ambassador of the New Republic, who wanted to bring peace to her planet Corvis. This episode should play right before the events of The Mandalorian season 2, in which Ahsoka and The Mandalorian arrive on the planet.

All in all an very entertaining arc, that finally gives her some character. However the ultimate banger it was not.

Moving on to the second story arc featuring Barris Offee during Order 66. She is currently imprisoned as she was sentenced to after her betrayal on the Jedi Order in The Clone Wars.

However the empire offers her to become an inquisitor which she kindly accepts. The grand inquisitor tests her personally and she proves herself worthy by killing her old jedi-colleague contender. She now is an inquisitor and the dark lord himself arrives at the Fortress Inquisitorious to oversee his new tools.

After that we see her on her first mission which is to hunt down a jedi with her sister. Barriss uses her jedi-training to get the information from a child so nobody has to be hatmed. But her inquisitor sister has another plan and so she kills all of the villagers to make an example.

This is when Barriss realises her fault to join the empire and so she turns on her sister to protect the jedi.

The third episode shows Barriss after some years have gone by. She is now a healer and helps people in need. Just like a jedi. One day her sister finds her on the hunt for a force sensitive child. Barriss makes sure the child and his family escape and trap her sister in an ice cave. The sister is furious and in her anger she kills Barriss. This is when she realises that her path only causes sorrow and destruction.

In my opinion this story arc is the better one of the both. However it is still not flawless, especially the third episode ends a bit abrupt. I guess Barriss is dead, which makes sense, because we do not see her in any show or movie after these events. Still I am glad they finished her story which was open since The Clone Wars season five.

As a versict to this 6-part mini-series I would say that it does its job. Tales of the empire is a satisfying addition to the Star Wars universe. The animation looks great, the soundtrack by Kevin Kiner is superb as always and the stories help the viewer understand certain character developments that happened in other shows before.

Please give us more of this, maybe in for of a Tales of the Sith or Tales of the Rebellion. There is always somwthing to tell in the Star Wars Universe!

May the 4th be with you!

A journey to the dark side
DLochner4 May 2024
The Evil at the Center. Just as we once accompanied Anakin Skywalker on his journey to the dark side, there are now finally two more characters we get to accompany into the abyss.

The approach of the Star Wars creators is emotional and profound. The atmosphere is truly dark, rarely seen except in Andor. Now, we are actually on the side of evil. Whether Morgan Elsbeth, seemingly a supporting character, needed to be chosen as the main character remains questionable. There are certainly much more intriguing characters in the Star Wars universe. But in the end, after the story of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader, we witness another transformation into evil. And it is precisely this that makes this series so compelling in the otherwise rather cheerful Star Wars cosmos.

The most intriguing question in all of this is ultimately why they had to make the whole thing an animated series.

It's good, but it could have been better
leonardooliva-1613512 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Following the line of Tales of the Jedi this time we have the dark side version of the story.

3 chapters for 2 characters that, although not as impressive as their predecessor, are still interesting.

On the one hand Morgan Elsbeth who we saw in Mandalorian and in Ashoka where we are given a glimpse into her personal past during the prequel trilogy and the death of the witches of Dathomir where she takes her path towards hatred and destruction. After her first contact with the Galactic Empire with Admiral (at that time) Thrawn who took her into his ranks seeing her potential. And finally, after the imperial fall, contact with the new Republic and the subsequent massacre. It is a plot line that, although not the most interesting in the canon, gives us a glimpse of this character who will no longer appear seen anymore and considering his end in Ashoka.

On the other hand, the story of Barriss Offee after the events of Clone Wars and her first contact with the Inquisitors. Watching from prison the execution of Order 66 and his subsequent training under the command of Darth Vader. It's nice to see how this character can partially redeem himself after the crimes he committed and his ending leaves us wondering if he really dies or not. I suppose it will give way to new stories in relation to her.

Animation and Star Wars are really closely linked and I only hope that this trend continues for future projects.

Not as mind blowing as Tales of the Jedi but still solid
starwarsman1074 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Slightly disappointed we didn't get as much of certain things but still consider myself satisfied. Especially satisfied with the conclusion(?) of Barriss Offee's story which we've been waiting to see since she disappeared from Star Wars after season 5 of the Clone Wars. Some might not like it but I thought satisfactory. Morgan Elsbeth's story is pretty good as well and nice to see Thrawn again this time in Clone Wars animation style (and looking more like his actor Lars Mikelson). Great seeing General Grievous and the further aftermath of the genocide of the Nightsister clan and how it set Elsbeth on her path to becoming an ally of Thrawn and the Empire. In all it's not the best Star Wars ever but I consider it solid (more so than other Disney era projects like the Acolyte).

May the 4th with you.
awsafzidane4 May 2024
A decent animated short series in the same vein as Tales of The Jedi last year. I prefer Jedi slightly over this just because of Dooku's storyline.

The Morgan plot was a bit underwhelming. And I don't think she deserved an arc to herself. The ending wasn't that good too.

The Barriss storyline was much better, especially the first 2 episodes which were dark, and broody, and got the aesthetics right. Even though I was left a bit disappointed with the conclusion of her arc. I like a redemption arc, but not sure if she deserved one.

Now hoping for Tales of The Sith next year on Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you.

Star Wars at its darkest
masonsaul4 May 2024
Like Tales of the Jedi before it, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire is a story of two halves where one is noticeably stronger than the other. The added edge here is this show being completely unafraid to go to some really dark territory. Star Wars hasn't been this dark since Revenge of the Sith and just like that film, hope is still present deep down.

Diana Lee Inosanto's Morgan Elsbeth and Meredith Salenger's Barriss Offee were thinly sketched characters but thanks to just 30 minutes of screen time for each of them they've got so much more depth and both actors are given a lot to work with. Diana Lee charts a strong course through the journey of the dark side and Meredith Salenger brings a wise presence to the redemption of Barriss.

The Clone Wars animation style only gets better with every new show that uses it. The level of detail in the environments is incredible and the character designs at this stage have none of the stilted nature that the show started off with. Kevin Kiner's score is amazing with a more mournful quality as the show spends almost all of its time in the bleakest parts of the Star Wars timeline.

Another Dave Filoni anthology series
nscoby937 May 2024
I am very excited to see Dave Filoni do another anthology series like Tales of the Jedi only this time from the perspective of the bad a** empire!

Unfortunately, this series doesn't quite live up to Tales of the Jedi...

While it is well made and tells interesting stories as well as making interesting connections to other Star Wars shows. The stories being told just aren't as strong.

I found the second half of this 6 episode season far more enjoyable as it covers the time Barriss Offee was imprisoned and her short time as a Sith Inquistor. Her arch was well done and felt of classic Star Wars.

Then, the first half of the season while solid just wasn't as good as the latter half. Though, to be honest, that could be due to the fact I remembered very little of the character Morgan Elsbeth, who I guess was in The Mandalorian S2 and Ahsoka. But she was a character I didn't care all that much for.

Irregardless, while this was not as good as Tales of the Jedi, it was still an overall enjoyable watch. I look forward to what Dave Filoni will do next.

IMDb: 7/10 Letterboxd: 3/5

Watched on Disney+ in 4k Dolby Vision.

Pretty disappointing
Movie-goer60004 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Was intrigued to see more of Morgan and Barris to flesh their characters out and the questions that have been raised. That really only happened for Barris and even then that was brief. Morgan's episodes were just so unnecessary, there was absolutely no additional information learnt and no real substance other than Cameos (though I guess we do see how she met Thrawn). We already knew she was a night sister, was the magistrate on Corvus and was working with the empire. We just have further questions of how did she get to Corvus and become the magistrate, when and how did she become a ship designer as it doesn't seem like the natural path of a night sister. How'd she get off dathomir and reconnect back with the sisterhood.

I call into question the length of these stories as there's just not enough time to actually dive satisfyingly deep, though then again with what little time they had it looked like they really didn't have much further story to tell anyway, why not use a character you do want to expand on.

Barris's arc was more enjoyable, we got the answer of what happened to her post order 66, once again I would have liked to know more but these are very short episodes, but it was compelling enough. Good to see her not succumb to the dark side and walk a different path.

These quick character arcs I don't feel fit lesser known characters, with tales of the Jedi it felt like episodes answering a number of questions quickly for two main characters. Nice and satisfying. Tales of the empire however was one quickly rushed origin story with no substance and one question answered for a side character.

Voice acting A+, visuals and music A+

Once again, the toxic fans rear their ugly heads...
mhorg20185 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As usual with anything these days, the toxic fans simply have to be heard. Well, whoever reads this can ignore that. This is an honest review. Two characters highlight this, Elspeth Morgan (first seen in THE MANDALORIAN) who we see now (as we heard) is from Dathomir. And Barriss Offee, fallen Jedi, last seen in The Clone Wars, where she framed Ashoka (who left the order after not being trusted by the coucil) for a bomb. While the episodes here are interesting, they weren't as well done as Tales of the Jedi. The stories were a little quick and I didn't learn enough about the characters. I also think Barris got off a little easy in the end, considering she betrayed the order (who truly sowed the seeds of their own downfall by sticking to dogma and not listening or paying attention to the world around them. I guess the one thousand years of peace kind of made them too comfortable.) But in the end, it was enjoyable and I'd like to see Tales of the Rebellion next. Or tales of the Bounty Hunters... or Tales of the Knights of the Republic...

Six short episodes showing two women's involvement with The Dark Side
Tweekums19 May 2024
Like the previous 'Tales of the Jedi' this series consists of six fairly short episodes.

The first three show us how Morgan Elspeth, the sole survivor when the Droid Army attacked her people, the Night Sisters, gradually moves to the dark side. This is shown in three time periods, the first episode is during the separatists' revolt against the Republic; the second is during the age of the Empire and finally we see her as magistrate of Corvus; the roll she had when first introduced to viewers in 'The Mandalorian'.

The second three follow Barriss Offee, the former Jedi who was jailed for treason after betraying Ahsoka. After Order 66 and the rise of the Empire she is released to be trained as an Inquisitor and hunt surviving Jedi, a role she has growing doubts about.

I thought this was a solid little series that can easily by watched in a single sitting. The characters are minor compared to those depicted in 'Tales of the Jedi' but that didn't stop it being interesting. Each story had a solid character arc which differed nicely from each other. The animation is top notch and the voice cast does a great job bringing the characters to life. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to 'Star Wars' fans and hope we get more 'Star Wars Tales of...' in future.

Just ok. So many clichés.
Zharuss12 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Morgan: It was gorgeous once again to see General Grievous decimating the nightsisters but from another perspective, so much nostalgia but the arch itself was ok, not good but not bad, I liked seeing Rukh once again, didn't know he was still alive, the duel's coreography was epic but the ending was meh, as always the antagonist won but the protagonist found a 1% way to defeat him at the last breath. Dave Filoni still didn't learn that we want GoT/Andor realism and what was with the New Republic iq? Did they really think that they could beat Morgan's entire city watch with just 5 ppl? Didn't cross their minds to flee and call for backup? Come on... And to conclude the New Republic representative dying on the ground saying her last words, like I never saw this way of dying a hundred times!

Barris: 1º episode was great, seeing the Jedi temple burning from Barris' cell and the Grand Inquisitor introduction almost brought me shivers, wish we have his story if TotE gets a 2º season. 2º episosde was my personal favorite of the whole series, kinda predictable but still ejoyable, however the 3º episode... Appaling, I swear if I was watching alone I'd turn off the TV and watch another time, I hope Barris had a vision of the future before letting her acquaintance go after the family because it doesn't make any sense that she would let her do it, imagine if she gets there before they enter the maze? Force wielders are faster than ordinary beings and Barris letting herself being stabbed inside the maze? Absolute crap, I really thought "Barris saw this in a future vision and her acquaintance will heal her with the force and she will be brought to light once again so that's why she let herself being stabbed" welp... That didn't happen, the episode ended with her at the edge of her death and we don't know what happened because there was no conclusion.

Pretty solid overall
elliottkemp-5397113 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Kinda hard to describe this is one review but I'll do my best. I did like the backstory for the magistrate, but I didn't love how it was a character who was already in the mandolorian. Kinda felt a bit too much like fan service, but I didn't mind too much. I liked seeing the character develop, and her first episode is the best of her arc. Bariss's arc was probably better in my opinion, though given the atrocities she commits towards the end of the clone wars, I'm not sure how I feel about a redemption arc. I preferred her as a villain but the arc worked fairly well for what it was. She was deadnaming the one inquisitor though, that's not cool. Anyway her redemption felt like it could be a little unearned, but I still enjoyed seeing it happen, and old Bariss still worked for me. Overall solid, definitely one I recommend.

Entertaining but no that relevant
thePopcornExplorer5 May 2024
This one had a great potential, seeing the background of dark characters is always a treat since general rule it is about exploring their humanity and how they lost it at some point, with that being said I feel they could've explored many other characters rather than these two...

The animation is fantastic, the pace is great and the stories are fine, the only thing is, the characters are not that interesting... they both have appeared before in animation and Morgan has even appeared in live action in Ahsoka, but not every character is worth exploring... There are so many "villains" or characters with a questionable morale that could've made it to this series that I feel that it was a missed opportunity.

If you choose to explore irrelevant or blend characters you need to make it more interesting with maybe a glimpse of a pivotal moment that they affected or the cameos of well known characters and how their journeys crossed...

Other than that it's a fine show fans will enjoy it I guess but it's not memorable.

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire - 8.9/10
jacobgjohnson19 May 2024
1. Overall Plot - 6/10 This is what hurts this series the most. Half the series is about Morgan Elsbeth. And Half is about Barris Offee. I just don't really care about the Morgan Elsbeth. She is boring and forgettable. The best part of her episodes is the Clone Wars stuff. But that is very brief.

And I was excited to see what happened with Barris, but I don't really like what they did. It starts out great. But by the third episode I think they took it in the wrong direction. Her story just feels generic and overdone by now. I also wish we got to see more Darth Vader.

2. Entertainment / Engagement - 9/10 This was very entertaining to watch. They made the story with a boring character, very entertaining. And seeing what happened to Barris is cool. Seeing how the Empire created their inquisitors is super cool.

The last episode is kind boring, as I don't like what they did with Barris.

3. Emotion / Investment in Story - 10/10 This has so much emotion. Morgan Elsbeth looses her entire race, and family pretty much. And Barris Offee is getting taught the opposite of everything she's believed in. It's super cool to see what this does to these characters.

4. Theme and Depth of Story - 10/10 A big theme for this one is choices. We see how these characters make choices based off of their tragedies. It defines who their characters are. In Morgan's case it shows how she became the character that we've seen. And for Barris' case it shows what she did after embracing some darkness.

5. Characters - 5/10 Morgan Elsbeth is just a character I don't care about. So seeing more of her story is just kind of boring. But seeing appearances like General Grevious is very cool. I do like how we see how she becomes a villain, and seeks out the Dark Side. Young Thrawn is also cool to see too.

Barris Offee is a very interesting character. I think what they did with her character is dumb. They had it set up so good with her becoming an inquisitor. But how her character ended up developing and where she ends up is disappointing. It's overdone at this point. And makes no sense with what she had done in the past. I'm not a fan of the Barris story, and wish they did it differently. Especially the last of the three episodes.

6. Acting / Writing - 9/10 All of the voice acting is great. And bringing back other voice actors for characters like Grievous or Barris is what they needed to do, and did do.

The writing is very good in the Morgan Elsbeth episodes. And for the Barris Offee episodes it is also very good. I just don't like the direction they took for the end of her story.

7. Cinematography / Sets - 10/10 This show is beautiful. Star Wars animation is getting better and better. I love how all the shots fit the feel of the episodes. They feel very scary and dark. I love how evil the Empire feels in the Barris episodes. Especially with Vader's presence.

8. Score / Sound - 10/10 Star Wars music. The score helps make it feel evil, and definitely gives it a darker tone.

9. Editing / Pace - 8/10 This is an anthology. So the pacing is different every episode. They are all paced very well. I just wish the episodes were longer. Because of the shorter runtime, there is no filler. It is all great content.

10. Animation - 10/10 This is peak animation. I love it. It is animated beautifully. The fight scenes look very good, and are action packed. The animation does a phenomenal job at setting the tone of each episode.

Average Score: 8.7/10

My Overall Rating and Final Thoughts: 8.9/10 I want to love this and want to think it's peak Star Wars. But it just isn't. Don't get me wrong, it's still very good. It just had the potential to be even better. I would say I feel more disappointed after watching this. Because they has the opportunity to do something very cool with Barris, but instead did something usual, predictable, and boring.

good Star Wars

This is an animated Star Wars anthology series. This is six episodes on the people struggling within the Empirical system. The first three episodes deal with Morgan Elsbeth. The first episode does throw me off since the lead is a survivor of an attack although it is General Grievous and not the Empire. It may not exactly fit the premise of the series, but it's an origin story for Morgan. There is quite a jump from the first episode to the second episode. I like the second and third episode the most. They fit the concept a lot more and the character is more compelling. The last three episodes has something more expected with the Inquisitors. This is good Star Wars material.

Questionable.....but entertaining?

Warning: Spoilers
This 6 part series very similar to the format of 'tales of the Jedi' looks at the other side of the coin, the empire, or simply the character pawns of the empire!

The first three episodes concerning Morgan Elsbeth, was rather weak, and lacked direction of the character! Her push forward in why she did what she does does not make sense!

Her people annihilated by Grevious who had connections to Sidious and the empire, yet the empire does not want to know her yet she follows Thrawn who is loyal to the empire!

The ending of hearing Bo-Katan on the communicator makes no sense at all why?

I'm seeing that this takes place just before Ahsoka arrives there, knowing that Bo-Katan said she would be there, unless Bo sent her there?

Ahsoka said in Mandalorian season 2 that Morgan knew of Thrawns where abouts? But how can this tie with Bo-Katan makes no sense?

The next three episodes surrounding Bariss Offee, is far superior, a more rounded story of the friend of Ahsoka Tano who betrayed her.. but she was right to a certain point of view! But she did things the wrong way to get her message!

She saw the harshness of the Empire, and made her choice to choose her own path than join the empire as a form of pardoning.. this shows like Ahsoka she is strong willed and knows the path of truth, like Ahsoka she would make the perfect Jedi that can not be corrupted! She may be flawed but she saw how wrong the Jedi were, which also led to Ahsoka leaving them too. I think Ahsoka and Bariss would forgive each other and would make a great duo... but we don't know if she survived Lyn stabbing her with a Saber?

Did Lyn use her force energy to bring her back?

But we do see Lyn in the live action ObiWan series!

Let's hope Bariss lives to see another day!

A few too many inconsistencies

Warning: Spoilers
I was looking forward to this, then on reviewing the list of episodes, disappointed to see the narrower focus, when compared to Tales of the Jedi.

Morgan Elsbeth is a character who quite arguably didn't really need any more of a back story than she received in Ahsoka. The storyline here is very lacking. It shoe horns her character into events of the Separatist attack on the Night Sisters of Dathomir and that was one of the most unconvincing story arcs of Ahsoka. In the Clone Wars series, Asajj Ventress is a Night Sister - and looks like one. Morgan Elsbeth just looks human and it feels that she was reinvented as a Night Sister after Mandolorian by the script writers of Ahsoka. It feels improvised and for me it just doesn't work. The episodes leap from the time of the Clone Wars, then to Elsbeth meeting Thrawn and the connection with the TIE Defender project, to the period shortly before Ahsoka's arrival. It doesn't tell anything new and attempts to build in some kind of back story for a character who is really just a generic one, from a particular Mandalorian episode, without actually providing anything substantial.

Barriss Offee's episodes are more compelling, but felt rushed. I'm not convinced anything more expansive could have been squeezed into three 15 minute episodes. I don't have a problem with the redemption story at all. In fact it fits the character well and I am glad they went with that. In Clone Wars, Barriss came across as a misguided idealist, not a murderous, ambitious Sith apprentice and as far as we know had no connections to Palpatine. Personally I never saw her becoming an inquisitor or a Sith, no idea how/why some fans predicted that one. In the end Bariss redeemed herself through her actions and in her death helped to save another from the dark path.

Tales of the Jedi were short Episodes which worked well as stand alone, the same cannot be said here. Barriss' story needed more time, Morgan's didn't really bring anything new and for me, just leaves more questions.

6/10.

*Spoilers* Barriss Offee was done wrong
Dayton1555 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a huge Star Wars fan I was very excited to see Barriss Offer story continue in TOTE as an inquisitor and see how that story goes. Once I finished the show the only thing that crossed my mind was " wtf Dave really!?!". Her death just felt a lil plain in my opinion, I wanted to see her and Vader/Anakin have a insane duel, especially cause Vader would be extra mad with what happened with Ahsoka getting kicked out then leaving, it just would have been a more meaningful death by his hand. There are also now a lot of questions unanswered and leaving fans to wonder if she really is gone and what happens next. There was also a time skip that happened which I thought was cool seeing Old Barriss be wise but also felt rushed and again a lot unexplained.

The first 3 Eps were not that interesting it was cool seeing Thrawn but other than that just kinda a bore lore dump that didn't need to be explained. Hearing Grievous haunting laugh and seeing him fight and cut down the night sisters was awesome but it was short lived and really to me the only interesting part of the 3 eps. They also never explained or showed how she got her Beskar spear which I would have liked to known how it got in her hands.

All in all the animation was fantastic and seeing nostalgic characters was awesome. I am mainly mad cause I want to watch more and see what happens with the story's ,I feel like there was a lot left out there for Barriss story and her redemption ark and maybe a more interesting Empire Tale then the ones we got, I still believe in Dave and maybe he can redeem himself in the future with explanation in a future Tale or show which he loves to do for example *SPOILERS* the Zillows beast in Bad Batch make his return alsmot 10+ years after being introduced. I love Filoni and what he has done for Star Wars but with my finally thought "wtf Dave"😭

May the 4th be with you!

The Whining Man Children Strike Again...
xyoyytzf6 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Never really offer my thoughts here but for this series, especially the final episode - which some have rated the worst of the 6 I feel the need to.

All the negativity and not one comment I've seen here seems to convey understanding of what Filoni has done here. Look at the chapters headings - The Path of Fear - The Path of Hatred - The Path of Anger - Devotion - Realization - The Way Out -

This is a series of two stories woven together with ONE MESSAGE - We all know what happens to Morgan, her hatred destroys her. With Barris, pay close attention to the Wasteland she walks through in the episode - Realization - this is a Metaphor for the destructing and desolation - the same desolation Moran brought upon her environment due to Hatred in the final episode of her arch - that Barris' existence has become. She sees it for what it is and turns away from it. Finally, to be redeemed through selflessness and forgiveness. Firstly, of herself and then of another, Lyn.

I understand that Disney uses Diabolical Marketing Methodology - and ramps up expectations, only for people's expectations to be dashed when the projections of their own wants and needs onto it do not materialize, I'll fault Disney for that. But I implore you, rewatch all of it with open eyes and see it for what it Truly Is! This is a Masterclass in allegorical story telling. The only others to do this through animation is Studio Ghibli. It is THAT GOOD!

It is shocking to me, that so many find this series, lacking. I personally think this is an absolutely outstanding addition to the canon. And I am specifically referring to the episodes dealing with Barris Offee.

Lucas' principles, that are explicitly laid down as the core of the story of Star Wars and its allegorical message, is one of redemption. Through love, compassion, self-acceptance, selflessness, self-sacrifice, forgiveness and reconciliation. And with Barris', Filoni, one of the few that adhere to the principles the Star Wars saga is founded upon, that is continuing this saga, has stayed the course and held true.

I honestly welled up in episode 6. Barris' story is dealt with such tenderness. It is beautiful.

Do not be swayed by the disgruntled whining of those that only see and want to see Star Wars as 'spectacle'. That are so intellectually lazy that all they can do is complain that they didn't get what they want.

9/10. Filoni IS the 'Heir to the Empire'
